Fast service, good value, mild flavor. The good news is that it is run by Chinese people, but I believe they have toned down their cooking to suit an American palate. The Cantonese noodles with char sui pork suffered from noodles that were partially stiff and partially soft. The char sui pork was okay in flavor, but would have benefited from a longer marinade. The green beans and pork was cooked just right, but lacked any distinguishable flavor. It should have more of a garlicy soy sauce aroma, but it was pretty plain. If you're feeding kids, it's a good deal. read more

This place has made a complete turnaround in my view. New owners have definitely upped their game! I honestly had given up on the place, but decided to revisit it this year. We just ordered take out Christmas Eve 2025 for ten people. Cost was under 200$ Picked up and out the door with in 45 minutes. They absolutely nailed it! Wow. I was very impressed. Whom ever the cooks are these days...they better make sure they stay. We have gone here for years. We use to know everyone by name. The last ten years things have changed and things were hit or miss. This Christmas Eve things could not have been better. Everything was delicious!! I worked for a famous Chinese restaurant here in Fox Lake for ten years. Let's start by sharing that I have passed this restaurant more times than I can count and the out front look was always the reason why I wouldn't stop here along with so many negative reviews, which I would disagree based on my experience...that said, today was the day I gave it a try to see it for myself...let's start by remembering ourselves to not judge a book by it's cover ...this is a true hidden gem, so don't let the outside fool you or keep you from coming here ...food was DELICIOUS, prices are super reasonable for what you get overall!!!, place is small but mighty..service is great, cute small location with take out as well. Staff is super patient and attentive to your needs. Lavatory I did not visit so I cannot comment. My overall experience was great!! Its been a while since I had ordered, we used to LOVE it, but ordered yesterday for 3 of us and none of us liked it. The eggrolls were almost like pastry with rice in it. The portions were good size, but the taste wasnt great. Will not be back. Was looking forward to it all day and was let down. This place is so hit or miss. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it ends up in the trash. The unreliability is why I stopped getting food from here. I've tried the lunch specials mostly, chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice with pork, egg rolls, crab rangoon, and steamed dumplings. My last straw for regular food was when the chicken chunks in the lo mein were inedible. I've also gotten their smoothies with tapioca pearls. The first time the smoothie was really good, but the next visit, the tapioca was frozen in the middle. There's certainly worse Chinese restaurants around, but there's also better. read more

Best Chinese food in Northern Lake County. New owners are killing it with food quality and portions. They are prompt, fast, and polite as can be. Their Shrimp are huge in the Crazy Spicy Noodles lunch special. Their Singapore noodles are spot on. Any of the friend chicken dishes are super comfort food and amazing. Got take out last weekend. The food was delicious. Still hot by the time I got back home. I order pot stickers, I did not know they were gigantic. I think it was chicken but it was a conversation started for sure. Next was the teriyaki chicken on a stick. Generous portions of chicken. They taste sweet and great... but the dipping sauce was peanut not teriyaki. Slightly disappointed, thankfulness not allergies to nuts. The main course was beef and broccoli with steam rice delicious as usual and generous portion. Also sesame chicken, first time having it from here, was not disappointed. Really tasty even for leftovers. Finally was the chicken fried rice, wow super good definitely will return. I just hope to get the right chicken teriyaki on a stick next time. read more

I have been coming here for many years and always thought the food was good but this time it was the worst. I ordered the Fried Rice House Special which comes with 3 meats Shrimp, Chicken, and Beef.. Very dry, no meat only a few baby shrimp but no chicken and beef, no green onions, no sprouts, just a big pile of rice. It was the worst I've ever had from here. I won't be going again. My husband and I use to love going Szechwan Palace. The food was always great until tonight. We ordered BBQ Pork Egg Foo Young, Teriyaki Beef Sticks, and an appetizer plate for 2 to go. We brought it home and in the very first piece of Egg Foo Young we found a large rib bone. Never having this dish before I called them and asked if that was normal. They said no so I asked if I could bring it in to show them. So I drove back to the restaurant with the bone and the entire container of Egg Foo Young that we didn't even touched besides that one piece. The second I gave them the bone they imediatly started yelling at me that it was a rib bone and that it was impossible for it to be in my food. I had also ordered a side of ribs as a appetizer and they were in a completely different container then the Egg Foo Young so I know it wasn't from me. The 2 employees (possibly managers) continued to tell that it wasn't possible because they only use boneless meat and that I was lying to them. I told them that I can bring the 2 rib bones back that I had ordered and show them that everything was completely intact. Eventually someone that I assume was the owner told them to give me a refund. It was all in Chinese so I'm not sure exactly what was said but next thing you know he was handing me cash. They only refunded the $8 for the Egg Foo Young and not the appetizers we bought ($14 worth) and I was ok with that because that's all I wanted anyway. I have no problem paying for food that I can actually eat. I told him that everything elce was great. We were about to leave and the other employee started to yell at my husband and I again telling us that it was impossible for it to happen because they know how to prepare the food. She said they cut all the ribs by hand and if that's the case then I'm sorry to say it but it is very possible for a rib bone to get by. The sad thing is that we were not even mad about finding the bone. We really just wanted to bring it to their attention and since we didn't eat the food and bought the entire thing back it really shouldn't have been a problem. We more then likely would have ordered from them again but after being treated this way over their mistake I can say that we will never order anything from Szechwan Palace in Antioch, IL again! read more

OK, I'm new to the area so this is my first impression. Ordering was easy, however I became concerned when a young child about 2 or 3 came walking out from a side room Winne-the-Poohing it. What I mean by that is red shirt......and nothing else. He's not close to the kitchen, but then he takes a seat in the waiting area until a older brother pulls him back into the side room. I get my order and head home. I try the sezchuan chicken and..........ah....this is not what I expected. First, not spicy AT ALL! In fact it tasted very,very sugary,I couldn't eat it. The fried rice and egg roll was on point though. I should make a point to ask that they adjust (see remove all sugar and add spice) the next time I order from them. read more

We've been coming here for 5 years, the food used to be awesome. Now, our recent orders have not been edible. Everything has been soggy and overall not fresh. Women working today ( Sunday) quite possible the owner, has very poor customer skills, poor attitude & communication skills. I've been coming here for years even b4 this new owner, but today was my last. Plenty of chinese restaurant's around. I asked if i can switch a few vegetables & she said "take it or leave it, what do u want to do"? Then had a coupon for free egg roll for carry out , we had ordered $40 worth of food, intending to dine inside, she absolutely would not let us redeem a $3 eggroll coupon unless taking our order to go. My most recent takeout was extremely disappointing. The chicken in my Dragon And Phoenix, which in the past has been crispy and nicely spicy, was soggy and flavorless. The Egg Rolls once were quite good but this time they had a different filling and tasted absolutely disgusting. The previously fluffy and tasty fried rice was now undercooked and heavy. Plus, both I and my wife are sensitive to MSG and never had an issue here, this time we had our telltale symptoms and believe they may be using it now. It's a shame, we used to really like their food, but obviously there's been a change and not for the better. Add to that the premium price, and it's a no-brainer - we won't be back. read more

The food was very high in cheap ingredients (noodles, rice, etc), but lacked all the ingredients you'd normally expect. I rated 2 instead of 1 because the sauces were good. This place used to be GREAT! Then they sold to new owners. For a while, the food stayed the same. Unfortunately my most recent meal was DISAPPOINTING. The egg drop soup was very watered down and tasted like a dirty sock. Then my meal was DISAPPOINTING with less meat and more sauce. The sauce used to be thick, but just like the soup, it was watery. The theme seems to be that they are cutting costs at the expense of the food. I will go back one more time, but if they don't do something to correct these issues, I will not be returning.
