Definitely one of a kind Americanized Chinese food. They give very large quantity of... somewhat mediocre aka very "Americanized" food. But in this case, they don't have it overly sweet like syrup-y type, but rather lack of flavor other than just salt-- the flavor profile just isn't right, even for Americanized Chinese food. Mostly just salt and lacking the depth of any kind of Asian palate (no sesame oil, no oyster sauce, no msg/umami, I wonder if they even use soy sauce?) It's quite possible they limit "flavor" to plain salt only for Americans or those with allergies, which is a bonus for those that can't have any wheat/soy or just plain averse to msg. Flavor is probably my only complaint about this place. Now I want to highlight what I thought it did really well-- the ingredients were fresh and they do give plenty. The Jun Ho war mien had celery, snap pea, mung bean sprout, water chestnut, shiitake mushroom slices, white mushroom slices, large peeled/gutted shrimp, chicken or pork which were cooked just fine (not too tough). This quality of cooking is not typical with super Americanized Chinese food. Still bewildered by the lack of more authentic flavors. I think it's still a fine place to get your food if you want large quantity of very mediocre tasting food albeit good quality of ingredients. I would suggest adding your own flavored oil/sauce like lao gan ma to the foods. It works just fine! In my older parents words, these types of food are "easy to go down with rice". Their generation cared less about flavors, but as long as the food is salty, they can eat lots of rice with it. I think my dad's generation would've been fine with the quality. They mostly would care about the quantity. One other thing to add: despite they have some seemingly traditional sounding dishes, I called to ask if they could tailor the taste to Asian natives. The receptionist seemed really confused, but it made sense since we realized she was white when we went to pick up the food. It's fine. Anyhow, they are not like some other Am-Ch fast food places that *could* tailor cooking style to Asians vs. non-Asians. Kind of unfortunate but we tried.

Had been looking for Chinese after moving from Chicago. I ordered online for pickup and ended up…read morewaiting about 7-10 minutes longer than the expected pickup time. When I walked in, there were some patrons eating a simple rice and noodle dish and there it was front and center, a microwave... and the older lady cook had just put something in there and punched it for a preset 1 minute timer. So that definitely made me ... know this was about to be sad. They do have woks going, but it looks like the main things that touch them is the noodles and rice only so there is SOME hot food Here is my order: 1 Fried Dumplings 1 Peppered Steak 1 Orange Chicken 1 Beef Lo Mein 1 Beef Fried Rice 1 Sweet and Sour soup This is my review of each: 1 Fried Dumplings - 2/5 Soggy, prefried, definitely from the microwave, not firm dumpling wrapper with bad five spice aftertaste. 1 Peppered Steak and Onion - 2/5 absolute ripoff, meager portions of steak, should be called Onion with Some Steak. just taste like the generic beef and broccoli juice flavor, filled to the brim of raw onion, and poorly cooked bell peppers. 1 Orange Chicken - 1/5 Prefried, Sweet, soggy, bad pieces of meat, absolutely sus looking 1 Beef Lo Mein - 4/5 not enough sauce on the noodles, but the noodles were cooked well and were very hot so I suspect that actually touched the Wok 1 Beef Fried Rice - 3/5 (only because of the raw onion) the rice was the oily fried goodness, idk why they put unevenly cut raw onions in this. It ruined it a bit. 1 Sweet and Sour soup 0/5 - absolutely atrocious. Nothing there at all. Money value I give it a 4/5. Would not personally eat inside as it is cramped and not separate from kitchen. Will not return though overall

Got lunch for takeout from this strip mall Chinese place in Mundelein. It doesn't look like much,…read morebut it still beat expectations though. New China Chef has all the usual stuff, from beef to tofu and whatever. Big portions help make things a good value for what you get. The prices aren't bad especially on lunch specials. Came in and placed an order to go. It's a pretty cramped place, but there's enough room for a few tables for those eating inside. The atmosphere is pretty lame. About the worst thing that can be said about it. There's two humongous menus on the walls. It's about $12 for the regular size entrees. They also have lunch specials. Has vegetarian choices. I got the Kung Pao Tofu. Good spice to it. The tofu was firm, and there was a good variety of vegetables including broccoli, corn, and more. For lunch it's pretty good. It's pretty fast to get most orders. There's a variety of proteins including tofu for vegetarians.

It's very hard to find good Chinese food in outside of the city. This is a smaller restaurant. Given it is a small restaurant I think customer service should be a little better. Greeting customers is important. I ordered the combination pan fried noodles, a small wonton soup, shrimp egg rolls and a Diet Coke. They forgot to give me my Diet Coke. I never check but something inside told me and I listened. I went back in. When I got home I got everything I ordered. Flavor wise everything was good. I have watched a lot of master chef mind you. I know about flavorrrr. In terms of the wonton soup I wish the wonton wrap was thinner. The soup and wontons themselves had good chicken broth flavor and I think inside the wontons was pork, very yummy. Shrimp egg rolls were good but I wish I was given sweet and sour sauce and soy sauce like when you go to any other Chinese place. I understand prices are crazy for inventory but giving soy sauce and sweet and sour should be formality and the brand new customer shouldn't be surprised when they get home. Charge an additional dollar per order to give that or something if cost is the problem. RED FLAG! Combination pan fried noodles was a good flavor also. The noodles resemble the crunchy ones in the bag just thinner and they give you more noodles. Yummy, maybe I'll try lo mein next time. I expect soy sauce and sweet & sour to be included plssss. THANK YOU FOR THE YUMMY SUBURB CHINESE FOOD!
