I've been to Chinn's twice in the last two weeks. The first time, I ordered in person and was in and out in about 15 minutes. I asked for shrimp with garlic sauce but received chicken with garlic sauce instead -- and honestly, it was still amazing. The fried rice wasn't my favorite, and the egg roll was just okay, but overall it was a great experience. This past Thursday, February 19, I decided to order online while on break. I placed my order at 6:05 PM and didn't receive it until 6:55 PM. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite worth the hour wait. I ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer -- and whatever sauce they use should honestly be bottled and sold because it's that good. For my entrée, I got the Happy Meal (fried shrimp, chicken, and beef with white rice). It came with two free egg rolls since I spent over $20, which was a nice bonus. That said, this particular dish lacked a bit of flavor, and the sweet-and-sour sauce wasn't great. I was definitely disappointed in the wait time during dinner hours. I'll most likely be back, but probably not at peak dinner time -- and I'll be trying something different next time. As for ambience and waiting, make sure your phone is charged because for my wait, the TV was just on standby mode. read more

I cannot believe I didn't try this place sooner, given how close it is to where I live. About a year or so ago, I decided to order this when I had a craving for egg rolls. I ordered off the lunch menu; both the chicken dish and shrimp were delicious! They serve Fresh and warm food at good prices, plus they have promotions like free egg rolls with min purchase. They also offer a ton of seafood. As I come here more, I am getting to know the family behind the scenes of this place and it feels like home. They only have few tables inside, so best for quick bite or take out. They have very quick service for take out. read more

When in a pinch for some quick and easy Chinese takeout, Chinn's is a great spot for some yummy food. They're close enough that we usually just get carryout and drive over to pick it up. Our favorites are the Chinese Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun, and the Honey Walnut Shrimp, all of which are consistently flavorful and nicely cooked. The eggplant is tender with a rich, savory sauce, and the chow fun has nicely cooked soft rice noodles with plenty of velvety beef in each bite. The honey walnut shrimp is a nice balance of sweet and crispy. Their Crab Rangoon is also good, crispy on the outside and creamy inside, BUT the dipping sauce packs is a bit too spicy for me personally. Portion sizes are fairly generous, so we usually end up with leftovers, which reheat well for lunch the next day. Orders are typically ready on time, and everything is packaged neatly, making carryout easy and convenient. Overall, Chinn's is a great easy takeout choice. read more

Even 1 star is too generous for this restaurant. Their employees & managers are extremely RUDE! We use to order from Chinn's religiously (almost once a week). However, new management took over and the food has declined tremendously. go down hill. Especially when management refuses to answer a simple question and continuously hangs up the phone on you. At the end of the day they dont even care how they treat their customers. They are EXTREMELY disrespectful, rude, inconsiderate and ignorant. Bottom line they do not care about the customer or care to have decent customer service skills! We placed an order that had an expected delivery time of 6:10 pm after multiple phone calls and no one giving a straight answer if our food was physically in the building all we were told between 6:20 pm to 7:20 pm was that it was out for delivery which it was never out for delivery. Asked them to remake the food and I would pick it up, they responded by laughing and declining to remake food that was "allegedly" sitting there for over an hour. I've been coming here for over 15 years an somehow didn't review it. It's takeout so can't really review the dining part. I've never used delivery, but when I order by phone it's ready in 10-15 minutes. I think that's crazy fast. I've had lunch special most of the time. I switch it up. All of it is good. About once a month we eat Chinn's as a family dinner. My son loves pot stickers but he also eats them cold out of an ABC convenience store so not sure he is a good judge. My wife loves them as well. Price is still low given the inflation and pandemic. read more

This place has to be the absolute worst Chinese restaurant I've ever had. The food took almost 2 hours for two people too. The bbq pork went straight to the garbage it was similar to bland jerky except more dry with a generic American bbq sauce. The crab Rangoon had no crab.... literally none... could not find it. The he orange chicken tasted like repurposed chicken made yesterday for something else... Pan fried noodles were good but that's just plain pan fried noodles hard to mess that up. Fried Rice tasted like actual fish... haha not sure how they pulled that one off. Egg rolls -you can get the same from frozen ones at a grocery store. A bit different from the other local Cantonese style chinese restaurants (other than, everything is cooked Cantonese style, regardless of what cuisine is listed on the menu). The food is really more homestyle than it is flavorful, junky fast-food style. Prices are slightly higher than other places but they do attempt to use more fresh vegetables and fewer canned ones (except in the case where it's impractical to use fresh items). The style is probably the closest to old Chinatown flavor you'll find out here (which I'm not saying is necessarily the best, but is harder to find now with more Pan-Asian and Northern Style restaurants replacing Cantonese style ones as they close). I don't particularly recommend any special items here and they're pretty solid overall regardless of meat type or listed cuisine. But, definitely try to stick to more traditional Cantonese style items for the best flavor. read more

Changed. As a long time patron I have been disappointed the last 3 times I've carried out from here. Appears they have new owners and they have changed the recipes for some of the entrees. The "crispy beef" has been prepared 3 different ways, the "original recipe", then without the white noodles and an overabundance of red peppers. Most recently the dish was smothered in some sort of brown sauce. Not crispy at all. It had no resemblance to any crispy beef that I've ever had. The fried rice does remain tasty. And the prices have increased dramatically. Sadly it's time to move on and find another take out restaurant for Chinese. read more

I work down the street from Chinn's for about 20 years and tried to have lunch there every opportunity. It was such a bargain and the food was so delicious. I don't think the fish could've been fresher if you would've had the meal on the coast or in Hawaii. the prices have gone up a bit so lunch is not quite the bargain used to be, but then again, everybody's prices are gone up I especially like the grouper, and on the rare occasion what I feel like splurging split the crab with my granddaughter. read more

Excellent dishes full of ingredients that's family owned. The flavors are outstanding with nice amount of meat and seafood shrimp. Can't miss the Hot and Sour soup on a cold days. Takeouts gets busy during peak hours. This place better than nearby so give 'em a try when near! read more

This place is really good. The food is really tasty as cheap as quick as locally owned and very personable. I got the beef and broccoli and it was as good as any other place around. Was voices give me just enough rice is to have the mill they give you more than enough rice which for me I like because I like the rice. The pricing here is really good too I got the lunch special which is only a few dollars cheaper than the normal price which is already at the more the reasonable. Drove by for years but never tried this spot but was not pleased with Yen Yen for quite some time. Checked Yelp & found very good reviews so decided to try out. As other reviewers had stated the portions were huge & I was able to get 3 meals out of it. Had house special fried rice, dbl. sautéed pork, Mongolian beef & teriyaki chicken. Very little pork but way too many vegetables but that was my only complaint. Food was delicious & will make this my preference for Chinese food in the future! Try it...you will like it! read more

Not the best menu but got your staple chinese takeout items. ordered the shrimp lo mein, the shrimp was actually quite big and nice, lo mein not bad, i'd say that is more like fried noodle though...Anyway the egg roll though, eeeeeeeeek. Thick skin, hate the spices inside and all cabbage as another reviewer said. Zero nutritional value. I will be back to try the chow fun and pineapple fried rice. The food here is phe-nom. I work across the street and I hazmat neighbors how was it? Everyone said how good it was and how is everybody's favorite in the area. So I thought I'd stop by for lunch and got the chicken broccoli but special number 10 and it was as good as advertised. I've been a loyal customer of Chinn's for the last two years. Mr Chinn was always very funny, jovial, and cooked good Chinese food. We order in at work from Chinn's once a month, usually ordering for 3-4 people. I even placed a large order for a staff meeting prior to the start of summer. As most places are accommodating to special requests, I typically make the same order, with the same simple modifications--nothing crazy. (ie: steam veggies, sauce on side, no broccoli, etc) I called today to place an order, and wanted to try the pan fried noodles. I asked which veggies come with the pan friend noodles, and was told by Mr. Chinn that he was too busy to take my order, and promptly hung up on me. In shock and disbelief, I called back to confirm what had just happened. I asked if he did not want me as a customer anymore, and prefer that I order Chinese food elsewhere. He told me yes, go elsewhere, and once again, hung up on me. So, if it applies to me, perhaps it applies to you too... Mr Chinn is too busy to take orders - take your business elsewhere - he said so himself! read more

The takeout food here is incredible. But more than that, they are a true, honest business. After I left, they soon called me to ask if they had included the egg rolls in the takeout bag. They had indeed forgotten that part of the order and offered to deliver it. I was still in my car and offered to just come and pick it up. They not only corrected the order, they threw in some free almond cookies as well. I've been ordering lunch or dinner here first past 67 years ever since I moved to Buffalo Grove. Six or seven years. And I have to tell you you're not going to get a better lunch special they taste as great as this place. In the past with your standard Chinese strip mall restaurant that was basically just pick up or carry out only. It had a little table in the middle but at the aesthetics wasn't the greatest. It has new leader ship who have came in and remodeled the place and it looks amazingly great. Super clean. They've also now have smoothies with your super good. I highly recommend this place I can't believe I have a written review prior to the day but they're on a Mac is about to order lunch now. I like the beef and broccoli with light sauce. read more

this is the first post i have done. it seems that chins has a new owner! all has changed. it took forever to place a sample order ( a spanish ) person took the order, "witch" is strange! to start of the take-out meal. the egg rolls seems store bought and cold. next was we opened up the chop-suey, super hot, temperature wise, but was lacking the quantity as beef and vegs! next was the fried rice , hot again, but flavorless. and of course the "white rice" a tad cold, but great firmness. last but not lease, the fortune cookie, those were spot on! note: we live 5 minutes away, delivery was fast, the dude was very polite. * we have been going to chins "take out" for years. i dislike when new owner take- over, and change the food! the pricing seemed inline, $3.00 delivery "great price" it's a shame that we judge the food one the last-order that we gotten! *we will not go back, there are too many chinese take-out within three miles from our home.... * 2 star on food, 1 star on ordering, and 4 star on delivery "dude". bye-bye forever read more

Chinn's is my favorite!!! If I could eat there everyday I would. I like to try a little bit everything and I have never had a dish I did not like. Customer service has always been amazing. I have passed this place a billion times and never tried it because it was on the wrong side of the street and traffic near the intersection of Arlington Hts. Rd. & McHenry Rd. is abysmal. So when a co-worker said he was ordering and did I want anything, I said sure, even though I brought my lunch that day. I wish I had eaten my lunch. This was the worst carryout ever. Lunch specials are reasonable, my hunan chicken was under $5 and came with egg roll, fried rice & fortune cookie. The rice reminded me of that delectable San Francisco treat, with the addition of frozen peas and carrots. The few shreds of chicken were tender white meat; my only regret is that there were not more of them. Overall, the entree was bland. Who says chinese is loaded with sodium? Not here! After searching, I found two lonely red chilis and resorted to chewing on them for the flavor I sought. The eggroll was not bad, it was still crispy though it was entirely cabbage. The fortune cookie was actually good...it had a faint orange flavor and was very light and crispy, thinner than the usual cookies I get at other restaurants. I don't think I'll get lunch here again...I tried to eat the leftovers for dinner and I had to toss them...just nasty. ***UPDATE***5/22/08 A bit late writing this, it happened a couple weeks ago when a co-worker ate my lunch for the 2nd time and I made him buy me lunch....so where was everyone ordering from???
