Pre-Father's Day dinner at this restaurant. Saw it when they just opened but never came around to eating here until today. So glad that we did!! Conveniently close to home. Plenty of parking space. Restaurant is spacious and clean. We had a very early dinner so we were able to choose our table. Not many customers but by the time we finished eating, more people came in. Pleasantly surprised to be served Ceviché, salsa, and chips right away since we did not order it. Even better, it was complimentary. Nice touch!! Had the Cantaritos Special. Great presentation!! It's a fruit drink with Tajín and Tamarind. A mini bottle of Tequila is laced with what tasted like Chamoy. It was delicious!! My new favorite drink!! Our food was delivered quickly. We ordered the Shrimp Empanadas with Mozzarella Cheese. Intrigued as I thought it was a weird combination. What an excellent pairing!! Generous portions of Shrimp and gooey Mozzarella Cheese dipped in a sauce that tasted like Thousand Island Dressing. So good!! My husband ordered the Huachinango Diabla. Crispy Red Snapper on the outside and moist, flaky on the inside. Diabla sauce complimented the fish very well. Mild and a touch of sweetness. I had the Mendigo Special. Wow!! So much depth of flavor in the savory soup that had generous portions of seafood; octopus, shrimp, and crab (imitation). Topping of cilantro, onions, and avocado all enhanced the already flavorful soup. The dish comes with this buttery, soft, warm bread to soak up the delicious soup. Really modern and clean inside - my kids were amazed by the bathroom lol. Good soundtrack of modern Spanish songs, and very friendly staff. The menu is almost exclusively seafood, so keep in mind, but they do have chicken tenders and quesadillas on the kids menu, plus a few chicken and skirt steak items. Really good Nayarit style seafood, with lots of selection. You get a little thing of ceviche for the table while you wait, and the green salsa that comes with is pretty spicy. Hubby got a small ceviche plate and I got a shrimp and octopus cocktail, while the kids went for the chicken tenders. All the seafood tasted fresh and delicious, and the sauce for the cocktail was yummy. It's a bit pricey, but it's seafood and honestly, everything is pricey these days. Fresh seafood, large portions, good prices - Oceans Seafood will not disappoint. We love seafood so my husband and I headed here upon recommendation of friends. We were greeted with complementary ceviche, which is the best ceviche I've ever had (including ceviche from Riveria Maya region of Mexico). We loved it so much we ordered some more. Beware of the green sauce with it - my husband has a super high tolerance for hot/spice and it was a bit too hit for him. My husband judges Mexican restaurants by their guacamole, so we had an order of that as well and it was a large serving - more than enough for two. Just the right balance of seasonings and super fresh. The drink and food menus were extensive. Order a drink, an app or two and take your time to look through the menu and don't be afraid to ask staff questions or their recommendations. I had a pineapple half stuffed with crab, shrimp, steak and cheese. It was amazing. It was rich and a lot of food so next time I'd recommend sharing it with someone. My husband got shrimp and carne asada - shrimp was great, meat was a tad dry. Seafood is their specialty so my husband said next time we come back he's going to get what I had (he actually finished mine!). We gawked at other dishes as they were delivered to the other tables around us - everything looked amazing and we can't wait to come back and try other items. A table near us ordered a bunch of oysters and told us they on the level of those they've eaten on the east coast. This is a treasure and we cannot wait to make the trip down from Wisconsin again. best Mexican Seafood place I've been to in IL. it's so yummy and authentic. We ordered the Kora shrimp dinner and the Molcajete.

I ordered an aguachile mix. It was good but a little over-seasoned and the portion of aguachile shrimps was not as much but rather I got cooked shrimps which in that case I would've ordered a ceviche. The service was good and the music was not as loud as other places. I ordered a Michelada and it was a little light. Overall had a good experience but I will try something else next time. Excellent quality seafood-- spicy, flavorful and very reasonably-priced. The Huachinango (fried whole red snapper) and Camarones Zarandeados (grilled shrimp in special sauce) were amazing! Just go easy on the heat level if you can't handle super spicy, because they're not playing around...especially with the Cora sauce :) The complimentary ceviche and tostadas were a nice touch and really tasty. The only thing I wasn't that into was the mango margarita, as it was too sweet and artificial-tasting. A wonderful addition to the area! Can't wait to return. read more

I love seafood and believe Mexico does seafood uniquely and well. First off, this place is Extremely Clean ! I haven't been in a restaurant that clean in who knows how long. They start you with fish ceviche with shredded carrots, delectable Chips, a green salsita that is citrusy and spicy. The Shrimp Empanadas were unique and will have your wondering how the infused the chili flavor into the shell so well. My mom ordered the seafood stew with shrimp, fish, and octopus, yum. My Pops had some delicious huge plate of Fish ceviche loaded with the cucumber our bodies so desire. I had the Mojo de Ajo and it was a very nice and bold Garlic flavor with the butter we all love. $12 was a bit steep for a Michelada and live in California. I asked if it was a mega size one and no, just a regular size, I passed. Give this place a shot though if you'd like a new experience, good fresh seafood, and support the local businesses. read more

Second visit to Ocean after my daughter and I had snacks and cocktails (nice selection with a good presentation) right after they opened. Both visits were solid. Love the ceviche they bring out when you arrive, also order another small because it is so tasty, and the green salsa has a nice kick and flavor to the bite. Had the shrimp empanadas on both trip and just as good the second time. This visit added the oysters topped with shrimp and pico and with a small dash of salt and a little green sauce all was good. Three of us ordered the Red Snapper covered in garlic and to my surprise also covered in picked onion that added another great level of taste. The rice was also a great side and flavor. One of us also ordered a steak and fish mix in a cheese sauce that he said was fantastic (that will be next on my agenda). I ordered Shrimp dinner and got 7 little shrimp like you would get in the frozen section of your food market, some mashed potatoes and a small salad all on one plate. The Molcajete I had was excellent! All of the seafood within tasted fresh and perfectly cooked/seasoned. The restaurant itself was very clean and the spicier-salsa that came with the meal didn't disappoint with its strong kick! The bartender who served me was friendly and very tenacious about my needs, he had recommendations and saved me $ by reminding me during my selection that the Molcajete was huge and that ordering any more for a single patron was overkill (he was right).
