We tried this place for the first time with an online order. I got to the restaurant and was told just 15 minutes so I sat and waited while the nice couple that own the place finished cooking up our meal. Sesame Tofu- despite taking this home as a carry out meal, the tofu still had some crispiness! I can only imagine how much better it may be when eaten immediately. General Tso Tofu - similar sauce but spicier. So two dishes now on the "sweet" side. Garlic Broccoli - Very fresh and flavorful. Oddly enough also a little on the sweet side. Vegetable Fried Rice- please serve this to me by the bucketful! Finally a worthy fried rice, and more! Of note: the owner was very kind when I asked if they could do a Kung Pao Tofu, even though it is not on the menu. She said she could and to just call or let her know! Szechuan Village is our go to for Chinese takeout food in the area. The prices are reasonable, the menu is large, and they're respectful of dietary restrictions (namely no meat in otherwise vegetarian dishes). There is a spacious parking lot right by the restaurant so it's always easy to do pickup, and this cute little family establishment always welcomes our family and is very kind to our child offering snacks with the takeout order. I've never seen anyone sit and eat there, though you could and there are a handful of tables. We've only had an issue once on a very busy night w regards to any kind of wait, but usually service is quick, the food is good, and the prices can't be beaten. read more

It's your avg Chinese type sit down restaurant that has a classic menu with all of the known Americanized Chinese dishes including: Walnut shrimp, General Tso's Chicken and Beef, Chow Mein, Dumplings, Mongolian beef... You get the idea. The best thing is that the usual lady that takes orders is very nice and doesn't mind being asked questions. Take that , great prices and fast service into the equation and you got yourself a satisfied pocket and tummy. They have dinner/lunch specials and also deliver (minimum $15). My must haves: BBQ pork spare ribs, shrimp dumplings, eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. Barbecued Spare Ribs: Also known as char siu. Can I say, Wow! It's really authentic Chinese bbq pork ribs. I was expecting some old sitting greasy knock off bbq, but this is the real deal. They actually use real pork ribs and real seasoning. Best thing is the flavor, texture (has bite), it's not greasy and it's fresh. I highly recommend this appetizer. Sesame Chicken: Sauteed with sweet and spicy sauce (more sweet than spicy), very generous with the tender chicken and served with several pieces of steamed broccoli. Yummy for those that like sweeter savory dishes. Mongolian beef: Was also very good, but has less meat and more green scallion. Served with crispy fried white noodles that you mix in. Pork dumplings: Avg for me. Big in size but a little bit salty. Not nearly as fresh as you'd get them at a dim sum restaurant. Their shrimp dumplings on the other hand are perfect in every way for me. Thin skin, steamed and pan fried to perfection, juicy with nice flavor. I ordered a side of house sweet and sour to dip then in. Delicious!!! Eggplant with spicy garlic sauce: I love this dish to death. They cook it to perfection. It has a nice roasted garlic taste and the eggplant has no bitterness to it at all. For flavor, they cook it with bits of pork so of your vegetarian, make sure you tell them. Also it's not as greasy as I was expecting it to be. House special fried rice: Came with an assortment of meats. Avg rice, big portion. From now on, I will stick to their free white rice that comes with the entrees. It's never dry, has nice texture and absorbs entree juices really well. Walnut Chicken: It's not like walnut shrimp where there's a thick mayo sauce and the walnuts are candied. Sauteed pieces chicken with crispy veggies- bell pepper, water chestnuts, celery. I've ordered from here a few times but had t in a while. Was craving an egg roll not a spring roll. Since they offer that the decision was made. Their egg roll is so satisfying crunchy, filling, but not greasy. I could make a meal of these delightful shrimp and pork egg rolls. We got the egg drop wonton combo. The soup was flavorful and the wonton was tasty. I got the seafood fried rice with squid, lobster, scallops, shrimp, and crab stick. Exactly the comfort food I was craving with a bit of soy sauce and pure heaven. We got the fried veggie dumplings which were yummy and not greasy. My wife got the Moo Shu chicken which she enjoyed. My Daughters got the boneless spareribs and beef Szechuan both of which were devoured. We decided to try the bubble tea. We got green tea and taro. They were surprisingly tasty. I am a long time customer of this place and have been coming here off and on since I was in high school. That being said I have always felt like I've gotten quality food overall with only a few issues along the way, nothing major. The employee that I always see, possibly the owner, is very friendly and I always feel welcome when I come sit down in this establishment. This is why I'm truly upset that I have to even give this place three starts for not standing by their food or accommodating us. My husband ordered food and immediately felt off after consuming a few bites. He did not even eat it all, maybe 2-3 pieces of chicken. We were in the establishment and let her know that the food was not agreeing with him and asked about the cooking practices. She assured us that she cooked it right and told us that we would still have to pay for it. No apology, no "are you okay?", nothing. As we were leaving she offered to make it for him again. Today was the first time trying their food. I ordered two very crispy egg rolls and sizzling rice with shrimp soup. Everything ordered was ready as and when promised and nothing was missing. The egg rolls were ordered very crispy and they were. They were larger than I've had from other restaurants and they tasted very good, especially with the homemade duck sauce. The soup was excellent! It's my favorite Asian soup, but it's difficult to find. I found out from a google search that they prepared it. I called to confirm and was so happy to hear that they did. Actually, when I first called they were closed due to COVID-19. I called again when they had just reopened for takeout only. They said they did not yet have all of the ingredients needed to prepare the soup, but they would soon and they could call me when they had all the ingredients . I said that would be great. They called me when they had all of the ingredients. I thought it was very nice to offer to call me when they had the ingredients and then to actually get their call. I ordered the scallops with spicy garlic sauce, and my wife and I had a very difficult time finding the scallops! frustrated, we counted them and found 8 puny little broken pieces of scallops amongst the mountains of vegetables. so we complained saying that the scallops were lacking, and she started arguing with me about how expensive scallops are! I paid $14 dollars for this dish! One would think that a restaurant would make things right with a customer, but no! they would have none of it and was very rude with me! If you are looking for "hung over" type greasy Chinese food this is the place for you. Egg rolls have shrimp in them so if you just like pork in your egg rolls don't order them here. Fried pork dumplings were good and the pork fried rice was ok. I had the chicken with asparagus special dish. It was real greasy and just ok. My wife had the hot shredded beef. We just ate at Szechuan Village on Mountain Ave. in Springfield this evening. It is by far the best Chinese Food in New Jersey. We frequent this restaurant often and it is consistently delicious. We have tried numerous Chinese restaurants from South Jersey up to Hackensack and none of them compare to Szechuan Village. The food is authentic, their egg rolls are exceptional, they make the best "Sweet and Sour Chicken", and you will not find better "Shredded Pork with Hoisin Sauce" anywhere. It is phenomenal. The owner/waitress is very accommodating and the service is prompt. In addition, this restaurant is very affordable for good sized portions. Our group of four adults ate for $35. I moved to the Union area after growing up in Essex County, and it took me a little while to find a good Chinese place. Thanks to some "townie" friends of mine from Springfield, I found this place! The food had been outstanding 80% of the time, and the other two percent it has been "above average." The staff there is incredibly friendly - they must remember me by my phone number every time I call because they always seem to know me! Food is great and the times I've been in the actual restaurant it has always been impeccably clean. Delivery is very fast - usually get my food within 20 minutes (but I generally order around 8 pm so that may help the time frame a bit) If you are looking for a great dish, I recommend the General Tso's chicken and the Veggie Lo Mein. If you want an AMAZING dish, you MUST try the garlic chicken and asparagus dish! I took a chance off the menu and it was excellent! Because of their cleanliness and their great food, it is the ONLY place I will order Chinese from. Not sure how "deep" into Union they deliver (I am only one mile outside Springfield) but if they deliver to you, this is the place to order from! read more

My friends and I order from here at least twice a month for years. Today is the last day. They were awful and disgusting. I ordered a veggie low mein and they delivered a shrimp low mein which I'm highly allergic to. My friend took a bite and noticed the shrimp. I called very politely to ask for a veggie low mein and they were rude and asked for the shrimp low mein back. I thought they were joking and called them back and they said again for me to return the shrimp low mein. It was already in the garbage. Delivery man came, brought me the veggie and took the shrimp back. They didn't credit me back the difference as well. We will never order from them again. Jersey girl leaves for California and pretty much stops dining at Chinese restaurants. Can't even find nominally Szechuan restaurants anywhere. My hopes were pretty high; my memories very good. Alas, it seems that you can't go home again. The ambiance is more or less typical for a non takeout-horrid-fluorescent-lit-cheap-take-out Chinese place; thick carpet, fish tank, a bit shabby. My hopes were dashed with the hot and soup soup. Just not good. Szechuan beef tasty but I suspect this is their best offering. Disappointing overall. Tofu in brown sauce not very good. Sad face. If this were 2 miles away I might return if I got a yen. But it's 10 miles away so I won't be darkening this door again. I really wanted to like it. This is my first and my last order. I figured I would give them a try because I live so close to them about five minutes away. I noticed on the website when I ordered online that it would be almost an hour before delivery but I figured they were busy on a Saturday night. They were late and over an hour and when I called the restaurant there was no apology just an excuse that they were busy. Unacceptable. When the food arrived the driver was pleasant enough but in my instructions I said front door ringing bell, and yet he called me from my street to tell me he was outside. Ridiculous. I asked for extra spicy chicken and extra sauce, but the chicken was dry and flavorless, and the food wasn't even hot!!! I have never had that happen with any Asian food. My order is the only one waiting to get picked up, nobody seated, the place is dirty and spiderwebs in the entrance. Not a great to visit. Now to the food. Let me start off by saying that I have been searching for years for a replacement of Cuisine of Szechuan on Irving Pl in NYC, they closed 15 years ago. So the search continues...this restaurant while friendly and inexpensive falls short, cold noodles are overly sweet, dry sautéed stringbeans fairly oily and the crispy Szechuan beef dish should be named onion, carrot, pepper vegetarian dish because I struggled to find much beef in the dish. Just visited this restaurant with about 14 learning disabled young adults that I work with on Saturday's. Often times our group is treated like an inconvenience to food places. However we were treated so well by the only waitress who was there. She handled all of our tables, got every order correct and even let us do separate checks; all while servicing other customers. She was wonderful and you just don't get service like this these days! The food was also delicious and affordable. went to dinner here with 2 friends - we ordered the sizzling rice soup, szechuan beef, and the kung pao chicken. the sizzling rice soup was absolutely delicious - only complaint is that i think it had too many water chestnuts. i thought the kung pao chicken was more flavorful than the szechuan beef, but overall had a good dining experience. portions are kind of small, but that prevents you from overstuffing yourself anyways. i'll be back for the sizzling rice soup! read more
