Such a great, local breakfast joint! It warms my heart to see the older community enjoying coffee and pancakes, sitting at "their" table. This little spot must be the local favorite, because it's certainly packed!! My hubby and I have just eaten, my biscuits and gravy were not very tasty. The gravy tasted like a powdered mix made with water, and the biscuits were just ok. Hubby had ham, eggs, potatoes, and toast which were all good, but his grits were undercooked and still gritty. Other tables were ordering omelettes which looks amazing, and piles of pancakes and bacon that made my mouth water. I think we just ordered the wrong things!! The service was very friendly. Up until this point, I would have rated them 5*. They do not earn this as a high end restaurant, but as a great local, home cooked place at great value. Today, I had to drop my rating due to food and customer safety. Normally, this would motivate me to one star, but with explanation, I'm not going to be as harsh. The big issue is twofold and related to COVID19. None of the staff wear masks and their explanation is that they don't have to. (I believe this is at a time when there is a county wide mandate still in effect.) The person said the board of health came in, saw what they were doing, and let it go. The second part of this rating is that there is no social distancing between tables. You could be back to back with the table behind you. I had heart surgery about a week ago and these two items scared me, especially when they stood by the policy. I will not go back until the pandemic eases. Now, about the food. I've eaten breakfast many times and as I said, there is great value on the menu. Their omelettes are HUGE. Pancakes, biscuits, grits, coffee and side orders of meats are all excellent. I was in town for a friend's wedding and came here for a traditional Southern meal. Having been raised in the South, I know what a good breakfast looks like. Sylvan Park was that and more. My server was Mickey, and she was a delightful lady. She made sure I had the time to look at the menu and decide on what I wanted. My hotel discontinued its continental breakfast for pandemic reasons so I was looking forward to a hearty meal. Their City Ham & Eggs was excellent, reminded me of how my dad would cook breakfast ham and eggs for me on weekend mornings. The side of grits and a biscuit (plus another on Mickey's request) made the memories more vivid. I'm happy I chose to eat here before going out to walk at the nearby national battlefield. I am saddened to only give two stars as the food and service was impeccable. By our waitress. Unfortunately the attitude displayed by another waitress always absolutely horrifying. We enjoyed a lovely meal and as I said l, our waitress was a sweetheart. She asked another waitress to bring us a drink to go as she was busy checking another customer out. We were given the wrong drink and she talked back to us when we asked for the correct drink. She yelled across the restaurant to another employee to see if she was wrong or if we were. She made audible comments and was so rude to us that other people at other tables were apologizing to us for how she was treating us. My kids were almost in tears asking why she was being so mean. We were in town to visit and have always had great service here. This woman (with a 1970's winged hairstyle) was by far the rudest at this establishment and pretty much any other restaurant I have even been too. I guess if her plan was to win that award she excelled. We did nothing to ask for this treatment. I have no clue why she was so mad at us but goodness she needs some customer service training. I understand this isn't fine dining and maybe she is just a bitter old women, but by golly either find a new job or try to be a nicer human. read more

First off I'm from out of town and this place seems like a place many locals come. There's plenty of friendly conversation and its busy. I recommend the banana pudding. The baked squash was good too and lastly the crabcakes is ok. The pudding was the best part of the meal. I had the country fried steak, turnip greens, mac n cheese and cornbread. The steak was cold on arrival. They happily corrected it. The mac n cheese not so tasty, the turnip greens a lil salty and a few too many lil pieces of fat from the pork used to season was not too appealing. The cornbread was not warm enough to melt the butter, and in general a basic recipe. This may be a local thing but I didn't understand the plastic plate with the sections either.
