Dagwood burger

Always a reasonably priced venture into the past with yummy burgers, shakes, chili & more. All wood booths. Friendly servers. Nothing fancy. Just a place where you see that so many have sat and had a great meal.

I'd heard about this place from a lot of people but had never been so I made a decision that I had to try it out. It's a real throwback in terms of the style of the place and the food. It was pretty good! I loved the retro look of the place, although since it's been around for 75 years, it's authentic. The service was quick and the food was good diner-type fare. I liked the hamburger because it was normal sized, not one of the megaburgers you get at some places. The milkshake was very good. My curly fries were good but I think the sides might be a little pricey. Dinner for two which was just burgers, fries and shakes was about $40, so not outrageous. I'd definitely go back.

A Bethel institution since 1948 serving traditional diner fare; especially known for the steak-burgers, homemade root beer and ice cream shakes! Dine-in, Patio seating, Drive-in service (just flash your headlights when you park) or call for takeout. Fast, friendly service, you can't go wrong with their menu - something for everyone. Overall, 3.75 rating for my visit - super casual ambience, smiling server, quick table service and good eats. And yes, you can order a burger for under $10, but add fries/sides or shakes and the price goes up to ~$10-15pp. Fun place to try with friends or family. Today we ordered the Dagwood Burger, combo Onion Rings and Fries, Root beer, Hot Dog and Chocolate shake. Nothing fancy, just good diner foods! If you're a foodie (or traveling) near Bethel, and want a "local" experience, check out Sycamore Diner. Enjoy!

Five stars all day. We stepped back in time to the 1950s for an old fashioned car hop experience. (We actually ate inside). Three Dagwood platters, two shakes and a home-made root beer completed the experience. The steakburger with the listed condiments was juicy and tasty, wrapped in paper. The shake was made with plenty of ice cream and the root beer was better than anything I've had from a bottle or can in years. Staff was young and friendly, and efficient. After eating we took a walk around the inside to look at all the memorabilia. A jukebox, phone book and lots of classic car related material. Seventy-five years is a long time ti be in business with essentially the same menu. Clearly they are doing something right. For those that enjoy the style and tastes of what is yesteryear, enjoy.

The wife and I decided to drive up from Long Island to check out the place. The setting was directly back to when I was a young boy. The waitstaff was excellent( may have been the owner!). We had the Bacon Cheese burgers , a sycamore Dog, plain Dog, curly and regular fries and a side of pickles. All was fresh and snappy. I forgot that mustard on a burger is a Conn thing. lol. The Root beers were the best I've ever had! Giving the food 8/10. Ambiance 10/10. We were told to come back when they do the car shows starting again in May!! Just might. All in All. It was worth the trip!!

Want to take a step back in time to the roaring 20's and go to a speakeasy and talk about prohibition? Well, then, you'll be disappointed. But!! If you want to hit up a 50's style diner, with car hop service and some really good food, this is it!! I first came here years ago and as I was driving through and saw it, I had to stop by again. I had the Dagwood burger and the hot dog and some sweet potato fries. The food came out super fast and I liked that you weren't rushed in and out. They have fun things during the week like car shows, which is great. But, back to the food... It's like a diner but without that cold, cheesy feel of a diner. It's really like stepping back to the 50's with a jukebox and some decorations that you know are originals. They even have a soda fountain and have root beer floats. Try it!

Great burger's and homemade root beer with perfectly crispy onion rings! The patties are a bit thin so I'd go with a double (or even a triple) but the prices aren't bad at all and the service is great! They have some of the best onion rings I've ever had and you can get their excellent homemade root beer in a frosty mug!

A very funky restaurant, dating from 1948. I had a good salad, and enjoyed exploring the restaurant. Interesting.

He wholeheartedly recommended Bora Restaurant. I followed his advice and was not disappointed! Do not judge the book by its cover. It looks plain and unassuming on the outside and took me a few seconds to spot it. (No pic, as I was distracted by my new car!) The inside was nicely appointed. Perhaps too many fake flowers, but maybe not. They seemed to work and add color. I went at 4 pm on a Saturday, so between lunch and dinner. There were people, but no crowds or noise. All I wanted was a good burger. And I got it! I ordered the House Burger: (6 oz?) Marbled Wagyu Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Bacon, Red Onion, Toasted Brioche, and Special Burger Sauce on the side. (Truthfully, I included all that for your benefit. I only wanted the burger, bacon, and bun with ketchup on the side.) It was delicious! I did manage to snap a pic before I descended upon it like a ravenous Serengeti carnivore... with a modicum of decorum so as not to scare the other guests. The service was fast and friendly and the prices reasonable. This is the sort of place I would like to return to in order to try some of their finer dishes!

I wish I ordered something different since I wasn't able to enjoy the scallops, but overall a good experience. I'm for sure coming back here to try something different on the menu!

The crew and I heard about a new barbecue spot all the way out in Danbury, CT so we packed up the…read morewhip and shot out there! Here's how it went at Farmboys Smokin' BBQ! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on South Street with its own private parking lot is this gem. What looks like a seemingly medium-sized house on the side of the street is this unique spot. Out back there are several smokers that are fed with wood on a regular basis. Once inside you'll see the rustic concept. Lots of wood everywhere and a pretty open concept. Directly in front of you is the circular bar and off to the left is the main dining room. The lighting is warm and inviting as well. Service: The whole staff really took care of us since we were a pretty big party. We had no issues whatsoever. Food: So I got to try A LOT of things here. I started off with the Just Peachy which is Crowne Royal Peach served with a whiskey-soaked peach and some sweet tea. It was deliciously well-balanced and simple with only 3 major ingredients. Next up was the Homestyle Honey Cornbread. This was very good, soft and simple, I do wish the butter was warmer though so that it was easier to spread. Next up was the Honey Sriracha Glazed Pork Belly. It was so soft, so tender, savory and flavorful. I loved the bit of char from the "skin" and the sweet/spiciness was a great addition. Next up was the Smokey Mac & Cheese that comes served in a super hot skillet and it was SUPER CHEESY, yet very thick as well. This was so delicious, peppery, a bit sharp, but I really enjoyed it. Next up were the Buffalo Cauliflower Wings which are an excellent menu choice for those that don't eat meat. They're served over a blue cheese coleslaw and this was an awesome idea! I was very impressed because coleslaw is usually made with mayonnaise, using bleu cheese was brilliant. The "wings" themselves were crispy and flavorful. Next up was the Farmboys Old Fashioned which is a twist on the original classic. In it is Basil Hayden Toast Premium Bourbon and other secret ingredients. This was delicious as well and was just a hint too sweet to me. Next up were the Super Sloppy Nachos. These are a concoction of melted cheddar, homemade cheese sauce, baked beans, ranch, BBQ sauce, scallions, jalapenos and pulled pork. You can get chicken instead if you wish. These were delicious and very straightfroward, but pretty heavy. I actually really liked the fresh jalapenos that provided a bit of a crunch along with the chips. Very good. Next up were the Brussels Sprouts which are served with crispy pork belly and hot honey sauce. I mean, I guess these aren't healthy as they once were anymore. Lol. These were straight though. I liked how they were cooked and the other flavors involved drowned out the actual Brussels flavor. Second to last was the beef brisket. It was amazing and was so incredibly tender. Just simply amazing. I don't have anything else to say. Lastly, the smoked wings. These were super tender and they still had a crispy skin! The smokey flavor was excellent and there were hints of Cajun, maybe creole in it as well. I loved these so much. Value: Barbecue is usually on a bit of the pricey side, but that's just the way it goes. The food usually takes a lot longer and time is money. That's about it. This place wasn't crazy though and the portions are big so you definitely get your money's worth. In conclusion, I really, really liked this place and just wish it were closer to me so that I could visit more often. However, if you're on that side of the state or not, make your way there to check them out!

My wife and son were super excited to try barbecue at this famous local spot, but we definitely caught them on an off night. Reviews are mostly good for this place, so I guess timing and circumstances are at play. My wife ordered the peach cocktail and they were out. I ordered the RIBS, they were out !!! They didn't have the sausage for the combination platter and came out a couple of minutes later saying they had it (most likely just seared because the smoke was not there when we were eating). They were out of Brussel sprouts. They were out of MUSTARD !! I ordered a house pilsner they were out and I ordered another beer. Need i say more? On a good note they can barbecue. The brisket was very good. Great smoke ring and true winner. The pulled pork and chicken both had good smoke. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but it was still good. Baked beans were good. My wife absolutely loved the cole slaw. Waitress was very good. Polite, apologetic and serviced us very well. We addressed our disappointment and hopefully by summer this famous BBQ spot can get back on track.

The atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming, and the staff was attentive without ever being rushed. It gave us a great chance to really enjoy the space and the food. We started with the two-cheese crostini, which ended up being one of the highlights of the night. The bread was perfectly crisp, and the cheeses had just the right amount of richness without being heavy. I also tried their seasonal non-alcoholic Spiced Apple-Lini, and it was surprisingly delicious--refreshing, slightly sweet, and very "fall in a glass." For my entrée, I ordered the chicken Milanese, and I have to say it might be the best I've ever had. I'm usually very particular about chicken dishes, but the flavor and texture were spot-on. The breading was light and crispy, and the chicken itself wasn't dry at all. The plate came with a beautiful mix of seasonal vegetables--roasted squash, shaved fennel, cranberries, and arugula--topped with an apple cider vinaigrette that pulled everything together. It tasted fresh, balanced, and really thoughtful. We ended the meal with their cheesecake served with a house-made pistachio crème. The flavor was fantastic, especially the pistachio topping, which really made it unique. My only tiny note is that I personally prefer cheesecake a bit colder and denser rather than closer to room temperature, but that's purely personal preference and didn't take away from enjoying it. The owner also came by to chat with us, and he was incredibly friendly--clearly someone who cares about his guests and the quality of the experience. Between the great service, thoughtful menu, and inviting atmosphere, we're already looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes. Definitely a strong addition to the Danbury dining scene.
