**Very disappointing experience - poor service, overpriced food, and unnecessary restrictions.** We waited far too long for our food to arrive, with very little attention from our assigned waitress. While we waited, we passed the time with a simple card game (nothing loud or disruptive), but were abruptly told we weren't allowed to play -- with no reason given. We respectfully stopped, but from that point on, our assigned waitress (Waitress 1) avoided serving us entirely, even though she was visibly standing around. Another staff member (Waitress 2) kindly tried to step in and assist, but it was clear our original waitress didn't want anyone else to help us either. The food was overpriced for the quality, and one dish I ordered wasn't to my taste. I politely asked if it could be removed from the bill since I barely touched it, but was told they couldn't cancel it because it had already been "ordered from the kitchen." Altogether, the experience felt unwelcoming and rigid, with very little focus on customer care. I won't be returning and would not recommend this place. read more

(we attributed this to the oil being used for fish based food as well but unsure) Entrees were better. Amazing homefries, great flavor and quality! Breakfast burrito was the way to go, so good! At the end of our visit, my mom was finishing her coffee & found a mystery item in it... which is disturbing. The food was great, but they failed to send me any utensils. The chicken salad sandwich was huge. It was very favorable. The bread was soft yet firm, and the portion was abundant. The fresh fruit was fresh, and the French fries were hot upon receipt. They were well-seasoned and tasted good. Overall, the food was good, and the portions were plentiful. read more

I finally had a late lunch here. Staff was really friendly and attentive, diner is clean and had a nice quiet ambiance. I enjoyed the soup of the day, creamy corn and shrimp. But wasn't impressed with my main dish, meatloaf. It was a just too salty for me, obviously you really don't need the gravy if it's that salty. Although the gravy was good, the mashed potatoes and the mixed veggies. I'll try something else next time. read more

Stopped for breakfast on your way back to Long Island. Family run business.... We were very impressed by the little boy bussing one of the tables!!! This kid literally sprayed and cleaned down the backs of all the chairs!!! We loved it!! The menu had soooo many wonderful choices that I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat. I ordered the country Benedict and my GF ordered the 2 eggs with shredded hash browns and a side of grits. The food was amazing!!!! Really hearty portions and simple food just done right!! The sausage gravy on the eggs was delicious!!! It was way too much to finish but I really wanted to eat every bite!!! The eggs were cooked perfectly as well!!! The food is normal restaurant fare, with the awesome edition of biscuits and gravy, which I think is really great. However, there is a South American hostess running the place as though she owns it, and if you displease her in anyway, she treats you like ****. For example: there's a young waitress in there who speaks almost zero English, and if you have any problems understanding her and ask for somebody to speak with, the older woman comes by with an air of high dudgeon and treats you horribly thereafter. I mean you're asking this sweet young girl for somebody you can speak English to, and this is the treatment you get? It's ridiculous. We never said anything rude, our smiles were always on our faces. Speaking of smiles, that same woman will treat you like crap, but smiles when it comes time for the paying of the check and the leaving of the tip. I really dislike this kind of two-faced behavior. I suppose a lot of people would overlook this, along with difficult communication, to just have a nice breakfast, but I'm rather sensitive to people not appreciating my business and being disingenuous to boot. read more

There was only one reason I frequented this place..BECKY!!. She never got the order wrong period.. So i go in this morning and sure as I expected the youngling was deaf and not focused.. ask for a very simple request, no butter on the English muffin.. Only 2 tables at 8:30 being served. Food was ready for a while but was to distracted yukking it up with the owner , then the light bulb in her head went off when they both noticed my look of WTF and then got my dish.. The yukking up kept going long past me finishing the plate when the light bulb went off again , oh yeah would you like more coffee. Got the coffee..Sat there another 15 minutes and had to ask to get a check and leave. Somebody else brought the bill.. So with with Becky I was in and out in 20 minutes with no mistakes.. Today was an hour.. Only myself and another table with 2 people.. Imagine when it's busy..Note to the Owner( FEMALE).. Stopped at Grandpa's Diner (in the former JK's building) while visiting my mom. The decor and music (50's style) are great. Our server was friendly and very attentive. Each of our meals were delicious. If I am no longer able to get a Texas hot weiner from JK's, this spot made it at least more bearable Looking forward to visiting again and trying the breakfast. read more

There was mold in the deserts and in my milk also the food is cold and discussing when I told them my sandwich didn't taste right which I have gotten there before they took it took a bite out of it and brought it back and said it was normal also the staff was on their phone for almost 30 minutes when we were waiting for the bill the whole place is discussing. read more

I went to grandpa's diner last night because I wanted to try a new restaurant in town. This is formally TK's. My guest and I had a cheesesteak (me) and the turkey club. The service unfortunately was not great. I may be nitpicking, but after the waiter took our order, it took maybe 10 minutes for us to get our sodas. My friend with the turkey club asked for thousand island on the side, and there was mayonnaise on the sandwich. My cheesesteak was only a eh. I'm glad I gave it a go but truthfully I won't be going back. There are so many things on the menu that it surprises me that they can do anything good. They literally need to cut the menu in half. read more

My server was extremely nice to me and my family constantly asking if we would like refills or if everything was going good. Food itself was great. Pancakes were soft and fluffy. I had a horrible experience yesterday. I placed a pick up order through Yelp/Grubhub for 12:30pm. I called the restaurant to pick up my order sooner. I spoke with 3 different people who didn't listen or comprehend what I was requesting before being hung up on. The lack of customer service was frustrating. I got to the restaurant and called in to confirm if my pick up order was ready just for them to tell me they never got it. I called Grubhub immediately to cancel my order & got my refund. Horrible customer service. Went today ordered a skillet for pickup due to not really liking eggs and hoping to get some chicken and vegetables with a side of egg. Do not order the skillet unless you plan on eating an omelet. The staff were unwilling to refund or switch the food she took out her menu and pointed out a sentence that states it is layered egg which is not listed on menus found online where order was placed. They could not understand that they were serving an omelet not a skillet. They took the omelette and chopped it up instead of putting it on the side of the potatoes as originally served and put it over the potatoes. It should have been my first clue that they had not a single customer in the diner. Would not recommend as the food tasted like shit and the customer service was horrendous. read more

First off, when I walk into an establishment, I don't expect to be greeted as, boss. Second, I was disappointed in the fact they did not have the Famous Texas Hot Weiners. I've been told they would continue, unfortunately for me not... I had a pastrami sandwich with mustard on rye. The mustard was sloppily applied and covered the outside of the crust. Tried out the new Grandpa's Dinner and we were very impressed. The staff was friendly and polite. Typical diner food - large menu with lots of options. The food was delicious. The Turkey Melt was juicy, not dry. The Chicken panini was full of flavor. The French fries were cooked perfectly - just the right amount of crisp. And the Eggs Benedict was very tasty. I am not sure what happened here. When this diner first opened, it was amazing. The waiter (Henrique) would walk around with a smile on his face and ensured your dining experience was great. Now, the portions are smaller, I sit here with an empty cup (no coffee) the entire time, the food tastes different (guessing it is a change in either chefs or cooking grease), and I feel as if I am bothering people when I ask for anything. Since this place is very close to my house, I order from here very often but as of tonight that will come to an end. 8 out of 10 times I have ordered, the food has been incorrect then to top that off at least 3 times the food wasn't even cooked and it had to be thrown out as it was NOT edible! My changes aren't drastic either just asking to remove items shouldn't be too much to ask for. I have received eggs and bacon that haven't been throughly cooked and French fries that were soggy and cold. It really saddens me because when the food is correct, it is delicious, but it is not worth the aggravation almost every time I go there. The worst part is that I have complained and I have not been offered any form of compensation or even a free dessert or soda or anything to show that my business means something to them so at this point, I will take my business somewhere else. Tonight, when my food was incorrect for the I don't know how many times I demanded a refund and was told they cannot do a refund only remake my food Which is not what I wanted but according to them, I had no choice. i LOVE grandpa's diner! i come here fairly regularly after an open mic with my friends. we are always seated quickly and served delicious food. but what stands out to me the most is our amazing server ANDRES!!!!! he is a rockstar!!! we tend to come on thursday nights when he is working and he greets us warmly and makes us feel like family. we all can't say enough how much it makes our night to see him and he is a KEY piece of what makes our grandpa's experience so special. read more

I was extremely disappointed with the service of this place and the marketing. We stopped by to grab a quick bite since we just arrived from a long trip. We saw grandpas diner and decided to give it a chance. When we sat down they had a paper menu as table tops so me and my fiancé ordered from this menu. Waitress stopped by and was going to give us physical menus but we told her no point we know what we want already we had a menu. She laughed and said ok great easy. The food was good a little greasy but okay. What really upset us was when the bill came and the prices didn't match. There was a 6 dollar difference on each sandwich so if one said 10 dollars it was really 16!!!! We showed the waitress and she said that it was another locations menu. We couldn't believe it, we asked to speak to someone in charge and she stated there was only the bus boy and her there. The fact there was no management running this place was unbelievable. Never bothered going back didn't even bother calling. Wouldn't recommend people who do business of that sort. Food isn't even worth it. read more

Ordered Philly Cheese Steak, onion rings, cole slaw and a soft drink. Total was just under $20, without tip. The Cheese Steak was tasty and a reasonable portion. The onion rings were over cooked, hard and I couldn't eat them, and the Cole slaw was small and almost unmentionable. Wi-Fi required a password. Restaurant was not busy at 5 pm. read more

Horribly run by the owners who aren't even present at the diner, they just watch the cameras and yell at the staff if they give a discount or something for free to make up for bad business. Went there for 11am on a Sunday (2 adults, 1 toddler), they were pretty busy (understandably) and after 20 mins, we asked if we even had a waitress. The waitress we asked took our drink order and said our waitress was new and in the weeds (again, understandable). Our waitress brought us our drinks then had to come back to take our order. After we ordered, we waited, and waited, and waited. We asked where our food was and were told the cook got 30 tickets at once due to to-go orders & was catching up. Huge mistake. If he was that far behind, they should stop taking to-go orders and worry about the customers in person. An HOUR goes by (for French toast & cheeseburger sliders) and we finally get our food - the French toast is stone cold. When we asked to remake it, we were told we'd have to wait a while again to get it (unacceptable, NOT understandable). The waitress said the cook is a 24 yr old a**hole who doesn't care but basically yelled at him to get ours right away. Time for the check and it's full price. We thought they would do something for all the inconvenience, just to be told they are not allowed because then the money has to come out of the waitresses pockets. If they give a free dessert, money comes out of waitresses pockets. And the owners just watch them on camera & listen to the things they say, they don't even show their their faces, just wrongly take customers money regardless of how wrong the establishment is. How bad for business that is! I suppose they must have a revolving door of waitresses because who would best to work in that kind of environment?! Will never go back. read more
