Was looking for a breakfast sandwich and rolls. Saw the glowing reviews and had to find it. Tucked away from Main Street, a couple minutes away. We actually passed it, because we saw the butchers sign first. Figured out they were attached. Store is very small. There are small tables arranged in the middle. If you choose to eat there, everyone will be looking at you. This place is popular so we waited on line. The ladies spoke primarily Portuguese. Only one understood English. There were lots of filled savory pastries. My husband chose the cheese empanada. I got an egg sandwich. They had to use a small Portuguese roll because they ran out of regular rolls. Hubby loved his empanada. Said he'd be back in a heartbeat. My egg sandwich was ok, but small. They had a really nice espresso machine that I would love to try . I walked in 10 minutes before they were closing on a Sunday. The staff were very nice. I had a craving for some Brazilian "pao de quejo" (cheese bread). I only wanted a few but they gave me all they had left and only charged me for half a dozen. The cheese bread gave me "saudade" for the time I spent in Brazil. The bakery itself was very nice. The place has indoor seating in the coffee shop/bakery area. The service is great and everything is authentic and/or imported. If you're looking for top tier Portuguese baked goods (breads, pastries) this is the place. Even if you're just looking to try something new, you can trust that at least 2 things in this bakery will satisfy your tastebuds. I always get custard tarts (Pastéis de Nata) and Portuguese rolls. I stopped in christmas morning with my grandma, prob not the best idea since the shop is so small and there was a line out the door, the wait time was tough on her. Typically, the bakery provides very fast service, it's clean, and serves fresh espressos and coffee that you can sip on while you sit at their bar style counter and eat a pastry. I'm thankful for this bakery, and the surrounding community for keeping this specific European culture alive. read more

I was looking for a bakery but also something different than the hundreds of Italian bakeries I am used to from living in Branford and New Haven and even Hartford. I was not disappointed! They have HIGE savory baked goods - I definitely don't know the names but the young gentleman working was happy to explain everything to me and I didn't feel like I was holding up the line because there was another lady working too. I got some little cup shape pastries with chicken in one and shrimp in another. I got a flat large circle bread with chicken and cream cheese. I also got a slice of a bread absolutely STUFFED with shredded chicken and cheese and onion and tomato. I got a few sweet egg custard variations (I wasn't as huge of a fan of them but I'm glad I tried something different than the delicious natas that I know I love). The rest of the store has a ton of options - salted flat fish, deli, meat, canned goods, etc. I will absolutely be back to try some of the desserts that come in little glass jars!! read more

My brother and I have decided to visit all the bakeries in the area to find some go-to places. Today, we visited International Bakery and were really impressed. The woman behind the counter was very friendly, and offered suggestions when we started asking what some of the food was. We ended up choosing a mini chicken pie and a slice of dulce cake (both were delicious). The place itself was very clean and comfortable, with several small tables to sit at. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They're also open for more hours than other bakeries we've been to, probably because they're not just a bakery--they have a butcher's shop next door (the shops are connected) and they sell cheese as well. The one difficulty is finding a place to park, but the food and service are so good that I don't mind. We definitely plan on returning to try their other baked goods. read more

First time stopping at this hidden Danbury gem. Located on East Liberty street. So many choices we didn't know what to get. Lots of Portuguese cheeses to pick from. Many pastries and breads to pick from. The bread is delicious. There is also a small market / butcher right next door. The place is small but they were busy. Parking is a bit tough but I will definitely support this small local business again. read more

Located in "Portuguese Square" in Danbury... it is a staple here apparently. My Portuguese boyfriend is obsessed with their fresh cut prosciutto...and now so am I. Their grinder rolls are the EPITOME of soft.. and every time I feel like they get softer. American cheese is always fresh. Prices are higher than a grocery store, but that is to be expected. But.... he will always pay $20/lb for their Prosciutto any day of the week, cut as he likes it. And now I am about to try a breakfast sandwich! read more

Do not go to some shitty chain for breakfast! This place is terrific! Great coffee. Awesome baked goods. Sandwiches for $3. Really a great little place. People working there, probably owners but not sure, were super nice and helpful because I didn't know what anything was. read more
