I visited Sy Donuts this morning for the first time. Thanks to Instagrams Enjoy Brea content creator I decided to check out Sy's. Kevin was very friendly, welcoming and really gives great customer service. I ordered 2 breakfast combos which were delicious!!! Coffee was so yummy too! While I was waiting, regulars were coming in and Kevin was greeting them by first name really showing the community connection. On my way out I was able to try a blueberry crumble donut and it was the best!! I definitely will be returning! Great job Kevin and Emily! read more

The customer service here is top tier! They really care about their business thriving and it shows. Plus the coffee is amazing, if you are an Iced coffee lover definitely check out their vietnamese coffee, it is chefs kiss 100/10. Best donut shop in town! They have a nice variety and we tried several different kinds, all great! They also have breakfast/lunch sandwiches and bagels. This place is a small neighborhood donut shop for many years. Now, with the new owner(the nephew of the original owner), they've added bagels to the original menu- plain, blueberry, cranberry, spinach, wheat, multigrain, cheese, jalapeño and more. The bagels are large, soft and chewy at the same time. Plain is my all time favorite. You must try breakfast bagels; it tastes even better than the name-brand ones. i don't live in the area but i was passing by to get to my dentist appointment so i wanted to treat my babies to some donuts and i happen to see this spot on my way. i was excited when there was a cookie monster donut since my daughter is obsessed with seseme street. i originally was going to get her the fruity pebbles donut but obviously had to get cookie monster! i decided to get a bagel for myself. while i waited for my bagel to be toasted i went out to give my daughter her donut. (i parked in front of the shop & her big cousin was in the car with her) my bagel decided to be ready really fast and so a male employee came out to bring me my bagel, which I thought was very sweet, but then he said " there's something special for you in the bag" I got in my car and opened the bag to my surprise. It was the first donut that I had picked out for my daughter! i was having a really hard and stressful morning and his kindness made my day! and of course the bagel and donuts were delicious and fresh! i will definitely stop by here every time we are in the area! read more

I remember when this donut place had a whole name Sysco Donuts, Through the years the letter is fallen off, but I still keep going, and they keep carrying the same things. My favorite is the Apple glass shape, apple juice donuts to change their always good I have never found a bad one. I love the way you can just sit and have a cuppa coffee , it usually the same people which you don't find anymore. It's always jumping run. And these people have been there for a long time and I appreciate them and I thank you go in and have a doughnut. I like them better than Krispy Kreme's that says a lot. read more

I live close and have been an occasional customer here over the years. I was craving a breakfast sandwich and had heard Sy's menu had expanded under the new ownership. I just ate my new favorite breakfast sandwich. It was fresh and delicious! I also "had" to try a donut and it was perfect! The owners are friendly and personable and I will be a much more frequent visitor. The prices are very good too! I always prefer to buy local from a small business and Sy Donuts did not disappoint. read more

The comments about them being rude is very true. They hate their job or their customers but they are not friendly and don't speak to u when you walk in. My problem is the lady charged me a whole dollar for using my card on a $5 purchase. They dont say they charge, they didnt say they would charge or the amount & when i called to ask what they charge for paying with card the man says "if you go to the dentist they charge $30 so $1 is nothing" and i said well if $1 is nothing then DONT charge it. My dentist has never charged for using card and there are laws against this. He is charging 20% and California law is no more than 5%. read more

Meh. Stopped by this place because it's near my workplace and I figured most random donut shops should be the same-ish. Boy was I wrong. Pulled up to park in front of the shop...cause I was going to walk into the shop and purchase donuts... As I was gathering my stuff to leave the car (taking my keys out of the ignition and putting it in my pocket, putting on my face mask, placing my wallet in my pocket...), I see the shop owners inside, staring me down. The man was getting something from the drink fridge near the entrance and the woman was sweeping by the window. Legit, they both stopped what they were doing and just stared at me as if I were doing something wrong by parking my car in front of their shop and going inside to purchase donuts. Should have just left at this point...but I went inside anyway because I really wanted some donuts! I walk in and legit no one says anything to me, even after I greeted them with a hello. I ask to buy a 1/2 dozen of donuts, some donut holes, and a drink. The woman cautiously glares at me as she fills my box with my donuts. Another lady walks in at this point and also gets no greeting (at least the rudeness is towards everyone). I pay and I wait for her to blend up my drink. The entire time this is going on, she continues to ignore the other lady who patiently waited for her attention. She finishes making my drink and hands me the drink and says bye. No frills, no emotion, no nothing. She then turns to the other lady who had been waiting and cheerfully says, "Hi! Welcome. What can I get for you??" Oh. My. Goodness. Unbelievable. Anyway, I didn't come here for a warm welcome or cheerful conversation. I came here for donuts -- and they sucked. The donuts were dry and the glaze on the donut holes were sparse. It tasted like day old donuts that were left outside the entire time. Both the donut holes and the donuts were dry and dense. There was also a fly flying around in the donut case and the lady didn't even attempt to shoo it away or anything. Yuck. Won't be coming back to this place. As my husband and I walked in and said hello to the lady that was seating reading her magazine she didn't say a thing and put her magazine down as if saying great I can't keep on reading it. Got 12 donuts, 6/12 where not fresh you can tell by the color, consistency and taste, they were refried. The ones with filling where fresh and tasty so I would suggest to go for them or the classic glaze ones. Caramel coffee was too sweet and didn't taste like coffee. Place was clean. I wouldn't come back just because I like good service, friendly service; if I'm being polite and I'm a customer supporting your business, the very least that you can do is greet people. read more

I have come here a handful of times only because it's on the way to drop off my son at his school and he wanted a donut. As other reviewers mentioned, the owners are grumpy and they glare at you when you come in. They are in the service business. They either need to take a customer service class or have a business that doesn't deal with customers. The donuts are average, nothing to write home about about. I highly recommend going to PK donuts down the street. Their customer service is awesome and donuts are delicious! I notice lots of folks have had disappointing visits based on customer service assessments. I too found the apparently senior married couple less than friendly, at first. I decided that I liked their product and also decided to win them over. Just as a personal experiment at first, but my greeting them cheerfully began to be met with the same in a surprisingly short amount of time. This place is a total rip off! I bought 3 donuts and they charged me $6.50. On top of that one of my donuts tasted and smelled like bleach. After thinking about it when I had walked in this day the wife was mopping the floor right near the donuts so I'm almost positive bleach got on the donuts. We found this donut shop about two years ago when our son started his private tennis lessons in Brea. It was by accident when looking for some coffee and donuts while waiting during the lessons. They by far have the freshest donuts around. When I say "around",  I live in Downey near a Randy's donut and I make the 23 miles trip to Brea for these fresh pieces of goodness at SY Donuts. Sometimes you read reviews and it's a little exaggerated. Unfortunately does not apply with this donut shop. The owners are the least friendliest people ive ever met. You walk in, give a friendly hi, the wife looks at you annoyed that you're even there. She put our donuts in a box with a aggression as if we're wasting her time when all she was doing prior was reading a magazine. Her husband wraps up the pay, says hi but a very sarcastic "hurry up and leave" hi. Donuts are just okay. There's a few donut shops in the area. If you want to start your day on the wrong foot with negative energy, come here. Otherwise I suggest supporting businesses that actually care about their customers. read more

I've been coming here for about 15 years now. Not sure why people get so hung up on the 'customer service' because the donuts are top notch. It's pretty hard to find a donut that isn't oily enough to soak a napkin and give one a bad tummy ache, but SY DONUTS are light and airy and NEVER greasy! I've never ever had anything other than fresh donuts from here. In terms of the owners, I've learned how to get both of them to smile and chat. They are lovely, hardworking Americans who grew up in other cultures. Only in America do we expect a smile from people all the dang time. read more

Placed an order over the phone this morning. Picked up the order,got home and it was wrong. Called and spoke the owner who is a man. I told him my order was wrong he asked me what's wrong with it? I told him I ordered two chocolate on chocolate donuts but the ones I received have chocolate sprinkles which I did not order that way. He proceeds to ask me what's wrong with sprinkles we don't like sprinkles they're gross. he asked me if I would like to bring them down and exchange them I don't have time I asked him if he can refund me I'd have to come down and bring the donuts. Are you kidding me!!!! He got very rude which is nothing unusual because he's always rude. I told him I will never do business with him again and he said good. Have been coming here for years and think today may have been our last visit. The donuts have never been fantastic, but OK and sometimes good, and the owners have never been pleasant, so we never expected friendly service. Good ham and cheese croissants usually, but again not consistent. The store is around the corner from where we live, so convenient and we like to support small businesses. However we will now be branching out to other donut shops in the area to find something better. Today our donuts were plain looking - nothing fancy or pretty like I often see in other shops. They tasted OK, but had an underlying chemical taste that makes me think they might be overusing their oil when frying the donuts. The apple fritter and maple cruller were especially off in taste. It's always sad when small businesses drop the ball on quality and good customer service because this leads to losing customers. Hope they read their Yelp reviews and strive to improve so that they can continue in business. read more
