One of the best kept secrets in South Beach is Swoop !! People living on the beach are notorious for not wanted to leave the beach. Why would we all the cool stuff is here already and we don't need to pay for parking, walk most of the time or we could take a cheap cab ride or we can SWOOP !!! Swoop is a slightly pimped up electric golf cart that you can call to pick you up from any bar or night club on the beach and they will take you to the next bar or restaurant or even drop you off at your apartment building or hotel. They will also take you on late night Pizza runs too. The best part is that the price is FREE !! The only ask for tips and semi decent behavior while riding in the car. FREE rides from noon to 2 am from 1st street to 26th street and Ocean Drive to the bay but I have them out later on weekends. It seats 5-6 comfortably and be prepared to wait awhile on a busy night but still so much more fun that a DUI. Last time I was on there, I has a guy with a big ass snake riding in the front seat while my friend was yelling " SWOOP SWOOP SWOOP " and we hit Dewey's, Ted's and 8 Ounce all in one night for only $5 to the driver. We called from each place when we were done and SWOOP appeared. So go ahead and put that number in your cell now because even you come from the mainland you can park your one place and have SWOOP drive you around in open golf cart style for the night. read more

Swoop was our primary mode of transportation while in Miami. You text them with your location and your destination, and they let you know how long the wait will be. And it usually is only a few minutes. One evening they were busy and our wait was going to be thirty minutes so we walked instead. The drivers are very friendly and helpful with suggestions and tips about the area. The farthest we took Swoop was from Lincoln Rd to Joe's Stone Crab so they do go quite a distance. Someone mentioned from 1st to 26th Street. They also operate to midnight. Maybe later on the weekend. The rides are also free. The drivers are paid through advertising. I don't know what took me so long. I would see the Swoop cars swooping around the streets of Sobe, jamming and chilling -- and I looked at them with skepticism. I know, I know. But, you have to understand: at times, late(r) at night, they would pull up beside me and ask me if i wanted a ride. Having seen little red riding hood, I would scream "No!" and run from the bad man. Maybe it was an overreaction. Maybe it was a go-cart with neon lights and not a van with blacked-out windows. Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows. All I know is that I would see one of those things careening around the streets and I'd hold my schoolbooks close to my chest and squint so as to memorize the license plate. Then, one day I was with a bunch of my colleagues on Collins and we needed to race up to Alton & 16th. Like, immediately. Cabs in SoBe are an exercise in frustration so who comes to our rescue? Swoop! I didn't know what to expect... but soon after I buckled my seatbelt and held on for dear life, I started to change. As we flew by the folks on the street, I began to enjoy the experience. As the vehicle started blasting music and pumping bass, I really got into it. By the time we arrived at our destination, I was bummed it was over. And -- here's the really good part -- the entire experience was FREE. FREE! Can you believe it? Nothing in South Beach is free. Incredible. These drivers work on tips and due to the cool set up, tight music and their kind personalities, my colleagues and I made it rain on our driver. It's actually a good setup. It was about 2 miles from our hotel on Espanola Way to Nikki Beach. I texted the phone number, gave our location, destination and number in our party. Got a reply within a minute or so saying a driver was 5 minutes away. We made four trips on Swoop today and we're very happy with the experience. The open electric vehicles move easily through traffic, the driver has music playlists yo suit any taste, he was personable and professional. He got stuck in traffic encounters yo pick us up on the last run (during rush hour) and texted us three times with status updates. This is a great way to get around SoBe. Seven of us squeezed into a glorified golf cart, which because of the weight of the 8 people (including the driver), topped out at a blazing-fast 16 mph and threatened to tip over at any time. Couple that with an awesome driver (didn't catch his name but I see his pics in some of the reviews) and the inappropriate-for-8-white-guys-in-a-golf-cart-to-be-blasting-while-driving-down-the-streets-of-South-Beach music and you're in for the ride of your life. I had a really great experience with Swoop. My friends and I were out celebrating and wanted to go to another bar but had no means to get there. One of my friends had used Swoop before and called them to take us. The driver, James, arrived promptly and was a really nice guy! Ok. So we were lucky enough to get Swooped on the way to the Serafina opening. The driver (James) was punctual and hilarious! I can honestly say that riding on this door-less electric car was the highlight of the evening. It was like a drive and a comedy show wrapped up in a mobile party. My friends and I had such a blast. We posed in back of his swoop-mobile and took a picture with the McAllister Spa. As in text for a pick up at 3 and did not ever receive any response; we were planning to go to Lincoln Road at 8. The first time I texted an hour before, and maybe I should've expected nothing on short notice.
