I had the opportunity to try Sweets and Meats for the first time at the Xavier game. They are a new vendor this year in Duff's Food Hall in the banquet room at Cintas for basketball games. We arrived right as the game was starting and they were out of the pulled pork sandwiches, so we chose the pulled chicken instead! I think this was the best shredded chicken sandwich I have ever had! The chicken was SO flavorful, even without barbecue sauce. The buns were also super sweet and fluffy, and perfectly soaked up the juices from the sandwich to round out the flavor. They did an excellent job helping us choose the right amount of food for 120 guests while staying within our budget. We ordered pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, mac n' cheese, collard greens, cauliflower wings, and baked beans--everything was absolutely delicious! The pulled pork was smoked in advance, and they brought a 12-foot trailer with a grill/smoker to cook the burgers and hot dogs fresh on-site. Guests kept raving about how amazing the food was. Simply a great local BBQ joint. It's clear that they're using their own homemade recipes and taking care to make everything perfection. I tried the pulled chicken, which was incredibly juicy, tender, and well seasoned. So often I find that pulled chicken is dry and flavorless, so this was a great relief. It hardly even needed the sauce! The mac and cheese really stole the show though. The noodles were the perfect al dente, and I could tell they used fresh cheese when I got that beautiful stringy cheese pull. I'm a mac n cheese snob...but I've heard such good things about their mac n cheese I had to try it when I saw them at the Blue Ash food truck rally. That's all I got...just mac n cheese. Now, I don't know if it was because they just opened and the food wasn't warmed well or what, but I was disappointed. It wasn't hot-melty-cheesy. It was warmed-up-from-last-night consistency. Not good. It has a distinct flavor unlike any mac n cheese I've had before...there's some spice in there that I couldn't put my finger on...I don't know. I didn't finish it. An absolute gem of a small business. The staff, and especially the owner, are good people - they smile, they serve great food, they contribute to the community, and they routinely offer great specials and prices. I've never once gone in, called, or visited their food truck, and gotten anything less. I've gone to their store location three or four times. Had pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, rib tibs, mac and cheese, greens, cornbread, just about everything except their desserts (though I've heard VERY good things). Not a single time have I ever been disappointed. Their mac and cheese is my favorite in the city, bar none. Even recently, when I visited their food truck at a rally up in West Chester, they were turning out high quality, flavorful food, quicker than just about anywhere else I went. Food was good but administrative team lacks integrity. Had I placed a review for this business in the past I would have given 5 stars, but an incident occurred that they were at fault for. A contract was signed and there was an error in billing. No contact was made about the error and the business decided to modify the signed contract without notifying me. After making the modification, they opted to take their payment from the card on file. When I attempted to pay them with a different form of payment on the pickup day, I was told my account was complete. After further review, I discovered the credit card charge that was higher than the contractual amount. I reached out to the business using one of the phone numbers they had used to contact me in the past and no response was given. I filed a dispute via AMEX for the difference of the balance and the business reached out a month later with an abundance of questions. I addressed the questions but didn't include attachments. The owner was adamant that no errors had been made on their part. I responded with the initial signed contract, refuted that no calls had been made but an email thanking me for my payment and no response to my inquiry. Had the company just called me to discuss the error, not taken an unauthorized payment form my corporate card and owned their mistake all would be well. Now things are not. On top of this they mentioned another event, that I was affiliated with and how payment was not received. Yet failed to mention that grace was given for the payment and when the other group attempted payment the drop off was cancelled due to the owner being sick. Let's also mention the food truck was about 45 minutes late for the other event. A little integrity goes a long way! read more

Coming from KC, I am very particular about my BBQ. Specifically, this review is for the pulled chicken bbq sandwich with a few sides. The chicken sandwich was very good. Was it the best sandwich I've ever had? I can't tell you because I usually don't do chicken. I tend to go for burnt ends or pulled pork. The flavor was robust and the chicken very tender. They also had chicken wings, but I'm not into bone-in chicken, so I didn't try it. I ordered my chicken sandwich with mac'n'cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread. The cornbread was kind of dry, but still had good flavor. The mac'n'cheese and coleslaw though - were a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich. The only thing I was kind of bummed about was that it was served with Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. I would prefer a more unique bbq sauce or even a KC-sauce to be served with this sandwich. The service was very friendly. I chatted with the gal taking orders and prepping food (she might be the owner, I'm not sure). She was very friendly. They brought everything too (plates, really high quality napkins/silverware pre-rolled). Finally, I finished off my meal by trying a small sample of the peach cobbler and the banana pudding. I think if you're really into banana pudding, it would be a hit, but it was so rich, I could not finish it - but so good. And the peach cobbler was warm and very tasty. If I see this food truck out and about, I'll definitely try it again. Oh, one last thing. About a year ago, hubs and I stopped at their food truck during a show at Stanbery Park and we just weren't really impressed. Since then, we've watch Sweets & Meats become a brick and mortar and take over Mt. Washington and social media with their awesome reviews and winning titles for good BBQ. We gave it another shot because we do see SO many great reviews. The pulled pork sandwich has grown on me, I also love their sauce. My unpopular opinion is that the Mac and Cheese isn't quite "crack Mac and Cheese" as self proclaimed. I just wasn't a fan. We had a mishap with one of our meals and the owner went above and beyond by refunding part of our meal. Totally unexpected but very appreciated. 5 stars for customer service. I'm dying to try the desserts; strawberry crunch cake and banana pudding. They both look divine. The brisket is also well known as being pretty awesome. Sweets & Meats made what could have been a complete washout of a party such a success. Helene came through and dumped an onslaught of rain on our company picnic, but they proactively called nearby shelters to attempt to move the party indoors, and were ready with a slew of options to pivot our planned event. They really went above and beyond working with us to make this come together rain or shine and not only was everyone raving about the food, but they kept saying how amazing the service was! They really made a point to ensure everyone was taken care of, and we were just impressed by how calm and present they were, too. So many food trucks have a hustle and bustle vibe--which normally we think nothing of it-- but Kristen was so calm and conversational the entire time, pitching in everywhere she could. It's not hard to see why they come so highly recommended, we really enjoyed having Sweets & Meats, and couldn't have done it without them. We look forward to having them at our next event! read more

After years of failed attempts to try Sweets & Meats BBQ in Mt. Washington, I finally procured a meal here. Sweets & Meats started hawking their wares right off the smoker outside of Mount Washington Creamy Whip. My first few attempts to try them found them sold out. Good sign, but sad for me. I tried to get to the truck several times and just couldn't make it work out. Since the brick and mortar location opened, I've gone a few times only to find it closed or out of what I wanted. That comedy of errors ended yesterday. After missing out on their mythical meatloaf earlier in the week, I found an opportunity to get it again as part of their 5th anniversary (congratulations!) celebration. It was worth the 5 year wait. I had the smoked meatloaf, green beans and mac and cheese. It is all clearly made from scratch, this is homemade food made with care and love. The owner herself waited on me and I shared my many failed attempts to try their food. She comped me a dessert for my troubles, a chocolate cake which my daughter assured me was delicious. My meal was fantastic. Though I was eating from a styrofoam container with a plastic fork, I may have as well been eating something straight out of my mom's kitchen on real plates. It was homestyle food prepared well and served hot. The green beans were ok, giant hunks of ham added flavor to the otherwise boring dish making it a fine side. The mac and cheese which I had tasted before when my son had it is fantastic. My mom made a legendary mac and cheese and this reminds me of hers at least in style and consistency, a clear indication that its made from scratch food. The cheese is delicious and binds the macaroni together. There's an unexpected slickness to this mac and cheese, a bite that I cannot identify. It seems like just black pepper, but its clearly spicier. Love it. The meatloaf, which I've been wanting to try forever met every expectation. This isn't your mom's ketchup covered meatloaf. This is a revelation. It's stuffed with cheese, and peppers and onions and who knows what else is in it. It's not a solid slice, but definitely not mushy; I'd be interested to see how this holds up with what is most important about meatloaf, leftovers for sandwiches the next day. But this is so good I cannot imagine there being leftovers. This business is good about keeping customers informed on social media and are candid about their business struggles and successes. They need your support and I would recommend them highly. Location is problematic. Mt. Washington is a beloved community by its residents, and as a former resident I am fond of Cincinnati's east most neighborhood, but they are tucked in the Dairy Mart strip center and it's just not a great spot. Oh my word! I stopped in at sweets and meats today for lunch. I've known the owner for a few years at this point, but this is the first time I've actually eaten here or any of their food. It is amazing! It's nice that they finally have a store location instead of just the food truck, but I'm also a huge fan of food trucks. I ordered the brisket sandwich. Oh my gosh, you don't even need barbecue sauce with their brisket. It is so tender and moist, that it's not just amazing. I also got a side of coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Those are two things that I'm extremely picky about, so they weren't 100% my favorite. However, they were good. As I said, i'm really super picky about how I like my coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Usually I'm not a M&C dude, but theirs is legit. Baked beans are BBQLicious as well. It's been a while since I've been, but the pulled pork sandwich was on par. Sauce was complimentary as it should be. Not served with the sauce on, but on the side. Very good. When I see such high ratings on Yelp I expect great things. I ordered rib tips, greens, and Mac n cheese. The greens were a 5! Mac n cheese 4- (a bit too dry, but good) the rib tips -3. I was really hoping for some good tips but they were bland. I'm from TX so maybe my expectations were too high. I ordered the brisket combo and 2 sides plus half a rack of baby back ribs. I arrived at 5:30pm, walked into the door and nobody acknowledged my arrival (despite them having 4-5 workers working, one was on the phone). I waited for about 5 minutes (with no other customer in the store) only to be told "SORRY, WE DIDN'T FILL YOUR ORDER BECAUSE WE OVER SOLD." Sweets & Meats is approximately 20 mins drive from downtown without traffic and it took me about 30 minutes to get there with traffic and construction on columbia parkway. They then mentioned that they had tried calling me to notify me, but I just didn't pick up. I checked my phone and they did call me at around 5ish but I had already left my place and was driving; they didn't leave a voicemail either (and my VM isn't full). To sum up, (imo of course) if I place an order and they accepted it, then I should get my order.
