I visited Texas Joe's when their food truck was catering an event I was attending. The woman working the widow was upbeat. Even in repeating the same information and menu over and over again, her voice remained positive. She answered people's questions thoroughly. Menu choices were either tacos or a bowl. Choice of beef, chicken or veggies. Food was up quickly. They may be known for their brisket, but let's stop for a minute and talk about their chicken. Chicken was tender, flavorful and plentiful. One could see the seasoning all over the chicken. It was my absolute favorite part of the tacos. Cabbage was crisp and fresh. If you tell them you like is spicy, they will include a little container of spicy salsa. There was a lingering smokey heat from the salsa. I was not as wowed by the brisket as I was the chicken. When I was asked if I wanted rice, I replied no. The dish came with rice anyway. read more

We kicked off Spring Break by having a food truck day at school AND it was amazing! The brisket is absolutely the best in the tri-state, HANDS DOWN! If there were 10 stars we would give Chef Joe & Niko 12+!! Their food is delicious and only surpassed by their incredible hospitality and service. Our family of 7 loves all of their options, and we even have a vegetarian among us. Can't even pick a favorite!! Whenever we are at an event w/foodtrucks we make them our first stop. We have also booked them for family graduation parties and fundraising events and guests continue to rave about how good their food is!! My husband and I decided to try this food truck because it was the only truck at the event with a vegetarian option. I applaud them for having a vegan/vegetarian option, but it could use some improvement. Basically, it was a bowl of cabbage with a few veggies and some rice on top. A $14 bowl of cabbage, which is the same price as the bowl with meat. It was about 90% cabbage. It had a small drizzle of some sort of guacamole dressing, it was rather dry and needed more dressing. It had about six black beans on top. A vegetarian needs at least half a cup of beans to get some decent protein. Also, the other veggies were sparse, only a few pieces of squash, zucchini and peppers. The saffron rice is not vegan because it is cooked with chicken broth (it would taste just as good with veggie broth btw). The food tastes good, but could definitely use some improvement on the vegetarian/vegan options. read more

They were outside O'Bryan's in Loveland yesterday, tried the brisket taco, it was excellent! The lady was very friendly, the mood was great, the truck colorful and did I mention the taco excellent?! We tried the Chipotle Chicken Taco today at the Union Center Food Truck Festival. It was incredibly good! Quality ingredients and low prices = WIN! The taco was $4 and was overstuffed! I don't typically like black beans, but the black bean salsa was very good. The slaw and cheese on the taco were top notch. I will definitely eat here again next time I see them out. read more

Last month was the second annual Food Truckin' for Josh Cares down on Fountain Square. Over $33,000 was raised for Josh Cares, an organization that make sure no seriously ill child feels alone and afraid while hospitalized. It is estimated that over 1,500 people gathered on the square during the three-hour event to sample food from 10+ Cincinnati food trucks. I can attest to the large crowd, as it was packed upon my arrival just before 1 PM. I was only able to sample food from one truck, but fortunately it was one that was new to me. Joseph Garcia, owner of Texas Joe, was born and raised in the heart of the South, Houston, Texas. According to his website, "His food comes from generations of family home cooks that didn't measure or use recipes." With the exception of the tortillas, Garcia prepares all the items on his menu from scratch. He offers quesadillas, tacos and tostados with a variety of meat: including chipotle pulled chicken, braised beef brisket and 12-hour hickory smoked pork. Unfortunately it seems that Texas Joe was working with an abbreviated menu for the food truckin' event. The only thing on the menu for the day was tacos (1 for $4), however they were not the standard tacos either. Normally the tacos come topped with black bean and corn salsa, shredded cabbage, and grated cotija cheese, which sounds awesome! The tacos for this day did not have the salsa or cabbage but were instead served topped with a mix of sautéed vegetables. Both the chipotle chicken and the vegetables tasted good, but they did not blend well together and I found it to be a rather odd combination. I really wish I could have tried to taco as advertised on the standard menu, as it sounds so much better than the funky combination I was served on this day. The food was freshly prepared and tasted good, but I feel that it wasn't a very Tex-Mex inspired dish. I look forward to seeing Texas Joe out again so that I can try the true "Legal Menu." read more

I was quickly greeted by Joe himself who had a nice display of a few menu items to give you a sense for what you were about to get yourself into. Joe was very pleasant and personable. I tried both the beef brisket taco ($5) and chipotle chicken taco ($4). Beef brisket is definitely what you are looking for here... very fresh taste, with excellent flavoring of the beef. Chicken taco was better than average, but don't bother if the brisket isn't already sold out. Hard to pony up $5 for a medium size taco, but worth it. I always get super excited to see fellow Texans out here in Cincy! So when I saw Texas Joe's food truck, I knew I had to try it. I ordered the brisket quesadilla ($10), and enjoyed it! I hear that they make everything by scratch here (except for the tortillas), and I really admire that. The brisket was more like slow-cooked beef than brisket...It was not smoked, so I'm not sure if I would call it authentic Texas brisket. But it was still VERY tasty, so I'll overlook that. The quesadilla was cheesy and filling, get the sour cream on top and make sure to dip it in that delicious salsa on the side! The salad it was served with was bland and needed a dressing or something, we didn't even eat it. I don't really like the "Legal Mexican" jokes...They make me a little uncomfortable (as a child of immigrants, maybe I just don't get the joke). But the people working here seemed to be very nice. I went to the Bellevue Farmer's Market and saw a food truck. Nice addition. While I enjoy shopping. I get hungry but most things we buy there are for take home. It was good to see a food truck to scratch that hunger itch. There's not much to say. They not only satisfied my food truck requirements of serving decent food hot and quick but used fresh ingredients that could have been bought off the farmer at the market that morning. There was simply a lightness and freshness to the tacos. My wife and I shared two tacos ($7). We'd both had a bite before coming so were happy to share but two would make a nice lunch. read more

Got to try Texas Joes for the first time today at the Taste of Cincinnati and while it was good, it wasn't mind-blowing. My husband ordered the chicken tacos with extra hot sauce and while he said they were good, they were extraordinarily bland for having "extra hot sauce" on them. I had the BBQ brisket taco, which was truly delicious. It definitely wasn't as good as the Korean BBQ tacos I had at the Red Sesame food truck, but it was still very enjoyable. What wasn't enjoyable was how disorganized the order-taker was. We really didn't have to wait that long, but our order was mistakenly given to another couple and they didn't realize till they caught a glance of us waiting, at which point they said, "oh! We just gave your order away." Yeah, I noticed. They resubmitted our order and a few minutes later we were on our way. My husband and I visited this food stand one afternoon while at the Bellevue Farmer's Market. We caught them right as they were starting to pack up the booth, but they eagerly agreed to make us lunch. I had the pulled pork quesadilla and my husband had the pork tacos. Very disappointed in the Chipotle Chicken Taco. Line moves slow, price with bottled water was $11.00 and I tossed it after eating just a few bites. Full disclosure, I wasn't aware it was on a bed of cabbage. I was told by others around it was "like Chipotle" but there was no rice and no yummy taste. I could have almost bought two Chipotle burrito bowls for the price of one of these things and I never throw Chipotle away. read more

I tried Texas Joe's food truck at the Bacon Fest at Coney Island. I was pleased to see that they offered a vegetarian option even though it was bacon fest. The lady who took my order was polite and asked all kinds of questions to make sure what kind of vegetarian I was to cater to my tastes. She also let me know it may take a moment because they would cook it separate from the other foods on the grill. It didn't take very long and it wasn't bad. It was decently priced as well. read more
