We loved this place. It's charming - like an old house converted to a restaurant, with multiple rooms and charming period decor. We were seated in a booth in a quietish room and it was lovely - we could hear each other and see other spots but it was a bit like being in our own little world. The food was great. I had the Alaskan halibut with crab and creamy risotto and I loved it. My husband had the pecan-crusted chicken. We both had salads, and I ordered a piece of carrot cake to go. I thought we were going to rent a U-Haul for that piece of cheesecake. It was about 1/4 of a big cake. It was good...not my favorite carrot cake, but good. We stopped in for dinner and they were busy this Wednesday night. We all ordered chicken. I had the bean soup and spinach salad along with green beans and mashed potatoes. This fried chicken was simply the best I've ever had. It was juicy and had a very thin crust bursting with flavor. All of my sides were very good. Several servers standing in corner talking, lots of hostesses standing at the stand, lots of others standing around the buffet chatting. When I lived in Ky I would eat there 2 to 3 times a month . I have moved to Ohio now and haven't had the chance to eat there for 3 years. My son and I stopped to eat there for lunch and I was surprised how the quality has gone down and prices have gone up . Was charged a fee for using a credit card . We called this morning to reserve a Sunday brunch for two and they set us up for 12:45. We got there by 12:35 and the host (short man in his 30s with a slight limp) told us that we will be seated at exactly 12:45. We sat on the adjacent couch next to the host stand and waited. Guest with and without reservation were seated in less than a minute after the approached the host. At 12:47 and the parlor is completely empty with guest, we approached the host and asked when are we going to be seated...instead, he randomly punch his tablet and told us to wait some more time. This has been a favorite in my family for years! I went for the first time a few weeks ago with my parents and my brother. We split a ton of appetizers and had drinks before our meal. I loved the Goetta Egg Rolls. It's a cool take on a local staple. Everyone was happy with their meal. We each got something different and enjoyed stealing forkfuls of food off each other's plate. Our server was very helpful when we needed to choose between dishes when ordering. For dessert, we got the Peanut Butter Pie and it was amazing! I'm still dreaming about it. Terrible breakfast. Everything tasted like it was cooked the night before, put on a plate and warmed up in a microwave. I spoke with a manager and she gave me the option of not paying but I already some of it so I payed anyway. Her reason for the poor food quality was "they were new at breakfast". We had a 7pm reservation for four the evening before Valentine's Day 2026. We were seated promptly at a four top in a room adjacent to the bar. My wife and I were joined by long time friends. We are familiar with this establishment and enjoy its country decor and home style cooking. Our friends were first timers. The place was packed as one would expect on a Friday evening but then add in the Valentine's crowd. Our server was Edward. He was a busy, busy man. Soon he was at our table with waters for all and taking our drink orders. My wife ordered an Expresso Martini and I went with their 'New Fashion'. The special for the evening was a dinner of a house salad, 2 Filet Medallions with flash fried potatoes and asparagus and a dessert of their Bread Pudding. We both opted for the special, medium rare, a tough decision though knowing well that their fried chicken dinner is hard to pass up! Dinner arrived in a reasonable time and it did not take long to discover that these Medallions were perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. Not a surprise, though, based on our previous experiences here. Our friends were pleased with their selections too and so dinner was a success. During our dinner the dining room began to clear and we felt at ease staying at our table for some good conversation. Edward continued to take good care of us while he began to do his closing chores. Still a place mainly for people over 70. We ate at 6pm on a Friday night and the place was full, by 7:30 everyone was gone. This time I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. The chicken was excellent, the potatoes were awful (didn't even take home the leftovers). They were dry, cold, and tasteless. Get the onion rings to share with the table, they were good, too. Our server was friendly and clearly very patient and used to dealing with an older crowd. Since we were celebrating a milestone birthday, they gave all of us a free dessert. 100+ year old restaurant that evokes a nostalgic charm and is loosely centered around horse racing and local area happenings of long ago. To me, it felt like much hasn't changed to in restaurant since the 80's and that this was the place where local businessmen made lots of deals. We sat in the bar area and the air conditioning was blowing uncomfortably the entire time. I had the chicken salad croissant, which oddly is served unassembled and you must assemble it yourself. The angel Pasta with chicken was huge but the chicken pieces were not necessary & they seemed to be Tyson strips.-not homemade. The hot brown was a classic that was very popular. We had a great dinner at Greyhound last night! We had not been in a couple of years and couldn't figure out why that was. The interior of the restaurant looks and feels so nice (and possibly recently refreshed?), but the prices for sandwich meals were similar to a more casual restaurant. We ordered the cheese sticks and pimento cheese for the kids to snack on while we waited for dinner. The cheese sticks came with very good marinara for dipping and the pimento came with fried pita points - both were devoured quickly, hence no photos! For dinner, I had a Reuben which was so big, I brought half home for lunch the next day. Our kids shared the grilled cheese meal and ate every last bite (not normal for them ). My husband had the barbecue on a bun and said it was delicious. We went on a Wednesday at 6 pm, and we were seated quickly. We can't wait for our next visit! read more

We sat at the bar and had dinner yesterday. We've been going there for 35 years. it has always been one of our favorite restaurants. But, since it was bought out a couple years ago it has gone down hill. They remodeled the restaurant and raised the prices. That would not be that big of a deal if the food was still as well prepared as it was before. We had the greyhound brown, the cod sandwich and cheese sticks. The greyhound brown had no taste at all. Very bland. My cod sandwich had stale rye bread that broke apart when I started eating it as a sandwich. The tomato slice was not anything that I would want to eat. It had a lot of hard white parts. The piece of romaine lettuce did not even cover the bread. The sandwich used to be awesome. We were disappointed the last time we went there and more disappointed this time. Felt like he was just going through the motions. Took almost 10 minutes before he even came over to us. (It wasn't packed as there were other open tables) When he did, he asked us what we wanted and that was it. Nothing else. Never came back to see how everything was. He also never asked us if there was anything else we wanted...just brought us the check. Disappointing to say the least. So, if you have a LOT of time to sit and wait then go for the food. When my friend suggested we lunch here, I immediately went to Yelp and checked it out. And my friends reviews made me a little concerned because there were references to older diners, bland food and high prices. But after getting out of the friends section (whose reviews were all dated) and into more recent reviews, things were looking up. So I went in with an open mind. It reminds me of other historic places like the Campbell House in Lexington, and I liked the vibe. We sat at the bar...we always opt for the bar! Menu was full of good looking things. We decided to share an appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes, and they were good. Really, really good. My friend had a barbecue platter, and I had Chicken Salad with fruit and a muffin. Everything was good. And I didn't think the prices were out of line at all. The bartender said she had worked there for 36 years. I love hearing that...it's a sign of good employer.
