We were visiting my mom, and she suggested breakfast at Sweetpea's. I ordered the Mexican Skillet and it was SO delicious. My husband had the chorizo benedict, and after I tasted the hollandaise sauce with his dish, I had to order a side of it for myself. My kids each had pancakes and bacon and they devoured them! The worst service I have ever experienced. I was warned that unless you are a local you may have a wait. After one hour and ten minutes not from being seated but from ordering we had enough. We still had not gotten our meal so we left. I have been told by several people now that they will not eat there anymore for that reason. We stopped in today on our way from Lake Tahoe to Sacramento, we saw the sign along the highway. We were very glad we stopped in, we were looking for a homey diner and we found one. Ordered the Ortega Turkey Sandwich and a BLT, sides were macaroni salad and potato salad. The service was very friendly (didn't get his name) he seemed to know everyone there. The food was outstanding, it was exactly what we were hungry for. Plenty of parking. Tons of menu options. One thing that stood out was that when our server was busy and we had to get back on the road, the cashier noticed we were done and brought us the check so we didn't have to wait and it seems like a no biggie but we had to get to the airport to catch a plane so it was a biggie for us and appreciated that they keep an eye out on each others tables. read more

We live in Auburn and had been to Sweetpea's once before and had an okay experience (3 stars), but our return visit on Valentine's Day this year will be our last. They were fairly busy at 11:30 a.m. when we arrived, but there were a couple tables open, so we waited by the sign that said, "Please Wait To Be Seated". After several minutes standing there, a server passing by told us to go ahead and find a seat so we did. We sat at a table without menus or any acknowledgement from the servers or busperson that passed by our table a few times as we sat. Just as we were about to get up and leave, one of the bus persons offered us coffee. Coffee was poured into cups already on the table and we requested waters. We both added creamer to our coffee and realized there were no spoons or any utensils, but figured we would ask when he returned with our waters and menus. Problem is, he never came back with our waters, so we sat for 5 or 6 minutes waiting for someone to pass by that we could ask for utensils. Finally, we asked, "Silverware?" to our server as he hurried past our table, then moments later he dropped off a couple utensil sets on our table, but didn't yet have time to take our order. After another wait of several more minutes, he returned to take our order with no comment or apology for the long wait. We ordered our meals and reminded him that we still needed waters. We waited and waited and waited. Again, we were about to our limit, over an hour since we arrived, and were about to leave, when finally the food arrived. The server forgot my wife's toast and asked her again what kind of toast she wanted, then brought it back in a few minutes, but she would have preferred to have it arrive with her meal. One more reminder that we needed water, but alas water was not in the cards and was never provided. My eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. My wife had an omelette that she said was okay, but sort of dry inside. We finished our meals and waited for the bill, and waited and waited. It had now been over an hour and a half since we arrived and we had reached our limit of waiting, so we walked up to the counter to request our bill. The woman that had told us to take a seat earlier, tracked down our bill and rang us up. For the first time in 10 years, we left zero tip. Final thoughts: My food was good, my wife's was not. Lack of acknowledgement at the front door for several minutes standing there by the "wait to be seated" sign, and once again at the table is inconsiderate. The servers whisked past our table with eyes straight ahead, avoiding eye contact which might commit them to actually acknowledge our presence. Service was painfully slow, poorly executed, and without any apology or concern for the lengthy delays and forgetfulness. I'm also not a big fan of the face down cups on the table that slide around on tables and then are flipped over and filled with coffee. It's sort of like kissing the table. I get that not everyone wants water, but we requested it several times and our server never provided it and never apologized for not providing it. I see lots of other reviews that say how great the food and service was at Sweatpea's, but that was not our experience. We will not be back. read more

Went today for breakfast and it was 30 minutes before we placed our offers. Waitress apologized for the delay and said she was rushing the order. We got our food about 25 minutes later with some things not brought until we once again asked. Crispy bacon was ordered and limp fatty bacon was on the plate. The waitress reached for a napkin and grabbed the bacon off the plate. Unbelievable!!! Brought the crispy bacon back 10 minutes later. The service was awful and the food was even worse. This restaurant is a health hazard. Not only was there absolutely NO COVID PRECAUTIONS taken at this restaurant, it seems to be a general health risk. The STAFF DO NOT WEAR MASKS, including the waitress that was serving us. She talked over our food and table without wearing a mask and put our safety at risk. I am a health care worker and I feel more safe working in a hospital than I do eating at this restaurant. The blatant disregard for their customer's health is absolutely appalling. The fruit that came with our meal was MOLDY, with visible mold on my child's grapes. Our waitress and all of the staff that we saw there did not wear masks and seemed to care very little about any of the customers safety when it comes to Covid. This restaurant should be shut down for a health violation due to their negligent disregard for the public and following any kind of health and safety, and covid guidelines. From reading other reviews, it looks like this restaurant just does not wear masks or take any Covid precautions to protect their customers. My family and I will definitely never be returning and I will be reporting this restaurant as well. Neatly situated right smack dab between two highway exits and only accessible via the service road, this Breakfast Heaven had a 30-minute wait for four that was actually more like 20 minutes. The eggs came out fabulous, pancakes sweet and buttery, hash browns fried to perfection. The service was snappy and the waitress happy. People love working here. What an omelette! Sweetpeas was very close to my hotel when I was visiting Auburn so I decided to check them out on my first day. They're located in a small shopping center, very close to interstate 80. The dining room is spacious, comfortable and very clean. There aren't any booths or a breakfast counter, but there are plenty of tables to choose from. The walls are covered with framed black and white photographs, little pieces of gold rush history & family documents. It was 6:15 AM, and they just opened their doors. The dining room was almost empty. I went in with my camera and notebook, hoping that this was a good place to start my project. I chose an isolated table in the corner, ordered my coffee and told the lady that I need a few minutes before I look at the menu. As soon as I started writing in my notebook, I was served with a mug filled with fresh coffee. I didn't get the famous acrobatic coffee performance, but my cup was refilled twice before I was even asked if I wanted to order food. This is something I really appreciated since I really preferred to have some time working on my project before I eat. I appreciate that I wasn't pressured into ordering as soon as I sat down, and wasn't bothered numerous times during the time I was having my coffee. Because of that, I was able to enjoy my coffee and savor the moment while getting some work done. I decided to have an omelette for breakfast. I'm usually not an omelette person, but everything looked so good in the menu, and I chose to order one of their most over-the-top omelettes of all times! I don't remember what it was called on the menu, but it was filled with ham, lots of bacon, avocado and cheese & it was huge! There were lots of ham cubes, with loads and loads of crispy bacon stuffed in a fluffy egg shell. The avocado was fresh, and not guacamole-ish! Just one mashed up fresh avocado with no seasoning. I loved that they didn't put any excess salt on the avocado, because everything was perfectly balanced with the saltiness of bacon. I ordered the roasted potatoes on the side and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My coffee was constantly refilled without even asking. The lady taking my order was very friendly, and made me feel like I'm at my friend's house and her grandmother is making me breakfast! Sweetpeas Has been serving breakfast in Auburn since 1985, and you can understand why the food is so delicious. This is a family owned business, and you can tell as soon as you enter the doors. The location is also very convenient, even if you're just passing by, and there is a lot of parking. Sweetpeas is definitely my first choice for breakfast in Auburn. read more

This is a popular place and one would expect a wait, however it took over 30 minutes after ordering to receive the food. Even had to take my tag to the register as my waitress had disappeared! (The two Hispanic waiters have been amazing in the past, but the female we got today seemed like she could care less!). Food was good, however service experience dampened the meal. This place did not disappoint. This was our second time here and it was just as good as the first time. First time we had steak and eggs. The steak is a filet that is not very big but actually is a perfect size to where you are not in a food coma. They marinade it in something that gives it a yummy flavor. The hash browns are PERFECT! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside but not mushy. The second time I had chorizo and eggs. This was so good. This was the real deal chorizo not the oily swimming in oil kind. I am now torn on what I would get again. Because we are fat a**es we decided we needed a side of bacon. It was thick, cooked nice and crispy but not too crispy. Really really good bacon. We stopped here on our way home from Sparks today. WHAT A TREAT! It's Nana's house with better food. Nana wasn't much of a cook, but the guys at Sweatpea's clearly know their way around the kitchen. The staff is very friendly and make you feel like one of the family. ALL of the other customers there were obviously regulars, but the staff made a point of treating each table as important guests.
