Called in to order takeout and they were helpful directing me to a decision. Pulled up and Kayla immediately knew who I was and brought out my order. (I appreciated her wearing a mask) She confirmed I had made an awesome choice by choosing the brisket nachos and that I would enjoy the smoked chicken wings as well. My baby brother is visiting and he loves chicken wings, as do I. We both agreed the the chicken wings were nicely smoked and seasoned. Few things are worse in the smoked world than eating smoked meat and you can taste the smoke all night long. As far as sauces, we had honey sriracha and Alabama on the side. The vinegar in the Alabama made it not my favorite, but the honey sriracha was good. I actually ate most of mine without sauce. The brisket nachos....Awesome! One of the things I enjoyed most about this place were the sides that you can really get other places like the tomato pie and corn pudding- both were very tasty. The staff is really friendly and our server was very attentive. This place is pretty darn big so I don't think you'll ever have to worry about waiting long for a table. A go to of ours when in the area visiting. We usually pick a stay within walking distance of this and a few other favorite spots of ours (like 83 Custom Coffee). Anyway - SOB's keeps it real. The staff is consistently friendly and fast - the food is the same. The wedge salad with salmon was impressive and the hubs loved the cowboy sandwich. The place is loud - so I wouldn't plan any intimate conversations while dining here. Had one questionable experience with the manager one night - not very friendly, but it was a crazy busy weekend so lets give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was overwhelmed. read more

Food is decent. Their nachos are great and a value for the amount you get. The other food I feel is a hit overpriced and your paying for location and atmosphere not quality barbecue. Service has always been good and it's a fun place to go and have some beers and spend time with friends but the food in my opinion is overpriced except the Nachos. read more

Sorry to say we gave SOB's another chance. One star because the wings were good. Disappointed with the rest of the experience. Our order was incorrect, the Bbq pork plate was dry and had incorrect sides, no sauces offered when delivered I had to fetch my own bbq sauce and never received the correct sides after requesting them. The burger was overcooked, dry, and wanted some ketchup or mayo but the condiment tray was dirty and disgusting!! No telling when it was last maintained, the mayo was almost empty had no lid and was upside down in the sun, both hot sauces were almost empty as well had no lids, ketchup was empty and salt and pepper had food dried on the shaker lids, filthy--just after opening. Really. Needless to say, service left a lot to be desired. Can't believe we wasted our money yet again!! Never again!! read more

First time at Sweet Old Bills. Had the pulled pork plate. My lunch companion had the reuben. Reuben was good. Her sweet potato fries were even better. My plate was a definite dud. Slaw had way too much vinegar. Black-eyes peas had the same vinegary taste. Worse black-eyed peas I've ever eaten. The Mac and cheese were okay. The main entree - the pulled pork was cold, and had hardly any flavor until I poured bbq sauce all over it. The portions were skimpy! Got there early for the lunch crowd, and got seated and waited on promptly. Waiter never came back until he was bringing our check. He didn't ask if everything was okay, or if we needed anything else. He was checking on people all around us, but didn't come back to us. So, lousy service with the blah, so-so food didn't make for an enjoyable meal. Decor and decoration don't mean a lot when the food and service is terrible. I understand places are short staffed, but it shouldn't have taken 25 minutes to get a to go order when I was standing by the hostess desk on a Saturday afternoon. This place is right next door to a Berry!! What more could you ask for but enjoy in a couple of beers with friends and then some good barbecue, right!? I was gonna order the 3 meat combo you know be a total pig. I instead ordered the 2 and it was a good amount of food. They were out of ribs which broke my heart but happens! I was told to get tomato pasta over the Mac and cheese for something new. And it was really good! The coolest part was they were almost closed and they still served me which always scores bonus points. The food was very good. The service was very good. Ever notice how we construct an image of what someone or some place looks like based on what they sound like or what their name is? And then when you finally see them in person, the image you built is not even close to the reality? This frequently happens with radio broadcasters and personalities. It recently happened with me and Sweet Old Bill's in High Point. I didn't check Yelp for pictures or anything else beyond the overall review average, and as I made my way toward High Point, I assembled an image of Sweet Old Bill's: small place, old white farmhouse look, tidy, country cute, run by an elderly widower named Bill, and staffed by sweet folk, many of whom are related to Bill. That I know of, I only got one thing correct: the building was white. But it all worked out well, because I was served a delectable lunch. Inside I found the place somewhat dim, modernly metallic industrial decor (complete with a splash of faux old fashioned wood), and a large bar area on one side and a large seating area on the other. My server was competent and polite, and my food was excellent. The Bacon Pimento burger was delicious. The patty was generous and flavorful. I ordered it medium but it was medium well, but I can forgive that. One thing I really liked was the bun--it held together masterfully where weaker buns would have disintegrated into a disastrous mess. This is not to say the bun was tough--it just steadfastly stayed intact. The fries were very good. The table next to me was ranting about the sweet potato fries--best they've ever had, but I can't say from personal experience. I just looked back on the burger joints I have 5 starred, and it's interesting. They were all 5 stars for different reasons. A lot of things come in to play--atmosphere, type of burger, burger accoutrements, service, accompaniments, price, etc. In other words, Boone Doggies, S & S, Johnson's Family Grill, Porterhouse Burger, Carolina Burger, and Sweet Old Bill's are great burger joints in the five star range. It was packed, appears to have some regulars at the bar, folk were hustling. I asked for my meats without sauce to really taste the flavor. I could get a hint from the ribs, the brisket not so much. Further, the brisket was not as warm as I would have liked for my tastes - this leads me to believe some subtle adjustments on the holding temperatures will help them out a bit. I finally got to try this tonight for take out, and I can say this is definitely the best value in High Point for feeding a hungry family. We ordered the pulled pork family pack. 2 pounds of really good pulled pork with plenty of bark, a giant tub of homemade Mac and cheese, huge box of really good, fresh tasting fries, and slaw for $27!!! Ohh, and I almost forgot. . . a massive helping of banana pudding came with it. I have three boys who can eat, and no one left the table hungry. For the quality of food, it's a shockingly good value. I also tried the BBQ wings. They were fantastic. Probably the best I've had in the area. Food was ready to go about three minutes before the time on my online order said it would be. Service was impeccable. I can't think of anything to complain about. I did kinda want to try their BBQ sauce, which wasn't included by default. Maybe next time. . . Waitress was at our table as much as you would expect and brought us drinks and refills quickly. All four plates were great. They offer a good selection of craft beer on draft and in bottles/cans as well as a full bar. There are a number of tv's to keep you entertained or to catch a ballgame. And finally, the menu features a variety of smoked meats including pork BBQ, Brisket, and chicken. Sweet Old Bill's is an upscale smokery with a great concept that is executed well. The menu features more than just the aforementioned meats. They offer some very interesting appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, and Southern inspired sides. I tried their Big Boy combo plate with the pulled pork and beef brisket. Two sides were included so I opted for two of my faves; potato salad and tomato pie. Everything was good, but at $16, the price was a little rich. The pulled pork was good but didn't measure up to many of the BBQ joints in the area. The brisket was pretty good. I tried one of my buddy's ribs and thought that was the best of the lot. I'll come back, not because of the food, but because SOB's is a pretty cool place to hang out with friends and hoist a few beers while enjoying some decent food. read more

We used to really enjoy eating at SOB's but this market I had a terrible meal. The Rueben sandwich was so burned, corn beef charred and the bread was also burned. I told the waitress I could not possibly eat this and sent it away. I did not ask for this to be removed from ticket, but expected this courtesy. First time in High point, and first time at SOB's. Overall it was pretty good. The menu looked great, lots to choose from depending on your mood and taste. I couldn't really decide so I ended up trying a couple of things. Parking was easy, plenty of it, and didn't have a problem finding a spot. Everyone working was in a mask and they separated the tables pretty well so I felt very comfortable eating inside. I got an order of the loaded nachos, in the app section, size small, and it was huge! It has everything and the kitchen sink on it! It was very tasty but it made the chips sog up wayyy too quickly. I feel like if they had a little fewer toppings, then it would help. I like to have some crunch and there wasn't much of that with this dish. The tomato basil was heaven! I loved it! It was very creamy and the croutons were crunchy. It didn't taste like just tomato soup from a can, you could tell its homemade. The hush puppies were mediocre. Not amazing but not bad. I'm not one for spice but I think it needed some sort of kick or more flavor? It was pretty bland. The service was great. We visited on Tuesday evening around 6:45ish. We were taken to a table quickly, our orders went in really fast. Overall, our server did an okay job (not superb nor bad). However the biggest problem was it took over 30 mins to get our food. The food was fine(we had a burger, pulled pork plate and a kids meal). While waiting, our server apologized for our food taking so long and she said the manager will do something to our bill for our waiting. When we got our check, no changes were made. Overall, the food was fine, atmospwas ok, and i hope this was an isolated incident but I don't think ill go back anytime soon. read more

I looked at photos of some of their dishes online and ordered a couple of small plates bc the photos looked good. One of the dishes, the brussel sprouts, looked very different from the photo. It had a bad tasting batter on it, so that was a surprise. If they removed the batter or found another batter, it would be really good. Also, update your photos to match the dish so as not to mislead the customer. Otherwise, it was good. read more
