Even it has the appearance of being a little touristy, out of all of the gelato places we tried throughout Rome this one was by far our favorite. We even came back again on our last night of being in Rome.

Medium cup of gelato with pistachio, hazelnut, Dubai chocolate covering, and chocolate drizzle

By far the BEST gelato store in Rome. We went to a few others while traveling the city but none compared to the quality and experience at Sweet Life. The owner and employees are not focused on just serving whatever you order. They take the time to ensure you are able to try what you want and help curate your order to maximize the taste. The best word I can use to describe the quality of service is passionate. They truly seemed to care about making customers happy with their orders. If you want a unique experience with high quality gelato and excellent service then do yourself a favor and go to Sweet Life.

Absolutely delicious! I was so sad it was closed the next day when we went back. 100% recommend coming here for gelato! Best we had in Rome.

Amarena (black cherry) and mandorla (almond) gelato

This is delicious gelato! So many amazing flavors. My favorite combo is the amarena (black cherry) and mandorla (almond). It comes with a cookie and they also offer chocolate (milk or dark) and panna (whipped cream).Sweet Life is in a great central location, and the owners are very warm and welcoming.

    Many, many options

Very large variety of flavors, and they let you sample them to make sure you'll be happy with your selections. The service was absolutely fantastic. We've been going to a different gelato shop until now. This is the ONE to go to!

    Friendly staff!

Very tasty! We were walking along and passed this unassuming Gelateria in Rome, not far from Saint Peter's. The server was pleasant and spoke English, if you needed it. The place was cramped, but clean. There were many choices. I had my favorite, Amarena. It was delicious!

Amazingly delicious Gelato. They give you a taste to get your final approval.

Phenomenal Gelato. Small place with extremely limited seating. Very much worth the trip. Note: They don't take American Express.

Stopped here for my first gelato in Italy! The owner was friendly and you could easily tell he was passionate about creating gelato with only the best possible ingredients. Everything looked AMAZING so it was hard to choose, but I went with extra dark chocolate and Nutella flavored gelato. Both flavors were absolutely wonderful. I will Be back!

    Just some of the flavors

Absolutely the best gelato I have ever had! The servings were generous and well priced and the flavors were spectacularly delicious (I tried mint chip, dark chocolate, dulce de leche, milk chocolate, lemon and coffee). If you visit Rome, do yourself a favor and buy gelato from The Sweet Life, you will not regret it (until you leave and go through gelato withdrawal!).

Mint and Lindt chocolate with white chocolate drizzle

This gelato is the best you'll ever find. No line, no wait, but the taste is just something to dream about. It's so creamy and delicious. All of the flavors are not brightly colored which means it has no chemicals. I don't think that there is any other place in Rome or near Rome that is as good as here. The prices are reasonable and nothing to complain about. The service is amazing and the woman that works there is very kind and patient. They are considerate, offer you a drizzle of chocolate, offer a wafer, and give you a large amount of ice cream in a small cone. I really don't think that there was any other place with gelato as perfect as this one. I got the mint and Lindt chocolate one. The ambiance is also very calming and amazing.

There are soo many great places to go for gelato in Rome Italy but Sweet Life is by far the best! From delicious gelato to heavenly pastries to unmatched customer service, this place was worth a visit. A friend and I were in town visiting and in need of charging our phones. We stumbled upon this Gelateria hoping they'd have an outlet to plug our phones in, and they did. The owner was so gracious, and friendly. He insisted we stay and charge our phones and he even gave us the WiFi password without us asking. Lol. We decided to try the gelato, a slice of chocolate cake, and a cannoli... I wish my stomach had been bigger. Everything was sooo good! It was fresh, rich in flavor, and the tasty. The shop was also very clean and cute. Definitely a place I'd go back to during my next visit to Rome.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

Tucked along the lively streets of Trastevere, this little spot delivers gelato with genuine craftsmanship and flavors that taste as authentic as the city around you. The first thing you notice is the freshness. Each flavor looks vibrant--not overly piled or artificially glossy--and you can tell everything is made with real ingredients. One spoonful confirms it: the gelato is creamy, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The fruit flavors burst with natural sweetness, especially the mango and strawberry, while the classics like pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate showcase that rich, deep, true-to-ingredient taste that only well-made gelato can achieve. Their specialty flavors are equally impressive--unique without feeling gimmicky--and everything is served at the perfect temperature so the texture stays silky, not icy. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the cones have that fresh baked aroma that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to offer suggestions, and patient even when you're debating between ten flavors that all look incredible. The atmosphere reflects Trastevere itself--relaxed, friendly, and full of character. Whether you're ending a meal, cooling off on a sunny Roman afternoon, or simply exploring one of the city's most spirited neighborhoods, GELATERIA alla SCALA is a sweet stop worth seeking out. A delicious reminder that some of Rome's best moments come in a cup--or a cone.

If you don't know what real gelato should look like check my photos. First it shouldn't be piled high into mountains. Secondly the colors should be natural. The banana and pistachio gelato in my photos are perfect representations. On to the tasting! My tour included one cone and I got two scoops of pistachio and licorice. We said our goodbyes to the tour and the gelato was so good I wanted more. We ended up getting an affogato and a few more scoops in a bowl the second time. This was very close to where Julius Caesar was assassinated so we walked over and checked it out. When done I couldn't resist and had to go back a third time as I really wanted to try the orange gelato. The owner laughed as he couldn't believe we were back again. The orange was so good! There was bits of orange skin and it tasted really fresh. When I'm back in Rome I will visit my new friend here at the Gelateria!
