Melon Granita
Kimberly J.

Right beside our hotel. Lots of gelato options, granita, crepes, etc. I wouldn't say this is my ultimate favorite place to get gelato in Italy, but it was incredibly convenient. The gelato was still tasty and the employees here are very sweet and helpful. The Mango gelato was my favorite, tasted just like Mango Lassi. Yum! Their granita was a cool and refreshing treat on a hot summers day. After a full day of sight seeing, it was nice to grab a granita before going back to the hotel. The melon and strawberry granita had real pieces of fruit mixed within, which was delicious. Their Nutella crepe was awesome. The crepe had a perfect consistency and was prepared fresh. Filled with a generous serving of Nutella and topped off with powdered sugar. Excellent! There is counter seating inside and a TV. It's nice and cool in here too.

2.5 Euros for a small cup (yogurt et miel)

Amazing gelato in the center of Roma! Super close to my hotel so I figured to swing by and start the day off with something sweet. I mean, who doesn't want dessert before any meal? I got the "yogurt et miel" (honey) - it was so delicate and devine! I'm planning to swing by another location and possibly get the same thing. It's nothing I've ever tried before and I almost hate the gelato back in the states since I've tried the gelatos here in Roma. The taste is sweet yet not overwhelming and it's exactly how it's described. I can't believe how amazing gelato is here, well duh...I am in Italy in case I forgot. Haha They also serve sweet crêpes but I don't go for ones with nutella. I like savory crêpes in Paris a bit more.

We were so lucky to stumble across this place walking along Via Nationale. Great location, great prices and above all - BEST GELATO I have had ever!! We tried several fruit flavors, but couldn't decide as they were all so Good. We settled for dark chocolate - Oh My GOD! Best dark chocolate Gelato I have had in my life. I would fly back for that. I had Gelato in Venice and Pisa, but this was far better. Didn't try their crepes, but the staff is nice and friendly. They do not frown if you want to taste several flavors. Moreover, they also have wifi and seating outside which comes in handy. They are doing everything right, their reviews speak for themselves. Rome has over 8000 restaurant and just being a Gelato place, they are ranked in top 25 - which is pretty amazing!

During our trip to Rome, we definitely needed to try the gelato. We ended up visiting this place 2-3 times during our visit. We chose this place based on tripadvisor recommendations and we were not disappointed. The place is very popular considering there is another gelato place practically across the street. They have many different flavors. They even have 3 soy/sugar free flavors: Chocolate, pistachio, and hazelnut. The flavors were delicious. This place makes their gelato in store and use natural flavors. So this is REAL gelato at its finest. They sell the gelato by cup side. Small medium, and large. The price of a small 3 scoop gelato is $2.50. The medium is $3.00. The large is $3.50. TIPS: There is no restroom here You should not pay more than $2.50 for a small, but filling cup of gelato. This is one of the few places that offers sugar free/soy gelato.

Reasonable prices and nice selection of ice cream. I had a medium cone which comes with 3 different scoops of icecream topped with whipped cream for 3 euros. I liked their Oreo cookies and cream flavor, as well as their pisachio and honey flavor. The tiramiso ice cream was a miss for me. Also, they would not accept the Yelp check-in offer.

This place has changed is name and is now called Gelateria. It is located right next to Hotel Artemide on Via Nazionale where we were staying during our visit to Rome. We stopped by here a couple times during the week and found it to be very good and inexpensive. We ordered gelato and crepes with Nutella which were both outstanding. We like this place and was very convenient to our location.

Found this place so randomly on Google but happened to love it. The flavours are strong and pure. I ordered pistachio, coffee and dark chocolate, all very good! It's only €2.5 for 3 flavours. Can't expect anything better :) The place doesn't look fancy at all but the gelato is definitely worth a try!

Came by on our way to the hotel from a long hot day spent walking around Colosseum and Roman Forum. Decided to cool down with some ice cream. Loads of flavours to choose from and decent prices. Loved the ice cream, very tasty and creamy. Also got a free cookie for checking in here

I have been in Europe for six weeks and have been massacring the gelato...this has got to be in the running for top gelato I have had. The flavors they offered were different and spectacular. I had the white chocolate and dulce de Leche and I'm determined to visit this place again before I leave Rome. They win!

Like most other comments, I have to agree this place is sooooo good. I had the dark chocolate and pistachio and my husband had the dark chocolate and egg cream. Delicious. The counter staff was friendly and fast, just want you want when you're craving gelato! Such a great selection too! Just go!!!

Three flavors with whipped cream. Very tasty!

As wonderful as its name! I went there twice during my three-day visit in Rome. All the six flavors I tried were excellent. I recommend you to combine creamy scoops with fruity ones. Pistachio is among the best!

Everything tastes super fresh and creamy, and the flavors feel really authentic without being overly sweet or artificial. What I liked most is how consistent it is--whether you go for classics like pistachio or something more indulgent, it always tastes rich and high quality. It's the kind of spot where you can tell they really care about what they're making. The vibe is simple and focused on the gelato itself, not anything flashy, which honestly fits perfectly for a place like this. Always worth stopping by if you're in Rome and want proper gelato.

And very likely using a warm process. Very clean, payment / ordering process is efficient. That's where I say everything is good. The gelato - really not for me. It's very very sweet for my tastes. Which might be fine as it's nothing I would crave to eat more than once in a while - and not more than a few spoonfuls at a time. Not to worry, that's all you're getting anyway as the scoopers seem trained to smooth on your gelato like a thin coat of spackle, without ever filling the hole. That's all. I have to try some more around Rome to see if I'm bringing my untrained perspectives into this forum. As they say.... When in Rome.....

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

But I stopped in my tracks because I saw a line wrapped up 50+ people deep, all waiting just to get inside and order. Now it's day two in Rome and I still hadn't had any gelato, even though I've walked past what feels like a hundred shops. So what would a fat man from Alabama do? Turn right back around, of course--because nothing says "this is probably good" like a crowd stacked up like cordwood waiting for ice cream. I finally make it up to the counter and the young guy looks at me and says in English, "What do you want?" Well... I can't pronounce half of what I'm looking at, so I just show him a picture of his own menu I had snapped a minute earlier. He smiles, reads it out loud, and then asks, "What size?" At that point my brain is a mess, so I mumble "medium" and point at the cup sitting by the register. One problem down. Then I move into the next line--about a dozen people ahead of me--and when it's finally my turn again, I just point at my receipt like, "It's on there somewhere, I think." I can't read Italian, so I'm fully operating on faith at this point. The guy looks up and says, louder this time: "What flavor?" Flavor? That was not the question I was prepared for. So I point back at the picture again and say, "Whatever that is... I want that one." He scoops it up, loads it into the cup, and sends me on my way. Now comes the real test--taste it--but there are people everywhere, so I grab a quick photo first, because priorities. First bite? Hallelujah. That was the moment. That gelato hit and I just kept walking down the sidewalk like a man who somehow figured out how to survive ordering ice cream in Italy. Seriously, it was excellent. And if I get turned around again like today, I already know where I'm going back.
