Because this gelato place as we were walking to the Vatican and decided to stop and get some thing to and refreshing. This gelato shop has a lot of good flavors to choose from with a cone or a cup. I prefer the cone and I watched the staff put three flavors on my little Clara. It was amazing what kind of magic they can do the flavors. The flavors are refreshing and taste exactly what they are being described as. I will definitely go back to this gelato shop again when I'm in town. I enjoyed this gelato immensely.

Very good gelato and a reasonable price. For a grande it was 5 Euro and it looks like there were 3 sizes above that but I didn't know how to say those in Italian. The guy offered free samples of gelato as I waited in line and each were really good. I liked the fruit flavors of this place.

You never forget your first! Lemongrass Gelato was the first gelateria we visited during our Italian trip in the summer of 2015 and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. We passed by their branch at Via Barletta 1 as we came out of the Ottaviano Metro station but it was here where we got our feet (or taste buds) wet. And as fate would have it, the Via Barletta location turned out to be the last one we went to on our last day in the Eternal City. Lemongrass Gelato would always be special because it marked where this whole gelato experience started and ended. To cut down on our travel cost, we had our mobile carrier's roaming feature turned off and we elected to use an offline map as our guide. A lot of places were bookmarked but Lemongrass Gelato was not one of them. As we strolled along Via Ottaviano, we felt this strong pull coming from this shop... It was definitely the gelato but the "Free Wi-Fi" sign made it so hard to resist that we decided to take a break before heading out to St. Peter's Square. Flavors were in Italian but they contained English translation. As a citrus person, the Ciccolato all'Arancia (Orange Chocolate) was a must-have. Pieces of sweet orange candy in every chomp of that rich milk chocolate gelato... Incredibelmente buono! We also had to try their rendition of the classic Cookies and Cream - Oreo. There must be something in the milk, cream, or sugar that they used because it had such a bolder flavor. Maybe I was just too thrilled to be having gelato this part of globe. Then again, the texture and composition were way different than some of the gelati we've had in the US and I'm not even comparing it with ice cream. It was smoother and had that elastic quality that allowed the server to sort of play with it as the gelato was served up with a spade. We got to sample their banner flavor Lemongrass (white chocolate, lemon cream, and praline), Cheesecake alla Fragolina di Bosco (you guessed it right - strawberry cheesecake), Fondente 70% (70% dark chocolate), and Bacio (think Nutella here). We held off getting more because I had Old Bridge Gelateria bookmarked in the offline map and it was something I wanted to check out en route to the Vatican Museums. Simply put, we had to save room for more dessert. Compared to ice cream, gelato is lower in fat. However, it is churned at a slower rate which means it has lesser air, making the product much denser. Unless you're accurately measuring your serving, you're probably not saving on the calories with gelato because of its density. For me, there's no such thing as a healthier option between gelato and ice cream - it's just a matter of which one will get you first. You only live once. Enjoy life. Don't choose. Eat both. And don't forget, frozen yogurt and frozen custard exist, too.

I followed the yelp reviews and was really pleasantly surprised and shocked on how good the gelato is from Lemongrass. With the non traditional gelato name, it didn't seem to be an authentic homemade spot ... well, I just learned you can't judge a gelato place by it's name or glass enclosure! This is the real deal ANNND right by the Vatican City for a reasonable price! Lemongrass has 2 spots ... we went to the gelato focused and espresso bar that is within sight of the Vatican city. The gelato display reminds you of the fake places that uses powder and dyes and piles up the gelato in the display but ... ignore the obvious error of my ways and just know that the ingredients are real, churned by the owners with their own special selection of ingredients from around Italy. We were slightly dying in the humidity and heat of Rome and every flavour is AMAAAAH-zing. Really. The owners were so friendly and generous in their offering of samples so we can pick our favourites to fill the cones or cups. I honestly wanted to bring a tub back to the hotel but ... i dont think it would survive the heat of the Vatican museum (let alone my eager fingers attempting to dive into this at every given moment). There is not much seating space here... so if you're coming here in the height of tourist season, expect to do a take away. As for the flavours, you honestly cannot go wrong with any of them... well balanced and tempered sweetness to allow each nut or fruit to burst through onto your tongue and possibly make your eye roll backwards. Ok maybe not that much... but at least put you in a chilled food coma of bliss. Strawberry - wonderful berry sweetness that has a bit of tartness that makes you know this isnt some jam or fake powder. The big chunks of bold red strawberries was so delicious. Pistachio - incredible flavourful and creamy... it has the perfect shade of light army green that makes you know that there is no fake colouring. I love how they told us they hand picked and crushed the pistachios themselves. Tiramisu - This was definitely the sweetest of the bunch with its bold espresso flavour intermixed with creamy sweetened milk and crushed lady fingers giving a wonderful textural crunch. Amarena Cherry - if you see this, just get it. I have no idea what is growing in the soil but I can only compare this to the best sweetest and boldest dark black cherries I've tried in Niagara region. Except the entire gelato tastes of the best cherry. I love how the cherries are big and juicy instead of icy. Lemongrass - Their namesake is not the herb/spice lemongrass but rather a wonderfully creamy lemon creme base with white chocolate pearls adding a nice sweet and creaminess to the lightly sour lemon. Honestly you cannot get better than this so close to the Vatican City. I was really impressed and found the service and quality just as good as the ones I got in the heart of Florence.

You want real gelato? Come here! It's not far from another place that has a line wrapped around the building (forgot the name), whereas here, there was hardly anyone in line. There were maybe two people in front of me, and that's it, so it was very fast. I ordered the pistachio and tiramisu gelato. It was creamy and didn't melt much, which is exactly what you would expect. I was able to taste each distinct flavor, which is important when eating gelato. The cost was about 5 euros. I was able to snag a table and ended up sharing with an Irish man; be aware there's only 3 tables for eating. We're lucky there are tables at all, as they aren't common at gelato places. I do wish gelato shops had some sort of cone holder so that you could set the cone down while putting your wallet away. I never saw any while in Italy. I was struggling to put in my bag, so the lady behind the counter helped by holding my cone. She spoke enough English to communicate, which was great. This is definitely better than a gelato shop I tried near Trevi Fountain. You're in a tourist area in both places, so it's hard to tell. But after eating much gelato in Italy and the USA, I can assure this place is legit!

This is good gelato! I had pistachio & hazelnut and they did not disappoint. A tour guide of ours said they always judge a gelatoteria by their pistachio & this one is creamy and flavorful with bits of nuts throughout.

Really delicious gelato--Rome has so many touristy/low-quality places, and Lemongrass was definitely not in that category. It was the best gelato we had in Rome. €4 gets you a medium (up to three flavors). The dark chocolate studded with chunks of candied orange peel, yogurt flavored gelato with honey, and cherry (big, chewy Luxardo-style cherries) were all delicious, and there were quite a few others I would have liked to try as well. There's free wifi (find the password on your receipt), and some seating in the back, or you can sit out at the little tables on the sidewalk and get in some people watching. Plus, it's air-conditioned! What more reason do you need to stop by in the summer?

    Damon S.

Very friendly service here. Big variety of gelato. The flavors were some of the best I've had in Rome. There is limited seating, but you can sit indoors or outdoors.

We really loved this gelato shop and came here often since it was close to the Metro. I especially recommend the pistachio.

My "medium" sized cone was a tad larger than a small but not American sized which I appreciated, it was just enough to fill a moderately hungry stomach, and gave me a taste of the gelato I'd been missing. Lovely little spot, stop in!

We saw a gentleman sitting outside, enjoying a gelato and it peaked our interest. The young lady working the establishment was not very friendly, but we weren't there to make friends. However, great customer service really does go a long way, especially when you're a tourist away from the comfort of home. I ordered a cone of the pistachio gelato and my best friend ordered a cone of the banana gelato. Gelato is not as sweet as ice cream so don't expect to be overwhelmed by this dessert. The pistachio gave a hint of the taste of pistachio, but could've used a little more pistachio nuts to really bring this scoop to life. I tried the banana and it was overwhelming with banana flavor... Real bananas by the way. You really have to be a banana lover to partake in this cone. I have had better gelato in the states, but wanted to try this regionally specific treat.
