We have bought several cakes over the years from Brittany at Sweet Cherry Bakery. She has worked miracles in the past for us, but none more so than this today. Our son's birthday party was today and 48 hours ago, we had no cake and were snowed in and couldn't get any response from other bakeries all week. Brittany not only responds but is able to do two cakes and cupcakes and do so with less than 48 hours notice. She was also able to do the customizations I wanted and made the whole process painless. Her cakes always taste amazing and are so light. They don't leave you feeling like you need an immediate nap like other rich cakes. Well it would be zero if possible. CLEARLY had everything set up ahead, including the full payment and the date of the party IN PLAIN VIEW the entire time and in writing. Day of event and waiting for delivery, nothing, call and email and nothing, then suddenly an email stating she had the date wrong and could deliver the next day, after the party. Lack of communication. I used Sweet Cherry Bakery for my daughters 1st birthday cupcakes because she offers vegan options and my daughter has an egg allergy. Communication was a challenge and I almost thought she wasn't going to follow through. To my surprise, she did and they were delicious, but design was a bit flimsy. I decided to try again for the next year's birthday since I still needed vegan (and I couldn't find many custom vegan options around) but this time was even more challenging. Lots of email exchange, but you can't book through email so I would call with no response or call back. She even responded via email saying she would call on X day... never did. I tried a few times, no luck. Overall communication is terrible which is stressful when you are trying to plan for a party. I would have appreciated a call back even if it was to say you are too busy that week and cannot accommodate instead of leaving someone hanging. Arrived at 1215 for an after 12 pick up of a graduation cake for my daughter's party. Owner greeted me and said she wasn't quite finished could I come back in 25 minutes. Came back and she said "I thought you were someone else I don't have your order". Had emailed and received a quote but apparently didn't notice in the signature that you had to pay ahead to confirm the order. This was under her name, address, phone in her email signature. I placed an order for a no sugar added lemon cake with lemon filling for Christmas. It was the worst cake I ever tasted and also my family members. The icing tasted like you were eating lard/Crisco the cake was so eggy tasting and dense/dry and there was no lemon filling. Needless to say no one was able to eat it and $35 dollars was thrown in the garbage. Stay away. Our first experience with Sweet cherry bakery was hands down awful. Got a 3 tiered small cake,of $120 and a smash cake. First, the cakes are made out of a home.(didn't know that at ordering). We got to peep at the cake,she had it already in a box. She was supposed to use icing at the bottom and she choose to use fondant (uggh!) The gold middle piece, uneven & icing didn't cover all of cake, the top number 12 was not centered. I Noticed this when we got home opened the cake,didn't even move it from the box, immediately sent several picture text called Brittany (the owner) to let her know the cake is crookedly done and falling apart at the bottom. The fondant was grossly thick! Now upset that the "professional" $120 cake is falling apart! She told me to drive it back,she will not do a complete refund.Keep in mind this cake was for our daughters 12th bday within 2 hours.What makes me really upset is we had a dairy allergy with a child so part cake was vegan.Very aware of this, She told me to go out to get another cake and bring her back the cake next time we would be that way. You caint just get a "vegan"cake. So you can imagine now, having "lifetime" pictures that have a "shitty" looking cake in them. Daughter and us were so embarrassed by this cake. The taste: Not good. Very blah! Cake was dry,it was very chewy..needing water to wash it down.Wonder why she used so many straws in the cake?? That was weird to cut around about 16 straws. I would like to start by saying that the cake I paid $105 PLUS $15 for delivery is the WORSE cake I've ever had in my whole life. I hate to be dramatic but it was, not only was it hard, dry, with no flavor whatsoever but the layer of icing was two times bigger than the layer of cake. On their website it states that if you are not happy with your cake to return the rest of the uneaten cake within 48 hrs. I contacted Brittany to let her know I was beyond unhappy with the cake and that I would like to drop off the ENTIRE cake because none of my guests ate it, and the guests that tried it were throwing it away. I ended up running to Walmart to buy a backup cake which my guests ate within minutes. When I called no one answered so I left a voicemail asking for Brittney to return my call(haven't gotten a call yet). I also emailed her and got a response within an hour or two. I explained to her my issue with the cake and that I would be more them happy to drive to the bakery to drop off the rest of the uneaten cake that day. It's about a 30 minute drive that I was more than willing to make. She replied to me by apologizing for me being unhappy with the cake, but never mentioned when I could drop it off. So I emailed her again asking when I could drop it off, she replied by stating that since it was a holiday they were closed and that they didn't offer any refunds, which was stated on their website and that Walmart's cake would never compare to theirs being that theirs are made from scratch not premade cake mix. She also said that it just seemed I didn't like their cakes being she had spoken to other customers from that same weekend whose cakes were made with the same batter and all were 100% satisfied. Not once did I request a refund, I emailed her to let her know I was not happy with the cake and wanted to return it within the 48 hours like it states on her website. Haven't heard back from her yet, so I decided to just throw out the cake, I've had it sitting in my kitchen for 3 days now. I live in Wake Forest and had placed an order at a WF bakery for my gluten-free wife's birthday cake. I called the the day before to confirm that our cake was GF and ask about a pick-up time. I was told that they "don't do gluten-free". I now have a cake emergency. After calling several bakeries that were closer to me and leaving messages, I found Sweet Cherry and called. A very professional voice listened to my circumstances and said that she would be happy to help. Im sure that they prefer to have more notice, but Sweet Cherry delivered in 24 hours a gluten-free, red velvet cake. It was beautiful. It was also moist and delicious. According to my 12 yr old daughter, "the best cake ever!". I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Everyone at our gathering was complimentary. Thank you Sweet Cherry. You saved me at least a week in the dog house and ensured that my wife could eat cake on her birthday. You'll be hearing from me for both daughter's birthdays. I ordered a cake for 25 people plus a smash cake two weeks before the date I needed it. Early Friday morning I got an email saying she had a medical emergency in the family but would still make my cake they would just need to deliver it because the actual bakery would be closed for walk ins. I was originally picking up the cake at 10 am Saturday morning. My party was Saturday at 4. I said that was fine and left my cell number if there was trouble. At 12:30 on Saturday I happened to check my email and there was an email that was sent at 10:30 in the morning saying her family member took a turn for the worse and she couldn't do my cake at all. Let me preface this by saying I am incredibly sorry there was a health emergency but my cake would've been most likely baked on Friday for it to be delivered on Saturday so she knew it wouldn't be ready way before she emailed me. Not to mention not everyone regularly checks emails so if I would've received a phone call that morning I would've had way more time to deal with the lack of cake and most importantly my smash cake. The cake should've been cancelled on Friday morning in the first place but Friday evening would've also been a good time to let me know. Super unprofessional way to handle this. When we called one person they said they would send us a new one and when we didn't receive it we were promised a refund. This is after they ignored our phone calls for days. I placed a cake order with you to be delivered on 3/9/13 for my daughter's 1st birthday party. I found the company on an internet search bcecause I live out of town. On the morning of my daughter's party, I received a call at 10 am stating that the delivery driver was not coming in and could I meet them. I was in Roxboro at the time of the call, there was no way I could have driven to Raleigh from Roxboro, got ready and set up for my daughter's party by the time it was supposed to start. I was able to get my friend who lives in Durham to meet someone from the company. She was told that the person would be there at 12:30 and they were still not there by 1pm. No one was answering her call and I even called and sent a text message with no response. I looked on the company Facebook page and found another number. The person I spoke to stated someone was still on the way. By the time my friend dropped the cake off, went home and got herself and her infant ready, they had missed over the half of the party. When we opened the box, the cake had tilted over and some parts were smashed. I couldn't even set the cake out for display at her party. We took it to the back and cup it up so no would see it. The cupcakes were also dry. Also the top of the cake was supposed to be her smash cake as discussed in previous emails but it was made of rice krispies. We had to use a cupcake as her smash cake. I was under the impression that if i could not get someone to meet them, I would not have been able to get my cake at all. It looked like it had been decorated by a toddler and it tasted even worse - dry and flavorless. Food Lion makes better cakes and charges 1/4 of the price.
