I really give it to their Customer service! It is awesome! The waitress was extremely kind. She was the only one working outside the kitchen but surprisingly she was quick and still able to manage all the others. The food is cooked very well with fine fresh spices and not too spicy as requested. Thai food are delicious when spicy but those who can't take spicy should always request to make it not spicy or less spicy so that you can at least still enjoy the food rather than torturing yourself trying to gulp it down your throat. Price is reasonable. The restaurant isn't too big, but comfortable enough for a party of 6 or less. One dish that stood out to me most was their Pad Thai. As usual they are dry but Sweet Basil cooks it with sauce and it's tasty. Definitely recommend the mussels, they used raw fresh spices in it so after your done eating the mussels, don't forget to drink the soup! We ordered most of the appetizers to try since it's a bit different on other Thai menu. I rarely come to this location because I usually try something out of my local area but it was suggested. I end up eating here more often than i should. But i work just down the block from here and when you're sitting there trying to figure out what to eat for lunch this place always seems to come to mind. they have a great lunch special that comes with salad and spring roll. Their selection is pretty good too. and the young lady that works there is always very friendly and makes sure that your cup of water is never empty. read more

Since it's walking distance from work, me and co-worker when for lunch. Ordered Pad Kee Iew with chicken. Slightly spicy, cardboard like chicken slices, you can taste the burned noodle. $6 is not bad to get by. My co-worker had red curry, she said it's spicy, I think it's acceptable spicy, but it's more spicy then the Pad Ke Iew. The red curry is also $6. Both lunch special comes with salad with bean sprout & peanut dressing. Stopped in on a Monday at 6:45pm before catching a train at Woodside station. Most tables open but soon got busier. Started with Chicken Tom Kah soup, which was hot (temperature) and delicious. Very flavorful and strangely rich tasting, even for a soup made with coconut milk. Had main course of Pork Pad Khing (ginger sauce) with some mixed vegetables added (for a $2 charge-worth it!). My boyfriend and I go to Sweet Basil every couple of weeks. It's one of our favorite Thai restaurants in the city. The food is delicious and inexpensive. The staff is sweet and accommodating. The drunken noodles are the best we've ever had. Though Sripraphai is the more well-known restaurant, the service is terrible. We've always found Sweet Basil to be more personable. And their drunken noodles put Sripraphai's to shame. read more

I'm always comparing it to other Thai restaurants in other parts of the City, and I feel confident that we have the best right here in Woodside. The quality is consistent, the regular waitress is friendly and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. If you're going, try the Drunken Noodle, the Pad King Soy (I always choose beef with that--yum!), and/or one of the curries (but beware, when they notify you that the curries are spicy-hot they aren't kidding!). Very small and intimate Thai restaurant. We walked in and was seated by the waiter who had had on her coat we noticed it was cold as we sat down and we looked around everyone still had their coats on. We ordered appetizers which came out relatively quickly. As we waited for our food we noticed a horrible smell which lingered throughout the remainder of our stay. Immediately I was turned off and wanted to leave. The food was subpar Thai cuisine the chicken tasted undercooked (chicken fried rice and red curry) the food was not flavorful at all. My pad Thai was disappointing.. I asked for plain pad Thai and he told me only vegetable or tofu if I didn't want meat. So I had to decide on vegetable. When the food came it was 70% vegetables. I've have plenty pad Thai from other places and they didn't taste as sweet as this one. Didn't enjoy.. The waiter was nice but unfortunately I won't be returning. read more

We found this cute little cozy spot right near the LIRR 61st street station. The food was very flavorful. Clean, inviting little place. Service is friendly and prompt. I had the shrimp rolls and the steamed mussels, both appetizer items. I was completely blown away by the steamed mussels! They came in a metal pot in a delicious broth with onlons, peppers, chiles, peppercorns and garlic - divine. And they didn't skimp on the mussels, either. Large and tender, as they should be. My wife had the Dancing Noodles and loved the flavor and texture. The Thai iced coffee is a pleasant surprise, full flavoed and not overly sweet. Try it, you'll like it! read more

I ordered in and was very pleased with the quality of the food. I usually feel iffy about pad thai and I know that should be easy enough, but I've had pad thai that definitely didn't taste right. On the other hand, the pad thai from this joint is stellar: just the right amount of crunch from the peanuts and just the right amount of sweetness from that teriyaki glaze. Excellent Thai! I love me some thai and I am always on the search for new places. I was at my friends house and we decided to order from sweet basil. I am always skeptical with new thai places but I was beyond satisfied. We had fried calamari which was delicious and the sauce was perfect. Used to frequent this spot pre-pandemic and went there today for pickup. They had me wait outside after ordering in spite of the fact that restaurant was empty which I somewhat understood given the times. However while I was waiting an Asian customer walked up not even knowing where the door was so after I directed her to the door she was not only able to go up to the front counter, which take out order folks aren't allowed to, and hang out there for the entire time that my meal was being prepared...so I guess because I'm not Asian I was disqualified from remaining inside. To add insult to injury the person who took my money did not seem as if she appreciated my business and as further insult upon delivering the meal to me outside she again did not seem appreciative or grateful for my business. I guess spending almost $20 for a single lunch is not worth being appreciative. I imagine the original owners who were so nice and appreciative have moved on and these are new owners.....won't be going back to this crappy hole in the wall. read more

Boring Thai food. How can Thai food be boring? I don't know, but this place has has got that down to an art. Not once have I ordered a dish here and thought, "I feel satisfied." No, each time, my stomach would send a message to my brain saying, "Well, that was anti-climatic." Eating the food here is like eating... cardboard. Fills you up, but that's all it does. Doesn't feel good. You feel depressed. You just wasted one of your "oh my god, I'm so hungry, this food is going to be SO good," moments on boring food, know what I mean? A moment you'll never get back. Despite this, I've tried giving Sweet Basil a chance on four different occasions. Why do I keep trying? Maybe the convenient location across from the 7... but I promised after writing this review, never again. I've tried the pad kee mao, some vegetable dish, pineapple fried rice, their spring rolls, and a different variety of curries. I can say that the only decent dish was the rolls. One time, I ordered pad kee Mao and their rolls for delivery. I left the leftovers in the fridge as I couldn't bring myself to finish the food. A few days later, the sauce had eaten through the foil trays that the food had come in. That, my friend, was my last affair with Sweet Basil. Sweet Basil itself is a cute restaurant and the wooden benches against the wall are lined with comfy pillows. The waitresses are also polite and attentive, but the food is a deal breaker for me. I live almost directly in between Sweet Basil and Shripaipa (I can't spell it sorry I usually just call it Pow Pow Pow), I would be willing to drown myself in a bathtub if I was guaranteed a revival to eat the drunken noodles out of Sweet Basil. I been walking by this place for years tell today I chose to go in. It's not that big it was pretty empty When we went in. The service was good very attentive, but I can't say the same for the food. My girlfriend ordered green curry and I got the soft shell crab the garlic pepper and fried squid. The squid came in first ( good serving for only one person) the sauce looked like some one had spit in it. I'm not a Doctor but I could tell the person was well hydrated from spit sauce. The way they had the fried Squid was like they just threw it on the plate and was sent to serve, The way it looked... it tasted like Rubber. Our food came in it looked very exquisite I thought damn and I thought the food was going to be Bad. No I wasn't wrong it gets worse the crabs where not fresh at all the sauce was WTF I never had F**k ed up thai food.The green curry wasn't that great, out of 5 i would say it was a 2.
