I used to really love this place, ice cream is made fresh which is awesome! They used to have tons of different flavors, but now it just seems like they only have basic ones (cookie dough, chocolate chip, oreo). They even got rid of rocky road which I thought was a classic! I saw they had some weird flavors like banana, i'm not really sure who would want that. The inside is pretty small, maybe 3 tables to sit down. Parking is limited, though covered which is great for a hot summer day. This is a good place to go if you are by the beach and want to stop in quick. If you are looking for something exotic maybe try somewhere else. read more

Bless me father for I have binged, It's been one year since my last review. Sweet Ashley's remains the top ice cream shop in the area. Rumor is swirling around among all of us middle aged fat people that the owner is thinking about a new flavor - a breakfast ice cream with bacon, french toast and syrup. On behalf of all of us guys with man boobs I say "hurry the hell up!". There are two kinds of people - those who talk and those who do - we need doers. Let's lock that owner in the basement, as I've previously suggested, and get him working on this ASAP. Furthermore, I suggest that the owner consider freezing himself (like Walt Disney did or even something like Han Solo did in Empire Strikes Back) - so that future generations can not miss out on any of this. I'd say freeze the owner in the winter of 2020 and then unthaw him in the year 2120. His ice cream is just that good. read more

Growing up in Norwalk, it was always a treat to go here. Now living in Seymour, it still is. All the flavors are amazing. As is the service. Go early though. At times a lot of the favorite flavors run out. They also have to go pints and quarts, as well as ice cream cakes. And I'm sure you can call ahead with any requests. I love small local businesses like Ashley's. The owner here has to be one of the nicest people I've met. I was on a bike ride up near Norwalk and he came out to ask me if I was lost and needed directions, or just wanted to fill up my water bottle. I came back by after my ride and he let me use the restroom in back to wash up. The ice creams here are all fresh and homemade, plenty of flavors to choose from and they have soft-serve frozen yogurt, too. They've been around for 18 years. I am so angry. So very angry. Would You like to know why I am angry? I will tell you why. Because I have lived in Norwalk, exactly 1.5 miles from Sweet Ashley's for 11 YEARS and have never been here until yesterday!!!! I have been wasting my ice cream dollars. I have been wasting my ice cream calories. This place is SOOOOOoOOOOoOoo much better than any ice cream place in Norwalk. First off, it's cute inside. Very small. Second, the service is great. Third, the ice cream is really REALLY good!!! Try the Bananatella! Or the espresso chip! I am going to splurge on the chocolate crunchie coated waffle cone next time. Love that this is a family business and would continue to support them over a chain. Staff was nice and working hard managing lines. I ordered the mint chocolate chip, which is usually a safe choice. Unfortunately, this mint-chip had a strong artificial spearmint taste that was NOT pleasing. Thankfully I was feeling reckless that night and had ordered it one of those giant sprinkle cones, which helped dull the artificial taste. My friend's coconut icecream was yummy. Homemade ice cream. This is quite possibly the best ice cream I've ever eaten, and I'm an ice cream connoisseur. It's outrageously fresh. It's made in small batches with good quality ingredients. Forget Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerrys, Haagen Dazs, Sweet Ashley's is the BEST. Amazing flavors: swamp, cookie monster, mint chip. Little in terms of decor, but there are a few seats both inside and outside so you can stay and enjoy this delicious treat. They'll pack you a fresh pint, too, which is delightful. The staff is so cheery and friendly and sweet it's almost too much. They happily take credit cards, too. Parking outside on the street or across the street in the church lot. Have never had their full blast sundae but I have had some sinfully delicious. It amazes me how much an opinion can change over a year. Last summer, Sweet Ashley's to me, was just ice cream; it was a place to eat it, the best in Norwalk, though that wasn't saying much. Something happened this summer. I came back, as I do every year for as long as I've been capable of eating ice cream, and I realized how delicious the bases really were. What I mean, is that good ice cream is dictated by a good base, e.g. vanilla, chocolate, coffee, etc. If that base isn't good, no matter what they mix in the ice cream, won't enhance it enough to be good. This has set Sweet Ashley's apart from the other places for ice cream. I won't even mention that place with 31 flavors; their ice cream is crap, mass produced. It is like a Taco Bell to our Rincon Taqueria. There is no comparison. The Sundae's at Sweet Ashley's are nostalgic to me, and their variety of flavors continues to excite. They continue to make their best-sellers, but cycle other amazing flavors in and out. I only wish there was some way to request a flavor remain! Enjoy it, the season is almost over! read more
