This spot could not be cuter. In an iconic location right off the beach and a bigger menu than you'd expect. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful, I really appreciated them! I would say the highlight here is the smoothie menu. You can turn any of them into a bowl and add in a variety of extras to make it your own. The smoothie bowls are enormous and come with a ton of granola, a whole banana and all the other fruit and toppings. Been a long time lover of Swami's and I specifically love this location because there's so much beautiful seating outdoors. I ordered the tuna sandwich this time off their lunch menu and the very berry smoothie. I wanted something lighter and the sandwich was perfect and felt really healthy and nutritious. The smoothie was also so refreshing, I love that they don't add any extra sweeteners in theirs. Service was pretty quick, food came out almost immediately but the smoothie took a bit longer. Out of all the swami's cafes, this one is my favorite! I believe it is the original (right across from swamis beach). Feels like a little surf shack. To round out our weekend escapade in Encinitas, we went to Swami's for Sunday breakfast. Another fantastic local spot serving up hearty breakfast on a beautiful 101 Freeway stretch! The building looks like an old surf shack, but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Also a couple of gender neutral restrooms that were clean and spacious. Menu looks really similar to Honey's down the street. Lots of hot and cold options, and also a complimentary endless coffee bar! I've been coming to Swami's for about two decades since I was in high school and it's always consistently really good. It's right on beautiful PCH right across from the self-realization center and just above the ocean cliffs. The location truly is one of my favorite parts of coming here. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you so it's not a traditional full service breakfast restaurant but that just means the tables turn quicker and the wait times are never too long. It does get especially crowded on summer days, especially when the beach is popular so that something to be aware of. They have a small parking lot next-door, but there is also free street and neighborhood parking close by. For this visit, I chose the El Paso Benedict and really liked it. It's basically traditional a Benedict, but with chorizo and avocado, which is a great combination for me. One of the things I also love about this place is that you choose what sort of coffee you want from about 10 different options. I chose three different ones while I was there because it is self-serve I was able to make it just how I like. First one was during breakfast and ordered a dish without cheese and it arrived covered in dairy. They apologized, but it was particularly agonizing due to how long the wait was to order and receive the food in the first place only to have to wait even longer for them to remake the dish. The food was delicious when made the way I ordered it, but probably would have enjoyed anything since I was starving. A year went by and decided to give Swami's another try by ordering the Hormone Free ABC burger with no cheese or mayo. Surprise! I get a burger with no A or B either! They did a good job with no cheese or mayo, but why pay extra for no avocado or bacon? I could have ordered a cheeseburger with no cheese and saved $2. The food is good, but if you need to make any modifications know that they will get it wrong. read more

In Encinitas yesterday (we live in SD) and stopped for lunch. Service very fast and nice atmosphere but not pleased with club sandwich. Big portion but no condiments on sandwich. Most Clubs have mayo and maybe some mustard. This had zero. Very dry. Too busy a line to ask for mayo. Also so tall couldn't put your mouth around it!! Our food and drinks always come out quickly after ordering, no matter how busy they are. I don't order the same thing everytime but anything off their menu is so worthwhile. My favorite typical order is their açaí bowl. Their açaí bowls started my love of açaí. Their pitaya bowls are also just as good. Their service is fantastic and consistent too. Dropped in yesterday at 1:30PM for lunch with visiting relatives, thinking we would miss the crowds...mission accomplished, BUT, everything went south from there As an O'side resident, we usually go to the Swami's there & typically have a GREAT meal (a rare treat for me is their burger which I've been telling people for years is one of the BEST you can enjoy). Sadly on this visit, I ordered the BLTA with "potatoes" (exactly how it was described) as a no charge "side" (I had originally opted for the fruit). Unfortunately, the other 3 in our party followed my lead & opted for the "potatoes" also. (Spoiler alert: we wrongly assumed this meant French fries). After a reasonable wait (10-15 minutes) for the food, our orders arrived. Without question, my BLTA was THE worst mess I've ever received: Bone dry, and surprisingly under-toasted (actually it was almost rubbery) sourdough bread, 3 generous slices of what appeared to be "thick" bacon, but again they were NOT crispy, almost chewy, AND all three pieces were stacked & stuck together in the middle of the bread, The only appetizing part of the sandwich was the ripe, thick tomato, but the wilted & already turning brown lettuce, & the suspicious (browning) avocado, all added up to the worst excuse of a BLTA I've ever experienced. BUT, the "crowning" achievement topping off this mess was the "potatoes": they started out as random sized chunks which had been fried, to which some "red" seasoning and/or spices (bell peppers?) or tomatoes had been added. As served, they were soggy, tasteless, cold and although I would say were not "old" or bad, I point to them as the source of my near food poisoning upset stomach I experienced later in the day & into the night. The added "enjoyment" of our visit before leaving was a quick trip to the "restrooms" on the way out...all 4 of us were treated to THE worst smell, which fortunately for other patrons are (for the most part) shielded from because you have to go thru 2 sets of doors to get to the bathroom. In summary, we will NEVER go back to this "hallmark" (original location), and hope management strives for MAJOR improvements in what should be an otherwise historic visit to a beachside classic...good luck, but we'll stick with O'side for now. read more

The line went quick for ordering. We sat down on the patio and ok ... THE BIRDS. If you are at all scared of birds do not go here. They are not afraid, low flying past our faces and do not fly away when swatted at. Also, bees. Lots of bees despite the clean table. I ordered the shakshuka for like 15$. I tipped thinking they're a nice crew. It def was not shakshuka. It was two poached eggs over crushed tomatoes and a spoon full of some kind of creamy cheese that they said was feta. Didn't taste like feta. The 'sourdough bread' was suuuuper toasty hard I could have broken a tooth. The positives were that the staff didn't rush us out. My friend and I were enjoying time together. Food came out really fast under 5 minutes despite the amount of people waiting. I was shocked. But also maybe it was hastily prepared. Came here for a late lunch with my family on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the Tropical Salmon Salad, a BLT, and grilled cheese. Food came out relatively quickly, but quality was mediocre at best. There were a few yellow spinach leaves in the salad and I could be wrong but the salmon might've been frozen. Fruit flies were circling our table while we were eating, which was annoying. But the worse thing that might've turned me off this place for good is the state of the place--cobwebs that looked like they've been there for sometime, dust on every surface (sure, they're on the PCH, but still), and a combination of fresh and caked on bird poop on every single chair. There was a random used plate right next to our table--which was the least dirty one we could find. While we were eating, birds were flying over our heads and one had the audacity to poop right next to the ledge where our table was. If you're into this kind of vibe, by all means check it out for yourself. Otherwise, I can't recommend this place. read more

Sooo! We had a very disappointing meal today at a stalwart of many years in North San Diego. I almost regret giving such a high-prasing assessment of a meal at the Oceanside branch, several years ago. What happened to the bright and flavorable offerings many months ago? What happened to the well crafted menu with fresh and satisfying concoctions? Seems like the concept has gotten stale and tired. I was looking forward to a seared Ahi wrap with some exciting flavors and complementing accompaniments. Instead I got over-cooked, to the extreme, chewy protein which has no resemblance to a fish that may have been swimming recently, only a few feet away. The saucing was dark and dreary, mixed with wilting greens and a soggy, thin, and tastless tortilla. The breakfast potato sides were unexciting and uninspiring. My wife's burrito was equally forgettable. I'm not usually a complainer about food, but this meal was certainly not worth the stop. I'm not sure we will ever return to any of the locations - time to try something new. read more

This was our first time at this location (keep In mind we've been to several other locations: Carlsbad, Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, to name a few) and this place was THE WORST, I actually can't believe we paid to eat such mid food , first off, they don't have any fries (which is the least of their worries at this point) but seriously no water or drinks during our entire meal was downright ridiculous, but save no grace for the food which was cold, lacking entirely in flavor, and mediocre at best, something akin to what I would throw together in my kitchen as a last resort of starvation. Save yourself !! Go to litterally any other swamis, this place does not deserve to share the same name with the other locations. Do better. I'm begging. read more

Swami's13? I've been going to Swami's in Encinitas for decades, now and of all the locations it has always been my favorite because of the great outdoor seating and beach vibe. The service is always nice and friendly The food was a little off today and that kind of goes for the experience. The graffiti all over the walls was always part of the esthetic even if I didn't always agree politically with some of it. I don't know if it's a change of ownership, but the new name "Swami's 13" in Old English font and the amount of ultra right wing MAGA graffiti all over the place really throws off the surfer vibe it used to exude. I don't know what is going on there but a place called Swami's shouldn't feel like biker bar (nothing against biker bars) I'm thinking I may just start hitting the Carlsbad location. read more

I love a good hole in the wall with a shabby sheik aesthetic, but this place is absolutely filthy. - The fans are covered in dirt and dust, with congealed pieces hanging off of them as they spin. - Walls are filthy, covered in dirt, spiderwebs, and dying foliage. A lot of the wood looks like it is rotting. - Birds have infested this place. I literally had one poop on our table while eating. There are lots of hooks and planter hangers everywhere with no plants. Birds use these to sit above you and watch for an opportunity to grab some food...or poop on your table. They are also using the AC unit condensation drain as a make-shift birdbath. It was hard to find one seat without tons of bird poop on it, so you are literally sitting in it while you eat. I had trouble finding a health rating on the windows but wouldn't be surprised if it's a "C." Perhaps the kitchen is cleaner. Unfortunately I can't give it higher marks because of this, but I wanted to also highlight that the customer service was great. People are friendly, kind, and attentive.
