Usually a good experience, although I have noticed that the quality of the hot food bar has declined recently. I'm writing because I recently spoke with the manager, Alise, regarding an experience I had with an employee (the girl with the nose ring) at the self-checkout. I asked the employee for assistance, and unfortunately, her response came across as irritated and uninterested in helping, even though I was simply asking for assistance. I did speak with Alise about the situation, but I felt it was important enough to bring it to the attention of someone higher up as well. Customer service and a willingness to calmly assist customers are important, and I hope this feedback can be addressed appropriately. I've been shopping here for the past 4+ years. The meat department has the greatest selection of quality meats and the customer service there is absolutely fantastic. Ricardo (Ricky) has always recommended certain cuts and has helped me expand my horizon. The beef is Wagyu as well. The service deli and bakery offers great options including gluten free. This is an amazing supermarket with everything perfectly put the salads look like perfection on stage. I stopped the other day to get some snacks and flowers and found everything super expensive, so I guess this is mostly for the upscale clientele of Encinitas. You can tell they care about how the store and everything in there looks like. I was very impressed, except that for the flowers there was a sign that indicated that any bouquet you would buy you get a special wrapping. I wanted to get flowers for my own birthday and ended up asking for the wrapping materials to do it myself at home as I was told the person in charge was already gone home. This store is always a hit or miss in the customer service department. There was one time when I went to fill up my gallon jugs and an employee literally laughed at me and walked by. When I approached the water station it was closed but rather then kindly let me know, you just laugh?! Like seriously?! I get that at the time they were having issues with the water station, but that was NO excuse. Today, I was interested in there pre- made jarred juice Anne saw a member bringing out fresh ones. I asked if she was bringing out more of a specific one, that wasn't available and she said no, as that wasn't very popular. She did however, state that she could make one for me. I was impressed and waiting while she went back to the counter. There were a few other employees at the juice bar as well a few fold in line, so I knew it would be awhile. So I waited and watched the line disappear, and waited some more. Eventually, I looked up to not even see the girl that was " suppose" to be helping me at the counter anymore. In disbelief, I just went to ring up my other items in my cart. Lazy acres is a great place to shop. Fresh produce, good service and pretty much anything you need including wine, beer, cheese and baked goods. Prices can be really good or really dumb. Some things are 1-2 bucks more than say Jimbos. But I won't cry over it as I am not driving to both. We loved shopping Lazy when we lived in Hillcrest Area and love it up here too. Unfortunately we live in Carlsbad so when Barons opens, LA will be a distant memory. Good place to shop for organic and fresh food. I will say one more time the produce is very fresh. My new favorite fancy schmancy supermarket! If Erewhon, Whole Foods, and Sprouts all had a baby, it would be Lazy Acres. I could spend hours in there just wandering the aisles, perusing all their fun items. The produce section is beautifully organized down to the tiniest shallot. Their health, beauty & wellness sections are fully stocked with interesting products (they even have a Dr. Bronner's refill station!). They have a fun baby section filled with cutie stuffed toys. There's a space in the back where they host cooking classes. And finally my favorite, their hot bar and pre-prepped foods section looks absolutely divine (dare I say even better than Whole Foods'?). While I wouldn't do much of my actual grocery shopping here (the price tags speak for themselves), it's a fun store to pop in once in a while for a nice treat! read more

I enjoy shopping here for their organic produce and several of their deli items. I like that they offer healthy products, and will pick up items like a loaf of Ezekiel bread at times. I tried Mary's freshly roasted whole chicken last week, which was delicious, and I also enjoy Mary's cooked herb roasted chicken breasts when I'm not in the mood for dealing with raw chicken! (I really like that they sell Mary's brand of chicken, which is free range, organic available, and air chilled.) At the coffee and juice bar, my favorite juice used to be Bunny's Bounty, with carrot juice and a perfect mix of ginger to make it zesty. They don't have that on the menu anymore, though. I was also disappointed to see that they don't carry the freshly brewed Pannikin coffee anymore. To be fair, I have yet to try their Lazy Acres branded coffee--must do that! The store is laid out well, attractive, and welcoming. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I took off one star because of the prices. Even buying just a few items always makes my eyes get a little bigger when I see my receipt. So, I love stopping in here, but am selective about what I purchase, especially if it is offered more affordably elsewhere. read more

After my family and I grabbed breakfast at Prager Bros and walked around the charming town of Encinitas, we decided to introduce our daughter to the best cookies in San Diego. It is me and my wife's humble opinion that Lazy Acres' cookies are better than the gourmet cookie shops you find all around San Diego. This review is solely about the cookies found in the bakery section. So glad my wifey's boss recommended that we try Lazy Acres' cookies because we believe they're the best cookies in the city. Lazy Acres is a two-store supermarket chain in San Diego, but I believe there are other locations in California. The location we visited today was in Encinitas, but we first experienced their cookies at their other location in Mission Hills. This supermarket chain is in the vein of Whole Foods, so it focuses on organic, natural, and healthy food. The Encinitas store can be found in the Moonlight Marketplace shopping center, which is just off the 5 freeway and just down the road from South Coast Highway 101. The shopping center contains Wendy's, Serrano's Mexican Food, Jersey Mike's Subs, and Mr. Peabody's Bar & Grill. There is plenty of parking in this shopping center. At this Lazy Acres, the bakery is located towards the left back of the store from the entrance. I don't remember seeing any seats to sit down and enjoy your cookies. The employee I interacted with at the bakery was friendly and kind. I'm sure many people have purchased gourmet cookies at such places as Crumbl, Cookie Plug, The Cravory, Batch & Box, and Sprinkles. At these cookie shops, you're going to pay a premium price. For my wife and I, we believe you'll get the same type of cookie, more bang for your buck, and a yummier cookie at Lazy Acres than these high end cookie shops. We first experienced these standout cookies at the Mission Hills location. I was pleasantly surprised to find at the Encinitas location a cookie that wasn't at the Mission Hills location. There were three types of cookies we ordered. What I really love about the cookies at Lazy Acres is their value for your money. They have a special where you buy 6 cookies and get one free for $22.50. Each cookie costs $3.75. We ordered The Cookie, The Milk Chocolate Cookie, and to my surprise, The Peanut Butter Cookie. The Cookie, which is the original favorite, is packed with pure Belgian chocolate, toasted walnuts, and sprinkled with sea salt. The Milk Chocolate Cookie is self explanatory. The Peanut Butter Cookie is their newest creation, packed with melt in your mouth dollops of peanut butter. I'm a peanut butter fan and that seriously is the best tasting peanut butter cookie I've ever eaten. All of the cookies are substantial, made with quality ingredients, they're packed with flavor, and you feel like you're eating a premium cookie, but not at a premium price. I recommend that you microwave the cookies for 10 seconds to warm them up and make sure to eat them with a tall glass of milk. I waited until I visited Lazy Acres a second time to write my Yelp review about what we consider are THE BEST COOKIES in San Diego. Trust me when I say it's worth the trip to any of the two Lazy Acres in San Diego to experience yummy cookies that you don't have to pay a premium price. read more

I usually pass through this area every week and stop at the nearby taco shop for a quick bite, but I decided to see what Lazy Acres had today. Regardless of the many reviews chiding the high prices here, I was surprised to find the 2x2 BBQ combo at such a good price. The brisket just came out, so it was really tender and smokey. The ribs (4 bones) weren't that tender, but still pretty good. The "smokey bbq sauce" on the side was not smokey at all and kind of useless. Grilled brussel sprouts and sauteed mushrooms on the side were on point. Not a bad deal at all. read more

I agree with Pat S. and other reviewers here, about the tuna salad. Customers have been paying double ($15 instead of $8, see photo) for several months now, for a small container. Something smells fishy in Denmark.... In mid November the store manager promised me she'll fix the issue. But I checked in late November and in December, and the tuna salad still has added water--and is still double the price. Seems the added water (to jack up the price) is intentional. I love going to Lazy Acres. They always have very fresh food and organic options. Their beer selection is top notch with Russian River products like Pliney usually available. I love picking up their fresh squeezed orange juice which always has a kick that regular OJ doesn't. When you check out and bring your own bag they give you a token where you can choose which charity or non-profit you want the store to donate to. Some people might argue about price, but Whole Foods is expensive too. If I had to choose which high end grocery store to give my money to; Lazy Acres(which only has 6 locations in SoCal) wins out over Whole Foods(Bezos takes enough of our money already). read more

Self serve checkout was BAD. I hate it. Because I put no bags, it requires a staff member to come a clear register. Wouldn't process credit card, required employee to clear so it could process and then midway after entering or scanning code, it required an employee. This was not an easy checkout. It's actually a great place for lunch or to pick up dinner from their various food bar stations and bakery areas. For health and ingredient conscious eaters their higher end selection is unmatched and really well curated. Ahhh...Lazy Acres. This is one of the most organized markets in the area. The floorplan is well thought out and it allows you to browse much of the produce, baked goods and other offerings easily. Prices are a little higher here, but the shopping experience is excellent. They carry a large number of organic and seasonal produce and products. I love the Poke and Sashimi bar. They have a nice selection and I always get there early in the morning to get it as fresh as possible. The Bakery has the one of the best Chocolate Chip cookies I have ever tasted from a gourmet market. I dare you to walk by, look in the display case and attempt to walk away without purchasing a cookie. You'll leave with three. That's just one of the tempting baked goods available. When I can't seem to find an item I'm looking for in the larger chain supermarkets, I can always find it here. Lazy Acres is the type of grocery store where I just surrender to the goodness and let my credit card sort out the details. There's a juice bar in store that sells a mighty good green juice that's tart and earthy, like a good green juice should be. They also sell Have'a Chips and Chica Chips, which one would expect at any Southern California non-chain grocery store. Everywhere you look, there is something to buy that you didn't think you needed. Everything in Lazy Acres is arranged nicely and intuitively, so the things you're looking for are easy to find.
