Be aware they are not a trustworthy shop for a VOLVO. This is a long review, but please read it before taking your car there. They not only over charged for after market pieces, as they also damaged our car that never been in an accident before, but now thanks to this "specialist shop" our car has an accident report. They called their insurance to fix the damage they did to our car body in their shop while there were "fixing" it. We took our XC90 for a regular maintenance at Svenska Volvo Specialist and told them there was an engine light . They did their analysis and called us back for brakes replacement that according to them were damaged and we needed new ones, $1900 for everything . I authorized the service , then after picking up the car the engine light came back right away, I took it back and they diagnosed something else and charged another $900 for that... and there was another part of $2600 they also recommended to do it, but we just agreed to the $900 part. When I went to pick up the car , Joe told us about the damage that was an accident that occurred while he was driving the car without locking the car hood ( no idea how he managed to drive the car like that , since this car is full of sensors and alerts), anyways during his test driving , the hood opened and damaged the body of the car. Short story they called their insurance and we had to deal with everything else, they never called us to ensure we were getting the car fixed or nothing like that. When I mentioned the car would not be liken new anymore, because now would have an accident report, the owner , Sako looked at me with a bit of a rude attitude and a "dry" voice , I was alone and did not want to cause any discussion, but the whole situation was very uncomfortable. Later on we took our car to VOLVO dealership maintenance department to verify what they have done in the car, and found out the pieces they charged us was everything after market pieces, and also the $2600 they were trying to charge us was covered for free on VOLVO since my car had less than 70k miles. read more

I took my car to this place because they are supposedly a Volvo specialist. I let them know that the motor blew as I rented out my Volvo to a customer and I wanted to get a rebuild because the insurance company was possibly going to reimburse me for the damages. Once the owner heard that they were going to reimburse me for the damages they hiked up the price to about $7000 and said it needed a full rebuild. From an initial $2000 quote. When I went to pick up the car they added a bunch of things I didn't ask for like radiator new battery and a bunch of other miscellaneous items that they added on and tagged onto the bill. He said that the most high and mighty/his father had rebuilded himself with his magical hands. The brakes were not adjusted right and leaking fluid carburetor was not new it was actually the same one and I rebuilt they charged me for a new head cover gasket and head cover it was the same here cover that they sanded down. Well the insurance company didn't ending up paying for it but they kept their price the same or threaten to put a lien on my car and keep it. When he was asking for the money he was super nice but when I had complaints he was very upset and angry and even rude. I would really not recommend this place also/additionally while my car was in their possession they left it in the streets for over a week I got a ticket they stole my surfboard from the top as well as my vintage ice chest and then they told me that they were not responsible for it. All in all I would not recommend them it is a third generation family and they are all scammers and that's what they were taught to do. Would not-- definitely would not recommend them to anybody find another Volvo specialist they are Shamer's and scammers. read more

Okay, take it from someone who went to this place for years: you'd better know your car better than they do. I don't know whether it was general ignorance or irresponsibility but they really should focus either on selling cars or fixing them. They do not have the time to do both things well. Have I had things fixed by them? Yes. Better than other places? Sometimes. Is Sako always willing to help you find a used part? Definitely. Are they reliable? No. Maybe I should have begun to suspect something when I learned that the owner of Svenska drives a Hummer. A weird choice, in my opinion, for someone who works exclusively with Volvos. The Volvo that I bought from him (1996 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon for around $6500) began deteriorating within months after purchasing it, and I have put well over the initial cost of the car into trying to keep it alive for the past 4 years. (In point of fact, I have probably spent "at least" the purchase price on it every single year since I first acquired it.) At the beginning of this year a mysterious radiator leak appeared, and the problem would not go away - I call it mysterious because the temperature gauge seemed to be in working condition yet never indicated that the car was overheating. So, for about 5 months hoses were checked/tightened/replaced; a radiator tray was replaced; the cooling fan was replaced and then FINALLY, the last straw was after the coolant reservoir was replaced because it had a crack... which I, myself, diagnosed. I thought that was it, end of the problem. And then, about a week later? Same. F%#*^ing. Problem. I decided, fine, Einstein must be onto something (re: the definition of insanity) even if it took me awhile to wise up. I brought my car to Independent Volvo in Pasadena (which gets 5 stars from me and round of cheers) to ask them for THEIR opinion. Within 2 hours, the honorable fellow at Independent Volvo called to tell me that my car had not just been leaking but had been overheating FOR MONTHS. That, firstly, there was a problem with the head gasket, among other things, and just to fix that would cost "$3000+ which was more than the car was worth if it was in full working condition" and that he advised donating it or selling it for $200 to CarMax. At this point, I would have paid easily $200 for his time paired with that level of honesty from a mechanic but he charged me nothing. NOTHING. No catch, nothing, he apologized for not being able to give me better news. As much of a bummer as it was to learn that (and it was), it was also kind of a relief. Welcome closure. If I had been given the same news a couple of months ago from Svenska, I probably would have been upset but I would have respected them. I'm guessing that if the fellow at Independent Volvo could spot that problem within 2 hours, the people at Svenska (who have been working with Volvo's for yeeeears) should have seen it. So, I am left with 2 conclusions to choose from. They are either: A. Ignorant - They don't know what they are doing. Or, B. Irresponsible - They willfully ignored major problems in the pursuit of money. In either case, they don't care about loyalty and they don't respect their customers, and in so doing, it would seem that they don't understand the long game. I have since donated my Volvo to the Aquarium of the Pacific - I am deeply sorry to my car for failing it by not bringing it to a new mechanic sooner, when it might have been salvageable. read more

They came highly recommended. I live in Woodland hills, CA and drive quite a ways to get my car serviced there because these guys are that thorough. If I feel something is not fixed to my complete satisfaction they will inspect and make any changes without further charge until I'm satisfied so they get big props for that. I wish there was an option for 0 stars. This place sold me a lemon, which was overpriced to begin with. We bought it from him hoping that his skills as a mechanic would ensure my cars upkeep. Well, my car overheated not 24 hours after buying it. I bought the part to fix it (since it came broken) from a dealership since I was too far to contact Svenska. I went back to Svenska hoping he would reimburse me, but he refused. A week later I was back at Svenska, as my car was having problem after problem. I would take the car back in hopes he would fix it, but after an hour of driving my "fixed car" the check engine light would come on, and I was back to square one. Not only was the engine having problems, but the tires were leaking and interior was falling apart rapidly right off the bat. The worst part is he would confirm it was "fixed" by saying he had driven it around all day to make sure. The car wasn't fixed, and he had emptied my tank every time. Thanks Svenska. By the way I took my car to another mechanic that I got referred to and he fixed my overheating problem and tire problem by changing old rotten parts. Svenska had taken the easy route and instead of "checking over everything before selling it" like promised, he bluffed his way into getting rid of an old, leaky car. I NEVER write reviews but I had to this time to keep this guy in check!! Took my friends C30 in for a minor tune-up and passenger side mirror repair. Told them to check the clutch for adjustment. He call me the next day and tell me the windshield is cracked and he will repair it for $675!! I went in the following day and looked at the crack and told him it wasn't there when I brought it in. He became indignant and acted like I had insulted him. I told him that there was NO WAY i would not have seen THAT crack down the MIDDLE of the windshield. We went back and forth and I never even raised my voice or argued with him. My guess is he took it for a drive to check the clutch and a pebble hit it and cracked the windshield. He could/should have just called me, told me the truth and used his insurance to fix it. He probably didn't want his premium going up so he came up with that hair brained idea. I called Safelite and they will replace it for $300 total (so he was going to gouge me on that too). This guy is dishonest and a liar. Glad I found out before I took him my other Volvo for repairs. read more

I have been going to Svenska for about three years now and WOULD NOT trust my 2003 Volvo XC90 to anyone else! They are the very best! Kind, courteous and easy to work with. I have compared their prices to other companies and they are always slightly if not much cheaper than the competition! I drive a Volvo specifically because of the trust I have in Sako and Joe! As a mechanic, Haruk is an artist. The pride and workmanship he puts into his craft is unparalleled in any mechanic I have ever been to. I just sold my V70 Wagon (which Svenska kept running beautifully - well past 350,000 miles) and purchased another pre-owned Volvo from Svenska. My wife had been taking her 2002 S60 here for years, I always thought he was kind of expensive but didn't question the work he was doing. In my few interactions with the owner he came of as arrogant and condescending. That is until the last checkup the mechanic recommended some very expensive repairs. I took the car to a Pasadena Volvo mechanic that is independent and that a friend trusts, they confirmed for me never to go to Svenska again. The one star was accidental. If there was an option for minus stars I would have chosen it. The service at this filthy establishment is beyond terrible. Wrong parts were used on a $6000 service, causing $2000 worth of damage. The owner is dishonest, disrespectful and rude. I read the previous reviews when I was trying to post mine.I have a completely different opinion about Svenska Volvo based of course on my experience.I own a S70 and been there for yrs for oil change and other mechanical problems.They are very knowledgeable and friendly.Good service and cheap price don.t go well together.In a few words they give you a good service but is not cheap.You have an option to go to a mechanic at the corner of the street and get a lower price and chances are that he knows about Volvo as much as i know about Chinese language.Or go to a Volvo dealer and get a quote if you wanna have a stroke !!! On one occasion i had 2 quotes for hundreds of dollars to change my radiator.Svenska Volvo found the problem in a few moments tested my radiator changed a faulty switch and cost me only 25 dollars.That was over 3 yrs ago !!!I still have the same radiator!Once again i recommend these guys to look at your car find the problem and fix it! The place is always packed with cars waiting to be fixed.I understand some people might have complains BUT if they really suck and are doing a bad job How in the hell they are still in business????
