I had this cake for the first time around 2014ish. It was the best cake I ever tasted. I was looking forward to trying this cake again. Telling everyone to get a cake from here. Then on Oct 13th I finally ordered a large cake for my family of 4, excited to eat it all. It was awful, I was surprised considering I picked up a cupcake while grabbing my order and it was good. Not the best cake ever but good. I still had high hopes. It was way too sweet. I've never had that complaint before. None of us could differentiate between the frosting, filling and cake. We kept picking at it and it never got better. We only had a piece each and from that only a few bites before going into the trash. So I caved in and returned to SusieCakes coz I was having a bad day several moons ago and I needed something sweet to lift up my spirits. And my spirits wanted cake! I treated myself to slices of carrot cake and chocolate cake. SusieCakes' old-fashioned chocolate cake has always been my fave, but I think the carrot cake is maybe my new #1. It's just THAT delicious. The chocolate cake, while delightful too, is just super sweet for my liking. I end up not eating the frosting coz it's too much... well, I do the same for the carrot cake frosting but the flavor profile of the carrot cake is just another level. The spices perfectly complement the carrots, and the cake had the right amount of moisture and texture. After today, SusieCakes is back to 5 stars for me. Their chocolate chip cookies are like really large sized and very delicious. Not too sweet and has perfect balance of chocolate chips in it. Their red velvet cupcake is really delicious, I also tried their coconut cream cupcake which was pretty good but bit too sweet for my palate. They are pretty pricey but the quality is good. I visited a couple of hours ago and was not pleased at the handling of the pastries as no gloves are worn. The woman attending me grabbed my mini cupcake by putting her thumb on the frosting to pull it out of the case. It also doesn't help that her hands were also handling the phones. I would ask the lady at the register questions about switching the design / adding designs, all she said was "no no, we can't do that". My dad went in today to pick up the order and they did not have any of the lettering / saying on the cake, and no logo i paid extra for extra for... Super annoying when you place an order and they can't even get the order correct. They refunded the money I paid extra for the logo but the fact that they didn't follow directions and my dad had to tell them to do what was already supposed to be done and wait is super unprofessional.
