Weird service. Won't be coming back! I walk in very excited to look over the selection this place offers since it's my second time . I also specifically came to choose a slice for my sister in law's birthday. So after the one person ahead of us finished his order, we are up next. Another customer walks in the shop and the cashier completely forgets about us and starts helping the customer that just walked in! Mind you we have been waiting for 10 minutes. On 05/12/26, I decided to indulge and treat myself to a sweet treat so Susie's Cakes it was. I was the only customer at the time so there was no wait. The worker was very friendly. I purchased a Red Velvet & Strawberry Cupcake. The cupcakes were delicious as usual but it appears the cupcakes were smaller than they use to be but cost the same. The restaurant was clean as usual and they had plenty of goodies to choose from. This location is at the Long Beach Exchange and has plenty of parking. Personally, I go for the cake slices since it's my perfect cake to frosting ratio - more cake, less frosting. Lol. My regular 3 slices are the celebration cake (funfetti with buttercream), red velvet (with cream cheese frosting), and the carrot cake (golden raisins, pecans, cream cheese frosting). For me, they're worth it, it's one of the only places that I really like their fronting and their cake, but it is a splurge. But let me tell you - their carrot cake is out of this world. It is phenomenal. If you love carrot cake, you should try this at least once. I also LOVE their lemon cupcake. It's not quite as good as nothing Bundt cake's lemon cake, but it is a close second. Their chocolate cupcakes are deep chocolatey goodness. Chocolate on chocolate is heavenly. Their red velvet and vanilla cake and cupcakes are also really solid because they have such good frosting, but those are not the flavors I typically choose. There was no lemon flavor at all, the icing was mushy, and the cake was like eating an eraser and had absolutely no flavor. Not even a vanilla taste to save it . No lemon whatsoever. That being said, I think this was just not my type of cake and it's 100% a personal preference thing. The cake itself was good! Moist, soft, sweet, chocolately...but too sugary sweet for me? I've always preferred lighter, airy cakes and this is more of a classic American cake? Heavier and denser. The frosting was what pushed it into too sweet for me. I like more whipped creams, and this was a thicker, sweeter, heavier frosting. It's a cake that I can only have very small amounts of at a time and be satisfied. I think their marbled cake would probably be a flavor I like much more. I absolutely needed a glass of milk or tea with this. Overall though, this is a preference thing as I mentioned. It's weird, I don't like cake but if it's in a convenient shape my brain tells me it's better than cake. I get one cupcake for 4.99 and request no packaging. I'm usually a regular at the location on La Brea & also in Brentwood.. I just visited this location today, and I didn't experience the staff to be as friendly and warm as the other locations. It felt a little more standoffish - no good vibes. Furthermore, I took home my berry cake slice & instantly noticed it's abnormally dark in the white cake area, which is not something I am used to. I usually eat my slice over a period of multiple days, and I've never experienced other locations to serve me a slice that eventually leads the cake slice to be super dense & gooey feeling. My cake slice from here, right off the bat, already tastes and feels off. I called in to inquire and address the issue & the employee who answered said this is normal due to the nature of the cake. Normally, I might actually believe it.. but the fact that I've already purchased this exact cake slice from other locations various times, and never had this occur, I'm just not sure what to believe. Best believe though, I won't be finishing this slice - it just tastes off and it sucks because the slices aren't cheap.
