This place is ok. Kinda a healthy spin on sushi. I didn't like the wraps because it fell completely apart on me but the eel was to die for!

It's fast food sushi. If you walk in the door with that expectation, you won't be as disappointed. So why 2 stars? Because I can go to HEB in this same shopping center and buy better sushi for several dollars less. Sadly, I wasted a good amount of money here because I was craving sushi badly after being deprived of it all throughout my pregnancy. With a newborn at home, I couldn't really venture further than a few miles, so I found myself here. I ordered a bit of everything - classic rolls, special rolls, a sushi wrap, and an unagi bowl. I actually enjoyed the sushi wrap the best - although it's nowhere close to the size of a burrito, as they claim on the menu. The classic rolls were better than the special rolls - the special rolls mostly all have tempura and some sort of mayo, and the flavors were not very cohesive. All the rolls were wrapped poorly, so they fell apart when I tried to pick them up. They definitely need work in the presentation department. I think the classic rolls were reasonably priced at $6 to $7, but the special rolls are all in the $10 to $12 range, which is way too much for sushi of this caliber. The unagi bowl was disappointing as well, the sauce was unauthentic and the unagi wasn't flaky. Pros: they do have free vanilla soft-serve. And if you love this place for some reason, dine here on Mondays - they will give you a gift card equivalent in price to your meal for future use. read more

I was looking for a good sushi place so I looked on yelp and I was very disappointed. The tuna that came in my sushi roll tasted like it was ground. It was some of the worst sushi I've ever had. You would be better off going to the grocery store. read more

Giving it a 3 stars based on my food order. I ordered the spicy salmon bowl and didn't realize the salmon was raw not cooked. Perhaps I didn't see the sign but not sure. Prices were reasonable. I'll will stop by again. read more

Nice concept, but poorly executed. The sushi burrito sounds good in theory but you're better off with a sushi or handroll. The spring mix was not a good addition and the soy paper did not hold well. Very fresh sushi, very clean, and comfortable place. Service is great and fast. The sweet and spicy shrimp appetizer is a must-try. For those that like their foods cooked, I highly recommend the grilled chicken udon or unagi rice bowl. read more

Today was my first time trying Sushi Pop. I wanted something that was nearby and a place that I could just pick up my order from. I ordered the Seafood Sushi Wrap because it sounded interesting, as well as the cream cheese puffs because I love cream cheese puffs. I asked for no avocado and cucumber in my wrap. The pick-up was fast and easy, but I was disappointed when I got home. They had not taken out the avocado and cucumber, even though the guy had said to me, "You got the Seafood Sushi Wrap with no avocado or cucumber?" The wrap wasn't very good anyways, I didn't like it. The cream cheese puffs were alright, but I probably wouldn't order from Sushi Pop again. I'll just go to HEB in the same parking lot for better sushi. read more

It's great for what it is, meaning it's not going to be to the level of Uchi or Kata Robata, but its always tasted fresh. I love the idea of building your own roll. My favorite thing to get there though is the spicy tuna bowl and my bf always gets the kobe beef burger, which I have to say is really delicious. It's juicy and fresh. I think SushiPop should be called SushiPoop instead! I am currently suffering from bubble guts right now. I stopped by here for lunch with my sister using a Groupon. We ordered the Pop It roll (fried salmon roll with cream cheese) and the Ooh Ahi (ahi tuna and spicy salmon roll).. both rolls were ok, nothing special. We also decided to order salmon sashimi just to give it a try and of course it was rubbery and not that fresh. We always come here on Mondays! They have eat free Mondays. You get a gift card for the amount of sushi that you buy. It's a great deal. I like the dragon roll, sashimi, and just the regular fish on rice. It's great food! They also have other things to choose from that are not sushi. They have great burgers and chicken and rice. This is a great little place to get good quality sushi at an economical price. I had the Sushi Burrito special (softshell crab roll essentially on steroids. I'm talking Texas Super Size!!) which included a choice of soup, sweet potato fries or salad and a drink for $8.95. The "burrito" was surprisingly very good and filling. We could not finish it. I wanted to try this place a few times before writing a review, so after 3 tries here's the scoop. Pros: In terms of food, Sushipop is about average - not really bad, but nothing really stands out as really good. The price compared to portions of the servings is also average - not so small that you would feel cheated, but not large enough to feel you stretched your dollars. The Udon dishes are served hot with enough of the meats (beef or chicken) and vegetables. I would stay away from the shrimp udon because of the 2 tiny shrimp tempuras. The tempura, spicy tuna, and california rolls I had were okay, but the mirin used to cook the sushi rice had an after taste which may bother some people. Cons: Of the 3 times I visited, twice the restaurant was badly kepted. By that I mean the tables were not thoroughly cleaned because of bits of food and stains from previous patrons on the tables and seats. The bathroom had no paper and the soap dispenser were out of soap. And on the same 2 visits, the frozen yogurt dispenser was not working. When I informed the staff, they just put an "Out of Order" sign and could not care less. So much for the free complimentary yogurt. Which brings up the rude and unfriendly cashier and staff: I can't put my finger on it but they just seemed PO'ed about something - brisk and no smile, just a stare at you. I have noticed that the one time when everything seemed to be okay - clean tables, working yogurt dispensers, and a friendly cashier was when an Asian lady was working the cashier and taking orders. I was even asked how my food was. Having given this place 3 tries, I probably won't be coming back because there is not anything that begs me to comeback again. read more

Not really worth it even with the Monday coupon. While they have the usual sushi items and a few other bowls, the quality and taste is just not there. The rolls and handrolls are about the same kinds available at a grocery store, but usually worse. I had tried the Spider Roll, California Roll, and Shaggy Dog. The Spider Roll had maybe 1/3 of what you would get at a real Sushi restaurant. The California roll was a waste of my money - I could have made better. And the shrimp tempura on the Shaggy Dog were tiny. In fact, all the shrimps they use here are at best small. What truly made it bad was the rice they used to make the sushi - real sushi and the origin of sushi was for the rice; everything else on it was just the icing. But the rice here did not even have any flavor. No taste of Japanese Mirin and other flavoring that real sushi rice should have. I also tried the Chicken and Beef Udon, and while the Beef Udon was okay (actually fit to eat) the Chicken had burnt pieces of wood stuck to it. At first I thought it was just burn Chicken, but they were definitely wood. The soup base for both were nothing to get excited about - tasted like the instant powder kind you get from Asian grocery stores. The overall cleaniless of the place is also not something to brag about. Table surfaces were sticky and stained, and not cleaned up very quickly - the place had 3 customers counting myself last time and about half the tables had not been cleared. Also, the free frozen yogurt machine always seems out of order - I only ever seen it working once out of 4 times. read more

This is supposed to be a fast-casual restaurant but once you order anything substantial other than the lunch special, you're spending $12-$18 and for Sushi there are better choices at that price. I always say there is no such thing as a wrong choice when picking sushi. Came here the other night because my friend thought the Monday gift card thing was get a meal anytime and then you could only redeem on Monday 5 - 10, but he's an idiot and instead, its get the gift card from M 5-10 to use any other time. I actually have no idea what I ordered, but I will say the salad that comes with the rolls I got was a nice portion, and not the tiny ramekin sized ones you usually see. Service was fast, everything looked clean, tasted fresh, & a yogurt machine?!?! Unfortunately, the chocolate frozen yogurt pooped out literally as I walked up to it. The girl that worked there put an "out of order" sign when I was going for the lever thingy. The plain vanilla was good on its own anyways. The music... Sugar Ray, Spin Doctors, other one-two hit wonders from the 90s... meh. It did make for conversation though. My friend always makes fun of me when I do my yelp check-ins and decided to take my phone when we were waiting for our sushi to come out and found the recent check-ins section. He told me to walk over to the guy across the way and say "Hi, I saw you checked in a few minutes ago". (I didn't) He finds my yelping entertaining, but whatever, I get my "Free edamame" via yelp next time I go next Monday 5 - 10 and he gets none. read more

So, three stars. Why you ask? Well, we had a groupon and I decided to use it today 4 lunch. I ordered a 5 pc veggie spring roll, a red devil and a big texas. Total was almost $9 after the $14 groupon was deducted. Not to bad. Sushi was good. Not the best ever, but decent size rolls and good. Problem was the wait. It took upwards of 30 min to get my order and there were only a handfull of people there. The two chicks behind me ordered way more food, got theirs and was almost done eating when my order came out. Not to cool. Overall, I would go again but maybe when I have nothing else to do but sit and stare at others eating while I wait for 2 rolls and a few spring rolls. read more

Come here on a Monday!~ That's the time you'll really see great value for your buck, because they give you a gift card for as much as you paid. The end result is around $4.50-5.00 for a roll of sushi, and their quality is much better than HEB sushi, for example! Free ice cream (I don't think it's yogurt) was a nice touch. The sushi were just OK, too much sauce for my taste, kinda numb the fish taste. Order at the counter, and they'll bring your order to the table. The sushi wrap is pretty interesting, it was just basically a sushi as big as a wrap sandwich. SushiPop is a little gem on Bunker Hill's shopping strip. I come here a lot during lunch. Love their deal of dining in on Monday (time specific/dine in only) and receiving a free gift card in the amount I paid for dinner. They have a self-serve icecream maker. Delish!
