This was years back, but when we showed up on Saturday they honored the token. So lunch date was a go We came in slightly after opening. If you haven't been, this is over off of Long point in a large parking lot with plenty of parking available. Walking in there were only two other couples dining around the bar. Our weight staff went through the menu and off menu items. They had some interesting options that I have not tried previously so we tried a little bit of errythang. I ordered one of their off menu appetizers, miso hummus with taro chips. Served cold, it has a citrus taste that pairs well with the small spice from the chili paste. It was fantastic and well worth the $4. She ordered the miso soup. A very tasty and rue-like broth, distinct flavors, heavier and more satisfying than your normal miso. Almost gumbo consistency, loved it. We started with your basic three-piece set. Spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab. You already know that both tuna and salmon are going to be amazing just because the fish by itself is amazing, especially when super fresh. Does it compete with my Pacific Northwest King Salmon, no. But I can't compare everything to that beautiful fish. These were all very fresh. Very tasty. The blue crab caught me off guard. Tasting fresh AF, a very good crab filled mouthful. I liked this more than I anticipated. We continued down the menu with Softshell Crab. With carrot and cucumber and an interesting spice mix in the black sesame aioli. Very tasty, surprisingly heavier than anticipated. Really liked it. We also ordered one of the off the menu rolls. This was a Toro roll with Texas peach and Pearl onion. There's a really interesting mix of flavors but it came out slightly sweet and very tasty. We did order a round of drinks. Sock It Ume highball, boozy with a hint of Citrus. Refreshingly strong. Everything's Lychee Keen. Also boozy, with Lychee twang. Overall our meal was fantastic! Service was excellent! Everybody was very courteous and super efficient. The facility was very clean and well organized. They served one roll at a time, and waited until we were done with the prior before making and serving the next. I did end up ordering another bowl of taro chips to finish the hummus. Hummus. It was a small added cost, but not a problem. I ordered the 3-piece hand roll set (spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab), a toro hand roll, salmon sashimi, and ribeye skewers. Everything tasted good, but the blue crab hand roll was my favorite. I also ordered sake, which paired well with the meal. They also served us a complimentary tamago at the end of our meal. It was delicious and a nice surprise! So, as promised I came by again for the lunch hour. However, this time was a bust. So the server did not hear me when I said I wanted the chicken karrage. So, she sent over the curry croquettes. I quickly told her that was not what I ordered in a nice way. She said ok, went to the register and placed the order for the karaage. She then proceeds to give the croquettes to the couple next to me for free y'all. The new server came on because it was her shift and handed me my receipt before asking me if I wanted anything else. I noticed that they had taken off the croquettes and so I was like ok, they were comping them. When I got to the counter, she proceeded to add the chicken karaage on to my bill. The atmosphere is bar like style where you could be seated to someone. At the end you pay with the hostess. They also had a speakeasy(kenpai club) on the other side where you can order drinks and do karaoke. I tried multiple different drinks and they even put some of them in a cute glass. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. My favorite 3 roll was the shellfish it was the most filling. I did try the classic 3 roll too. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of them. The seaweed wrapper was crispy and not soggy, the rice warm and soft, and the fish just tasty. After eating at the Heights location a few times I was excited to see that Hando had opened a Spring Branch spot closer to home. The restaurant is in a newly updated strip center on Longpoint nestled alongside other popular neighborhood eateries with plenty of public parking in the attached lot. Hando is a hand roll sushi restaurant that offers bar top seating and service usually makes your orders one at a time as you eat, so you can enjoy each piece of sushi freshly made. They have a couple of very popular happy hours, so be on the lookout for a deal if you can come early or time it right. The menu's main event is hand rolls (duh) along with crudo, skewers, and some small plate offerings. The hand rolls are a good size and you'd be plenty full after maybe 3-4 pieces and an appetizer. To start, we got a spiel about the daily specials, but I didn't pay too much attention to this. It would've been more effective to have it on a white board, since I overheard the same speech maybe 4 different times given to the other patrons throughout the course of my meal. For the food: the handrolls were prepared a little too fast for my liking. I had barely finished my 1st roll when the 2nd was already ready, which caused the seaweed to be soggy when I ate it a few minutes later. This happened for the rest of the handrolls that came out - so overall, the timing was really off. The fish inside was decent, but with a tad fishy aroma. The fried oyster handroll was the only one that really stands out among the rest. I also got the ribeye skewers, and they were OK - not too tough to chew, but didn't really taste like it was freshly grilled or cooked. The uni bite had a somewhat creamy texture but I didn't think it was anything crazy, probably wouldn't get again. The karage bento had chicken karage, rice, brussel sprouts, dumplings and a piece of castella cake. Last time I came here was for Kanpai Club (the speakeasy) in the back but I was finally able to try the restaurant. My friend and I came in during lunch time so we were able to try their lunch course menu which is $21 each. We both got the handroll set that consisted of Spicy Tuna, yellowtail, and salmon (there are two other options that are listed in the menu). I got the curry croquette for the small plate option and my friend got the matchstick salad. As for appetizers (separate from the Prix Fixe Lunch), we ordered the Salmon Kama. Initially we were worried that it wouldn't be enough but we were both quite full by the end so it's definitely worth! Although the matchstick salad is a nice refreshing start to the meal, the curry croquette is delicious- perfectly fried with the savory rich curry sauce that everyone loves. As for the handrolls, they were all delicious- the salmon roll was our favorite! Speaking of salmon, the salmon kama was fantastic too. I will say there are a lot of bones so do be careful if you order this but it's a great appetizer choice if you're craving more fish. The set option doesn't allow substitution so you can add in additional hand roll. I have always love the blue crab hand roll but the fried oyster was also really good. Came here for happy hour after getting off work. The inside decor is simple yet elegant. Very rectangular shape with a long bar set up in the middle and seating around the outside edge. The staff was very attentive and helpful and always prompted that it was happy hour and last call for happy hour to make sure we got our orders in.
