So, as promised I came by again for the lunch hour. However, this time was a bust. So the server did not hear me when I said I wanted the chicken karrage. So, she sent over the curry croquettes. I quickly told her that was not what I ordered in a nice way. She said ok, went to the register and placed the order for the karaage. She then proceeds to give the croquettes to the couple next to me for free y'all. The new server came on because it was her shift and handed me my receipt before asking me if I wanted anything else. I noticed that they had taken off the croquettes and so I was like ok, they were comping them. When I got to the counter, she proceeded to add the chicken karaage on to my bill. Seriously, I told her that the other girl just gave the croquettes to a couple. WOW!!! She just said, so sorry. Nope won't be back.
I have went to the OG hando location before during their opening and ordered through the pandemic, and it was decent, so I wanted to try this location and give some support. ironic bc im giving them 3 stars, however I would come back so let me explain.... here's what we ordered: 5p hand roll set: spicy tuna, yellowtail, blue crab, fried oyster, shrimp katsu $29 -spicy tuna: tuna scallion, spicy miso/ taste like Louisiana hot sauce - and the hot sauce flavor overpowered the tuna, not compliment, barely taste any miso which is normally very umami -yellowtail: yellowtail, nigiri, green onion - when they opened this container - the room filled with fish smell - which was already off putting before eating it, it was fair -blue crab: blue crab, Japanese sp mayo, yuzu, tobiko, micro cilantro - this was decent and probably had the most protein of them all - would order again -fried oyster: panko fried oyster, bell pepper, green onion, micro-cilantro, yuzu, kasha aioli - had a fishy taste - could use another flavor compliment -shrimp katsu: panko fried shrimp, cucumber, katsu sauce - the shrimp batter was good, but could use some sp mayo soft shell crab - add on roll - was soft, and tasted undercooked I didn't like everything I ordered, I thought things could use more flavor compliments, the panko shrimp batter was good tho, until you got to the rice. and the extra piece of seaweed at the bottom gives extra chewing necessity. service was good, fully staffed. plenty of people doing take out orders. and also kanpai club - I would go back, but order different things, and don't worry - I will update to 5 stars
Only got their takeout. The rolls were pretty good! Fish was fresh and tasty. Some reason I thought the rolls were going to be bigger based off pictures online.
This place isn't affiliated with handie duoz but they're similar. They have a lunch special where you can select between 3 diff type of hand rolls. They bring you the next roll after you finish the roll you have. The same thing with drinks they don't give you any drinks until you finish it halfway through. The atmosphere is bar like style where you could be seated to someone. At the end you pay with the hostess. They also had a speakeasy(kenpai club) on the other side where you can order drinks and do karaoke. I tried multiple different drinks and they even put some of them in a cute glass. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. My favorite 3 roll was the shellfish it was the most filling. I did try the classic 3 roll too. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of them. The seaweed wrapper was crispy and not soggy, the rice warm and soft, and the fish just tasty. Love that the happy hour menu you can choose a "small plate" appetizer and then one of the 3 rolls. At the end they gave me a complimentary egg dessert like bite.
After eating at the Heights location a few times I was excited to see that Hando had opened a Spring Branch spot closer to home. The restaurant is in a newly updated strip center on Longpoint nestled alongside other popular neighborhood eateries with plenty of public parking in the attached lot. Hando is a hand roll sushi restaurant that offers bar top seating and service usually makes your orders one at a time as you eat, so you can enjoy each piece of sushi freshly made. They have a couple of very popular happy hours, so be on the lookout for a deal if you can come early or time it right. The menu's main event is hand rolls (duh) along with crudo, skewers, and some small plate offerings. The hand rolls are a good size and you'd be plenty full after maybe 3-4 pieces and an appetizer. They have handroll sets on the menu where they offer a 3 roll, 4 roll, and 5 roll set at fixed prices which makes it easy to navigate different samplings. Service was super friendly and prompt. It's bar top service so help is never far away if you have a question or need something. Hando is a great way to get your sushi fix in if you're in the area and craving a roll or two.
Was craving handrolls for dinner and decided to branch out of the usual Handies Duzo run and try a different handroll place. I got the 4 piece set for $25. To start, we got a spiel about the daily specials, but I didn't pay too much attention to this. It would've been more effective to have it on a white board, since I overheard the same speech maybe 4 different times given to the other patrons throughout the course of my meal. For the food: the handrolls were prepared a little too fast for my liking. I had barely finished my 1st roll when the 2nd was already ready, which caused the seaweed to be soggy when I ate it a few minutes later. This happened for the rest of the handrolls that came out - so overall, the timing was really off. The fish inside was decent, but with a tad fishy aroma. The fried oyster handroll was the only one that really stands out among the rest. I also got the ribeye skewers, and they were OK - not too tough to chew, but didn't really taste like it was freshly grilled or cooked. It was only just warm, which signifies to me that they had it out for a little bit before serving it to us. Nothing mind-blowing. The place was cute in a food-centric plaza, but I would not come back if I had another handroll craving.
Tucked away in a new, clean strip mall with plenty of parking, this restaurant was easy to find and comfortable to visit. I appreciated that the air conditioning was set nice and cold, which made it pleasant to dine in. The interior had domed lighting with bar counter seating that gave it a modern feel. The setup is interesting--usually one person makes the rolls per group of customers, but if you're eating quickly, another staff member will swing by to help keep up with the pace. The food itself was decent, though nothing that really gave a big "wow" factor. One note of caution: skip the Wagyu meatballs. They were too dry and definitely not worth the price. Overall, a decent spot if you're in the area, but not necessarily one I'd go out of my way for.
Hando has a pretty neat HH where they do a set meal for $25 everyday (?) 11-3pm and then another HH from 3-5pm(?) with $5 menu items. I came in to try the 3 roll set and a couple appetizers from the later HH menu. Honestly, I thought that everything was just okay. I was most excited for the blue crab HR, but it was honestly just super creamy and I couldn't really taste the crab. The appetizers were both good, crispy, and served hot, I just think it was, again, pretty average. I do want to try some other items like other hand rolls, the skewers, and other hot plates, so maybe my rating will improve the next visit. The service and staff were super friendly and our chef was pretty interactive through our experience. The restaurant is also super clean and I love the ambiance lighting from the bar and the music was on point!
Made it to happy hour (3pm-6pm daily)! Long was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made some great suggestions. There's a good amount of seating and we were able to walk-in and got seated right away without reservations. Started off with the Umeboshi Margarita (tasty and delicious and tangy). On the HH, we got the Takoyaki and the Squid Karagae (really enjoyed the aioli it came with and ended up dipping my handrolls in it). Ordered the 5-handroll set and it included Spicy Tuna*, Hamachi Poke, Blue Crab, Fried Oyster, Shrimp Katsu. The quality was pretty good of the fish and fried seafood was light and airy. Pricing is also quite comparable to other handroll spots in houston. I liked that none of them were avocado hand rolls within the set. I feel like that's a silly handroll to have. Water was always kept full and the rest of the staff were helpful and nice as well. Also attached is their speakeasy - Kanpai located in the back near the restrooms through the red door. Which they close at 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and serve drinks and late night bites. Parking - within the plaza
This place is great! It's a sit-at-the-bar and order hand rolls type place, so not good for little kids unless they can sit alone on a bar stool type seat, but I did see younger big kids eating in there w/ their parents. The food comes quickly & everything was great. The staff was also really friendly and accommodating. Everything you want in a neighborhood sushi spot. And for the adults, there's a cute little speakeasy in the back that feels like the Japanese underground. The drinks we had in there were really good.
Had a gift card for Hando and decided to try it out since I was in the area for their spring branch location. This is my first time going to a hand roll restaurant and trying handrolls. I tried an uni bite, their limited time special rodeo hand roll, and the 3 piece handokase (spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab). The uni bite had a somewhat creamy texture but I didn't think it was anything crazy, probably wouldn't get again. The rodeo handroll was their special pork belly hand roll and it had a nice crisp, it was good but I prob wouldn't get again as I would focus more on the seafood ones. For the handokase, I really liked both the spicy tuna and blue crab ones. The salmon was good but nothing in special. These handrolls are actually a pretty decent size and I like how the seaweed comes off easily with each bite. At the end, they gave me a complimentary tamago and it was so good. It's pretty unique. Squishy, light, and sweet
Went here with the family. Was able to get a seat pretty quickly with 6 people in the party. We all ordered our food one by one. The hand rolls are made almost in front of you. Cooked food is made in the kitchen in the back. They serve you one hand roll at a time and make the next one once you finish your first one. To help space it out. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and had great flavor to them. The skewers (chicken and beef) were okay; it didn't come out hot off the grill; it felt like it was sitting on the table for 20 minutes because it was room temperature. The hand rolls were good and fresh but can add up since they don't really fill you up.
Got takeout from here for lunch and it was super tasty! I ordered the chicken karage bento with a toro roll on the side and everything was super fresh and well packaged. The karage bento had chicken karage, rice, brussel sprouts, dumplings and a piece of castella cake. The karage had a light and savory batter, the dumplings had a cripsy sear, and the brussel sprouts were super tasty with what tasted like eel sauce and Japanese mayo on top! The castella cake was the perfect little sweet treat for the end of my meal. (8.5/10) The toro roll was also delicious and fresh despite getting it take out. Definitely as good as any other sushi place I've tried on bellaire Blvd. (7/10)
I once went to a festival where Hando was offering samples. They had run out and had a limited amount of coins for a free roll on them. If you visited the store. This was years back, but when we showed up on Saturday they honored the token. So lunch date was a go We came in slightly after opening. If you haven't been, this is over off of Long point in a large parking lot with plenty of parking available. Walking in there were only two other couples dining around the bar. Our weight staff went through the menu and off menu items. They had some interesting options that I have not tried previously so we tried a little bit of errythang. I ordered one of their off menu appetizers, miso hummus with taro chips. Served cold, it has a citrus taste that pairs well with the small spice from the chili paste. It was fantastic and well worth the $4. She ordered the miso soup. A very tasty and rue-like broth, distinct flavors, heavier and more satisfying than your normal miso. Almost gumbo consistency, loved it. We started with your basic three-piece set. Spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab. You already know that both tuna and salmon are going to be amazing just because the fish by itself is amazing, especially when super fresh. Does it compete with my Pacific Northwest King Salmon, no. But I can't compare everything to that beautiful fish. These were all very fresh. Very tasty. The blue crab caught me off guard. Tasting fresh AF, a very good crab filled mouthful. I liked this more than I anticipated. We continued down the menu with Softshell Crab. With carrot and cucumber and an interesting spice mix in the black sesame aioli. Very tasty, surprisingly heavier than anticipated. Really liked it. We also ordered one of the off the menu rolls. This was a Toro roll with Texas peach and Pearl onion. There's a really interesting mix of flavors but it came out slightly sweet and very tasty. We did order a round of drinks. Sock It Ume highball, boozy with a hint of Citrus. Refreshingly strong. Everything's Lychee Keen. Also boozy, with Lychee twang. Overall our meal was fantastic! Service was excellent! Everybody was very courteous and super efficient. The facility was very clean and well organized. They served one roll at a time, and waited until we were done with the prior before making and serving the next. I did end up ordering another bowl of taro chips to finish the hummus. Hummus. It was a small added cost, but not a problem. Everything came out super fresh, and there was no waiting in between courses. Once they saw something was gone they worked on the next thing. It was also very nice to have the majority of the restaurant to ourselves, no crowd, very easy going lunch. If will definitely come back! read more
Went with some friends on a Saturday evening. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated immediately. I ordered the 3-piece hand roll set (spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab), a toro hand roll, salmon sashimi, and ribeye skewers. Everything tasted good, but the blue crab hand roll was my favorite. I also ordered sake, which paired well with the meal. They also served us a complimentary tamago at the end of our meal. It was delicious and a nice surprise! The hand rolls arrived at a good pace, not too fast or too slow, which gave me plenty of time to enjoy each one while still being able to hold conversations with my friends. The restaurant's interior is simple, clean, and minimally decorated. The service was great, and the staff checked on us frequently throughout our meal. Overall, I had a good dining experience here and would visit again! read more

This handroll bar has a beautiful interior with wooden accents and a very cool speakeasy, "Kanpai Club", inspired by Japanese subway stations. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the food very much. We ordered: - 3 piece hand roll set (spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab) - Toro hand roll - Yellowtaill hand roll - Ocean trout hand roll - Unagi hand roll - Soft shell crab hand roll - Flounder ceviche hand roll - Uni bite - Yellowtail sashimi - Salmon sashimi - Brussel sprouts - Beef skewers - Lamb skewers - Scallop skewers - Green mussel skewers - Match painkiller - Everything's lychee keen We didn't really like anything that we ordered. We also noticed that the quality wasn't consistent, one of my hand rolls tasted much worse than my partner's even though we ordered the same thing. I probably should have realized from the name that this place specializes in hand rolls, but after checking reviews and photos that showed traditional sushi, I expected a bit more variety. To our surprise, they only offer cut sushi for takeout--everything else is hand rolls served at the bar. We were seated right away (though we arrived around 5:30 PM), and the atmosphere was sleek and modern. Just be aware that it's a bar-only setup--there are no traditional tables. Service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and fast. We ordered two appetizers and two drinks. One of the drinks even came in a super cute fish-shaped glass, which was a fun touch. Overall, a great spot if you're specifically looking for hand rolls and a more casual, bar-style experience. read more
First time trying Hando today. Intimate and neat spot for dinner with a speakeasy in the back. They have a large menu with a variety of different item. The food came out very fast. I've had a amount of hand rolls however this place would be my least favorite. Unfortunately, my biggest concern was the rice wasn't up to par with other sushi rice that I've had other handroll places. Handies Douzo is much more better in my opinion. The bright side to this place is speed, cocktails, and complimentary cake. read more

A fun experience! Went for lunch on a weekday with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was mostly full. When you arrive, plenty of parking in the shopping center. You're directed to use the side door, which I didn't even know was there until I followed the arrows. My friend and I ordered some edamame, salmon kama (salmon cheek), and several hand rolls; the blue crab was one of our favorites! And the quality of all the food was top notch. This was my first trip to Hando and I am a fan of the bar concept; the entire restaurant is one large bar, which makes ordering and the service very seamless. As I saw in other reviews, they will only deliver one handroll at a time, but when they see you are ready, they will deliver your next one; you don't have to ask for it. read more
One of the best sushi places I've been to in a while. My friend wanted to get to dinner before getting drinks and she chose this place after hearing great reviews. We had a great experience here. Everything we tried was DELICIOUS. The drinks were STRONG and the food came out super fast. The service was also phenomenal. They had a speakeasy in the back which was a nice touch. I can eat five of the blue crab hand rolls. We came here for a late dinner and were seated right away. This is their second location and the space was bigger than the Heights location. Very modern and minimalistic interior. I opted for the 4 piece set but also wanted to add in the toro hand roll. The set comes with spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab, and fried oyster. The set option doesn't allow substitution so you can add in additional hand roll. I have always love the blue crab hand roll but the fried oyster was also really good. After 4 hand rolls, you will start getting full. I like that they give you a good amount of rice per hand roll so it doesn't overshadow the flavor. Service was friendly and quick. The seats are set up as bar style so may not be ideal for a group. They were nice to let us sit at the corner for our group of 6 so we could talk to each other. I'm glad Hando has opened in SB, it's a great addition. read more
Likes: In shopping center with lots of parking and other food options around. Small and intimate. Attentive staff. The chef stood right in front and as soon as I finished eating one roll, he put the next roll on my plate, while sushi rice was still nice and warm. Although the menu and options of rolls are not extensive, the items were tasty. Dislikes: Pricey for such small portions. Very, very cold inside. Bring a jacket and wear pants. The whole restaurant is one big bar, with bar stools which means if you're short, under 5'6, than you're feet are dangling the whole time. No likey! They have bag hooks, they should have also built in feet rests. read more

Last time I came here was for Kanpai Club (the speakeasy) in the back but I was finally able to try the restaurant. My friend and I came in during lunch time so we were able to try their lunch course menu which is $21 each. We both got the handroll set that consisted of Spicy Tuna, yellowtail, and salmon (there are two other options that are listed in the menu). I got the curry croquette for the small plate option and my friend got the matchstick salad. As for appetizers (separate from the Prix Fixe Lunch), we ordered the Salmon Kama. Initially we were worried that it wouldn't be enough but we were both quite full by the end so it's definitely worth! Although the matchstick salad is a nice refreshing start to the meal, the curry croquette is delicious- perfectly fried with the savory rich curry sauce that everyone loves. As for the handrolls, they were all delicious- the salmon roll was our favorite! Speaking of salmon, the salmon kama was fantastic too. I will say there are a lot of bones so do be careful if you order this but it's a great appetizer choice if you're craving more fish. Aside from the delicious meal, the ambiance inside is nicely set up and the service was fantastic! read more
Thrilled to have the second version of this restaurant in the neighborhood. If you've been to the Heights location, this is larger but with the same menu (obviously). Rolls, sides and Robata items are all good and recommended. Vegetarian options are sprinkled throughout for those wanting that choice. Tips: It's cold in here. Bring a jacket if you're susceptible. Also, don't skip on their attached bar Kanpai Club hidden behind a red door on the way to the bathroom. Tell JJ hello. read more
Came here for happy hour after getting off work. The inside decor is simple yet elegant. Very rectangular shape with a long bar set up in the middle and seating around the outside edge. The staff was very attentive and helpful and always prompted that it was happy hour and last call for happy hour to make sure we got our orders in. We ordered the hand roll sets and the chefs made the hand rolls at the perfect speed and interval. They waited to make your next hand roll when you have finished your current one. We ordered a bottle of the kunizakari nigori sake to split between the 2 of us which was a good amount ~100mL each. And then got the sweet gin music which had Roku gin, lime and habanero garnished with a large shishito pepper in a fun puffer fish mug. Bartender even made the fish dance when he served it to me. The extra mile! For happy hr apps, we ordered the wasabi shumai x2, curry croquette, and Geso karaage. All the apps were a great portion for sharing. The shumai was juicy and well seasoned and the wasabi flavor shined but wasn't too overpowering. The croquettes were a bit heavy for our liking but the katsu breading was on point. The Geso karaage (fried squid) was so flaky and delicious! Easily could have ordered another. For our entrees we both got the 4 piece and 5 piece hand roll set respectively. We both got a spicy tuna hand roll which was SPICY! Way more than the typical spicy tuna which we actually liked. Very bold flavor profile. The yellowtail and salmon hand rolls were our 2nd favorite. The rice held together well for dipping in the soy sauce and the seaweed wrap had the perfect crisp and crumbled perfectly with each bite. The blue crab roll was another great selection and didn't taste too salty. Then finished with a fried oyster and shrimp katsu hand roll. The shrimp katsu was my least favorite unfortunately. But overall an amazing meal and we can't wait to come back and try the rest of their hand rolls!! read more
I LOVE Hando! I used to go to the Heights location all the time - now I'll be here! It's right in my backyard. Service and the quality of the food is so good. Curated cocktail list and I think they have the best fish in Houston. My beef skewers were perfectly medium rare. This location is new and still in soft opening so they are still working out a few kinks but I plan to be a regular! read more

We went to the "secret" spot in the back for cocktails. The bartender was very attentive and asked us what are likes and dislikes were. He created amazing drinks for each of us including a non alcoholic whisky matcha. We will definitely return as the atmosphere is great. read more

I love hand rolls and always stop by a spot while in houston. this location is apparently newer and has a much larger space than the first location. it also happened to be restaurant week so my friend and I got the HRW lunch set which includes an appetizer and a 3 hand roll set. I got the potato croquette and the salmon, spicy tuna, and yellowtail set. everything was delicious and I was stuffed! the staff was so friendly and attentive. we came on a saturday for lunch and there wasn't a wait at all. read more
Came here for happy hour on a Friday night. The prices were really good for the drinks and apps. The seating is bar style and they bring the hand rolls out as they make them. We both got the 4 hand roll set which was a good deal. Everything was delicious, the apps were hot and fresh and the fish and really good too. Service was great they came by multiple times to fill our waters. Definitely a great spot for some hand rolls! read more

Service was fairly quick. Everyone was nice. You can't really sit where you'd like to though. They were not busy & we asked for the corner but it's set for 3 people. (Even though later we saw 2 people get seated there). We were told that they bring out one order item at a time to ensure quality. Glad our kids weren't with us, they would starve between their orders. The softshell crab hand roll should not be a hand roll. Most of the filling came right out (didn't help the person who served it accidentally dropped it over the side). The salmon sashimi was good & fresh but thin and 3 small slices. The beef skewers were good and flavorful. The chicken skewers, well, they weren't cooked completely. Only the end pieces were eaten. I did enjoy the potstickers. Perfectly cooked. Soft on one side and crunchy (not burnt) on the other. They did lacked seasoning so definitely use the sauce that comes with them. The martini was just okay. Stick to what is popular there and I'm sure you can't go wrong. Hubs enjoyed his drink and it came in a cute fish cup. Would I go back? Maybe for a light lunch but definitely not for dinner; portions are too small for me. read more
