The sushi burritos and beef bulgogi nachos we got from Sushioki in Durham were delicious. I recommend this place. Sushioki opened in February 2018 in the Food Lion shopping center on 55 (Apex Hwy) just off I-40 exit 278 (NC 55 to NC 54 - Apex). It looks like your typical strip mall sushi joint, but I think the food is above average. Like a lot of poke shops, the restaurant isn't very big and is set up in standard fast-casual fashion (order at the counter, open prep kitchen, self-serve fountain drinks, etc.). I suspect this business is Korean/Korean-American-owned because the menu features ingredients like bulgogi, daikon, and kimchi. At the time of our visit, the dining room was closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, there were four small tables right outside the entrance (eight seats) and they were covered. A sign displayed on the storefront said Sushioki won WRAL.com's 2018 Voters' Choice Awards for Best New Restaurant (2nd place) and Best Sushi Restaurant (2nd place). We visited around 5:45pm on a Saturday and business appeared good with a steady stream of both walk-in and pick-up customers. At least four employees were working: one server, two front kitchen staff, and one person in the back. Service was good. Despite the mini-rush, our walk-up order was ready in about 10 minutes. Here's what we got: * Beef Bulgogi Nachos ($8) - Korean marinated beef, deep-fried wonton strips, sauce, * Reel Alaskan Sushi Burrito ($12.75) - salmon tossed in housemade "G-sauce," lettuce, cilantro, masago, pickled red onion, and pickled daikon * R.D. Yoo Sushi Burrito ($11.50) - poke-marinated tuna, lettuce, cucumber, pickled red onion, pickled ginger, and cucumber wasabi sauce After seeing pictures of the "nachos" here on Yelp, I knew I had to try them. I put nachos in quotes because the nachos didn't actually consist of tortillas, but instead deep-fried wonton strips. Sure, it seems a little gimmicky, but it was actually quite yummy. Aside from the beef bulgogi (Korean marinated beef, usually ribeye, sirloin, or brisket), other ingredients in Sushioki's Beef Bulgogi Nachos included an orange sauce (my wife and I think it was spicy mayo or something similar), chopped cucumber, pickled red onion, scallions, and masago (fish eggs). The nachos were colorful and tasty. The fried wonton strips had that familiar crisp, crunch, and - for better or for worse - greasiness. If you end up coming here, I do suggest these nachos. While they're a little heavy (unhealthy), I don't think you'll be disappointed in the taste. The sushi burritos were dense, filling, and satisfying. What I liked most about them was the staff didn't skimp on the portions, especially the fish. Each burrito was packed with plenty of salmon and tuna. Generally, all of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful and the burritos were well-made. We preferred the Reel Alaskan over the R.D. Yoo for a couple reasons: (1) My wife and I both prefer raw salmon over raw tuna. (2) The R.D. Yoo was soggy. We've had our fair share of sushi burritos over the years and the R.D. Yoo was the first soggy one we've come across. I don't know if they put too much sauce or what, but the moisture had soaked through both the seaweed and paper wrapping. Obviously, this wasn't ideal. It caused bits of seaweed to peel off along with the paper wrapper. Aside from that and the R.D. Yoo being messy to eat as a result (it fell apart easily), it tasted good. Both burritos had a nice balance and combination of fillings. I think the "G-Sauce" in the Reel Alaskan burrito might've been the same sauce as the orange sauce on the bulgogi nachos (some sort of spicy aioli). The pickled daikon in the R.D. Yoo was a nice surprise because we haven't had that in a sushi burrito before. The chopped pieces of daikon were sweet and tangy. During our visit, Sushioki had three "raw" burritos ($11.50-12.75 each), eight "cooked" burritos ($10.00-12.75 each), and two vegan rolls ($9.75 each) on the menu. If you've never had a sushi burrito before, you can think of them as giant sushi rolls. At Sushioki, any burrito can be prepared as a salad or bowl, just like Chipotle. Other restaurant offerings include the aforementioned nachos, rice chips, toasted seaweed, pork rinds, kimchi slaw, and other Asian-inspired sides. Contrary to what the business name might have you believe, Sushioki does not serve traditional sushi (nigiri/sashimi) nor sushi rolls. One last note: The server offered us condiments (Kikkoman soy sauce and wasabi), eating utensils, and napkins when we picked up our order. I like how thoughtful they were about this, especially with the soy sauce and wasabi because a lot of sushi burrito places don't offer those unless you specifically request it. Payments are handled via Square. My itemized receipt was automatically emailed to me. We would gladly come back. read more

This is a great fast casual spot in RTP. It's pretty close off I-40 though there can be some traffic during lunchtime as this is a hub for fast food options. I don't know of many other places in the area that offer a sushi burrito (which I know has grown in popularity in larger cities such as in the Bay Area). The burritos are a lot of food and the menu offers a decent variety of raw fish or cooked options. Sushioki is hands down my favorite sushi burrito place in this area. I have not tried their sushi burrito bowl, but why else go for a bowl when you can get a burrito? The best dish from Sushioki in my opinion is Spicy Tuna Nachos. Just thinking about it waters my mouth! It's the most perfect combination of crunch nachos and fresh, juicy spicy tuna along with pickled onions and various toppings. The SAUCE! Whatever this sauce they marinate spicy tuna in is the bomb. No matter how many times I tried, it never ceases to amaze me. I would literally stop by at Sushioki for these nachos. Also, I've never seen a person who wasn't WOW-ed by Spicy Tuna Nachos, so you have to give it a try for the love of Yelp! Suhioki has a large selection of Sushi burrito, so you get to try something new in every visit. They also have a reward program and birthday perks, so make sure to sign up with your phone number/email when you place an order in person at the counter (from my pre-covid experience). Also, they have an app where you can order without having to talk to anyone. When you feel extra introverted and you don't want to talk to anyone but you need that nachos and burrito? Sushioki got you. When you order on the app, you can pick it up easily at the store - They have a pick-up desk by the entrance for Covid/social distancing. Prior to Covid, you were able to pick it up at the counter. You get to see number of reward points on the app so that you can cash that points by getting extra this and that with your order. This place is awesome! All of the options looked amazing so I had to ask the lady at the counter what she recommended and she did not steer me wrong! She recommended the Spicy Tuna roll which is raw tuna, avocado, tempura flakes and cucumber wrapped in rice in a seaweed sheet. I got the hibiscus green tea, which was delicious. I added some of the house made simple syrup and thought it was perfect. Additionally, they tempted me with a chocolate chunk cookie which I couldn't refuse and definitely didn't regret it! I came here with a friend and ordered real alaskan roll while my friend had the spicy tuna roll. Since it's cut nicely in half, we decided to swap our halves so we could try both rolls. I am absolutely smitten with their spicy tuna roll! However, truthfully neither of us were feeling the daikon in the real alaskan roll. The taste of the daikon was good by itself, but I'm not sure it fits quite right when eaten together. Although that was strange, I'm pretty satisfied with both rolls. Note that you're actually able to tell them to omit some items in your roll that you do not want. In particular, I really liked the service. The employees were really nice and made me feel welcomed. There are plenty of seats, including some outdoor seating. A friendly employee told us to stay as long as we liked - and we were there for quite some time already chatting up a storm. read more

WOW, how could such a great sushirrito place have existed for years without me ever knowing about it? I'm SO glad my friend found this place because their menu and their food--just delicious. Definitely left a good impression. The menu is probably one of the most impressive ones I've seen. I literally wanted to eat everything listed, but I eventually settled on ordering the Oh My Gahshi. Really delicious! I have to say, fried chicken in a sushi burrito is a bit heavy so I was full pretty quick. There was also a lot of sauce over everything, which is what you mostly tasted. The nachos were really good but I'd recommend asking for the chips to be in a separate container as by the time I got home about half of them were already soggy. The burrito was also really good, but I wish there was an option to "build your own" on their website. They do however allow you to modify what is on the menu, so if there is an ingredient you don't like, it can be ommitted. Still my favorite sushi place when I am in south Durham. I ordered the Crunchy Tofu roll. The tofu was fried to order back in the kitchen and it really did have a nice crust to the cubes. The rice is still seasoned the way true sushi should be, and the other fillings of pickled daikon and sauce contribute so much to the overall tastiness of the roll. We also go the oh my gashi (chicken katsu) and the crustacean sensation rolls. I wanted to love this place, I really did. There are tons of glowing reviews, so maybe it was just what I ordered or the day I went, but to me, Sushioki was decidedly average. I ordered a salmon bowl, but it wasn't anything special. There was a decent amount of salmon on it, but it was absolutely drowned in sauce and still lacked flavor. There are other options that looked really good, but I have a gluten allergy, so without confirmation from the staff that they could add ingredients without frying them or omit the soy sauce, I was really hesitant to take any risks. Since no one answered the phone, I ordered online, which was actually really easy. Curbside pickup was a breeze and very clearly labeled, so I'd recommend this for anyone! This business is an introvert's paradise when you walk in during the week at 2 pm! Easy to get to and located right off of 54 near the Chick-fil-A. Parking right in front of the building! Nice stop between the Southpoint exit off of I-40 and Raleigh. Portion sizes are EXTREME for the burrito style sushi. As a long distance runner I find it difficult to get full. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how HUGE my order was. The amount of protein and vegetables was enough to offset running into appetite problems later in the evening during my work shift. Service is friendly, cheery, and efficient. My interactions with the cashier and food preparator was enthusiastic about how full I would be by saying "hope you brought your appetite today". This restaurant is known for its large sushi burritos-about $12 each. I would describe it more like a poke bowl(pickled onions, fish, rice, and radish) wrapped in seaweed. I selected the salmon version. It was overall decent, but I had a hard time with the addition of onions in a sushi. Maybe, I selected the wrong dish for me. Their appetizers look tasty online. In addition, their owner I believe was very friendly and bubbly. The owner recommended the appetizers. The reason for one less star was the ambiance could be changed to give a more inviting. However, the nachos were surprisingly very tasty with a lot of flavor and brought me back for more! Awesome place! Fun, new concept, as they offer the burrito-style sushi roll. Good variety of proteins that you could include in your meal. The rice chips are delicious-cinnamon sugar is so sweet and delicious, it was perfect for a post-burrito finisher. The wasabi sauce in my roll (RD Yoo) was pretty heavy and definitely got me tearing for a few bites, but the flavors together were great. Very clean place too. Sushioki is a 5-star establishment in every way. The food is out of this world with amazing flavor and fantastic portions. The staff is always so welcoming and friendly and take their time to help you order. I have tried the bull by the beach and k pop burritos. Bull by the beach is my favorite so far and is filled with bulgogi and shrimp tempura. It just WORKS! K pop is also great and is a good option for those that don't love seafood- it has Korean chicken and crunchies. Don't miss the wonton nachos! Both are absolutely amazing. I was shocked by the amazing quality of the spicy tuna and the bulgogi is really flavorful. There's so many flavors and textures involved in these that all pair so beautifully together. The owners listen to feedback and have made menu changes over the years. It is a fast-casual restaurant, so you order at the counter and they call out your name. The ingredients and flavor combinations are good, and service is friendly. They also have a rewards program tied to your phone. When they opened, I read that they employed refugees (that is wonderful) but I don't know if that's still the case. They also seem to have live entertainment on some days and also support charities (I stopped in one day when they were donating proceeds to the Durham CROP Walk). They also do catering.
