I am going to preference this by saying the food at Sushin is or rather was amazing the last time I went before COVID. That being said I would not eat here or get takeout while COVID is still going on. I walked in the restaurant and was greeted by a waiter who did not have a mask on and looked to the left to see the sushi bar and neither of the two guys behind the counter were wearing masks. People were seated right on top of each other and it's a small place so ventilation is slim to none. There's no bento box worth getting COVID IMO. Take precautions, be safe out there y'all read more

Sushi was great! The owner was very friendly and helped my wife find options since she has some allergies. The fish was superb and the rolls were a good size. They have a good overall menu. The place has a 100 health score and you can tell by the food. The bathrooms are fair. The dining area is older but you can't beat the sushi in TN. read more

I cannot begin to explain how bad it was going here. All the seat were tore up and creaky. As a big girl I felt like one wrong move it would break. Drinks all tasted like soap and I mean it was so bad. I was with my mom and her best friend and they even couldn't drink the drinks. After asking for a second set of drinks, they still tasted like soap so we had to suck it up. We got are food and the server had no clue what are order was. They messed it up so bad that they accused us of trying to get more food when we got confused on sushi we got. The sushi was so bland and it was like they just didn't care at all. Not only that but an inspector was there!! Such horrible service on the most important day for them!! The bathroom was just god awful. Nothing was clean and everything was broken in some sort of way. It was so small that only one person could go at a time. They definitely don't clean it often. The atmosphere was just quiet and dull. No music at the time and barely anyone there and I can see why. Japanese is, without a doubt, my favorite variety of cuisine. Sushin is, without a doubt, the best Japanese restaurant I've been to in Tennessee. Period. The food is fantastic, the service is great, and the menu is spectacular. Their sushi is really good but I never order it. To me, that's not the main draw of this place. One can find good sushi in a lot of places now. What one cannot find so easily is the more traditional Japanese items offered at Sushin. By Japanese, I mean Japanese, not "Japanese", which is what I usually find in this part of the country. They have things such as onigiri, natto, cold soba, some of the best nabeyaki udon I've ever tasted, and countless other items that are uncommon to find in restaurants located in areas without a large Japanese population. If you love trying new things, you're bound to find something you haven't had before. If you want to experience actual Japanese food, and not the Americanized stuff that a lot of places try to pass off as Japanese food, I can't recommend Sushin highly enough. read more

A solid spot if you're craving some sushi! Came here on a week night and it was pretty much empty. Not sure how the weekends are like. And no stress, there's a private lot for parking. Let's get right to the food. For a starter, I got the Edamame, which was nicely seasoned and garlicky. Their Dragon Roll did not disappoint, it was quite tasty. The Yellowtail rolls came out to be tiny portions, it was good but really wish there was more of it. And you can never go wrong with sashimi, the salmon was delicious! Overall the variety of fish tasted fresh. Everything went along perfectly with the large bottle of hot sake! For a place called "Sushin" you would assume the Sushi would be great. We came for a weekday lunch. The sushi tasted so bland like the equivalent of getting from a grocery store. Sushi Chef came from behind the bar to sit down at a table and then returned to make food without washing his hands. This along with the price we were not impressed. Absolutely loved the food and the service! It's got a quiet calm atmosphere and the service is excellent. Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. They gave my friend's little sister special training chopsticks that she took home because she loved them. The green tea was fresh and really good. The food was amazing, and my friend had to take some of her udon soup home. The prices were less expensive than a lot of Japanese style restaurants that I've been to. The decorations were cute. This review is based on many, many visits. For many years, this was our "go to" sushi restaurant. We have been going there for over 15 years and love it. A few years ago, we went with some friends. Sushin knew one of our friends so well, they created and named a roll after him. It is called the William Roll and is not on the menu. I can't say exactly why we stopped going there. I believe it was the competition of other restaurants of all types. And, this place is "Across town". My adult son asked to go there for lunch today. He had many fond memories, and he and I had to remember where it was. Service and food quality have never wavered throughout the decades - always a treat. Today, I had a few pieces of sashimi and an udon bowl. The sashimi was excellent, as it has been dating back to the 1990's. The udon was a great slurp treat. As always food is fresh and very good. But as always no staff to truly care for their guest as they could to match the goodness of the food. Murfreesboro is a tough job market than it was in the past. I'm sure as their sign says help needed is a constant problem here and in most places own my by mom and pops. I've been to Sushin on two separate occassions and had two very different experiences. On my first experience, I was drawn there by the raving reviews given to me by my clients and co-workers as their favorite place to eat sushi. I was dissappointed when I received a loosely rolled spicy tuna roll and everything smelled more fishy than fresh. The service was okay, and we left there unimpressed. The only reason why I returned a second time was because Lemongrass was closed and my friend told me that Sushin was his favorite place. I was thinking, "What is it about this place that is so great?" I reluctantly went along. Despite my first experience, I ordered the same spicy tuna roll along with several other Nigiri rolls. They were much fresher and better made this time. My friend had me try a soup made with noodles, beef and vegetables served in a large pot. I don't remember what it was called, but it was delicious. I noticed the other patrons ordering more than just sushi. I guess that is the real key to this place - traditional Japanese dishes. For Murfreesboro, Sushin has pretty decent sushi, and a nice little sushi bar. The reputation must have got out, because when we went on a weeknight, it was packed in there. The shrimp tempura roll is good and big enough to have as a light meal or a big snack on its own. I remember the salad and soup being good too. The portions on the nigiri are big, almost too big; my smoked salmon was had a huge chunk on it, but it was nice and fresh. If I'm in Murfreesboro and want sushi, I go here. They have also been fortunate that a new strip of chain restaurants has magically appeared on their doorstep and that may have increased their business too. read more

So two things happened here: either I came to Sushin on a very off night, or I have much higher standards for sushi than every single other person who reviewed them. I will go with the former. It was later on a Tuesday night and the place was empty so we were seated promptly. We ordered some gyoza and miso which were definitely good, hard to mess up frozen potstickers and a soup that is likely from a mix. I ordered a Kirin Ichiban and was having a fine time chatting with my gal pal. Then "our" sushi came out and things took a turn for the worst. We ordered 3 rolls (cant remember what they were) and a few rolls came out that were 100% not what we ordered. We told the waiter we got the wrong rolls and he acted totally bewildered that the rolls sitting in front of us werent what we ordered. I was a bit bewildered that we were his ONLY table and something managed to go wrong. So we send these mystery rolls back and after a short wait 3 more rolls come out to our table. These ones were wrong again! Maybe the sushi chefs didn't know the menu? Maybe our order got mixed up with a different invisible table? I have no idea but at this point we were starving and decided to just let it go because there was clearly a disconnect somewhere. We had no idea what the rolls were or what was in them- and I don't really care to know because they weren't very good. Nothing about the rolls was flavorful or fresh. We reluctantly ate them and I probably would not go back. A real bummer because this place has a lot of good hype! read more
