To be honest, I was surprised by the quality of the sushi from the rave reviews. It's pretty mediocre sushi -- not bad quality for fish considering it is Arizona, but the rice wasn't the best. But I also guess this is the quality you get for happy hour sushi. Came with a group of four and were seated immediately. We all got drinks for their happy hour and shared calamari. Their calamari was a little different from other places, but would recommend getting! For drinks, I got a sinful geisha. Definitely a good choice for people who do not like the taste of hard alcohol, and I am definitely one of those people. Basically tastes like juice! read more

Was super busy but got a table fast after adding myself to the wait-list on Yelp. Thanks Yelp. Walked in and it was loud af. Thought it was gonna be whatev...that people were there for the vibe, not the sushi. But the sushi, bruuuhhh. It was SO good! Placed an order, slammed it. So my crab puffs didn't have much cream cheese and I was not fond of the sweet n sour. Miso was just ok. Overall the experience of the meal was pretty ok. We had the guilty pleasure and rainbow... But their ginger was fantastic from this place! read more

Stumbled upon this place for lunch and boy and I glad we did! Sushi lunch special? Check! A mix of sushi and lunch? Double check! Walked in, the place is clean and well kept. We were greeted and sat quickly. Looking at the extensive lunch menu I was so excited! I ordered the bento box that came with a bunch of different options! I chose pork gyoza, chicken teriyaki, and a tootsie roll. Holy food! What choices, and it was all delicious! With it being such an affordable deal, I was skeptical on the quality, but it was really good quality and fresh tasting! Iris was our waitress and she was lovely! I came in on a Thursday afternoon to grab a quick bite. I was seated immediately. I sat down, ordered my food, ate, paid, & left all under 30 minutes. Perfect timing if you don't have much time to eat. The sushi itself was pretty good. It didn't blow me away but was still very satisfying. Happy hour! We didn't want to drive downtown, so for sushi night, Nicole H. recommended Sushiholic for reasonably priced rolls on happy hour. Wow, I stuffed myself with great tasting sushi and a big variety of rolls. Two crunchy ones were my favs. Nicole H. took charge of the ordering (a feast fit for a king), so I'm not exactly sure of everything that I ate, but it was all delish. read more

This is the standard for me for reasonably-priced sushi in the Valley. I've tried most of the sashimi items, very few of the rolls only because I'm not a fan of rolls..too much "stuff" on or in them. Give me fish and rice and I'm a happy camper. So let's get to the basics: Seating is great if you're seated at the center tables. They also have 1/2 booths that are easily accessible for smaller bodies. Large bodies like mine will do well seated at a chair. This will prevent squeezing through the small space between tables which means my butt is sliding across the table behind me and my stomach is grazing the table in front. Now to the food: I always begin my meal with miso soup and add a couple of lemon slices. I love the simplicity of this soup and the sour from the lemons make me sing. The Happy Hour items range from rolls to sashimi, and if you go before 2p there's an awesome bento box lunch. My go to dish is the Unagi Eel with sauce on the side. Unfortunately this is not on the HH menu but there is a 2-pc HH for $5.50 if I'm feeling pecky, which I'm NEVER! Service is always efficient and friendly, it gets crowded early but usually a lull around 3-5. If you want high end, pricey sushi, try Roka Akor. If you're looking for great sushi, here's where you should be. Enjoy yourselves! read more

They have happy hour from 2PM until closing! I came on memorial day and was surprised that they were open until 11PM. There is plenty of parking space in their lot. The restaurant is divided into 2 sections. Both the left and right walls have a cool and modern mural that give it a sleek city-feel. The place is fragrant with sushi scent! I tried the tuna lover's specialty roll, poke salad, fried rice, shrimp tempura, and some of my uncle's Sushiholic combination. Now, most people wouldn't expect fried rice from a Japanese place that specializes in sushi would be that interesting but it was hands-down one of my favorite dishes! My dad had recently come back from Japan and was honestly a little tired of eating sushi so he opted for this unconventional menu item and shared it with me. It was really delicious and well-made with a variety of vegetables. My 2nd favorite dish was the tuna lover's roll that had a small slice of jalapeno on top. Outside of sushi, they also have ramen and udon. My aunt had the ramen and thought it was pretty good. The presentation is beautiful and the ambience is definitely a little more upscale. They have a lot of fun cocktails and sake options. They also have sake bombs. This is 1 of their 3 locations. When you order, you're given a dry erase marker so you can mark everything you want. The shrimp tempura I had was good and lightly fried. I would have enjoyed if it was a tiny bit crispier. The poke salad had fresh avocado, three types of fish, seaweed salad and some nice cucumber slices that were dressed with a light and slightly acidic dressing. Still love this place, but their menu has changed since covid (understandable) and currently all of their rolls are a minor variation of each other- switch around the filling and the fish topping and voila-brand new roll, it's a bit redundant. I hope they go back to their previous menu with more interesting sushi options and get more creative with their rolls. read more

They have so many reviews but I feel something is missing from them and their website. They serve nice wines (photo included), and the prices, especially for happy hour, are great. The sushi and other options are great. But I have a difficult time getting my wife to go to sushi restaurants because their house wines, and wines, usually are less than desirable. This place has delicious sushi! Great customer service, cute little environment. My only complaint about this place is the parking lot. If you don't go before a dinner or weekend rush, you won't find a partaking spot. It's an extremely congested area. Went here with my parents, who are sushi beginners. I usually just order for them and they're happy. However, today we went here because of the reviews and had the most fantastic experience. Sep was our server... you can tell he truly enjoys his job, has passion for food, and cares for his guests to have a good experience. The food was absolutely outstanding, fresh fish and exceptional flavors, but Sep made the experience so much better as he recommended his concoctions and gave us insight on different rolls to choose. Recently moved to the PHX area and if you know me, you know I love deals. I was excited to try this place out for their happy hour options. We arrived in time for their reverse happy hour and was served quickly. The waitress took our orders and the food came out really fast which was great. No one wants to be around a hangry Casey. I had the miso soup, seaweed salad, shrimp shu mai and one of their rolls. Miso soup - okay - nothing special Seaweed salad - okay - nothing special Shrimp shu mai - terrible - don't order this, it tasted doughy and didn't have very much flavor at all. Sushi is always fresh. Clean smelling inside the restaurant. Tunacado spoons come with thick diced tuna. Specialty rolls like Snow White and First Love are always on point. It's hard to justify eating sushi anywhere else after eating here. Sushiholic has happy hour from 2pm until closing, UNTIL CLOSING. Me and a couple friends came here and got 5 spicy tuna, a 911 roll, salmon roll, California roll, gyoza, and a cucumber salad, all for less than $100. This place is beyond affordable. There's not much to say about the food as it was all delicious except that the 911 roll was insane. It was a spicy tuna roll deep fried and slathered in eel sauce and spicy mayo, with jalapeño. I highly recommend it. Their service is quick and kind, and the atmosphere feels great. Perfect spot for a date! read more

Hands down the best service and sushi I have ever had!! The restaurant was in fantastic condition. Clean, great music and over all amazing vibe!!! All of the wait staff where nice and prompt. Our main waiter was the manager and he was so chill, funny and recommended the most AMAZING sushi!! I will say I was pleased when eating here. The spicy garlic edamame and the miso were pretty delicious. The shrimp in the rolls tasted so fresh. I will say the Vegas roll was good but I feel like it was missing something. The customer service was really good. Overall this place was definitely a spot you should try out. read more

Since they're the sister store to Sushi Vibe. They are similar that they have great sushi at a great price. Of course there could be bette sushi in the city but that usually means paying about double of what you're spending here. Service is very knowledgeable and the spot is great for date nights. This is a great place to get a wide assortment of sushi options. Lots of space and a great vibe. I get take out from here quite often and I've never had any issues. It's in a great area, very central to the Arcadia neighborhood. My personal favorite is The Vegas Roll and I get a Philly roll just about everywhere I go. Make sure to try something else on the menu that isn't sushi, this place does everything well. Great for late night sushi, never dissapoints. read more

Our bartender gave some great suggestions, as it was my first visit. And we unknowingly came in during happy hour, WIN. I had the watermelon sake and my friend had the thaigers blood. For food we ordered the charred shishitos(the dipping sauce is SO GOOD), scallop crispy rice, maki, and the gyoza. I was thoroughly impressed and cannot wait to return.

Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.
