This is a really nice sushi restaurant that is only 2 minute walk from my place. I wonder why I never noticed it before. The sushi I had was perfectly made and the waiter was very friendly and the ambiance of the place was excellent. I may come back here again sometime. If I can give them 10 stars I would.

Final days of the long and illustrious reign of Hideko, Giuseppe and Yoshi. Last night is 7/27 (don't worry, the new sushi chef is a twenty year vet and training alongside Yoshi as we speak). Thank you all for two plus decades of making Sushi Zone my favorite sushi spot in SF.

Found a hidden gem in an alley. It was a chilly night so I decided to get some warm sake to warm me up. The area is a bit quiet but definitely worth visiting. Everything we ordered with delicious and fish was very fresh. Food highlights -Toro Toro roll - 5/5 This was my fave roll. Buttery toro with seared salmon on top. Can't ask for a better bite. -Spicy mango salmon - 4/5 not really spicy but a great roll with the hint of sweetness from the mango -Volcano - 4/5 crisp tempura crunch with spicy tuna -Walu sashimi - 5/5 this was very thickly sliced and rich. Melted in my mouth delicious. Sake avocado tartar - 4/5 solid appetizer with fresh salmon and avocado mixed in round mold. Baked bass 4/5 creamy mixture that had a nice texture from the mango and fish Stuffed jalapeno 4/5 it had nice kick with a fish mixture Ambiance Some bar seating at the chefs table and a few tables inside as well as outside. A smaller family owned sushi spot where you can get some excellent quality fish and a reasonable price. Service Staff were attentive, friendly and checked in at appropriate times. Overall I can't wait to come back to try more of the menu!

Yay they are finally open again. I work nearby and used to come here under the old management. They were closed I think for 1-2 week after the old owners retired. I was by myself and I already had dinner so I got Sashimi plate because I couldn't eat too much. Man I just wanna say the fish was prepared really well. Extra smelly liquid were extracted and the texture was very nice. Not in a fancy location or anything but will be my to-go spot again when I feel like sushi! I think they added new rolls as the new sushi chef has worked for 20 years before finally opening his shop and added his twists.

One of my favorite sushi spots in SF. The baked appetizers are great but kinda expensive. The service is top notch, and the ambiance is homey/hole in wall vibes. Would recommend the Taro Taro roll.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while -- pleasantly surprised by the quality and service! Salmon tartare and baked mussels had to be my favorite out of all the dishes we ordered. Salmon tartare was exceptionally fresh. Baked mussels were recommended by the chef and I'm so glad we got it! Not too fishy and creamy in a tasteful way. I'd skip the Hawaiian rolls and order more of salmon tartare instead! Service and ambiance were good too. Place is small but not too loud. Definitely coming back.

The best sushi restaurant I've been ever tried before. Their service is really good and the waiter is really helpful. Baked mussels are my favorite ever. Yum yum

this is a great sushi spot in the city! I love the Hawaiian aesthetic in the restaurant and how they incorporate fruits like mango into the sushi. The mango is clearly really fresh and add extra tanginess to the sushi. Their baked mussels were also the most delicious baked seafood I've had. Service was great and the only reason I would give it four out of five is because it is still pricey. Most sushi in the city is pricey though.

Wow, this place is so tiny and not your typical SF omakase style place. But, what they make up in size is delicious and fresh sushi that is affordable, filling, and top notch. We always get the same things but everything on the menu is amazing. The must gets are the baked mussels appetizers, Hawaiian Rolls (#2 is best), and spicy hamachi roll. The last is one of the best rolls I've ever eaten (the lime zest is the secret!!). Wonderful staff, very professional chefs, and fair wait list (if you're on the list before close you will be served). Definitely one of the best sushi spots in SF and the best if you're looking for value and quality!

4/5 for me Small mom and pop sushi restaurant with great service and high quality fish. We didn't, but I would try to sit at the bar if you can. It looked like a lot of regulars sat there and would routinely chat with who I presumed to be the owners. What stood out to me were the baked dishes and the use of mangos in some of their rolls. I wouldn't skip out on the baked dishes, they are different than your typical and very hearty. I like the use of mangos in rolls and thought it complimented the dishes well.

This sushi place is a hidden gem. After being let down by numerous places in the city, this place finally satisfies the sushi quality I have been searching for. A quaint, hole in the wall place with Japanese chef + workers = fresh fish, perfectly textured sushi rice, and a happy me. Lovely service as well. It's not over the top like overrated sushi fusion places with the yucky added cream cheese in the rolls; no, Sushi Zone is traditional and does it right. We got the spicy mango salmon roll, an assortment of nigiri, and the Hamachi Kama. Everything was delicious and well done. That's how you know a Japanese restaurant is truly authentic; all of their dishes are yummy. Will be coming back here many times and bringing family + friends :) thank you! Ps: also very affordable for the amazing quality! Fed 3 people with drinks until we were quite full for $100

The first time I came here, I got the strawberry matcha latte with my friends. We ordered it via delivery on DoorDash, and I'm not sure if it's just the whole delivery part, but I could not taste any part of the strawberry! It just tasted like regular cream on top. Typically I'm more of a coffee person than matcha, so I'm not a great judge in whether this was good matcha or not. But I guess it did taste ok in my opinion. The funny thing is, my coworker also said the same thing when she ordered the strawberry matcha latte a separate time! Disappointing. A separate time, we also ordered from them via delivery. This time I was eager to try their food items instead, since they have a pretty interesting selection, like those cake sandwiches and various Japanese items. I got the spam masubi, which I thought would be a solid choice. It did arrive warm, but the slice of spam that was in the masubi was so thin! It was the thinnest piece of spam I had ever gotten, and I've gotten spam masubis at a variety of places including ABC stores and other places in Hawaii, and even various stores in the States. The rice was okay, some brown rice thing with seasoning, that was decent but not my preferred white rice. Overall my two times here have been disappointing. I will really never line up for this place in person, nor will I understand why people do.

What we ordered: + San Ten Mori (assorted sashimi) [4/5]: The highlight of our meal was the yuzu wasabi that came with the salmon + amberjack in this set. It was sooo delicious and spicy. The fish were plated beautifully, and the quality was pretty good. + Shungiku Kama Sarada (chrysanthemum greens & duck breast) [6/5 - would recommend]: WOW. I was so pleasantly surprised by how fresh, crunchy, and acidic this salad was. The greens are amazing. On top of that, the duck breast was so tender and delicious-- I just wish the dish came with a few more slices. + Chicken Oyster [4/5]: I really loved how juicy this was. I normally don't like chicken because of how dry it is, but this was a great skewer. I wish the skin was a little less burnt. The chicken was also so thick that while the outside was juicy, the inside was a little drier. + King Trumpet [4/5]: Wow! These looked amazing when they arrived. I thought the flavor was great but the texture was a bit rubbery. + Kama Tama Udon (carbonara) [4.5/5]: Delicious! I couldn't stop eating this udon slathered in amazing thick sauce. + Chiizu Tori Katsu [4/5]: This was sooo good. I wish the cheese ratio was 3x as much, but the flavor and tenderness of the katsu is delicious. The chicken karaage was also pretty good and came with a delicious spicy mayo, though the chicken wasn't as warm as I'd hoped. Yaki onigiri was good as well, the soy sauce flavored rice had good flavor but I personally would've preferred a filling inside. Original mushroom potstickers and katsu curry rice were both skips from me. The potstickers didn't have that much flavor to me, and they were really flimsy and fell apart upon picking up. I had higher expectations for the katsu curry rice as well but maybe it was an off day, as the chicken was dry and stringy and the curry didn't have the classic rich/deep flavor I was expecting. Overall glad I got to try Bon, Nene once! Definitely worth trying the mentaiko spaghetti here.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

WOW!!! That's it,…read morethat's the review. No, but in all seriousness, I visited Kusakabe for the 18 course Omakase (my first) and it was such a fantastic experience. Our server was so attentive and thoughtful and really helped make the entire experience so much fun. This was also some of - if not the best - sushi I have ever had. Everything was extremely fresh and the fish melted like butter in my mouth. Every course was extremely flavorful and just truly deliberate; there was a story behind everything. They also have a really great sake list and our server recommended delicious pairings that went well with each course. I genuinely cannot wait to go back and experience another Omakase here!
