Outside house special

More affordable rolls than some other places in the area. I like how it's run by 2 guys (and occasionally one of their wives.) It's homey, cozy, and intimate. Cool art on the wall and great service. Rolls were good--we enjoyed the Buddhilicious ($17.99), Dragon ($16.99), and Lion King ($16.99). Would go back.

Solid, affordable spot for when you crave rolls. Sexy me roll is my favorite, very sexy. Everything was fresh and good. Nice and friendly service, clean bathroom, and casual ambiance. What else is there to ask for?

Cute small hidden sushi spot! The lighting gave such a cute and nice touch to the interior. Sushi came out quick and service was excellent!

Excellent quality sushi. Very fresh selection. The staff was wonderful and this was a nice, cozy spot for dinner. Will be back!

Came here after doing the hot cold plunge nearby! Good: - Cute ambiance, and clean interior - The miso soup was incredibly tasty and seaweed salad was fresh too - The sushi rolls were tasty - I liked the dragon roll the best, the tempura was crunchy and the buddhilicious was good too! Not as good as dragon though - The amount of food you get for the cost is good. Bad: - Took a while for our sushi to get to us (20-30 min wait) so it felt a little long - The staff don't check in too often with us Overall it was a decent sushi experience, not sure that I'd come again.

This was such a cute date night spot! The rolls and nigiri were so fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a more lowkey vibe!

As a sushi lover. I love going to this hidden gem. I usually order for starter the sashimi platter and move to nigiri yellow tail or albacore. Of course with ice cold Sapporo beer. Chef Buddi is like a family to me that I paid to visit his sushi restaurant whenever I visit San Francisco on a long weekend. I love supporting mom and pop business owners and I highly recommend this place.

Jade Dragon (vegetarian roll)

My partner is vegetarian and had the Jade Dragon Roll, while I tried the Dragon Roll and Spicy Avocado Roll. Everything was absolutely delicious and surprisingly filling. The chef's work is incredibly intricate and artisanal -- you can really see the amount of effort and precision that goes into making each sushi roll perfect. The food and service were both amazing, and we'll definitely be coming back!

Started out with miso soup very tasty not too long to come to table from ordering always a plus. Both rolls having been brought the table. They're excellent. They taste lovely and they remind me why I come to this place. I will tell you they are very good but they are also very much so if you come in hungry, don't be upset you have to wear one doing a really good jobeverybody has.

I had high expectations for this place after reading the reviews. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I found the quality of fish to be okay. The rolls were tasty but nothing amazing. Service was a little slow but the servers were very polite and attentive. The tuna tataki was delicious!

The Shoji burger tasted like a soggy, cheesy burger, and nothing about it really stood out. The pork jowl was interesting, especially with all the fancy kimchi and thoughtfully paired ingredients. You can definitely tell a lot of thought and effort went into creating this dish, but unfortunately, it just didn't wow me. Last but not least, the chicken sando was probably the biggest disappointment. It was bland and nothing special. Surprisingly, the fries with aioli were probably my favorite part of the entire meal! Service was just alright. The servers spoke super fast when explaining the dishes, almost like they were reciting the same script over and over. It felt a little robotic and lacked enthusiasm. I can't comment on the drinks since we didn't order any, but they definitely looked fancy and beautifully presented. To top it off, this place was SUPER pricey for what we got. We actually walked over to The Bird afterward, and their chicken sandwich was so much better! I really wanted to like this place, especially with all the hype and creativity behind the menu, but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. For the price, I expected a lot more in terms of flavor.

The place fills up around 6pm so arriving ahead of that will save you a wait. They don't take reservations, so first come first served. The ordering experience is really smooth. Everything is done through an iPad at your table and the food comes out to you. They won't let you place a new order until your previous one has been delivered, which honestly is a smart system and helps with pacing so you don't over order right out of the gate. What sets this place apart from other AYCE spots is the variety. It's not just sushi. You can also order appetizers, salmon, teriyaki chicken and more, so there's something for people who want to mix it up beyond rolls. Delicious, easy, affordable and in the neighborhood. The ambiance was really nice outdoors, nice lighting and cute for a summer night. Every dish felt intentional and was executed well both presentation and taste, it's a great way to try different dishes all at once, and I will definitely be back to try more à la carte items. My favorite was the sashimi, katsu, and hojicha panna cotta. The cocktails (Ichigo and some other one) were not as memorable, although the option sake pairing looked interesting for those who enjoy! Service was also impeccable, they even served us complimentary sparkling wine for our special day! :) I would say this is semi formal vibe, and 100% need reservations on weekend.

After noticing Rintaro on quite a few "Top Restaurants in…read moreSF"-sort of lists, we had to give it a try. Initially, we were expecting a purely upscale vibe, but it actually threads the needle quite well between high-end and casual. The portions are somewhat tapas style, so we ordered multiple dishes. Everything was good! They seem to be able to execute simple dishes VERY well. The varieties of yakimono and the house-made tofu were particularly special. Our waitress made some great suggestions and got the amount of food right for our party. I would recommend going out of your way to try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Everything I had here was great, and the servers are really kind and welcoming despite it being busy. You may have to share a large table if you're a larger party because it's a pretty small place. Portions are a bit small, but filling because of the content. we got the: - chicken karaage - a typical karaage, nothing much to note - takoyaki - this was really good, outer shell was crunchy, batter inside was soft with a small piece of octopus - champignon pasta - it was good, noodles itself were more on the dry side, but were still packed with clean, savory and hint of seafoody flavors on top - mentaiko spaghetti - very cheesy and buttery noodles, my favorite of the night - maguro bowl looked a bit heavy on the rice and drinks - - sangria with seasonal fruits - it was definitely pretty strong sangria, also a big pour in a glass container - yuzu cocktails - pretty light, it was more sugary to me we also wanted to try their dessert of the day, but sadly it sold out. I would definitely come back again if I'm in the area!

Overall, the quantity of food made it feel like a very reasonable value for high-end dining in San Francisco, and I would definitely return. The Courses & Food - Edamame Surinagashi (Silky Edamame Dashi soup with deep-sea red crab and caviar): Unfortunately, this first soup was a bit of a miss for me. It felt bland and needed salt; I was hoping the caviar would bring a pop of saltiness, but I couldn't taste it. - Otsumami (Seven kinds of seasonal Japanese appetizers): Served on a beautiful tray that I wished I could take home! Highlights included a squid dish in a savory black soup liquid that was so delicious I drank every last drop. The egg roll avocado bite was also fantastic--warm, crisp, and savory. However, the wagyu piece on the tray was quite dry, and while everyone else enjoyed their toro, mine came out noticeably stringy. - Four kinds of Sushi: These nigiri courses were phenomenal--even as someone who isn't a huge fan of wasabi, I devoured every piece. Highlights like the toro, eel, and amberjack were all outstanding. - Wanmono "Hamo Shinjo Soup" (Delicate Japanese pike eel "Hamo" dumpling in clear umami dashi soup): The fish cake dumpling soup had good flavor, though by this point I was starting to get full and couldn't finish the broth. - Four kinds of Sushi: Continued the streak of incredible nigiri bites. Mains Choice (A5 Oita Wagyu vs. Mehikari Kara-age): We split the two options across our party. The Mehikari Kara-age (shiny green-eyed fish fried crispy) was about 6 inches long, similar to a large sardine, but very meaty. It was battered and fried to absolute perfection--light, crispy, and paired with an amazing seasoning salt. WOW. - The A5 Oita Wagyu blew the previous wagyu appetizer completely out of the water. Both mains were on the smaller side, but given the total volume across 18 courses, we left completely full. - Four kinds of Sushi: The final sushi round was incredible. Surprisingly, my favorite bite wasn't a standard fish maki, but the uni--and I don't even normally like uni! Miso Soup & Sweets: A solid, comforting end to the meal. Service & Experience The staff was warm, welcoming, and polite throughout the evening. However, there were a few minor operational hiccups for a restaurant of this caliber: champagne was initially served in the wrong glassware, and a couple of dishes were placed on the table oriented backward. More noticeably, one of our main courses was delayed by about 10 minutes after everyone else's arrived, leaving our table in an awkward spot wondering whether to start eating or wait. Despite those small missteps, the service was genuinely friendly, the food was extremely generous for 18 courses at $210, and we had a great overall evening.
