Although the tempura I ordered was excellent, the unagi rolls were filled with bones. The tom yum soup was mostly water. Ten dollars is a lot to pay for lightly flavored water with a few veggies. They had a couple of issues delaying the delivery, however were very nice on the phone and the delivery guy was very nice. These things happen. The spicy tuna was really good, spicier and more flavorful than most. The unagi was decent, and the spicy scallop was alright. The thai tofu was crispy upon delivery and the sauce was amazing. The tempura was big, crispy, and hot when it arrived as well. The sauce was not sweet enough, compared to other restaurants. All the food was so well presented, especially for a delivery order. I have yet to see that. The pricing is high, but the quality makes it quite fair. 4/5 instead of 5/5 because it was 70 minutes to be delivered, price point, and 2 rolls were not something to be noted for. Haven't had sushi in over year, new to the area and was in the search for a decent Sushi place. Sushi Time popped up and decided to give it a try. This restaurant is pretty small and hard to miss. Free parking all around on the street or in a parking garage. Upon entering you see that there isn't much space in the dining room. A few tables and the sushi bar. Once inside you are greeted and sat down. I had my infant son with me and all the tables were full and se we got sat at the sushi bar. Disappointingly you cannot see what the chefs are making due to the glass being covered. There wasnt too much wait to get our order taken, just enough time to look over the menu and decide what to eat. I ordered the Crunchy Roll and the Shrimp Mango roll, the wife ordered the Mexican Roll and Shrimp Tempura roll. Food came in under 5 minutes which is good. Presentation for the plates looked good. Rolls where displayed nicely. Taste was delightful. Everything was fresh. All the ingredients worked together nicely. Nothing was off tasting, no sourness, bitterness or foul smells. My favorite sushi place in downtown Elmhurst, and there are many. This is the best as far as quality, creativity, flavor, and price. Only gripe is they close from 3:00-4:00, and those are flexible times. I once ordered a to-go order and arrived at 2:55pm to find the doors locked. I had to wait until they reopened to have lunch (I know, first world problems). GOOD, CHEAP SUSHI..... Chicago has no shortage of Japanese sushi restaurants, so when my friend noticed that a new sushi joint had officially opened up in her town of Elmhurst, she was super fain! We decided to hit up Sushi Time for lunch on March 30. If you've got a taste for typical sushi, from spicy tuna to spicy salmon to the tekka and dragon rolls, this Elmhurst sushi spot is your jam. You are not going to experience the more high-end sushi with black rice, quail egg, marinated salmon roe or monkfish here. Instead, what you will experience are basic sushi rolls. For example, California, salmon, yellow tail, spicy tuna, sweet potato, spicy salmon or spicy yellow rolls. The fish here perfectly complements this downtown suburbanite surrounding. Our rolls shimmered with freshness and delectable flavors. We ended up spending under $25 for good, cheap sushi. For wine pairings that complement sushi beautifully, my recommendations are a bold and spicy Viognier or Gewürztraminer (these two will cleanse your palate nicely if you decide to add Wasabi to your sushi). Also, try Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and sparkling wines or even a bottle of champagne! For any pink fish, such as, salmon based sushi, pair it with a good, dry German Riesling or any earthy red wines, like a Burgundy, Beaujolais or Pinot Noir. Many wines pair well with sushi, but many do not. Don't be afraid to experiment with wine and try some different wines. Enjoy being a real wine risk taker! The rolls are packed with decent quality ingredients and are also great for sharing, which we did. The presentation was gorgeous, but not terribly creative. Their lunch specials range from $4.95 to 10 bucks. These sushi rolls are tasty enough to sate you. It's not easy to get inventive with vegetarian sushi, but the Sushi Chef here figured out how to jazz up their rolls without the fish. There are several veggie-friendly options at Sushi Time. I am not vegetarian, but tried a few of these options. You can also request sushi without the fish. The vegetarian rolls we tried were the kappa and avocado rolls, which were taken up a notch with the infusion of the Japanese horseradish otherwise known as Wasabi. It was nice to be inculcated into the cult of sushi once again, since I do enjoy these tiny ethereal morsels. Sushi Time has large glass windows allowing the sunshine to brighten up its modern interior. It has clean lines with bright, cheerful colors in a tight, minimalist space. But the mind-blowing Fire & Ice salad served here is well worth the cramped quarters. Five stars for this salad. I cannot say that the sushi rolls here are on par with the city's higher-end offerings that I have personally experienced, but the sushi rolls had fresh, quality ingredients infused with great flavors. This low-key sushi eatery draws in neighborhood locals, people who work nearby, and sushi connoisseurs alike, serving super-fresh rolls at a reasonable cost. BTW, do not attempt to visit Sushi Time while hungover -- aside from the fact that raw fish is death to the whiskey-battered tummy, but the sunshine streaming through the large glass windows in this joint can hurt your eyes (remember to keep your shades on at all times). Sushi Time elevated our discussion on this cult-ish oceanic delicacy and created a worthy destination for the City's sushi lovers, like yours truly, and will do the same for the notoriously prickly bunch. It was lunch time and the place was not crowded or overly busy. It was quiet. This is a great spot for meeting up with a friend for a catch-up session. My final rating is 4-stars, because service was lackadaisical. We appreciated their ebullient philoxenia though. The sushi that we ordered is 4-star worthy, but the price point is worthy of 5-stars. I would not make a special trip back to Sushi Time, but if I am ever in the area, I would hit it up again. read more

I sure do miss eating sushi in Shinjuku! Nestled in the downtown Elmhurst, this small restaurant has pretty awesome pricing on their specials. Went here for Sunday lunch since Chicago was having the annual marathon and there is no way I'm gonna try to get to the city in reasonable time. Ordered the sushi delux and the sashimi dinner which was plenty for 2 people. Presented beautifully and the portion was pretty big also. Reasonably priced and good quality. Soooooo...in Elmhurst this is your best sushi bet. It is better than Wok n Fire, Sushi Nest, and Sakana. (Why ARE there so many sushi places within walking distance of each other? Not sure if that's good for business or not). I wouldn't say it's my favorite sushi place for regular old maki rolls (compared to other NON Elmhurst sushi joints) BUT the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail here were certainly decent and spicy (which most places can't handle). The good: 1. Service and prices are great. 2. Fish is fresh, rolls are decently sized, and the spicy rolls are not completely mushy mayo messes (also spicy is actually kind of spicy). 3. Miso soup was good...and complementary! The bad: 1. The rice is kind of hard. 2. The spicy rolls all came with crunch. I would definitely ask for the rolls without that addition next time. 3. The yellowtail was forgettable. The restaurant is also pretty small but it seems like they do a decent sushi bar and takeout business. Terribly disappointing! This place has great reviews so I was really surprised when the food wasn't good! My cousin and I went in on a Saturday night for dinner and ordered a couple of sushi rolls and some fried rice. The sushi was just terrible! The quality of the fish and everything else was fine, but my goodness, everything was ridiculously salty. We each took 1 piece of each roll we ordered and couldn't eat it beyond that. They also used imitation crab meat on one of the rolls while the menu doesn't indicate it would be imitation - not cool. We ended up eating the fried rice which was much better than the sushi, but it wasn't even amazing fried rice. I'm not in this area too often, but with there being a ton of other restaurants in the area, including another sushi place, I can't see myself wanting to return to this place. read more

This is my favorite place to eat, not even my favorite sushi place but in general my favorite restaurant. I've been coming here almost once a week for a few months now and the service is amazing. Only reason for the four stars is because they've hired some new staff and they seem under trained. We sat outside yesterday and got our drinks and appetizer fairly quickly and we placed our order (my favorite is the sweet potato roll, I recommend it to everyone!) and it was taking a lot longer than usual for our food to arrive. We went inside to ask if our food is ready and they were surprised we haven't gotten our food yet because it was ready for a while. Please train the staff better. MY FAVORITE ONES WE ORDERED: Mango salmon roll and the tuna, salmon, avocado roll. The fish is so fresh you wouldn't even believe you were eating fish. There is absolutely no fishy stench. SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN TASTING. And you know how a lot of sushi places tend to overdo it with the rice? Not here! The rice and fish ratio is perfect. Oh my UMAMI!
