Rude rude!! we called to a place to go order and the lady on the phone was unprofessional and rude. You can't eat inside and there's nothing spectacular about the atmosphere inside there. The veggie eggroll was not very good. It tasted greasy, burnt and a little chalky. The fried rice was fine. Nothing spectacular about it. The crab Rangoon very salty, dry, but too much cream. Emperor's Kitchen has been my family's favorite Chinese spot for at least 25 years! No one makes egg foo young like they do! They're also fast - never takes longer than 15 minutes from calling in an order to picking it up. Lastly, they've been able to accommodate my mother's sesame allergy, which is incredibly rare for a Chinese restaurant. We did not end up, ordering food from here. The lady cannot understand what I was saying, not because of a poor connection, but just because she did not understand what I was asking for. She got frustrated and hung up. If she was at least polite I would not have bothered rating the restaurant. Coming here to review them solely for their egg rolls. They are quite literally the best egg rolls I have ever had. The shrimp or veggie ones are equally good. They may use tahini in the mixture? That's my guess as they have a very delightful and unique nuttiness, sort of like peanut butter. I've never eaten anything else from here but anytime I'm in town, I will go wildly out of my way to get an order of egg rolls. 10/10 would recommend stopping for some egg rolls. Eat here if you want to speed run your bowel movements. This place was not good. Chicken was slimy and nasty, I got the hunan chicken and it was completely different than how it was advertised. You get a lot of food for the price, but you're better off buying literal garbage. More worth your money than this place. read more

Eddie the owner is so funny. Love his friendliness and how he talks to the customers. It makes the establishment great. We ordered the crab Rangoon which is huge. It is NOT full of just cheese. He has the crab with some good stuff. Not too cheesy either. This location is next door to Oberweis ice cream. read more

Their jumbo egg roll is no joke. It's huge. I sent a selfie pic with it to a friend and he thought it was a sweet potato. I was wondering why it cost more than $2 for one. Taste-wise, everything was all over the place. The hot and sour soup, how I measure a good take out place, had good ingredients in it, but was really gloopy. Way too much corn starch. Also, it wasn't really sour so I added my own vinegar. The Three Delicacies (chicken, shrimp and beef) was decent. The meat in the bbq pork with bok choy was delicious. Tender and fatty. The bok choy, on the other hand, had a few pieces that tasted spoiled. And the giant sweet potato of a egg roll was stuffed with vegetables but reeeeeally salty. Overall, just a typical chinese take out place that I didn't really care for but I'll probably end up eating it all the time because it's near my apartment. read more

We have ordered from Emperors Kitchen many times throughout the years. The chicken was always tender and the food always tasted fresh. We ordered this weekend and the food was horrible. Sesame chicken had a different sauce and the chicken quality was bad. The orange chicken also had a different sauce, and the chicken was dry. Even the rice was bad. The rice had more of a minute made texture, not your typical sticky rice. read more

Ate here last night before visiting Elmhurst Hospital. I too like Lily's review was shocked at the size of their egg roll. These are by far my favorite egg rolls. If you like them, there is a sit down chinese restaurant called "New Star" on North Ave in Elmwood park that has them as well to dine in. Food was good! We ordered when we got there and the food only took about 5 minutes for them to prepare. It was extremely fast and delish! I had the Chicken War Mein and my boyfriend had the Cashew Chicken. I'd recommend his Cashew Chicken before my Chicken War Mein for flavor but both get two thumbs up! read more

This used to be our absolute favorite Chinese take out food. However, in the past year the food has definitely gone down hill. The fried rice in particular has consistently been very mushy- it's nothing like the FRIED rice I have come to know and love. The service, however, is consistently great! I have been ordering from this place for over 20 years. It is the only place close to the area for that reason I order from them. The food is so overpriced. I save the menus every trip. I date the menus, the prices are raised at least twice a year. The food is just ok. I spend $60 or $70 every trip to feed the family and never would think to give me a free cookie. Today is the last time, meal prices again raised 10% or more and the food was terrible. No flavor, the beef kow had carrots and beef that's it. The chicken was terribly dry. 50% of what I paid for was not eaten and thrown away. Don't waste your money, there has to be another Chinese carryout close by. read more

16 years ago we moved from Elmhurst to another suburb and have yet to find Chinese that can compare to Emperor's Kitchen. A week ago we were in the neighborhood and picked up at Emperor's. I used to LOVE this place and would make it a point to stop by if I was in the area ... but how things have changed. Last night I just placed a take-out @ $40 in food, now the food was mostly delicious. The eggroll (which is what set them apart from other Chinese restaurants) was flavorless, bland and and just mush - not what I remembered from previous experiences there, I was really looking forward to those but was let down. On the other hand, The Egg Foo young, wor mein were very good, as was the Egg Drop soup ... BUT the real kicker from this order was the sauces, you know the generic little sweet/sour, soy & hot mustard packs that they throw in the bag? ... well, the out of 7 or so hot mustards, all but 1 was rancid - the packs were 'puffed up' and smelled of rotten eggs when opened. The same with a couple of the sweet/sours that were opened. Ended up tossing the lot of them out. I wonder how old these things were that they were giving out to customers. read more

Beyond impressed with this place and excited it's a less than 5 minute drive from home. Not to mention, food is ready SUPER fast and the staff is friendly. Had been driving all the way to Villa Park to China House and never again! The pan fried potstickers are so good we've ordered them 3 times in a week (don't judge us). The BBQ pork fried rice does not disappoint, nor do the sesame or cashew chicken. A little bummed by the egg rolls, they are bitter. I can't tell if it's the cabbage or what, but they are not for me. The potstickers more than make up for them, so we order them instead and everyone's happy. Worth trying right away. If you're feeling extra indulgent - place your order, walk next door to Oberweis and order ice cream, by the time they finish prepping and checking you out there, your food will be ready for pickup. #win read more

I'm from the city where there is fresher food and better choices. To me, its all about the crab rangoon...theirs is gross. Onion like taste and I believe imitation crab. Just wasn't good. It was heavy tasting. The chicken broccoli was heavy with some kind of weird milky sauce. UGH! The sesame chicken was too heavy in the sauce. I'll drive all the way to Hinsdale for something fresher...disappointing. We all (3) had the Four Seasons, EXCELLENT! Egg Rolls were HUGE and so nice and hot. The food was very good with all the different meats, the BBQ pork was very tasty, the chicken and beef were so tender and a variety of mixed Chinese veggies. Oh, we loved the Shrimp Fried Rice. I don't want to jump the gun and say that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Elmhurst, only because there are two that I haven't tried yet. However, this ranks as some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. I've been ordering from here since the place opened - many many years ago. The funny thing is that Eddie, the owner, almost always says, "15 minutes." But, I've timed it and it's usually 7 min. If you order, make sure you're already in the car on the way there. It's clean, friendly, and the food is decent compared to the other divey Chinese takeout's in the area that don't look clean. It's not greasy like other places. Closed on Mondays. Carry out only. Wide selection, low prices, good quality Chinese. I've tried a dozen dishes and while some were definately better than others, all in all they use fresh ingredients and all dishes are at least decent. I've settled on the pork fine cut chop suey as being my favorite, but also really like the szechuan fried rice, which comes with more vege's than 'normal' fried rice and some hot pepper to give it a little kick. Only knock on the place is that the white rice is always a little more gooey than I prefer. But that's minor. Food is quick at lunch, never more than 15 min, and usually only 10 min. Relatives have raved about this place for years but based on recent reviews it appears things have changed. We recently moved to Elmhurst and this was one of the first places we tried and unfortunately we were disappointed. We had egg rolls, crab rangoon and bbq pork fried rice. Our overall impression was - bland. All three had very little flavor. Nothing bad but nothing worth trying again. Time to try other Cantonese/Mandarin/Szechuan restaurants in the area. Also, a previous review compared these egg rolls to the egg rolls at New Star (which we love!). No way. The only thing they have in common is size. These were mostly cabbage and undercooked. read more
