    Veggie Miso Ramen
    Steve A.

Casual restaurant in downtown LaGrange for Asian food, but that doesn't mean it tastes cheap. Forbidden Noodle has noodles of course, along with pho, rice, and others. It has tons of things to choose from for all tastes. Good for many types of diets. The portions of the pho are pretty big and full of good stuff. After walking around a bit we came here. It was one of the few restaurants that wasn't packed. This is an order at the counter type of restaurant. Often these restaurants are pretty cheap and not of good quality. This one is better though. It's about $13 for the bowls of ramen. The Veggie Miso is the one for vegans. Has a vegan miso broth. There's baby bok choy, broccoli, green onions, ramen, seaweed, and tofu. Be sure to get the side of chili oil to put in the bowl. Even though it adds a bit of a charge, this also adds lots of flavor. The broth may be a little plain without it. Also there's other menu items like stir fries. There's the choice of proteins including beef, chicken, and tofu. Good place to get some fast Asian. It may be casual, but it's still high quality. There's plenty of ramen to choose from, including choices of these for vegans and vegetarians.

I was pleasantly surprised by this ramen shop (considering the location lol) but I really enjoyed the food. Despite adding broccoli to ramen and not marinating the soft-boiled egg, the broth and meat made up for it. The noodles had a good chew, the broth was flavorful, and the pork (although crispy like bacon) tasted great. We also got the sweet and sour chicken which had a good flavor. It's slightly more expensive than most ramen, but it is comparable to other shops near La Grange.

The prices have increased on average 50% (i.e., what used to $9.99 is now $14.99), blame on inflation or what have you... just know the prices on yelp are outdated. The place looks clean, and the ambience is modern and open The menu is pretty straightforward. My wife tells me the miso veggie soup is not as good but the stir fry ramen was very good! Pork or chicken was very tasty. We also liked the matcha tea boba as it didn't have added sugar, it seems.

Although, everything LOOKED super good it was really just meh. My husband's meal seemed pretty good. But mine and my son's were super salty. It's counter service which was fine. They do have a lot for parking.

Forbidden Noodles came in clutch when I had food aversions to just about everything except for ramen during my first trimester of pregnancy. Forbidden Noodles was the closest ramen spot, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the veggie miso ramen, which was delicious! My only critique is that I ordered an egg and I made a note not to soft boil it because I was pregnant, but the egg was still soft boiled. Other than that, it was a great experience! I've been back once since and will definitely return in the future. While I did takeout both times, the inside is cute. Would love to din in there in the future!

This is a cute little ramen shop. The young woman who served us was very helpful when we explained we'd never been there and asked for opinions. Ended up ordering the pork tonkotsu and some fried chicken dumplings. The veggies and pork were fresh and well cooked, the dumplings arrived piping hot and crispy. We really enjoyed the food. All that said, the dining area floor wasn't as clean as I'd have liked, and although the bathrooms themselves were clean, there was a faint odor of "bathroom."

Amazing staff, clean environment, and great food! Food was delivered quickly, boba was also great --boba had small chunks of real fruit as topping which was a delightful surprise!

Stir Fry Ramen Beef . Noodles were amazing, but the beef was a little too soft for my liking.

Before walking in, I was very cautious about what to expect. I've lived in Asia most of my life and even Japan so the last thing I wanted was some Americanized Asian food and I was proved wrong. Great customer service and overall fantastic noodles. Wish the portion sizes were bigger and this to me would be my go to when I'm missing good Asian food from the lack of traveling! Give this place a shot - the dumplings/gyozas and plain stir fry ramen are a must try

Notice...tiny worm on napkin. I found it in the broth of the Vegetarian Miso Soup.

Well I found a worm in my Miso Vegetarian Ramen...so that was something. I've reached out to their info email address and haven't gotten a response. This was our second time eating takeout from this place and the first time gave us stomach aches, but we decided to try it again. Second time, I find a worm. So needless to say, we won't be going back. I'd like a full refund of this meal because after finding the worm, no body finished their food.

TLDR: Not authentic ramen and it came lukewarm. Probably won't come back. I came here on a cold snowy day and was hoping to get a bowl of piping hot authentic ramen. (Why I thought Downtown La Grange would have authentic ramen is a mystery.) I ordered the Beef Paitan Ramen, as per the recommendation of the restaurant staff. The broth was overly greasy without depth in flavor and, worst of all, it came lukewarm. Sigh. The beef had some good flavors but the rest of the toppings were cold and flavorless. I did like the naruto on top tho! The service was great and the staff was friendly but I probably won't come back for the food...

Me and my girlfriend came here her food was fine and great I didn't like the first dish I ordered asked if I could replace it and then did replace it but seemed like my noodles were really undercooked don't think I'll be coming back.

The spicy vegetable ramen was generously portioned, with a tasty broth, perfectly cooked egg, a few tofu cubes, plenty of ramen noodles (of course), and a fine assortment of delicious vegetables which included broccoli, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, etc. A little on the pricey side, but the meal was worth it!

I asked for a hot paste to bring up the heat and was obliged by the chef himself. I do like the fact that the chef comes out to bring me the hot sauce, if course I didn't want to insult his food and he understood. The noodles here are always nicely done and the seafood will definitely satisfy your taste. It considered of shrimp, and seafood mixed up. I love the singleness of the soup yet it does offer you a warmness that lingers on the palate. I was gling to order the beef bone marrow from next door (yws you can also order from the next door restaurant but you have to ask) and this adds an element of more food for your buck so to speak. I do adore that they flyer this. I have eaten on their outside Cafe in summer but for cold days, inside it is. Very romantic spot (this time the partner was working) so I ate alone. But it was fine. Always a very clean and sweet place to eat and I highly recommend any of the soups. I've had various ones. Just the perfect spot to have a meal for sure.

The hostess, who seemed like she was having a hard time negotiating it all, informed us that it would be closer to that reservation time. They pump loud hip hop which was fine. We were sat about 10min late at a center high top table. We ordered drinks and some buns. I also had a wild hair and added a salad as well. The bao bun was seriously the best I have ever had. No exaggeration at all - the meat was tender, not chewy, and the outer skin still had a perfect crisp to it. Wow. MUST HAVE, The salad was also incredibly good with the carrot ginger dressing. The ramen was solid - but I wish bamboo shoots were listed on the menu so I could ask them to hold them. Ramen was standard. Only issue was the wait time between ordering and items coming out. I noticed people who came in after us being served very quickly - not sure if our waitress wasn't putting in what we ordered or not picking up our orders. In a wild turn of events - I ordered dessert at a ramen house - the Cinnamon Toast Crunch sundae which was pretty good. Overall - very good place.

I was desperate for vegetables after eating out for a few days, so I ate the radish expecting it to be a throwaway garnish, but it was actually a delicious pickled radish soaked in sauce. It was a welcome bite. I also tried the rose mallow mocktail, all of the ingredients are ones that I like and it made for a nice refreshing drink.
