Hey fellow Yelp users! I went to Forbidden Noodles in La Grange on 7/17/24 (Wednesday) with my bestie. This was my first time coming here so I didn't know what to expect. My bestie has been here a few times, so I went with the Ramen should recommended I should get. Forbidden Noodles definitely exceeded the expectations I didn't have. Food: I ordered a pork tonkotsu with miso instead of the tonkotsu ($14.99). Since I was treating myself that day, I also decided to try their cream cheese rangoon with their spicy mayo ($3.99 for 3 pieces) and it was absolutely delicious! Honestly a great combo! Atmosphere: I loved the atmosphere. I went on a really hot day, so it felt nice walking into the cold. The place had low lighting which gave it a warm and cozy aesthetic. Perfect place for a date or catch up lunch/dinner. Customer Service: I thought the customer service was great. The cashier that took my order was really nice. She even brought out cups of water for me & my bestie even though neither of us asked for any. Parking: There's a parking lot, parking garage, & street parking which is all FREE. Street parking is hit or miss, so I totally recommend parking at the parking lot or parking garage. Overall Experience: Overall, I had a good experience at Forbidden Noodles. I would highly recommend this place if you're craving some Ramen but want to skip the trip going to Chinatown (although Chinatown does have a good chunk of Ramen spots). You can even watch a movie before or after grubbing at Forbidden Noodles at the nearby Classic Cinemas La Grange Theatre. What a hidden gem in LaGrange for ramen. I went there and really enjoyed their Chicken miso ramen.. with fresh bok choy egg scallions, the chicken was marinated and tender.. Great job... I ordered the side of brussel sprouts. Fantastic.. and I had to try their stir fry chicken. But keep in mind, it's not your average stir fry accompanied with cabbage rice noodles and broccoli... I really look forward to going back there... And I really like the American kid in the front who's been there since they opened 2017, because I was a new customer and didn't know how to order her. He helped me decide what was best for my taste... They have a great menu wish it was a cozier environment.... Kind of had more of a carryout vibe or quick eating.. Casual restaurant in downtown LaGrange for Asian food, but that doesn't mean it tastes cheap. Forbidden Noodle has noodles of course, along with pho, rice, and others. It has tons of things to choose from for all tastes. Good for many types of diets. The portions of the pho are pretty big and full of good stuff. After walking around a bit we came here. It was one of the few restaurants that wasn't packed. This is an order at the counter type of restaurant. Often these restaurants are pretty cheap and not of good quality. This one is better though. It's about $13 for the bowls of ramen. The Veggie Miso is the one for vegans. Has a vegan miso broth. There's baby bok choy, broccoli, green onions, ramen, seaweed, and tofu. Be sure to get the side of chili oil to put in the bowl. Even though it adds a bit of a charge, this also adds lots of flavor. The broth may be a little plain without it. Also there's other menu items like stir fries. There's the choice of proteins including beef, chicken, and tofu. Good place to get some fast Asian. It may be casual, but it's still high quality. There's plenty of ramen to choose from, including choices of these for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Was not bad, was not amazing Turn off was inside was dark empty and I went to bathroom and floors were so sticky that it made me wonder how the back room was/is. It felt like walking on tape. Regarding the bao, felt out of package bao, not homemade. Still good. I could be wrong if made on site or not. The stir fry beef was good, but meat felt tough or sliced and held and than flash heated in a pan. I didn't try the ramen, but my kid said it was ok. I was pleasantly surprised by this ramen shop (considering the location lol) but I really enjoyed the food. Despite adding broccoli to ramen and not marinating the soft-boiled egg, the broth and meat made up for it. The noodles had a good chew, the broth was flavorful, and the pork (although crispy like bacon) tasted great. We also got the sweet and sour chicken which had a good flavor. The prices have increased on average 50% (i.e., what used to $9.99 is now $14.99), blame on inflation or what have you... just know the prices on yelp are outdated. The place looks clean, and the ambience is modern and open The menu is pretty straightforward. My wife tells me the miso veggie soup is not as good but the stir fry ramen was very good! Forbidden Noodles should stay forbidden. Had hopes for this place after reading positive reviews, but left disappointed and still hungry. The beef bowl was $18 and it was small and oily. The bathroom was run down and the soap dispenser not working. The soda dispensers weren't working either. The ambiance of the place doesn't make up for the high prices they're charging. Everything feels run down. Just eat somewhere else with better quality food. read more

Before walking in, I was very cautious about what to expect. I've lived in Asia most of my life and even Japan so the last thing I wanted was some Americanized Asian food and I was proved wrong. Forbidden Noodles came in clutch when I had food aversions to just about everything except for ramen during my first trimester of pregnancy. Forbidden Noodles was the closest ramen spot, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the veggie miso ramen, which was delicious! My only critique is that I ordered an egg and I made a note not to soft boil it because I was pregnant, but the egg was still soft boiled. Other than that, it was a great experience! I've been back once since and will definitely return in the future. While I did takeout both times, the inside is cute. Would love to din in there in the future! read more

TLDR: Not authentic ramen and it came lukewarm. Probably won't come back. I came here on a cold snowy day and was hoping to get a bowl of piping hot authentic ramen. (Why I thought Downtown La Grange would have authentic ramen is a mystery.) I ordered the Beef Paitan Ramen, as per the recommendation of the restaurant staff. This is a cute little ramen shop. The young woman who served us was very helpful when we explained we'd never been there and asked for opinions. Ended up ordering the pork tonkotsu and some fried chicken dumplings. The veggies and pork were fresh and well cooked, the dumplings arrived piping hot and crispy. We really enjoyed the food. All that said, the dining area floor wasn't as clean as I'd have liked, and although the bathrooms themselves were clean, there was a faint odor of "bathroom." read more

Well I found a worm in my Miso Vegetarian Ramen...so that was something. I've reached out to their info email address and haven't gotten a response. This was our second time eating takeout from this place and the first time gave us stomach aches, but we decided to try it again. Second time, I find a worm. We stopped by here after going to Brookfield Zoo, which is less than 10 minutes away, so it makes for a nice stop in a very happening suburban downtown area. The restaurant doesn't look quite like a typical japanese restaurant, but the food was pretty good. We ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, beef paitan, and japanese chicken curry. The tonkotsu ramen was very tasty, though the meat could have been a little more tender. The egg was soft-boiled perfectly. It comes with bok choy and broccoli, which surprisingly went well with the dish. The japanese curry was good for the kids since it wasn't spicy and was delicious. The chicken wasn't what I expected since it's fried more like karaage rather than stewed, but it still went well with the dish. The beef paitan was just ok, as the beef was a little tough, but the taste of the broth and noodles were good. All-in-all, it's worth a try for everyone. The food was pretty good but It was a bit pricey for a self-serve restaurant. I'd stick with the tonkotsu and curry if I went back, and maybe try one of those odder menu items like egg roll with cheese just for the thrill. read more

I don't usually take the time to write a review but this was a must! In town for business and did a search for places close to hotel. So glad I chose this restaurant! Had the shrimp stir fry and Brussel Sprouts and they were both AMAZING!! (Even the carrots on top of the Brussel Sprouts were soooo good!)I was full half way through but kept eating because it was just that good and so full of flavor. The girl at the counter was very kind and patient while I figured out what to order and then came to my table a few times to check on me. I went with a close friend who had spent time in Japan. She said that the dishes reminded her of her time there. I had the ramen chicken soup. Delicious! And I took some home since there was so much filling the bowl. My friend had the beef "dry" noodles. That was more like a stir fry than what I expected. She lived hers as much as I loved mine--and she brought home leftovers, too. The person who delivered our dish said that his wife was the chef. Our compliments are for her! A very small place and we dined in August so Covid was definitely around but things might be different now. There were a couple of outdoor tables and a couple of tables indoor and I remember the soda fountain was not working. My husband had the ramen and cheesy egg rolls and he liked his but I didn't like being served seaweed salad that was still frozen. The noodles I ordered was without the broth and they let you know when the food is ready so you have to order at the counter and pick up at the counter. I do prefer being served. I think charging for a full priced bowl their portions are small. Noodles with a few pieces of meat and a soft boiled egg is very inexpensive so making a bowl look bigger with a few extra noodles doesn't take much thought in making a consumer feel he's not paying too much but I did walk out thinking they really charge a lot for the amount they served and no waiter service was not my cup to tea. read more

This is a review of my 2nd experience at forbidden noodle. My first time, i couldn't say enough good things about their service and, months later, their service is still top notch. However, my food was not as fulfilling as last time. Please see the picture. I ordered the pork stir fry, soda, and paid ¢50 for the hot sauce. My total, out the door was about $16.50. The food, itself, was delicious, though i thought a bit too oily. My biggest gripe was the qty. I feel, for $16, you should be able to get more than just and entree and a drink. Even the take out box reminds you of how small the portion is. I wasn't necessarily full by the end of my food, but i was definitely done with the oil. The food was still hot, tasty, and fresh, and though i probably won't be ordering the stir fry again, I'll be back for the ramen. read more

Service was good. Ambiance was okay, random stuff on the walls and wierd music. Almost looks like they just moved it but I know they have been open for a while. The good was average at best. The Ramen has no flavor, very bland. When I asked for Chilli sauce or something to add flavor they said it was 50 cents extra. The garlic broccoli was raw and the sweet sauce was overpowering with very little garlic flavor. The pork in the Ramen was crispy but only 3 pieces and wasn't anything special for a $16 dish. Overall I would avoid and go to sushi in town rather than here. The boycott will continue until food improves. read more

I never leave reviews anywhere and this place made me want to leave a 1 star. That was the most bland food I have ever had in my life. Bill was $40+ for the most bland ramen ever made and 1 bao bun with horrible texture. On top of that they didn't have any boiled eggs which was really disappointing. I feel cheated, not what I was expecting AT ALL! Let me first suggest you go to Strings Ramen in Chinatown. That place really knows how to make good Ramen! This was my experience: Poor! My Shrimp Miso was edible, but lacking. The broth had good flavor, but it was affected by the starch of the noodles. There were clump of store bought noodles in my bowl, which tells me they don't rinse the noodles before serving them. (I'm not against store bought noodles, but at least cook them properly like I do at home.) Not enough vegetables in the noodles, the only three veggies were bok choy, green onions and broccoli. I suggest you add more vegetables like carrots and corn. Broccoli was raw and the broth was not hot enough to soften it, so I ate it raw. The soft boiled egg was cold, and you do not mix cold ingredients in a warm broth. By the way, you get half of the egg, not a whole egg. It was breaded shrimp, and breaded shrimp does NOT work at all with broth. I think these small additions will make your already expensive bowl of ramen worth the price people already pay. The beef stir fry noodles was VERY SALTY. Salt is not the only seasoning, and if you are already using soy sauce (which is salty) you reduce the amount of salt added to your dish. Beef cuts were overcooked and bland (ironic since the noodles were salty) All together (including a tip you leave before receiving service) was $59.24. Like I said, if you had good ramen in the past you'll be very disappointed and will feel cheated. If this is your first time, it may be ok for you. read more

So I can't begin to tell you how many times I had bad Ramen, from the overcooked noodles to not enough broth. The whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth not to mention the inauthenticity ramen. I have eaten here 2 times and now I can honestly say that this is all hype! The food is ok at best. It's very different and out of the box which is great.... but they flavor is somewhere else. I found the chicken stuffed egg roll to be very boring and dry tasting. I then went to the noodles and I didn't like that they hold back on the seasoning and sauce. They put just enough so you can get a hint of what is should be like. The second time I was here my friend wanted me to bring her back something and I brought her a Ramen dish. My family loves to eat but we have been stuck eating the same thing in our immediate area which is Homewood, IL. Tonight was my restaurant pick because it's my birthday (happy birthday to me), so we came to Forbidden Noodle. Let me start off by saying that this place is AWESOME, from the service to the food. We were waiting on by the Chef's husband. He was so nice and explained everything to us because I have a shellfish allergy I can't have everything and he was very informative as to what I could have and could not (I hate I couldn't taste the soy sauce). We started off with chicken dumplings, spicy chicken wings and crispy Brussels spouts, all delicious. The flavors were indescribable in a great way. For our entrees my husband had the sweet and sour chicken stir fry, I had the chicken miso and my son had the shrimp miso. We have never had miso because I was afraid it would be fishy or too salty. Not at all, the broth was so good I could have it without all the extra (although the extra was delish). My husband ate his entire bowl and loved it so much that he ordered one to go! For dessert my son have the strawberry Mochi and again absolutely delightful. To top off our dining experience we got to meet the Chef. She came to our table and told us about the different ingredients she uses for the dishes. To say they are beyond hospitable is an understatement. We will most def be back. Grabbed an early 5pm dinner with my husband here the other day. Is this place authentic? No clue since I've only had ramen once before but it was really good!! The spot is super casual and fairly large, in the awesome location of downtown la grange. We split a bbq pork bao which was one of the better baos I've had because it had a lot of filling inside. We both had the beef ramen and it was delicious! The broth is white but has zero dairy in it. It's really flavorful and not too salty. And the beef was really tender! Overall really wholesome and we are planning on grabbing another quick dinner there tonight. read more
