I've been here twice now and both times the ramen did not disappoint! However, I hate that you have to pay $1-3 for additional toppings. The first time I got the Spicy Chicken Ramen which wasn't super spicy but still very good! Recently, I went again and got the crispy chicken ramen. We did not eat lunch and were out shopping when we started craving ramen. We decided to come here at around 5:30 pm on a Friday and the restaurant was fairly empty. We picked where we wanted to sit and were able to order quickly. I got the tempura brussel sprouts, which are supposed to be coated with truffle oil and the premium tonkotsu combo ramen. First, the tempura brussel sprouts came out. They looked nice and had a nice crunch, but there was absolutely no truffle flavor. I tried to just eat them as is but wanted to get some sauce. I guess asking was too much, however. When I asked one of the servers(with glasses), if it was possible to get some tempura sauce, she seemed very short tempered. She preceded to raise her voice and say it didn't come with sauce and that the oil was on it. I tried to ask if I could purchase some if necessary, but I never got the chance because she just kept talking over me. She finally asked "well what sauce do you want, spicy or what?" I just said spicy to get her to leave, and then she pointed to the pepper paste on the table , said there it was, and walked away. Now for the ramen. The broth was a mix of chicken and pork broth, and it was very flavorful with a slight smoky flavor. The chicken and pork chasu were both nice and thick. The noodles, however, were hard and not what I expected for ramen. This was strange since my girlfriend's noodles were different and much better. Without my experience with the server, I would have rated this place 4 stars for the unique broth flavor. Unfortunately, customer service is a big part of enjoying a restaurant. We were in the area so came here on a whim and we were not disappointed! We each ordered a different spicy pork ramen and were both delicious (though not very spicy, so nothing to fear!) I particularly really liked my partner's ramen which had the ground porn in it - very beautifully seasoned! Additionally, it was also a very generous amount of noodles! We also ordered the tempura maki I believe it was... which was also delicious and does have a little bit of a kick to it (just enough, nothing too spicy). Came here for dinner and it was completely empty on Tuesday evening at 6ish pm. I ordered the black tonkotsu and I was pleasantly surprised. The broth is so full of umami and garlic flavor and the chasu was melt in your mouth and buttery. I wish i ordered extra meat. They also have spicy chili paste and some type of garlic soy jalapeno sauce?? Anyways I added both of those to my broth and it just turned up the flavor to the next level. It was the bright and piquant peppery notes from the chili really elevated the dark garlic and umami notes from the broth and contrasted the rich creaminess. The flavor became so complex and addicting. The only downside is that the noodles they used were thin and I don't think they're very authentic or high quality ramen noodles. They were soft and one-dimensional and very pale white. Quality ramen noodles should be more of a bright yellow, and chewy and hardy. Today I had the Tokyo Ramen for lunch. All three pieces of Pork were completely fatty, absolutely no meat on them. I had to put them aside on a separate plate in order to eat my ramen. Quality- the garlic tonkatsu ramen broth was very light and tastes like hot water with just some ramen seasoning from a packet. There wasn't much special with it because it tasted cheap. It is difficult to find a great ramen shop in the area. I have a few of my favorite miso ramen, shio ramen and soy ramen shops. But I have never met a good tonkotsu ramen bowl until today. Their black rich tonkotsu ramen tasted like a genuine tonkotsu ramen from Japan. I heard the chef learnt ramen cooking in Japan for only 4 years. The flavor is definitely there. I did like the soup flavor, cha siu pork and flavored eggs in the bowl. Will probably go back there when I feel like tonkotsu ramen from now on. My co workers tried umami miso ramen, I did not try it but they said it tasted good, too! If you are not good with spicy food, mild umami miso or black rich tonkotsu are less spicy than others. I rated for four stars, not 5 because of couple of reasons below. Temperature: some toppings are pretty cold for a freezing day out side. Also the room temperature is pretty cold too. We could not take off jackets while we were eating. Parking: there is no designated parking lot for the shop. You have to find a parking spot somewhere in the Elmhurst downtown and walk for a while. Price: our bowl is about $16 on the menu. Added tax and tips it will be about $20. It is a little pricey ramen bowl, and after we ate the whole bowl, we were not full either. Definitely a great safety option for ramen! Me and my cousins came here last weekend. First we were not attended for 5 minutes so I had to get up and ask to at least get some waters in our table. We ordered 3 appetizers and did not get small plates for them. We ordered the mild ramen brother but barely tasted anything so next time we will order hot. If you like spicyness maybe hot is for you too but I have not tried it yet so I can't say if it's good or not. I also got the ginger soda and it was delicious. It's not the canned soda, but the one in the glass bottle with real bits of ginger in it! I definitely plan on coming back. My ramen was delicious and the portions are huge. This is a family favorite for ramen and teriyaki. Both of my kids devoured their beef teriyaki. It comes with a generous helping of white rice. The beef is smothered in sauce and mushrooms. My wife had the black Tonkatsu Ramen and I had the spicy Tonkatsu ramen, both were excellent. The star of the show is the crispy chicken with the spicy mayo. Delicious... The pork bun was not how I pictured it looking, or tasting, but that doesn't mean it wasn't delicious. I love how tender the pork is and how the bun us so fluffy and melts in your mouth. We were the only ones in the place for the first 10 mins. We ordered the Gyoza/pot stickers and the Kan ye buns. The pot stickers were decent but they were cold. The bun was loaded with mayo which was disgusting and not mentioned on the menu. They also took FOREVER to come out which was odd since they were cold and that we were the only ones there. We next ordered the crunchy chicken ramen. This is where things went from bad to worse. The ramen was barely room temperature. The bamboo shoots in it were literally refrigerator cold. Like the cook forgot to add them when cooking the ramen & just tossed them in from the fridge as it was about to be brought out to us. The broth tasted like unsalted chicken water. The whole thing was lacking any flavor, we tried adding soy sauce and a spicy sauce that was on the table. None of this helped. We literally just paid the bill and went to a different restaurant. Complete waste of money. I needed a piece of gum to get the chicken water taste out of my mouth. I don't know how anyone could think this was good. *pre covid review* My bf and I have been here a couple times now. The first time we came I really liked the broth and the toppings of the Tonkotsu Spicy Shoyu. I ate my whole bowl including all the broth. On my personal ramen ranking I thought it was similar to Furious Spoon and probably would have rated it at 4 stars. Unfortunately the last time we came, the same bowl of ramen didn't taste the same. The broth tasted different and was significantly less flavorful. The Chasu (even looking at the photos) is definitely different and was not nearly as good as the first time. I came for a quick lunch and left feeling exactly in the middle with this place. I ordered the crispy chicken and the Tokyo Tonkotsu. Pros: The fried chicken was super crispy and is the reason why I would probably come back. I do wish they served it with a creamy sauce instead of a soy base, but that's just my personal preference. They also use dark meat instead of boring chicken breast so bonus points there. Also, the noodles in my ramen were perfectly chewy and the whole egg that came with it was the textbook soft boil egg that ramen so deserves. Cons: The restaurant itself was really dark. There wasn't much natural light or lamps in the place. My ramen was advertised to be for garlic lovers but the broth tasted pretty bland, and definitely didn't have any strong garlic taste. If anything, the raw onions and green onion overpowered the dish. It was also one of the more expensive ramens costing around $14 and the only special ingredient I can think of was that it came with a whole egg, rather than a half. Foods good, most of the time - ramen is great and the kan ya buns are fantastic, sushi is meh and the kitchen entree's are so bland and sometimes so dry when I order, which I haven't since the last time but the reason why I gave them two stars is the customer service, what a horrible experience - every time I'm there, it feels like they have some sort of disdain towards a paying customer and god forbid you order for take out, they'll leave your bag on the table getting cold and won't even spend a second to ask for your order until you have to speak up and don't try to grab it yourself, they'll literally yell at you and tell you move back by the entrance to wait for them when they feel like helping you. I really loved their fried rice; so light and fresh tasting with a good amount of chicken and vegetables...no msg detected. I wouldn't say the Tonkatsu lived up to the "black rich" description. Broth was tasty and mild but no real depth here. I appreciated the garlic oil & chips, well cooked egg, and tender pork chashu. Ingredients were great but the big downer for me were the noodles. They didn't taste or look like the ramen noodles I've had in the past. More thin and translucent; definitely missing that toothsome bite. You can't have great ramen, without great noodles.. Our to-go order was right on time and nicely packed with friendly service. If they switched up their noodles, it'd make a big difference.. They're more than just ramen, so give the menu a try..
