We came here for lunch and expected from the reviews that it would be top notch. Maybe it was an off day but we all were not overly impressed. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. Music is quiet, which is ideal for talking with the rest of your table. The waitress was friendly. We ordered wine and my friend's Bordeaux tasted stale, and I was brought the wrong wine. We were given miso soup that was cold. We then ordered the crab rangoons and didn't love it. They were very heavy on the filling with limited breading and it tasted mainly of mayo- similar to a chicken salad. The sushi was the saving grace. This is our FAVORITE sushi place. We always compare other spots we have tried to Sushi nest. Their Sushi has always been fresh and delish, service is great too. Very attentive, not overly bothersome and efficient service. The ambiance is lovely too, soft relaxing vibe. We've been there with our kids and have seen other kids there too. (Usually not too many and never "running around or crazy"-so kid friendly but maybe on you to make sure they can handle sitting in a peaceful setting through dinner. Not all kiddos can and that's ok!) You'll get your drink and a bowl of yummy edamame and a warm washcloth before your meal comes. I want to mention this because I feel it's important to remember: People are more likely to write a bad review if they weren't satisfied than a good one if they were. I even read one review on here giving them 2 stars but saying that ALL the other times they went there, it was fantastic but the last time they were disappointed. Wait...WHAT?! So all those other times, did you bother to jump on and write a positive review?-no Anyway, imo-go try them!! Came by at lunch at another place for sushi in downtown Elmhurst. It has good lunch specials. Sushi Nest has lots of money saving opportunities with these. Get some rolls on the cheap. There's affordable stuff and it's better than gas station kind of quality. A lot of good specials are here at lunch. In we came for a good one. The place wasn't that busy, but thankfully it wasn't a sign. It always has a way to save money. We got the Maki Lunch Special. It's about $14 to pick 2 rolls, any kinds. We got the Cucumber Avocado and the Mixed Vegetables. Of course the rolls could have been bigger. These were still a good amount and enough for a lunch. Got to get back here at lunch and that's the only time I'll come here. It's the best time for coming with all the specials going on. Local takeout fav. We really enjoy takeout from Sushi Nest and prefer it over the others in the area. While some might suggest there's better sushi elsewhere, when we're craving sushi takeout, quite frankly, I'm not interested or up for a 15-20 min drive. So it's frat to have a solid option close to home. And come to thin of it, it's better than our sushi takeout options in River Forest/Oak Park. What makes SN a jewel? It is consistently of good quality seafood, tasty and reasonably priced. On average, classic rolls are $8-9. Quite frankly, less expensive in the Midwest is rather difficult to fathom (or trust - IMO). One of the unexpected, (at first) but cool freebies, is the edamame. I'm unclear as to the order amount, but with our last two orders, we received free edamame! (Free is written on the outside of container). Yellowtail - 5/5 Spicy tuna - 5/5 (favorite) Tuna - 5/5 Miso soup - 5/5 (soooooooo good!) Edamame- 3/5 (the freebie doesn't have salt & isn't warm but it's good. Especially for FREE). Cute place with a nice ambiance. The waitresses were very courteous, kind, and attentive. They were kind enough to let us change the tv and watch the basketball game. Excited to try a new (to us) restaurant and was craving sushi. We started out with the hot crab dip. At first we thought it was an actual dip you scoop with wonton chips but to our surprise it's more like a light crispy egg roll. Very tasty, not greasy, and the sweet chili sauce compliments it very well. Not spicy at all! Next course we ordered a variety of rolls. Started out with bbq eel, shrimp tempura, kua cha, negi hamachi, and spicy tuna. Kua cha was a favorite! Crunchy tempura texture and the sesame oil gave it great flavor and balance. The rest of the rolls were mediocre. Though negi hamachi is my go to roll to order it was alright. Spicy tuna is better but didn't hit the spot. Bbq eel and shrimp tempura was ok too. The one thing we all agreed on was the rice was extra mushy and a bit over seasoned with rice vinegar. Which seemed to make every bite sour. I mean I love sour things, but this was much as it didn't bring out the fresh fish. Decided to give a few other rolls a try and ordered red dragon and flaming. Red dragon was one of the better rolls. The crunchy tempura flakes balanced the extra soft rice and gave it some texture. The Flaming was delicious, but the glob of mayo was a bit much. All in all, the texture of the sushi rice was too mushy and sour. May come back and try other menu items and service was great, but definitely not my go to spot for sushi. Giving 2 stars because we left disappointed as it didn't "hit the spot" with our sushi cravings. For 3 people our bill was $115 and it wasn't worth it. read more

Based on selection, atmosphere abd hunch we chose Sushi Nest and are happy to report our fine luck! Upon entrance we were warmly embraced by the waitstaff and shushing chefs. We watched with appreciation the skill the chefs exhibited as the waitress offered suggestions and took our order. Being regular sushi eaters in our home or own we ordered our usual sushi and rolls. Sake and Hamachi Nigiri, a California Roll, a Spider Roll abd. Rainbow Roll and were not disappointed! Fresh delicious fish, soft shell crab tasting sweeter than any we can get in Arizona this time of year and a very generous Rainbow Roll all while being surrounded by caring likable staff! I randomly stopped in to lunch at this spot. Service was friendly and very good. The quality of food is excellent. I went with the soft shell crab appetizer. I believe it was $9 and excellent. I know it was probably frozen, but as far as meat and flavor, it was very good, the presentation was perfect - I posted a pic. The small Poki Crunch Bowl was excellent. The fish and veggies were fresh and tasted perfect. I was a little bummed at the overall amount of sushi. It is a very small amount, I did go with the small bowl and wondered if I went with the large, how much for meat there would be. Hmmmmm...... As a long time fan and regular patron, I have to admit I am greatly disappointed after tonight. I am not quite sure what happened as of late- but the incredible raise in prices does not match the downgrade in quality. Normally, I eat at the bar with whoever I dine with, and the service is great, staff, etc... (have gone through the entire menu) and the times when I have ordered pickup, the fare has been quality. All it took was tonight's overcooked rice on two meager overpriced rolls, and I am no longer a fan. This restaurant is in downtown Elmhurst right on York, near the creperie. There is free street parking and a free lot across the street. The inside is nicely decorated and dimmed for dinner dining. One of the waitresses sat us right away and took our drink order. We had a dinner menu, drinks/desserts menu, and specialty roll menu. There were a few specialty rolls that caught my eyes. The waitress gave us a complimentary bowl of edamame, which were nice and salty. DINNER TORO ROLL - $11 - The toro were mushy and this roll was very plain. I think I would prefer a more flavorful roll or the nigiri option. NEST SUSHI - $27 - 2 Salmon nigiri, 2 Tuna nigiri, 2 Yellow Tail nigiri, 2 Eel nigiri, and a spider roll. The nigiri pieces were good and the spider roll had great sauce. This dinner came with a cup of miso soup which had bits of green onion and tofu, not too salty. The value for this dish is pretty good. SPANISH MAKERAL - $7 - This was a special on the menu and it was good, but it didn't peek my interest. Went here with my wife and daughter one Friday night. No reservation, but they squeezed us in. Service was friendly enough and sushi items up to par. To be fair, it was incredibly busy. The main course came, but my order arrived 40 minutes after the others. When we tried to refuse it they gave us some static. In my opinion, this restaurant hasn't figured out how to reconcile its take out business with its sit down experience. Staff rushed passed our table repeatedly with bagged orders. I've now been to Sushi Nest twice. The first time I went was much better than this last visit. In other reviews I read about the warm towel when you are seated? That was not offered to us. There were only two tables of customers at the time, so maybe it just wasn't busy enough to go through the trouble. We were given a complimentary order of edamame though, which was a nice touch. Between 3 of us we ordered 2 California rolls, 1 spicy tuna roll, 1 Philadelphia roll, and 1 crunchy roll (tempura battered with crispy shrimp). I also ordered miso soup. I was looking forward to the soup, but it was not my favorite bowl of miso soup ever. The greens in the soup were a little too chewy, like it had been microwaved. Our sushi was pretty good, but again, not the greatest. The seaweed seemed so much chewier than normal. I actually ended up 'deconstructing' the rolls with my chopsticks and eating everything but the seaweed. It was a little off-putting. My husband and father in law seemed find with theirs though. The waitress was very pleasant. She was sweet, stayed on top of refilling our waters, and checked on us often. I never write yelp reviews but I have never had such a terrible experience at any restaurant before. Keep in mind, there's only one other table of 2, and several workers standing by the sushi bar literally just staring at our table almost the whole time we were there. Firstly, the edamame was brought out FROZEN. Then we said it was cold and they warmed it up for about 20 seconds and brought it back out, still cold and uncooked. Then they never put in 2 out of the 3 meals we ordered. They only brought out one meal, & didn't come back to the table until 10-15 minutes later to check on us. We told them we're still missing 2 meals, they went to go "check" then came back to ask us what we ordered (20 minutes ago). The ramen came out room temperature, and both sushi rolls were made incorrectly with missing ingredients from what was listed (no cucumber, no mango, etc). No apologies for the wait or misunderstanding. Our bill came out to $88. I explained our frustration with our meals & our patience with them as well, but couldn't justify paying $88 when everything we ordered was made incorrectly and also forgotten about in the first place. Their response: they said they could take off the edamame but that's it.. no apologies or anything for all the mistakes made. They also stated that edamame is usually cold, which is literally never the case, edamame is normally cooked/boiled with some seasoning or salt added but AT LEAST warm. I've never asked for anything to be taken off of a bill before, it was uncomfortable enough to bring up but their response to it all was very unprofessional and cold (like their ramen and edamame). 0/5 stars. I truly hope they can improve their service and attitudes so others can have a better experience than we did. read more

This has been our date night spot for 11 years. The ambiance is wonderful with muted lighting, the staff is usually amazing and the food is on par. My husband loves sushi (especially raw) and besides a coastal 'right off the boat' city or town .... this is the place! He specifies 'the spicy tuna roll cannot be beat!' I went to sushi nest this afternoon for lunch. I ordered the salmon teriyaki lunch special and asked for a substitute of the California to a spicy tuna roll. I was really disappointed I received my food my sushi was poorly made. It wasn't proportion right but it wasn't even rolled like they just threw it on the plate. And not once did my waitress come by and asked if I need anything else or how my lunch was. I was waiting patiently till the server finally came. I had my getting my credit car in my hand she literally grabbed it out of my hand and said oh I can charge you now. She didn't even give me my receipt and I wanted to review it first. There are a lot of sushi places in Elmhurst, so it's hard to chose one. However, I think Sushi Nest is the best, because it's fresh, there are a lot of options, and the price is decent for sushi. They always give you edamame on the house, and today when I went to have lunch, they also gave me Miso soup for free. I have never had anything that tastes bad here, and they give great descriptions of the different rolls and plates, so you know what you are getting. Anytime I go to a sushi place first thing I do is check out the restroom,why you might ask...? Great Rule of thumb, if the restrooms are clean then the rest of the place is clean. You can tell a lot from a place by the restrooms. The men's restroom was spotless. I ordered the volcano rollin and the taste of reminds me of the sushi spots in Cali, so fresh and flavorful. This may be the best sushi in Elmhurst, but in terms of sushi it was just okay. The restaurant is comfortable and clean. The service was good. The free edamame was a nice touch. We ordered the California roll, an unagi roll, and the torch (I think that was the name). All of the rolls seemed fresh, but flavorless. Even the torch, which came with a flaming dipping sauce and included jalapeños, was pretty bland. I guess I'm used to eating sushi at lunch, so it seemed a little expensive to me. It was $40 for 22 pieces of sushi, no drinks - just water - including a tip. There are at least two other places offering sushi in town (Wok-in-Fire and Sakana). Perhaps I'll update my review after visiting these restaurants. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one.
