Braved the freezing temps for this and it was so worth it & actually helped that there was no wait, usually there is one & as far as I can tell there's no reservations. The food was all really great, my favorite bites were the pork w chive dumplings & the crab rangoon. The dumplings flavor was perfect & the rangoon had big chunks of the crab & an interesting twist of flavor that I loved. We ordered the chicken potstickers, pork and chive potstickers, crab rangoons, fried rice, and General Tso's chicken. Everything had great flavor and tasted well prepared. We went to Katy's for a midweek reunion lunch with the family. Ordering was pretty streamlined, and it's helpful to always see the menu in Chinese and English- great time to practice both, particularly with my parents there to correct pronunciation. We usually go with a Sichuan dry stir-friend green bean, eggplant, a noodle dish, and whatever protein suits our fancy that day. I think they were out of an appetizer we wanted that day, but we always over order, so it wasn't a problem. They have booster seats and high chairs, so young families can rejoice. Seating options include cafe-style tables, a few family tables, and a few mid-sized booths. The menu is fairly extensive, and they have several stir-fried noodle dishes, noodle soups, and stir fries. I believe our stir fries automatically came with a side of steamed rice for the table, but you may want to double check with your server. There are also lots of fruit teas, bobas, and shakes if that's what you're craving! Can't speak to that since we primarily get water whenever we eat here: we always leave really full. Parking is in downtown OP which means there are nearby garages, some parking lots near Old Navy, and the Target parking garage. There are also limited street parking lots behind Lake near the train station stops. Be careful during weekends and holidays as it does get quite busy. read more

Depends on the day and is what you will get. The vegetables are usually fresh and crisp. However, it seems Sunday is a miss more often than not. We got tofu so tough it was like eating jerky and egg rolls that were dipped in grease before putting in a bag. This happens more consistently on Sunday, even with some time between the last bad Sunday. The food was ready fast and the people were not rude when we picked it up. We did not eat in, because sometimes it does not feel comfortable sitting there, although it is not something I can explain. Grabbed lunch here and I would say it had its pros and cons! For drinks, we got the Thai ice tea boba and strawberry ramune. The Thai ice tea was not very sweet and had a stronger tea flavor which was appreciated and of course the ramune was delicious. For food, we started with the chengdu dumplings and the beef with scallion potstickers. Both were good but the real winner was the beef with scallion potstickers smothered in the chengdu dumplings sauce - so good!! We also got the beef fried rice and chicken rice cake stir fry. The meat was not our favorite in either of the dishes and the fried rice was good, but tasted more like Spanish rice. The rice cakes were delicious when combined with chili oil so would recommend those with veggies (we found the chicken to be too chicken-y, if that makes sense)! read more

Food seems like a fast food chinese place that has been neglected. Texture and taste has been compromised. Scallion pancake seemed like its been reheated 3x over and burnt. I'm very happy that we got the chance to try Katy's Dumplings while we were here. The food was really good. I tried some of everybody's food in our party and everything was delicious. We had kids with us and they ate a little bit of everything too, which is always high praise if you have little ones! I have to say the orange chicken was really good. Usually I get kind of bored with orange chicken but this was very tasty, the beef fried noodles was also surprisingly good. Since moving to Oak Park, Katy's has been the go-to Chinese place for us. We usually try to go once every two weeks! We've since tried more items on the menu. The Xinjiang style lamb is a favorite. I got compliments about the food choice from my coworkers and everyone enjoyed the variety of dumplings. It was fun change to the usual catered lunches. We ordered a large selection of take out from Katie's Dumplings for dinner. I don't like giving a 1 or 2 star review but the food was just not very good. My son did say his egg drop soup was good. We tossed the scallion pancakes. Although some said the pot stickers were ok, some didn't eat them. There wasn't one item that any of us would say " oh that was so good ". We have ordered Katie's or eaten at the restaurant over the years and honestly the food quality is inconsistent. Tonight it was worse than that and on so much of the food of a large order. There's some really good dishes here. I did not pick the good ones this time unfortunately. My go to is their beef noodle soup. Quality- the sweet crispy fish was pretty good. You don't usually associate fish with sweet so this is a nice change. The eggplant dish was flavorful and fresh. I was not a fan of the beef and brocolli and the flat noodle dish. Delicious! I highly recommend the chow fun combination (with shrimp, beef, and chicken)--oh so good. Probably the best version of this dish I have ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, the chewy rice noodles slightly scorched and crisped up, with generous helpings of meat. We also ordered the soup dumplings, which were lovely. Very tasty broth, with good flavor of both the soup and the pork filling. Would certainly get that again. Also ordered the beef noodle soup, which was a very generous portion. I would say this one was good, but if I could only get two, I would have axed this one because it didn't come with a veggie. Taiwanese beef noodle soup normally comes with bok choy or some kind of vegetable, which adds a lot to the variation within the dish and lends freshness. The steam juicy bun was nice with soup so best to let it cook down before popping the whole bun in your mouth because soup is steamed in the bun. Vinegar soy sauce comes with the buns. The price might initially seem a little high, but the portions are huge. Some of the dishes came with sides of rice. The Mongolian beef is fantastic however sometimes I wish that there was a bigger beef:onion ratio. So flavorful it and pairs perfectly with fried rice (grandma's fried rice is bomb too).
