We went to Katy's for a midweek reunion lunch with the family. Ordering was pretty streamlined, and it's helpful to always see the menu in Chinese and English- great time to practice both, particularly with my parents there to correct pronunciation. We usually go with a Sichuan dry stir-friend green bean, eggplant, a noodle dish, and whatever protein suits our fancy that day. I think they were out of an appetizer we wanted that day, but we always over order, so it wasn't a problem. They have booster seats and high chairs, so young families can rejoice. Seating options include cafe-style tables, a few family tables, and a few mid-sized booths. The menu is fairly extensive, and they have several stir-fried noodle dishes, noodle soups, and stir fries. I believe our stir fries automatically came with a side of steamed rice for the table, but you may want to double check with your server. There are also lots of fruit teas, bobas, and shakes if that's what you're craving! Can't speak to that since we primarily get water whenever we eat here: we always leave really full. Parking is in downtown OP which means there are nearby garages, some parking lots near Old Navy, and the Target parking garage. There are also limited street parking lots behind Lake near the train station stops. Be careful during weekends and holidays as it does get quite busy.

Great food, quick service, fun atmosphere. I'd come back. Despite what some reviews said, the orange chicken was delicious. As was the chicken fried rice.

Easily one of my favorite spots! Good food, good service! The portions are generous and prices are very good!

Had high expectations since its not our first time here but very much disappointed on the texture and the taste itself.

We've been craving Katy's taste today since we come here often, but today was a very disappointing experience. This was our spot, but for some reason the food is not the same. Food seems like a fast food chinese place that has been neglected. Texture and taste has been compromised. Scallion pancake seemed like its been reheated 3x over and burnt. Noodles was oily and not fresh as it used to be. The bao seemed like its been left out for an hour and give n to us. Over all negative star!! Close this place pls before some One get sick!! Garbage food

I'm very happy that we got the chance to try Katy's Dumplings while we were here. The food was really good. I tried some of everybody's food in our party and everything was delicious. We had kids with us and they ate a little bit of everything too, which is always high praise if you have little ones! I have to say the orange chicken was really good. Usually I get kind of bored with orange chicken but this was very tasty, the beef fried noodles was also surprisingly good. I wasn't sure that would be my cuppa tea, but it totally was outstanding but they did get the job done. Just not overly friendly.

I ordered catering for a work party and they delivered promptly with everything we needed - plenty of dipping sauces and utensils. I got compliments about the food choice from my coworkers and everyone enjoyed the variety of dumplings. It was fun change to the usual catered lunches. Their dumpling dough is on the thicker side and they don't skimp on the fillings. I prefer the pan-fried dumplings over the boiled dumplings. I highly recommend this place, especially for their handmade dumplings.

This place is such a gem in oak park. If you like spicy food, you must get their Dan Dan Noodles. Good portion sizes for the price.

Ask the Community - Katy's Dumpling - Oak Park

Do you all have soup filled dumplings?

Yes we do. It is called Juicy Steam Bao or Soup Dumplings.

Thank you for answering my last question. I want to bring my friend after enjoying it so much. Do a lot of the recipes have peanuts? She is allergic.

Is this the same as the one in Westmont?

Yes. It is under the same ownership and the receipts are same. But the Oak Park location currently are out of the Shredded pancake right now. We will bring this popular dish back very soon!

    Is it BYOB?

    Yes!

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.

What I love most is the versatility...you have the traditional sit-down dining area, and then on the other side (toward the back/left), there's the hibachi grill. Whether you're in the mood to relax and be served or want something fresh off the grill, you've got options. Now, I'll be honest, the line can get long, especially on Sundays right when they open at noon. But it's absolutely worth the wait. Everything is fresh and made to order, and I've never had a bad experience here. Some of my go-to favorites include the egg foo young, Mongolian beef, spicy egg rolls, and spicy crab rolls...but honestly, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference. The atmosphere has a little bit of buzz to it, but it's not overwhelming, you can still enjoy your conversation without feeling like you're shouting over noise. Overall, this is a five-star go-to spot for me. Consistent, flavorful, and reliable every single time. If you're in the Chicagoland area, especially near Elmwood Park, New Star is definitely worth checking out.

I looked around and noticed that everyone in the restaurant was wearing a coat. We waited for 5 minutes, our waiter came by and brought menus and water, and I asked him if the heat was broken. And he told me yes the heat is broken. I don't know what the temperature was inside, but the carryout business was very busy and there were about 8 or 10 tables with people seated. Again, every single person was wearing a coat. I asked if the heat was going to be fixed right away, and he said no no maybe tomorrow. We left. When I go to Jess Cafe, I'm not looking for fine dining, or white tablecloths. I want dinner. Relatively quickly, inexpensively, and consistent. What I don't want is to freeze my ass off while I'm dining. We figured we'd come back the next night. Tuesday 1-20-26, I called to ask if the heat had been fixed. I was told no not really. So we stayed home for dinner. That's okay. Wednesday 1-21-26, had a meeting to go to, so my husband went out for pizza with a couple of friends. Today, Thursday 1-22-26. Long, long day at work, and it wasn't even time for lunch! My coworkers wanted to order Chinese food for lunch but before I committed I thought I would check with Jess Cafe to see if they had heat, because if they did my husband and I would go there for dinner. So I called. A nice guy answered the phone and I asked if they had heat. And he told me that it wasn't too bad, about 50° to 55°, but most customers were wearing coats and hats inside. So I ordered Chinese lunch with my friends at work and decided to write this review. The food at Jess Cafe is okay. It's not great, it's a little inconsistent, and some things are just not great at all. They also don't offer a lot of the standards that many Cantonese restaurants offer. Their potstickers are weird, they don't have shrimp toast, and they don't have the stuffed crab claws. We really like those. And they're Thai, and Korean food some of its passable but some of it is just gross. And what they charge for a small dish of kimchi you could buy a giant jar for the same price at Costco. It's nonetheless it's pretty good. As I said usually consistent, but here's my big complaint. And this is a message to the owner. A tall, good looking, skinny guy who lately has been running around in an orange down coat. Mr Jess Cafe - I don't care how you spend your money. It's your money. You earn it, you get to spend it however you want. But - if you're going to drive around in a big honking BMW SUV and perk it right in front of your restaurant fix the fucking heat so that your employees and patrons aren't freezing their asses off. You're in the hospitality business offer some hospitality. And park the fucking BMW in back because it's really kind of shitty to perk it right in front for your employees and customers to see whenever you want is freezing their gonads off. That's all I got thanks

There use to be a very nice women that answered the phone who was peppy and welcoming but she went away years ago and the new phone support could care less. The delivery use to be very fast. When you call back they tell you they'll send it out again but the driver takes his time knowing it's a mistake order. But the biggest problem now is the food quality. It drastically went down. Everything used to be fresh. The meat good cuts. The veggies crisp. And great sauce creations. Now, the opposite. Food is soggy. Over cooked. The fried items like crab Rangoon and egg rolls are twice cooked and mushy. The breaded chicken is 75% breading and no chicken. Like fried dough balls. We liken the food quality to frozen dinners from the grocery store. The last thing to put this over the top and we'll never go back, while we were waiting for our food in store, we noticed two bad, gross things about the kitchen. One, someone cooking was hacking and coughing all over the place. No face mask. No gloves. Two, we watched as one of the cooks took crab rangoons from the counter, red cooked them, then dumped them back in a box. One fell on the floor and they picked it up and put it back in the box! Not sure what happened with this place but sadly it's not what it used to be. We've given them years of support and praise in the past and tried continuing with them even after things went down thinking they would get better again or it was just an off night. But no more.
