We all need that joint that you can go to and have that beef fried rice and you can ask them to cut the beef smaller and a little extra egg and it's always hitting. Nice egg rolls. Simple. And repeatable and solid. And maybe that's what this place is to some. But I just thought it was very midrange. We ordered one of the family deals to sample a few different items. And to their credit, the bag was like 25 pounds of food. Like, really, a lot. If you're just trying to feed a ton of folk for like $36 bucks. It's definitely a go to spot. Christmas night and Chinese food is the only game in town. But not all are open including my favorite spot. I had heard of Happiness before and thought I'd give them a try. Called up and placed my order - two eggrolls and a large order of Sesame Chicken. Forty minutes I'm told... a little longer than what I'm accustomed to, but given the day I figure they're busy. So I let the car heat up a bit and head out - I arrive about 30 minutes or so after I called. There are a couple of people waiting for food already ordered and about three people in line waiting to order or to pay for a phone order like myself. The phone is kinda crazy so the line is moving slowly as the woman who is the "cashier" is also the order taker. Two guys are in the kitchen cooking up a storm. I get to the front and pay for my food. About 5 minutes later it's ready. The 40 minute forecast was pretty good. I leave for home and there are now about 7 people waiting in line. Busy place - I hope the food is as good as the popularity. But it wasn't. The eggrolls are small and kind of hard... not much taste to then either. I move on to the Sesame Chicken. More of the same. The chicken seemed to have been breaded off site, fried and then sauced at the store. The sauce was somewhat non-descript. The old TV detective quote, "move away, nothing to see here" would be the best way to describe this dining experience. Overall, the woman taking the orders was nice and the meal was cheap - about $15.50 including tax. But it just wasn't any good - I'd rather pay $5 more for a better quality meal. read more

Well cooked meals. Loaded with fresh vegetables. But too many carrots sometimes in some dishes where I wish there as more water chestnuts or bean sprouts m, you know traditional Chinese food takeout veggies. The food is always ready on time when we order. But the place needs to be cleaned more often. It is what it is though, decent Chinese takeout in a pinch that I've been eating on and off for 30 years. This is one of 3 local Chinese places for me and always my go-to. It's a family owned shop that uses fresh (hand-cut) ingredients. This is evident in their veggies and mushrooms. They run a great business and give generous portions. The fried rice is very authentic (not just rice that's soyed up until it's brown). They tend to remember their regular customers as well. I have been going to Happiness for many years and they have great food, a huge menu, fast service and good prices. We usually order the Cantonese Chicken Chow Mein (with the noodles in a separate container). The Chow Mein is very tasty and has tons of meaty chicken, peapods, mushrooms and brocolli. I love the thin soft noodles -- not many places serve these, and I think they are better tasting than those dry hard crunchy noodles. Other great dishes are the General Tao Chicken, Shredded Chicken, Szechwan Brocolli and Egg Drop Soup. The Hot and Sour Soup is good and very thick with mushrooms and tofu, but not spicy enough for me.. In general the so-called "hot" food could be much hotter/spicier, but everything is always flavorful and generous with good ingredients. And they are fast! I always pick up, and everything is usually ready in 10 minutes. Although there are tables, it's not much of a sit-down kind of place. read more

We ordered their "Dinner For 2" which is a pretty good value. Crab Rangoon, two eggrolls, wonton soup...and two entrees (mongolian beef and chicken with broccoli)...and beef fried rice. I also ordered stir-fried green beans...because I really love green beans. I should have held off on the green beans because...the portions...are HUGE. Large. Very large. Gigantic. And everything tasted just like it's supposed to. And there was no skimping on the veggies...which was very nice. And it was HOT...temperature hot. And the delivery guy was nice enough to call and tell me he was parking so I could meet him downstairs. Fast delivery...good Chinese-American. Lots of veggies. Will order take out here again. My only complaint was that the Mongolian Beef wasn't remotely spicy...but I kept my bottle of hot sauce handy...and quickly remedied the problem. I actually got a "bonus" dish...not sure if that was intentional...or they made a mistake...but it was a lovely fried chicken sort of thing. Their food made my wife and me sick. Like, actually vomiting, queasy for a day, sick. We tried the couldn't-be-more-inappropriately-named Happiness for the first time because they're right down the street from us. BIG MISTAKE. The order arrived quickly, but the taste and quality of the food was off - it didn't taste rotten, just like Chinese food out of a can from the supermarket. The General Tso's Chicken was more like sweet and sour chicken, although the breading was soggy. We also got Kung Po Chicken and a shrimp with vegetables dish. It was so bad we didn't eat much of it and threw the leftovers away. That night we were both up with stomach aches, and felt sick for the next day (and even into a day after that). Excellent Chinese, the best place to order from in Oak Park. The portions are Enormous - they had to staple the top shut because they had crammed so much pork fried rice into the container it would not come close to closing. We got soup, Pork Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Beef and Pea Pods. We ate until we were completely full and had not even put a dent in the food. On top of the quantity, they have Quality. The beef and chicken were not your typical mystery cuts from Chinese places. This was clearly good quality meat and incredibly fresh veggies. We ordered our egg rolls and beef egg foo young at 6;00 pm on Christmas day, and were told it would be ready in an hour. When we got there, there were about 6 people there obviously waiting for their phone or online orders. My girlfriend and I knew we weren't going to get our meal when promised, but we didn't have anything else planned for the night, so we didn't mind the wait. When I looked in on the kitchen, I saw a few people, probably the owners and family, working feverishly on the orders. How could you get mad? I have to give everyone waiting for their orders credit; other than some minor grumbling, no one was complaining and most were taking it in stride. They were one of the few restaurants open on Christmas night, and they were overwhelmed. The lady taking and delivering the orders gave out free cans of soda to those people waiting. If I could give zero stars, I would. We ordered several entrees of food being we had not had Chinese takeout for quite some time. We had actually eaten here a few times before in the past and the food was good. With all the money we spent, everything we ate was absolutely horrible. The appetizer dish was a joke in that the breading used was thick and doughy (not thoroughly cooked). The egg rolls were not filled and partially hollow. The chicken was tough and had an off taste. The sweet and sour chicken had an off taste and it was so tough and stringy, we could barely chew it. The Mongolian chicken was so salty, we were concerned it was seasoned this way to cover up something else. The shrimp fried rice was sticky and tasteless. We were so angry after spending the type of money we got food that tasted old and recycled. We threw the food away for fear we might get sick. We should have known something was suspect when we placed this order and the woman told us it would be ready in 15 minutes. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone ever!!! read more

Decent Chinese food in Oak Park is hard to find and as such Happiness explains the emotion I have every time I order. It's a rather small restaurant so I recommend delivery which is speedy as can be.
