#1 Chip Suey is convenient, fast, dependable, good value but it's not excellent quality. There is a lot of variety here and if you find a favorite, you will be happy ordering it again and again. My issues are two-fold. First, very few dishes really pop with flavor and two, most of the dishes come with no vegetables. If you order orange chicken, you're getting a big container of orange chicken. That's it. If you order noodles and chicken that's exactly what you'll get. It's like these were the dishes at a banquet where everything is separated and à la carte. read more

Every one of these little Chinese takeouts looks the same almost. It's said by many the food looks and tastes the same too, but I think it's not always the case. #1 Chop Suey apparently lays claim to being the best chop Suey restaurant in Oak Park. For it sounding funny it may actually be true since there may not be another one around here. There's Chinese restaurants but not other chop suey restaurants specifically. Came in to get lunch It wasn't that busy but it was kind of slow because there's usually only a couple of people working here. This is now pretty much only a takeout. For sure it's one of the less attractive restaurants in town, only a couple tables inside. These are used just for keeping supplies on. It's about $10 for an entree. The Hung Sue Tofu is one of the less common entrees at these small Chinese restaurants. Has a sticky sweet sauce it's tossed it. There's a good variety of the usual vegetables like bamboo, carrots, and more. Get it for takeout because that's the only way to get it. It's not a good place to eat inside anyway because it's small and the customers in line are annoying and loud. The food doesn't look as good as it tastes. read more

So I love their shrimp fried rice recently. I've been eating their chicken fried rice. That's good too. I get that chicken and black bean and garlic sauce which is amazing. I also found a pineapple chicken, which was good. Their chicken lo mein is good not a fan of their eggrolls, they pre-cook them and then they sit not sure how they warm them up their beef and oyster sauce as good as well, but they put too many onions in it. I have been patronizing this restaurant since they opened. Over the last 2 years the food flavor, taste and quality has declined! The customer service is HORRIBLE. You call and they are rude, rushing you to order and unpleasant. I complained to the manager and she apologized. I have been ordering from this place for over 9 -10 years. The menu has change somewhat; eliminating some of our favorites. They use to serve spring egg rolls. They were really good. For a small neighborhood place, it was a good place to eat for convenience. Over the last few years, we would typically order the shrimp fried rice (catering size) for parties mostly. We had a taste for chinese food but was too lazy to trek to one of our favorite places about 10 miles away. So we opted for the closes place we knew and thought we would not be disappointed....was wrong. Of course we ordered the shrimp fried rice. We also got beef egg foo young, fried wontons, egg rolls, and hung sue chicken. Can I say we were disappointed. Everything was very very bland! The shrimp fried rice was not as good as usual either. I'm not sure if I will be back anytime soon. I will have to trek the miles to my favorite place . The service was okay. Everyone is nice and attentive when you order and pickup. Maybe they have gotten busy or simply don't care anymore. If you're in the area, keep driving. I would have given 2 stars, but for nostalgia I gave them 3 stars. read more

I ate here before and was walking by wondering why I have not been lately. I have another Chinese Restaurant closer to my place and remember one of which I got sick. Nevertheless I said maybe it wasn't this one. I ordered and sat down. Happened to drop my receipt saw roach clawing on the floor. I immediately told the cashier wanted a refund and why she gave it back without hesitation. She didn't even deny they had pest trouble or come see. The service is good as I ordered over the phone and they had it ready before 20 min and it was a meal for 20 people on Easter. I used to live right down the street from here way back in 2003-05 and ate here quite a bit. For some reason, when I moved only a few miles away, I stopped. The other night it came up on my Uber Eats suggestions and I thought, why not? I'm sure so many things have changed, maybe even the owners, but the food is still delicious. It has that nostalgic flavor that I can't describe, but you know it when you taste it - something about the oil most likely. I got an egg roll, some ham fried rice and shrimp with pea pod and it was all yummy. The sheer amount of food for the price was incredible and allowed me to partake for a couple of meals. It was a first time trying this place out and they left a bitter taste in my mouth. Not only was my order completely wrong they got one of our fried rice wrong. Granted my husband is allergic to shrimp. Not only they up charge us for the bbq fried rice they gave us one shrimp rice and the other bbq. Making my husband's meal a complete waste since he's allergic to shrimp. Terrible customer service they knew they were in the wrong and still only wanted to give me store credit or return to the store to have them fix THEIR ERROR. Overall the entree itself was pretty average - quality was ehhh. However, there was a lot of it. Both patties were pretty huge and there was ample rice. Good value for $9.35 - tax included. I would advise them to visit See Through kitchen on Madison and Lockwood, Division and Central or Happy Chef on Harlem and Roosevelt. The food lacked flavor, the fried rice was bland and light-skin. First, I have ordered from this restaurant for over 10 years and considered myself a good customer. Not sure what has happened to the quality of food over the last few months, but it has definitely changed and no tv for the better. Today is ordered shrimp fried rice with no vegetables and shrimp egg foo young. The fried rice tasted burnt and the shrimp in the egg foo young was so over cooked chewing it could not break it down enough to swallow. I contacted the restaurant immediately to let them know the issue and they wanted to resend the order, however no one wanted to chance getting the same quality of food and also it was getting past the time we normally eat before bed. I told them I would take a credit against a future order instead. The person I spoke with told me the credit amount would only be $5.00. I told my order was approximately $20.00 and a credit this small would not even cover one of the items I purchased. I asked to speak with the manager and she refused and told me once again he said it would be a $5.00 dollar credit. I told them they gave list a Libby time customer and what then could do with the credit. read more

I have been a customer for this restaurant since opening day more than 20 years ago. At the time I lived in Oak Park, however I moved from Oak Park 14 years to far Western Suburbs. I continued to make the trip to this restaurant because my family thought they had the best Chinese food and the manager Tina have always been so kind and professional. NOT SO, food is bad and the help is even worse, they have the worst attitudes. Today we got 2 orders of food which was over $20 and the food was horrible, the rice was mush so overcooked. We called to complain and was told to return the food, REALLY WE ARE STILL IN A COVID PANDEMIC and it is unsanitary to return food to Restaurant, but they insisted. So tomorrow we will be taking this food back to this restaurant. This is my LAST trip to this restaurant only to get horrible food and deal with the horrible attitudes of the cashiers/help. The best Chinese food I had was from this establishment. The Chinese Chicken Wings, Orange Chicken, Pepper Steak, Beef and Broccoli and Fried Rice are so good and they give reasonable portions. The food at this restaurant is below basic expectations. The food is extremely oily, tons of rice and meat, close to zero veggies and zero eggs in food! Rice taste extra old and stale. Even the noodles. The old owner & cooks were amazing. This new owner who is never there has destroyed the Legacy. I will never return and do not recommend other to try this spot. You will regret it.
