    Hung Sue Tofu
    Steve A.

Every one of these little Chinese takeouts looks the same almost. It's said by many the food looks and tastes the same too, but I think it's not always the case. #1 Chop Suey apparently lays claim to being the best chop Suey restaurant in Oak Park. For it sounding funny it may actually be true since there may not be another one around here. There's Chinese restaurants but not other chop suey restaurants specifically. Came in to get lunch It wasn't that busy but it was kind of slow because there's usually only a couple of people working here. This is now pretty much only a takeout. For sure it's one of the less attractive restaurants in town, only a couple tables inside. These are used just for keeping supplies on. It's about $10 for an entree. The Hung Sue Tofu is one of the less common entrees at these small Chinese restaurants. Has a sticky sweet sauce it's tossed it. There's a good variety of the usual vegetables like bamboo, carrots, and more. Get it for takeout because that's the only way to get it. It's not a good place to eat inside anyway because it's small and the customers in line are annoying and loud. The food doesn't look as good as it tastes.

The food is great. And service is also. It's a small place so it's good for a quick lunch. But I pick up and go.

Decent Chinese food for the price, but it's a little on the greasy side. Prompt delivery and a great selection.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.

What I love most is the versatility...you have the traditional sit-down dining area, and then on the other side (toward the back/left), there's the hibachi grill. Whether you're in the mood to relax and be served or want something fresh off the grill, you've got options. Now, I'll be honest, the line can get long, especially on Sundays right when they open at noon. But it's absolutely worth the wait. Everything is fresh and made to order, and I've never had a bad experience here. Some of my go-to favorites include the egg foo young, Mongolian beef, spicy egg rolls, and spicy crab rolls...but honestly, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference. The atmosphere has a little bit of buzz to it, but it's not overwhelming, you can still enjoy your conversation without feeling like you're shouting over noise. Overall, this is a five-star go-to spot for me. Consistent, flavorful, and reliable every single time. If you're in the Chicagoland area, especially near Elmwood Park, New Star is definitely worth checking out.

Prices were very reasonable as well. Sure, our server did disappear at times, but we got our order in promptly and didn't need much assistance. Definitely recommend this spot.

I can't remember the name of the noodles my friend had but they were delicious too! The interior of this place is also very charming and welcoming. A nice place for a lunch catch up with friends, or dinner spot, and it's the kind of place that doesn't seem like it would get so loud you have to yell across the table to hear each other. I've had the chicken in black pepper sauce, egg drop soup, egg fried rice, and the egg rolls. I would come here just for the egg rolls, hands down. Little known fact, but Chicago's egg rolls usually have a smidge of peanut butter in them as a binder, and for me this is what sets them apart from the rest of the US. Tony's egg rolls are the perfect flavor and consistency, and are the perfect embodiment of the Chicago Chinese Eggroll. The egg drop soup is some of the best I've ever had. Most other egg drop soups that I've tried have a thick broth with egg ribboned into it. Tony's broth is thin, but very flavorful and the eggs in the soup are SO fluffy! They even put some chicken in it as well. I was a little put-off by the visual difference, but once I tried it I was sold! The black pepper chicken was also great with the perfect amount of spice and a great depth of flavor. I usually order ahead on their website, and they are always ready once I arrive.
