I can't believe they would charge a small family a 20% "large party" fee! And $155 for bad sushi!!
Norman B.

They charged me a 20% "large party" fee for my wife and I and our 3 young children! Most places only charge a large party fee if you are 6 people or over. We came to eat here after a long drive up from the Bay Area. There was no one there but they had us wait for about 15 minutes to be seated (I walk with a cane and have trouble standing). The service was very slow and the bento boxes came very late after everyone else was already done with the sushi and oysters. The kids were very fussy waiting forever for the bento boxes. The sushi was awful! The servers were all "non-Asian" and I'm assuming the kitchen staff was "non-Asian" as well because of the poor food. Very bad experience overall. Will not be returning. Cost us $155 to feed our little family.

This is my sushi favorite place in all of Humboldt. Plenty of fish in the rolls and fun and inventive special rolls. The pieces don't fall apart between the dip and my mouth either. Don't you hate when that happens! The restaurant is always a little cold so I take my coat, but it's also great for pick up! Eating sushi spot at home is our favorite (don't forget to leave a tip still!). The salad is huge if you want a fun combination, my wife loves the oysters and knocks them back easily. She loves the sauces and variety for them. The hot dishes look good too, but i go to sushi for sushi.

Such great and friendly service Try the Crispy + Spicy Roll so yum if you love deep fried sushi.

Beautiful dining area, very warm personnel, and outstanding food. I am one of the people who likes the new automatic 18% gratuity. You don't even get an option to put any more tip on your credit card, but for exceptional service, one can always leave cash. Very clean and comfortable.

We were in town and needed somewhere awesome to get some food, this was the spot! Amazing sushi, the MoonStone roll was delicious, and the Lion roll. We may have to stop in again before we leave. Taryn was on it and about pleasure to share some laughs with talking about her upcoming road trip, drive safe Taryn! Hah!

This is a very cute restaurant. Nice prompt waitress with unlimited pickled ginger, wasabi, and water. Choice of gluten free or regular soy sauce. Delicious, fresh sushi, salads, sashimi, poke bowls. My only complaint was the oil tasted a bit off on the tempura.

Crispy spicy and Summer in the City roll with fantastic presentation I haven't seen before

I got there right when they opened today. One of the guys at the sushi bar was basically all the service as he brought me in since hostess and server were in back, he took my order and made my food. He even made the presentation better than normal! I always adore sushi spot but I hope they appreciate the value of that particular employee!

So, I've never been so disappointed. We arrived approximately at 2:30 pm. The restaurant was quite full. But there was no wait. The water we were served was room temperature, no ice. There was about 30 flies in the middle of the restaurant, just hanging out. We ordered gyoza, it arrived pretty quickly. Then the sushi. The sushi didn't arrive for another 40 minutes. Like, what? I definitely ordered the wrong roll, It was underwhelming. But that isn't on them. That's on me. But also, on them. I was so irritated that my food had taken so long to get to me, and then it was boring. Oh, and my daughters food had taken about 5 minutes longer to get to her. Anyway, I won't be coming back. Even if I did live here, I wouldn't come back.

My green tea was served in a cast-iron pot that kept it hot through the entire meal

My first visit. The service was prompt and attentive. Our server, Nate, stayed alert but inconspicuous, which always earns an extra star from me. Our food was served promptly, and exactly as ordered I don't often eat in Sushi restaurants, but it was my friend's birthday and his pick. There were several vegetarian options available and the ones I chose were perfect. The vegetable tempura was light, crisp and fresh, with no fishy taste from being fried in used oil - also, Nate assured me the tentsuyu dipping sauce was vegetarian, which I'd forgotten to ask; the portabella roll was delicious, with really good hot wasabi and fresh shaved ginger. Prices were in line with my expectations. The next time someone I know wants sushi I will know where to take them!

Chix curry
Joyce T.

We came to Sushi Spot and did not have a chance for a spot of sushi! I got the chix curry rice plate. Warming and thick curry on delicious rice. Salmon bento box was a mix of little dishes. Miso soup, fruits, salmon chipped pieces, potato croquette, rice and namasu. Surrounding tables had many sushi rolls! Next time! Love the lone silver fish in the aquarium by the restroom. He really looks around!

I got full off of rice. Sushi is very very thin & covered with sweet sauce. I read all the reviews before coming here. Not impressed

I wanted to enjoy this place... But the sushi was so very subpar. The prices would be reasonable if the food was more palatable.

I'm hoping this helps another vegan out there, or anyone really. We came in for an early ish dinner. At the time it was pretty mellow but that was appreciated because we just needed to relax and enjoy sitting down after hiking the last few days. Something fresh and not too rich where we could take out time and not feel gross. I was curious about the soul options being vegan or not because miso usually isn't, but they had this yummy sounding mushroom and veggie broth soup with vegetables and tofu (I think it's called Kenshin jiru but I might be absolutely butchering that). GET IT! It's not too heavy but has such a great flavor, plus the fresh veggies and bits of raw tofu for protein (they accidentally forgot the tofu but when I asked my server if they could just bring it on the side for me they were super nice about it). I also got some standard edamame and avocado maki roll, both of these were "fine", they did the trick but weren't amazing. My partner had the large hot sake which he loved, and then a tuna maki roll and the omakase nigiri. Same thing with his maki, fine nothing to write home about, but he loooved his omakase. They didn't tell us what was on it but I think it was albacore, salmon, salmon roe, mackerel, yellowtail, and tuna. He said it was some of the best tasting fish/nigiri he's had in a while. Our server was great at refilling our waters and checking in making sure we had everything and was just very sweet, so we appreciated them a lot. We'd definitely recommend!

I think that what distinguishes…read moreit from a supermarket in this case is solely the availability of a few hot case items that I actually have seen in hot cases of some out-of-area asian/islander groceries. You've got some hot items like katsu, salmon, karaage, potato croquettes, and eggplant. I appreciate them having spam musubi, but it looks and tastes like it's wrapped in plastic and left under the heat lamp all day. Also, if you're gonna have musubi, you ought to have some sriracha, which they don't. The sushi is small and offerings are unremarkable. Appetizers are fairly standard, like inari and edamame, and miso soup, as well as some kind of kimchi. Rolls are mostly the basic California with the variety being the slice of fish laid on top of it. Only alternates are a veggie roll and a tempura shrimp roll. Soy sauce is free but you're charged extra for a pea-sized bit of wasabi along with pickled ginger. Kinda cutthroat. It's like selling hotdogs with mustard, but ketchup is extra. One standard roll, one musubi and tap water along with a tip came to $20. If you're fiending for katsu and are on a really tight lunch schedule, mayyyybe? Otherwise, I really do think it's overpriced for what it is. I don't get the comments on service. What service? Aside from the person at the register, service is nonexistent. Nobody is served at their table. Once you grab your items, the only person you interact with is the one ringing you up. No host, server, bartender, anything. So I really don't know what the initial volley of great reviews is all about. Seems thoroughly average to me.

Driving through Northern CA and did not expect such a filling and fun meal…read more This spot is definitely a Chinese, Korean, Japanese fusiony spot that I did not expect to find here. We ordered the Chinese Style Lamb Stew, Cheese Corn, Kung Pao Vegetables, and it came with a side of banchan. Every single dish here was absolutely delicious and piping hot! We ended up ordering a second plate of banchan because it was so good. The daikon radish had the most satisfying crunch and the others- cabbage and bean sprouts were very well pickled too! Cheese corn was sweet and honestly a good pairing with the very soury/ pickled soup. The kung pao vegetables would have definitely fooled me if I wasn't told it was mushroom. The batter holds on the oyster mushrooms just like chicken does. Well seasoned. Service was very impressive - there was a single waitress serving lots of tables. She had amazing recommendations and really seemed like she knew what she was doing. Very kind and attentive the entire time. Would love to return.
