We've liked the food before, but yelp shows the hours wrong, the website took our takeout lunch order at noon, charged us, said it would be ready in 20 minutes--then we showed up to get it and found them closed. Emailed to cancel; no way to leave a phone message. Idiots made our whole order anyway at 6 pm, instead of refunding us or checking to see if we still wanted it. Now we have to drag ourselves downtown a second time, eat it day old tomorrow. Never orderiing takeout from them again. Food at Izumi is superior anyway. read more

Horrible service, I asked about my food 5+ times as I waited for 3 hours to get 3 sushi rolls and 2 pieces of nigiri. They never called my name once and when I asked about it I got the same response of its going to be a while. After the last time I asked about my food, they miraculously found my order hidden behind the bar, far away from all the other orders. They then accused me of not listening for my name and said they had called out my name "so many times". I had been waiting in there for hours at that point and I asked other people also waiting if they had heard my name called and not a single person had. When I finally got my food, the sushi was lukewarm because they had left it sitting out for quite some time. When I finally got to eat my food the sushi was mediocre at best. Super slow service. There was a total of 5 customers in the restaurant and everything took FOREVER. From just getting water, to ordering, to getting out food, to receiving our check. The owners are so nice and friendly!! Sushi was good (I got the dragon roll and you can't really go wrong with that) but my favorite was the soft shell crab appetizer. Incredibly high waiting time, most of the tables left dirty after previous customers. Super disorganized, waitresses not paying attention to the guests. Even though there were only 2 tables occupied it took an HOUR for serving me. Can't even imagine what would happen if there were more than 5-6 guests at the same time. Took my girlfriend here on newyears eve to have some sushi and saké and the waitor refused to accept my ID. He told me that it was fake, when I know for a fact it was issued by the oregon DMV. He asked me to state my birthday, and show more cards from my wallet with my name on them, which I did without hesitation. He still did not accept. What was the point of making me empty my wallet? He said that he couldn't accept it because the "O" on the holographic "Oregon" overlay made contact with the birth year. I have to preface what I'm sure is going to be a very long and rambling monologue by stating that I've never written a review for anything in my life. I really only use Yelp so I can get an idea of what's around me when I travel. That being said, I felt compelled to write this. If only for my own sanity. Tl;dr at the bottom. I was wandering around downtown looking for a bite to eat and decided on Sushi Seoul because I had heard good things. I walk in to an empty restaurant at around 2pm. The only people inside are the chef/owner and one waitress. I'm greeted promptly and given a seat by the window with a water and a coke. After perusing the extensive menu, I decide on the small Nigiri platter. The Miso Soup was really good, but that's where it ends... Now, I know my fish. I can tell good fish from bad fish at a glance. I'm no snob though. I'll crush some conveyor belt spicy tuna all day long. However, what I got from Sushi Seoul was worse than gas station sushi in Norman, Oklahoma. Visually, it looked like they cut the fish with a 2 x 4. There were jagged edges on the tuna and salmon, and the yellowtail was slightly pulverized. No two pieces of fish or rice were the same size. Disappointed but determined, I decide to start with the sweet shrimp and finish with the egg. I always do this. Shrimp, then fish, then egg with a piece of picked ginger between each piece. Divine. But this was not that. It was hellish. The moment I put that tiny crustacean into my mouth, I knew something was terribly, horribly wrong. That first bite highlighted a variety of competing textures that one doesn't expect from something with only two ingredients. The rice was soft and crunchy and the shrimp had weird pockets of firmness surrounded by slime. With this fetid swamp wad in my mouth, I did what any self respecting adult would do..... I involuntarily regurgitated my food on to my plate with a very loud retching sound. The waitress looks up from rolling silverware with obvious concern. She gets up and asks me if I'm alright. All I manage to say is "It's bad." It takes me a good minute more to recover basic motor functions but when I do, I explain that I no longer have an appetite and I'd like to pay and leave. The waitress talks to the owner briefly, they comp my meal, I tip generously, and I leave. You might think the story ends here but it doesn't. I promised a long soliloquy and I meant it. As I'm walking home. My mind is consumed by the thought of what I had almost digested. How could it have possibly been that bad? There had to be an explanation. No one would knowingly serve something so awful. Would they? A half hour later, I am sitting at my desk still transfixed in thought. The shrimp was consuming my soul. I couldn't rest until I talked to whoever made my food. So I went back. It turns out that the Owner prepared my food and I got to speak to him personally. I'm not one to complain. Usually, I just shut up and eat. So for me to walk home and back to talk to this guy had already put me out of my comfort zone quite a bit. I just wanted clarity. I asked him "Are you proud of what you served me?" Not only was he proud of the food, he insisted that all of it was perfectly fine. He even began to explain to me why even the shrimp was fine. Lo and behold it was me who was mistaken! I must have imagined the toddlers art project plating, and the crunchy rice, and the poop line running through my regurgitated sweet shrimp! I was flabbergasted. I told the guy as much. I told him I thought that he saw a scruffy looking dude eating alone at an off-peak time and he figured to give me something less than ideal. I was giving him an opportunity to admit that it wasn't his best effort. But I have to give credit where credit is due. This man stands by his work. He expressed to me, again, under no uncertain terms, that what he had served me was the absolute best he could do. At that point I gave up on the man and on Sushi Seoul. The blatant lie was too much. I told him, with no exaggeration whatsoever, that that was the single worst piece of sushi I had ever eaten in my life, I apologized to the waitress, and I left. Forever. TL;DR A terrible piece of sushi dominates my thoughts for hours and the chef/owner tells me he's proud of it and it's his best work. Side note: The waitress was great in every way and understandably uncomfortable with the situation. She knew that food was bad. I think she would be fantastic at any other restaurant in town. read more

Absolutely would not recommend this restaurant. The service was slow, which is frustrating considering the restaurant was practically empty. The boba was mediocre, the tapioca tasted flavorless and had a strange texture. One of the items in our order, the potstickers, were not put in because our waiter Luke forgot. So we received our appetizer after our main course, and not only that, our main course took 30 minutes to arrive at the table. After leaving the restaurant my boyfriend got sick and we realized it was food poisoning from one of the things he ate at the restaurant. I called the restaurant to complain, and the manager was irresponsible and did not deal with the situation directly, and instead had Julie, a waitress there (who is very kind and understanding) talk to me. They only refunded us for the potstickers, even though the whole experience was unsatisfactory for multiple reasons. Please avoid this restaurant due to their poor service and inedible food. read more

We ordered from here on Postmates. When our food arrived, the lettuce of my salad was moldy (not just wilted, MOLDY) and then our shrimp tempura were not deveined. We thought it was a mistake of just one shrimp, but all of our shrimps were not deveined. We could not eat the rest of our meal because we were so grossed out. Just what Eugene needs, another Japanese/Korean restaurant with a plastic covered menu that is way too big for the kitchen to actually excel at anything. The restaurant that was in this space previously, Belly, was one of the rare restaurants in town that felt like an elegant place for grown-ups to have a cocktail and share some small plates. We didn't even know it had changed hands--the sign still said Belly--when we visited. We ordered a selection of mostly Japanese dishes, and they were okay-to-fine, but nothing was particularly special; kind of like the Americanized Asian food you can find near any college campus on the West Coast. Our waitress being apparently drunk, and then leaving the premises never to return halfway through our meal was pretty much the final straw. Belly, you will be missed. read more

I ordered the fried calamari for appetizer and it actually came after my main course, which already took a long time to arrive being raw fish after all. However, the calamari was so greasy and tasteless (no seasoning at all) it made my stomach turn after having two bites. I talked to the very friendly waiter, and I ended up returning it. Then, I hear the owner screaming all the way from the kitchen to the poor guy bc I asked not to be charged for that awful thing. She then had the audacity to come to me to argue why I was wrong. I couldn't even understand what she said bc she was talking so fast and agitated. It ruin my dinner and it's safe to say I will NEVER go back there. I just feel so bad for the waiter bc he was so graceful and professional. The owner should learn from her own employees how to treat her customers. read more

Came here when we arrived in Eugene. Basically wanted something quick but Japanese. So found this place on yelp and had good review. So decided to try it. Well it was just ok. We order chicken katsu and got burned chicken. The teriyaki sauce they mixed with it also turned it black! So asked them to redo and they said they are using this new breading for it and it will turn black. We didnt believe it and had them do it again. This time it came out lighter and the sauce on the side when we dipped the chicken in it was slightly yellow. So whatever they dis w the first it was burned no matter what they said. The price here is slightly steep also. So not sure why people gave such good results. The lighting was dark and we ended up using our iPhone light to see the food. Sad! Will definitely come back here. Will try another place. read more

I chose this for pick up because I wanted ramen and bubble tea. Staff was very nice and efficient, and I liked the atmosphere when I went to pick it up. However, the broth wasn't flavorful and I found a hair in it. Yuck. Also have to say I'm not a fan of the super thick seaweed. read more

Sushi Seoul has been my go to for excellent quality, fantastic variety and warm welcoming service for years. You get two stars rather than one because everyone has an off night. But this was very off. Even though it was a very busy night, the service was warm and friendly. The tamago was good. Unfortunately, that's the end of the good news. Here's the thing - sushi is about trust. It HAS to be fresh. It has to be good fish. So here's the bad news. Instead of firm and red, my maguro was brownish purple and soft... It felt a bit like eating an organ. It was also a little iridescent, like the preaervatives you can see on cheap deli meat. The hamachi was just a little old, so it tasted fishy. The Texas role has both in it, but I soldiered bravely on. The end piece had a big chunk of something hanging out and all of a sudden it seemed slimy and soft in my mouth and I was literally gagging. I'm not normally squeemish, I've been eating sushi for years. Decades. But it's hard to keep eating once you don't trust the fish. I tried a slice of B52 and got a big gob of fish eggs. Normally I like them, but that was a lot all at once and I was already having trouble. You are a treat for us... a little spendy, but the quality has always been there. I can't see driving to eugene, finding parking downtown and paying those prices if the quality isn't there. Sushi is trust. You can't put old or bad fish on the table. not just for sushi fans! they have great tempura. and the udon has a deep flavor. i recommend the fried salmon bento box, and some bubble tea. yum! service is a little bit slower since moving to the new location which is the only reason it is not a 5 star review. the new employees should check in more often, like it was on Willakenzie Rd. read more
