Roku's Fusion. My favorite cocktail here.
    Nikki B.

Roku means Six in Japanese and the establishment's name is a tribute to the six original partners who created the brand. I used to frequent this place back in the day. It's one of the few sushi restaurants with a full bar. There was a time that you'd find me dining at the bar practically every weekend. It's been remolded since then and the menu has also been revamped. However, I'm happy that the Roku's Fusion is still on the menu. It's my cocktail of choice here. The layout is open and airy and the décor emits a sleek, sexy vibe. My friend & I stopped in for a light bite. They had just opened for lunch so it was fairly empty. Our server was darling and attentive. Of course, I ordered the Roku's Fusion and my friend a Sapporo. We shared Yellow Tail & Albacore Sashimi. My cocktail was delicious and the sashimi was buttery soft & fresh. Happy Hour is Mon - Fri (4:30 - 6 pm) and offers some good deals. The lunch special is also worth checking out and is available FRI - Sun (11:30 - 3 pm). *Metered street parking or nearby parking garages.

The quality of the fish is always on POINT! I have been coming here for some time and I never leave disappointed. The service is always exceptional. I make it a point to ask for Liana if she is working. I came in this past Monday and she always takes such good care of our table. She is so attentive and welcoming. Her knowledge of the menu is unmatched. Anything she recommends, I know I'm going to love! She definitely makes the dinning experience that much more enjoyable!

This spot never disappoints! We took advantage of their happy hour and enjoyed a great selection of fresh, flavorful dishes paired with exceptional customer service from start to finish. The Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna was crispy, savory, and packed with flavor. The Spicy Salmon Cut Roll is always a must order and was just as delicious as I remembered. The Katana Roll was decadent as always, beautifully prepared and full of rich, satisfying flavors. We chose to sit outdoors, which was lovely, but the energy inside was incredible with a live DJ spinning music that really elevated the overall vibe. Between the fresh sushi, attentive service, and lively atmosphere, this was an all-around great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back for more!

Had dinner at Sushi Roku with my co workers and I'm so grateful since Sushi Roku has been on my list for a while :) We came on a Monday night at around dinner and we pretty much got seated immediately and the food came out so fast. Service was amazing, he kept coming back to our table and ensure we liked everything. We ordered: - Hamachi Serrano - Vegetables Tempura - Spicy Cucumber Sunomono - Spicy Tuna Hanabi - Spicy Miso Soup - Sushi Plate - Complimentary Banana Bread Pudding Cake - Complimentary Volcano Cake My favorites were the hamachi crudo, spicy tuna hanabi, and the sushi plate. The spicy miso soup was a bit too spicy - the spiciness lowkey ruined the miso flavor for me. The food was pretty good... but not memorable. I'd say this is a standard sushi restaurant but I give it extra points for the presentation. I loveee a dimly lit restaurant with a nice ambiance. The presentation was 10/10 for me :) I would likely come back if I'm ever in the area or if a friend wants to try this spot out. I don't think I'd come back on my own or suggest it though.

I am disappointed to say sushi roku really went down hill in their food quality and service. This was my regular go to place years ago, came back for the memories but man... Our order took 30 minutes we were about to cancel our order and just walk out but our server was so apologetic and nice we decided to stay but the food was even more disappointing. The rolls were so poorly made and the rice crackers on the gensai roll DOES NOT BELONG THERE I was shocked. Sad to say sushi roku it's not the same anymore.

I've been here once before a long time ago and had amazing sashimi. This time got garlic edamame, spicy tuna crispy rice & spicy sunomono, crab hand roll & yellowtail nigiri, chicken fried rice & mochi ice cream and all tasted amazing! We got to sit outside so we had the beautiful sunny view of the ocean and had an amazing time!!!

All around good time! Stumbled upon this place by accident. Had plans to meet up with some friends at another restaurant nearby but it wasn't open yet, so we decided to come here for dinner and cocktails. We sat outside but the inside layout is very cool, slightly dim, full liquor and sushi bar nice seating arrangement. The serving staff was great from start to finish. We ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner, all brought to the table in a timely manner. We tried several items, seaweed salad, shishito peppers, spicy edamame, eel sashimi, spicy tuna rolls, shrimp fried rice and Chilean sea bass (my favorite). Everything was delicious. For cocktails, Ueshima Old Fashioned, Toki Tamashi and Tropical Hibiscus until round 2 where Shoman Glory was ordered for all, a refreshing tequila cucumber blend. Awesome time.

Cool location you can walk around and check out before or after eating.

Love this place. Definitely a nice romantic spot. Food was amazing! We enjoyed the White Lotus, Tuna Jalapeño, Katana, soft shell crab, and my FAVE-GENSAI Roll. We also ordered the Pork Belly Fried Rice ( wasn't on the menu) and that was delicious too - I only wish they put more kimchi , and pork belly, and I think if the skin was crispy it would taste even better! The fried egg was perfect- crispy around the edges and runny in the middle Their Tropical Hibiscus cocktail was yummy! Sweet, tart, fruity, and strong!! Service was wonderful. The staff is friendly and attentive. Located in a cool area with other shops to walk around after dinner and take photos.. And you can scan a QR code at your table to pay.

    Yellowtail (lunch special)

My boyfriend and I came here for a casual Saturday afternoon lunch. They fortunately have weekend lunch specials, which can be hard to find in Pasadena! We ordered the yellowtail add-ons as starters (each order is 2 pieces - $7). We each ordered the handroll combo (3 pieces and choices of: California, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, vegetable). Very appreciative of the extra ginger I requested! I recommend parking on the Union Street bridge and walking over - less crowded and less expensive than the parking garages nearby. You will have a 2 hour limit and can pay with coins or in app.

Are we so fresh and delicious. We love coming here for happy hour because it is such a good deal. Ask them to see you outside because the courtyard is gorgeous! And Christina is on point with service.

After watching a documentary movie about the legendary Japanese chef Nobu, I suddenly craved some American-influenced sushi, and Sushi Roku came to mind, as I had noticed their restaurant while visiting Las Vegas and have heard a lot about their Pasadena location. Nobu so far still remains my top choice when it comes to trendy, American-influenced Japanese cuisine, as I have had great experiences at their original Beverly Hills location and their weekend brunch buffet. Still, I was curious to see how Sushi Roku would compare. Since I know that American style sushi targets a very different clientele from traditional Japanese sushi or omakase, I went in with an open mind and adjusted expectations accordingly. I made a reservation and visited on a weekend afternoon. We were seated quickly. The restaurant wasn't too busy, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Service was prompt, though one of the cocktails we ordered turned out to be unavailable that day, a small disappointment, and it turned out to be a sign of a less-than-satisfying dining experience, especially since the cocktail we wanted was featured all over Yelp photos, that was actually one of the main reasons I decided to visit, but unfortunately, it wasn't available. The sashimi appetizer was just okay, as the fish slices were so thin that there wasn't much flavor and texture from the fish itself, with most of the taste coming from the oil and sauce. The sushi set didn't stand out either. The sushi rice was not cooked and prepared well. While the nigiri looked decent, the freshness of the fish wasn't at the premium level you'd expect for the price. The chirashi bowl was even more disappointing. Poor variety and thin slices of fish, and the same tasteless sushi rice. I would definitely suggest skipping that dish and perhaps trying a sushi roll or a cooked item instead. Surprisingly, the fried rice was actually not bad. In my opinion, the best way to enjoy Sushi Roku is to treat it more like an izakaya style restaurant, even though it presents itself as a sushi place. Overall, food quality is the foundation of any successful restaurant brand, and while Sushi Roku may have enjoyed its glory days in the past, competition today is much stronger in the same price range. I might return for a drink and some light bites considering its prime location and great dining environment and service, but it's not a place I'd spend too much on for the sushi itself. I am hoping Sushi Roku Pasadena can be improved soon, even if it doesn't quite achieve the sophistication of its more famous peers, but it still has the potential to be a better sushi restaurant again.

Oh. My. Gosh. I've lived in Pasadena for so long and have never thought to try this place out. The albacore sushi was INCREDIBLE! I ordered 2 more, so flavorful, no soy sauce needed. The Brussels chips were amazing as well, just a tad salty but still good! Cute place, perfect for a date night or girls night. Customer service was also amazing.

    Jessica N.

I came here for Valentine's Day and had a reservation at 3:30. We arrived about 10 mins early and they sat us immediately which we loved. The only reason I am knocking off a star is because after we were sat down it did take pretty long for a server to come and assist us. Other than that they were prompt in every other area. We did the chefs selection for 2 at $78 per person and we had a couple drinks with the meal as well. The drinks were served promptly and were on point. The fish was all really fresh and was delicious. I had never had raw sushi ever so I was so nervous but decided to give it a try given the special occasion and I'm so glad it did. My favorite was the yellow tail. It was the best fish of the night in every single meal. We also had the Brussels sprout chips which were surprisingly good! They seated us at a high table which I didn't really care for but that isn't a deal breaker and the restaurant was busy that day. The restaurant was clean and so were the bathrooms and the lighting was neutral with romantic music playing. Over all I liked the vibe and parking isn't too far from the location. Overall I definitely recommend this location for a date night even for a picky eater like myself I really enjoyed everything.

The tempura batter was great and the seafood was nice and plump. -Tendon Combo with Cold Udon: Same notes for the tempura here, the batter was great and the tempura here is on another level. The karaage had a solid fry, and wasn't greasy at all while being both crunchy and juicy. The sauce was a creamy and spicy and paired well with the chicken. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious although a bit on the sweeter side - the egg was very well marinated and the chashu generous and flavorful. - Tokyo set with tuna don (5/5): Also came with soba noodles, miso soup, and tsukemono. The tuna don had a generous portion of tuna and rice. It tasted fresh and was a simple and well executed dish that satisfies your cravings. The soba noodles were a surprise to me. I didn't expect the soba noodles to be in a sauce with a string sesame oil consistency and taste. It was refreshing yet a bit heavier as a result. I also love the variety of fish provided with it. Overall (5/5): Disclaimer - we came here late April. But this is a gem in Pasadena that we wished we visited sooner! The lunch deals have very generous portions for the price and we were super stuffed after. We also were quite impressed with the execution of the tsukemono which looked like canned vegetables mixed with mushrooms that were pickled together for an unexpectedly rich flavor. The vibes of the establishment are modern and tasteful, and we really liked how spacious it was. Service was also solid. Overall we hope to be back to further explore the menu!
