The concept is genuinely fun, and it's probably the biggest reason to visit. Every plate costs the same ($3.59), making it easy to try a variety of items without worrying about different prices. The restaurant is clean, the seating is comfortable, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the experience. We tried most of the sushi rolls that came by, and the biggest issue was the rice. Since sushi is my favorite food, I pay close attention to the quality of the rice, and this was by far the weakest part of the meal. It was overly soft, sticky, and overcooked, giving many of the rolls an unpleasant texture. The fish itself tasted fresh, which I appreciated, but the rice overpowered the entire experience. We also ordered the takoyaki, and it was disappointing. The outside was thick, while the inside felt undercooked and almost mushy. The amount of octopus was reasonable, but the texture kept us from enjoying it. For dessert, we tried the Nutella fried takoyaki. The ice cream and whipped cream were perfectly fine, but the fried dough itself was thick and dry inside. It wasn't a bad dessert, but it wasn't memorable either. Overall, I think Tsubame is worth visiting once for the experience. Watching the sushi rotate around the restaurant is fun, especially if you've never been to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant before. However, if you're looking for outstanding sushi, there are much better options in Utah. The concept is excellent, the service is good, and the fish seemed fresh, but the quality of the rice and some of the hot dishes kept us from wanting to come back. If you're going for the experience, you'll probably have a good time. If you're going primarily for great sushi, you may leave disappointed.

If you arrive before 3:00 pm, do yourself a favor and order from the combo lunch menu. For a good price, you get miso soup, white rice, pork gyoza, and tempura vegetables, and then choose two items from a list that includes chicken, rolls, and sashimi. The gyoza and tempura alone are worth calling out, both done well. I went with the spicy tuna roll and steak teriyaki and did not regret either choice. Now for the rolls. The Tsunami Roll is the signature and it earns that title, order it without hesitation. The Spicy Masa and Fire Breathing Dragon round out my personal top three and I have yet to be disappointed by any of them. The two areas where they could level up: the wait for food is longer than the lunch setting calls for, so come with patience and plan accordingly. And for a restaurant with rolls this photogenic, a printed menu with photos would go a long way.

You know the fishy taste you get when it is not fresh. Rice in the roll was not properly cooked, was al dente-this is big no. They have house made ice cream which we ordered three different flavors: vanilla, coconut & strawberry. They were Amazing! My 3 stars is for their sush roll.

We were celebrating my son's 13th birthday with a group of 12 people, including two young kids, and everything exceeded our expectations. I accidentally made the reservation for the wrong number of people, so we did have to wait a little longer before being seated. That was completely my mistake, and honestly, it wasn't an issue at all since we weren't in a hurry. The wait actually flew by because the kids loved watching the beautiful koi pond. It was spotless, peaceful, and such a nice touch that kept everyone entertained. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Amanda, who immediately made us feel welcome. She had the biggest smile, was incredibly friendly, and treated us like valued guests from the moment we arrived. You could genuinely tell she enjoys what she does, and her positive attitude set the tone for the entire evening. Then our teppanyaki chef, Cornelius, came to our table, and within minutes we knew we were in for a great experience. He was polite, personable, and genuinely hilarious. He kept everyone engaged--from the adults to the kids--with his fun personality and entertaining cooking, but what impressed us even more was just how talented he is as a chef. The food was cooked perfectly. We had promised our son he could finally try Kobe beef for his birthday, and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
