I wanted to branch out from my usual ayce sushi spot and I think this place is worth checking out. I know it's fairly new to the Depaul area so I waited a little bit to try cause I read all the bad reviews about the service. Once you walk in, the vibe gives an intimate dining setting. The main complaint from this place is that the service is bad but that wasn't the case for me. Yes, it was a little slow but it wasn't the worst I've ever experienced. I like how they have different items on their appetizer menu that I haven't seen at other places (ex. Spam musubi, teriyaki ribeye, etc). I will say their sushi felt lighter to me compared to others. Overall I think their food is decent but not better than my usual spots. read more

Sushi is mid, plenty of other better spots in the area, certainly not "premium." The manager who serves at the hostess was extremely rude to us and refused to let us order more than a single boat. The rest of the wait staff was sympathetic, but ultimately our entire table paid for all you can eat, but we were refused more than one order. On top of that, our first order was missing rolls and had some we didn't order. So we were completely unsatisfied The wait staff offered us a discount but the manager had to approve, and she hid in the back to refuse. I would not recommend this place under shady management that mistreats customers like that. Should've known a place with a tacky name and clanker servers would not have good service. read more

All you can eat sushi place in Chicago! This restaurant had plenty to choose from and was reasonably priced as well. My only complaint is that the sushi rice didn't taste as fresh but it was still delicious nonetheless. The fish itself was fresh and all came out pretty quick. Sushi Payce - Nigiri - Sushi Bars Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

The sushi itself was decent, nothing amazing, but acceptable for a buffet. Unfortunately, the experience was really soured by the management. There was no clear explanation of the leftover policy at any point: not when we were seated, not when ordering, and not during the meal. Throughout the meal, the manager kept smiling and watching while I was eating, which felt a bit uncomfortable at the time (though I later understood why lol) At the end, the manager charged us for leftovers, specifically the rice underneath the nigiri, because I ate the fish but didn't finish all the rice. If this policy had been clearly explained upfront, I would have ordered differently or avoided nigiri altogether. The manager later said I should have ordered sashimi instead of nigiri, but that option wasn't even available on the menu, and she said this while smiling in a way that felt uncomfortable given the situation I understand restaurants wanting to prevent waste, but policies need to be clearly communicated in advance, and the way this was handled felt unreasonable and unnecessary. Overall, food was okay, but the lack of transparency and management attitude really hurt the experience read more

I've tried a bunch of AYCE sushi spots and this one will become a staple for me. Best appetizers by far and they don't skimp you on the amount of fish. Everything I've tried has been good read more

Now, let me start off by saying i love a good AYCE sushi spot. I had high expectations for Sushi Payce after seeing decent reviews of it on social media and online. The positives: the quality of the sushi was pretty good. I'm someone who loves sashimi and nigiri when it comes to sushi, and Sushi Payce had both on the AYCE menu (*though for every sashimi plate you want to order, you have to order 2 sushi rolls alongside it as well). The not so positive: the service was pretty slow. You could definitely tell that bigger groups were prioritized over tables of 2 or 3 (ie, servers would bring out to your food slower, check on you less, slower for drink refills etc). Some of the non-sushi menu items were also bad: for example, the soft shell crab was definitely not fresh & tasted/ smelled bad; the steak was VERY undercooked and basically inedible. read more

Oh. My. Goodness!! Do yourself a favor and book a reservation asap!!! My partner and I LOVE sushi. So when we saw a new AYCE sushi place open up we HAD to check it out! He was able to make a reservation via Yelp for Friday at 8:30! Upon arrival we were seated within 3 mins! It did take a while to get water and for our server to come by. But it was Friday night, there was a 25 person birthday party next to us, a bit annoying but not the restaurants fault. (They were loud, kept moving around and a bit rude to the service staff.) Once our food arrived we quickly changed our focus! The rockin shrimp is amazing!! Highly recommend!! My favorite roll was the King Kong! They also have a fantastic drink menu!! Perfect place to bring hungry teens ( or adults ) during the week for their super economical lunch special. For 23$ you get all you can eat and the menu is very extensive. In general I'm not a huge fan of all you can eat but the price was so reasonable it didn't matter I didn't eat a lot. Good nigiri, rolls, soup , salad. Drinks are extra. Service was good. Was it the best sushi I have ever had? No, but solidly good and economical too. My teens LOVE it here read more

So I haven't had sushi since before I was pregnant.. (our daughter is 3 months to give context) this was my first time having it again. The sushi here was alright. Idk if my taste buds have changed or if it was just ok. We had the two rolls in the picture & their Godzilla roll. The Godzilla roll was fine. None of them was necessarily nasty, I just thought that I'd love it the next time I had sushi and these rolls didn't hit me exactly like that. But the place was really nice. It had a nice date night feel which is what we were going for but it also was casual which felt relaxing.. exactly what we were looking for at the time. The service was also good. Everyone was nice, checked up on us at all the right times and was smiling. read more

I've heard many good things about this new AYCE spot and so I had to come try it myself. They have a big menu selection with creative entrees and delicious drinks. My favorites were their crispy rice appetizer and ikura nigiri - both were very memorable.  Though the overall food quality was good, we were disappointed with the long wait time. We were told that it would be a 40-min wait, yet we ended up waiting for over 2 hours before getting seated. The hostess did not address us when we checked-in, and she brushed us off the second time when we tried to check-in again.  Besides that, we had an alright experience as the food lived up to the hype. If I were to visit again, I would come back during lunch hours. read more

All you can eat sushi?! What's not to love, right? I love sushi. LOVE. When walking in, there's a very strong fragrance. Not fishy but room freshener... maybe to cover the fish smell? Not sure. Regardless. It gave me a headache. But I might be sensitive... The space is set up so pretty. Someone put a lot of thought into that and you can tell. The service is SUPER sweet. And pretty attentive. The sushi is good. The appetizers were okay. I wasn't crazy about the flavor of the batter they use for tempura. I was so excited about their crab on the appetizer list but that did fall short. Because of the batter. They have street parking that you have to pay for. read more

I'm more of a 3.5 stars than a 4 but wanted to call out a few things. Overall, the food was good! I felt like the fish and appetizers were well prepared, and tasted fresh enough. However, they really struggle with the fish to rice ratio. There was so much rice on the nigiri, I tasted more rice than fish, which never is a good sign. They were really busy, and did their best to keep up despite being down some people. I appreciated their effort to get food out in a timely manner, however it took a while too. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice to go back but it was alright for an AYCE spot. read more

The food was good and the initial person serving us was quite helpful. Loved the service overall. When it came time to pay the bill, however, another waitress that didn't serve us brought the check. She essentially was harassing us to pay a tip. She said again and again that the recommended tip is 18%. Okay? Like shouldn't I be the one to decide what I pay? (We paid a 15% tip). I hope the restaurant is paying their workers and this isn't a case of illegal exploitation of services because this person was making it seem as if she doesn't even get paid. Someone should report the restaurant to the authorities to ensure that there's no shady business and that the staff is being paid their earned wages. Ruined an otherwise good experience. Literally was so excited to make this our next AYCE sushi spot, but I don't think the good food is worth the harassment faced when paying the bill. PS: other reviews also share the same experience of forced tipping. Please pay your servers well for expected work they would do being servers in a restaurant so they don't harass customers. If they're told to do work outside of their scope as waiters, then it would make sense to force people to pay them for those tasks. Please also don't ingrain in them the idea that the tip amount dictates how their work was - that's a horrible policy to have as an employer. read more

Amazing Service from one of their servers named WINN!! When we arrived at the restaurant, the place was packed and the queue stretched out to the sidewalks, it gave me the indication that this place serves beyond "decent" flavor, quality, and service. Winn was our server last night and I couldn't help but when observing how the front of the house ran the floor seamlessly, Winn had made sure to apply impeccable hospitality to her guests despite the rush the floor was having. It felt like being fed by a caring sister or a family/friend that you have not seen for a long time and that she was so glad that you finally got to visit!! The food was amazing for such a small price that they charge. I never trusted AYCE places especially when they price is so cheap because I came from 10 years restaurant experience as a Sous & Head Chef at Michelin & James Beard restaurants that serves high quality food & premium omakases, but this place humbled me into trying food outside of the what I only had interest in. My wife brought me to this place the day I landed as she couldn't stop talking about taking me to this place that she had went to more than 5 times already. She was slightly nervous because of my food standards but the fact that i kept ordering had shown her how much I liked the place. Highlight of the night: 1. Great food and even more greater service! read more

I went here with a large group. It was easy to make a reservation online. My party and I had all enjoyed our food. The quality of the sushi was spot on for an all-you can eat place. The garlic edamame, fried oysters, and soft shell crab were outstanding. The agedashi tofu wasn't the normal soft tofu that is used for this dish. I would also pass on the ribeye teriyaki. I really enjoyed all the rolls and nigiri we ordered as well. The yellow tail torched was amazing. I loved the sweetness of the fish. You can't go wrong with any of the sushi. I wish with the price it came with a drink, whether it be tea or a soft drink. I came her for dinner on a weekend so it was $32.99. However they did provide free mochi ice cream dessert which is a plus. I will come back here again for sushi. read more

A beautiful space, a full bar, the dining room is romantic and I've heard so many good things about Payce. I'll really need to come back for their happy hours 4-6pm BOGO cocktails $1 additional and $3 beers, what great deal! Anyway I went for lunch, since I usually try everything on the menu almost and only could handle the earlier dining time. I believe lunch is $22.99 per adult, children 3 and under free, older kids 19.99, younger kids $14.99. they did have a couple of high chairs available, and we were the first to arrive in on a Monday at 11:30am when they opened. There is only about a dozen things on dinner vs lunch menu, which didn't really impact us too much as we ordered (the server informed if there was any limits and suggested alternatives if not available on the lunch menu). The staff was friendly and offered good suggestions on variations of my favorites. Their menu is fully digital via QR code and to order, the server takes the order table side. We started off with a variety of appetizers. My brother is a regular and he said he would come just for the fried oysters and rock shrimp appetizers. So of course we had that, along with ika salad, calamari, sashimi salad, shiu mai, spring rolls, agadashi tofu, chicken karagge, edamame, tempura, takoyaki, rock shrimp They really know how to handle the fry station, everything was yummy and good texture. Unfortunately, I stepped away when all the dishes came so I didn't get any help photos (my kids were hungry). Seems like everything comes with their own sauce for dipping, which was fun. Then came out the rolls. Angry dragon, Godzilla roll, spider roll. Our family really enjoys the hamachi rolls with green onions and we ordered that (don't think it was on the menu but they made it for us). It was really flavorful with fresh green onions and bite sized roll pieces - we had maybe 9 of these rolls in total - my littles kept grabbing them before I snapped my photos. The miso soup was a hit with our table as well. The spicy scallop nigiri was really good, don't think I usually see that on menus, white tuna was super smooth (one of my favorites - I know...it's not really tuna but I like the texture better than tuna). Salmon pieces were huge as well. For dessert, we had mochi ice cream (mango and strawberry) and also cotton candy for the kiddies. They were super happy and definitely had alot of energy and silliness after dessert. I really like some of the different appetizers and variations that Payce offers on their lunch menu. The kitchen really cranks out the appetizers quickly, and I'd recommend coming during the weekdays for lunch as it's not too busy and I think that's a plus. Surprisingly this time we didn't over order, perhaps my kids could just eat more these days, and I'm surprised they had two miso soups each. The must gets I would come back for myself are: Spicy scallop nigiri Fried oysters Agedashi tofu Ika salad Hamachi green onion maki (negi hamachi maki) Hmmm...I'll maybe I should just take the whole menu again. Good experience will be back. read more

Overall a decent AYCE sushi meal. This was my first time here, I've frequented the other AYCE sushi places prior and decided to come here and check this one out. We came for a weekday lunch and with the lunch they have about 10 less item offerings. We ordered a variety of appetizers, specialty rolls, regular rolls, nigiri and even dessert. They came out in a reasonable amount of time. The nigiri was fresh and a decent fish to rice ratio, though I felt like the rice increased on the later nigiri we ordered. Service was good, the staff was friendly. I found myself clearing my own platters and such as there was only 2 staff for the entire restaurant on that day. I'm not sure if I would come back here as I think the quality is better elsewhere. But overall a decent meal for what it was. read more

Great addition to the AYCE space for the same price as Taku! This spot is kind of near Pequods and there is more parking available than other busy places. The building is big and roomy and was only half filled when we went on a weeknight. We had none of the issues described by other reviews for service: everything came out SUPER fast and they were really nice. Rolls were not the best I ever had but still tasty. Same with the plain nigiri cuts but this place stands out with its unique nigiri choices like torched items that were REALLY GOOD and sashimi plates. You do need to order one roll per sashimi plate. They also have some cool appetizers like buns and musubi. Drink choices are also really awesome and reasonably priced. Wish they had more flavors for Mochi but it tasted homemade. read more

Don't let the friendly staff fool you--this place is a nightmare in disguise. The fish tasted a little off, but I didn't think much of it until I spent the entire night regretting every bite. When I found out about this place I knew I wanted to try it because their ayce menu is has so much variety and is way different options to other ayce sushi places in chicago. The one thing that pushed me off from trying was hearing about their bad service since this place is on the pricier side. However!! My friends and I received pretty good standard service! They were attentive to us when ordering and giving us water especially as busy as it was on a friday night. We left with a really good impression especially on how tasty everything was! We loved how the sashimi was seasoned and sauced up to elevate some more flavor. The nigiri had an standard rice to fish ratio, but definitely their cuts are bigger than other ayce restaurants in chicago which is super nice. All the fish and seafood seemed to be super fresh and melts in your mouth. They also put a lot of care into each one such as torching up the squid a little, placing a jalapeno slice on the yellowtail, and even a lil wasabi on the white tuna. The specialty maki rolls were soo good too and were very unique in creation because I've definitely never had this kind of complexity before at an ayce place!! There was also no a lot of rice wrapping around and more heavier on its filling or fish! Nice range of apps, but our highlight in coming back is definitely the sushi!! Worth the price and some more :)) read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating. I went for lunch and loved everything about this place. First off, the building is stunning. I loved eating in their open sunroom with plenty of natural light. They also have lovely cherry blossom decor (my fave flower). We were seated right away. The service was not an issue for us. Our servers were attentive, kind, and always checking in. Our food and drinks arrived quickly. I can see how service can be slower on busier days/nights but given that it's an AYCE sushi place, it's understandable. The food was delicious and their menu had way more options than any other AYCE place I've been to. The pieces were larger than some of the other places too. They were also able to accommodate my avocado allergy so I could enjoy some of their rolls which I appreciated. I left very full but very happy and with lunch being about $23/pp, I felt like I got my money's worth! I can't wait to go back! read more

TL;DR: worth a try! Will be back! Service: I read many reviews regarding bad service. I came in with an expectation that I may have "bad service" but we had a great service. Servers were super friendly. I dined at 5pm on a Friday night as a walk in. By the time I was leaving, there were 2 robots, 3 servers, and one hostess. I took a peek in the kitchen and the sushi chefs were working so hard. We ordered a variety of appetizers -Spicy Kani salad: Very refreshing.
