My husband and I popped by for some casual drinks on the weekend. They had a bunch of holiday decor up which was a very nice ambiance and it was nice and warm inside but not too crowded. We didn't have food, only drinks as we came straight from dinner. We asked our server for recommendations that weren't too sweet. I got the gingerbread milk punch and my husband got the their take on an espresso martini with mezcal and Japanese coffee. I got the milk punch cold, and while good I think getting it warm would've brought the spices out more. Definitely wasn't too sweet though and tasted like there was no alcohol in there!! The drink my husband got I LOVED!! Usually I'm not a mezcal espresso martini gal but it was just smoky enough, complex, and delicious. When we go back, I'll be getting that next! Bonus: our server was so nice and helpful!! She gave great recommendations based on what we were asking for and was friendly. Overall we liked Mordecai and will be back when we're feeling a more upscale cocktail bar vibe. read more

Mordecai is an upscale restaurant right in the heart of Wrigley. It's cute inside and we were able to get a table for two without a reservation on a Friday night. We were in the mood for girl dinner, so we had their caesar salad, a cocktail, and for dessert, earl grey creme brulee. The salad was actually better than I expected because they used butter lettuce instead of iceberg lettuce, and they used crumbled croutons so you got a little with every bite. I would go back just for this! The cocktails were good. I rarely find ones with Malort in them! The earl grey creme brûlée was good and I really liked the marshmallow on top. read more

Was blown away by this menu, both their drinks and food. Location and ambiance were just a plus to the entire experience. Located conveniently outside of Wrigley Field, this fancy-ish bar serves a wide range of alcoholic drinks and upscale American food. Here's what we ordered - - Palenta fries: HUGE bricks topped in parmesan and served with garlic aioli (to die for) - Cheese curds: As a cheese curd connoisseur, I approve. - Concession cola: I didn't think I'd like this cocktail because I'm not huge on dark soda, but I was wrong. Just the right amount of sweetness and carbonation made for a great cocktail. - At the warning track: Reposed tequila with a hint of grapefruit and Chile amaro to spice it up. Tasted like an alcoholic Thai tea to me! Bar service was great, everyone was super kind and personable. Fancy decor and table settings would make for a great date spot. This is one of our favorite pregame restaurants for our cubs. Tonight changed this opinion. They have taken away the two best spots in the place. Their menu remains small, food good, service is very good. The value of our meals was horrible. The hamburger was once awesome is now mediocre at best. It is sized 10-20% of a massive bun. The small portion of swordfish was completely smothered in peppercorns and was over $40 without any veggie or starch. The $36 GLASS of Oregon white wine was very overpriced. Mordecai is a cool space with a unique decor and cocktail lounge vibe. We sat at the bar and had some tasty craft cocktails made by a very knowledgeable bartender before our dinner plans down the street, but the food menu looked awesome as well. As an added bonus, they had cocktails on the menu that proceeds benefited a local charity - love that! Will be back to try the food. read more

Landon was our server and he was attentive, informative, super helpful, kind, and hilarious. That man was the reason for this 5 star review. The food was really good too! We got drinks, apps, and entrees. The drinks were the weakest part, as was the Caesar salad, but the polenta fries, the east AND west coast oysters, the raw wagyu, the burger and the fries (my favorite part were the fries), and the crispy potatoes were all phenomenal. Went here for our first time to try the Monday burger special, which includes their delicious hamburger with a beer and a shot for $20. The atmosphere is lovely. The service was nice. The burger was delicious as were the fries in beef fat. The shot was an Amaro which was delicious, but the beer was a can of Champagne Velvet, which was pretty bad. Much like a Hamms. We walked over right after the Cubs game since it's literally across the street from Wrigley Field. We wanted some cocktails after the game. We walked up and were immediately seated at the end of bar with a great view of the stadium and Gallager Way - we could hear the band playing and had some front row people watching as the fans left the stadium after the game. They had the windows open since the weather was nice. The bartender quickly took our order and we had some finely crafted in had in short order. We ordered a couple more drinks and enjoyed the scene as the fans thinned out. It was a great post-game place to relax. Great staff and great drinks. Popped in on a Thursday night, a lot of seating was available but we sat at the bar. Ordered the oysters, east coast, very fresh and delish! The burger was the star! Big burger and super juicy and flavorful. Perfect after a long day or if you're craving a burger. We also had a dirty martini and old fashion, but made very well. The martini was perfect and my boyfriend loved the old fashion, it is a whiskey bar! We also stopped in for drinks a few weeks later and they were able to seat us no problem. We stopped in for dinner after visiting the Kris Kindl market at Wrigley. The decor was modern and festive - it felt very Christmas but done well in a modern restaurant. We had a very attentive waiter who also knew a lot about the food. We started with oysters and the house mignonette was maybe the best I've ever had. It was light and tasty but ensured the oyster flavors were most prominent. I did manage to take some pictures of our food and these were all great! The gnocchi was light and fluffy, I'm not sure that I would call the meatballs spicy but they were tasty. The carrots were great and the short ribs were tender. Located right across the street from Wrigley Field. We decided to come here because there was a very long line heading to the L, so we decided to just get a drink and wait it out. They have a big window area that they leave open, so if you are looking to cool off at this place, then you'll be sweating it out. Although they had the a/c running, having the window open, basically negates all of that cold air. We both got drinks, an ice tea & banana split sundae. Word to the wise, don't get the ice tea as it's a 16oz, bottle for $8. The cocktails was good and refreshing. Although I found that the chairs are super hard and not cushioned at all. So that kind of took away from the experience a bit. The banana split was pretty creative as it had dehydrated banana bits and not a whole fresh one. Although, chewy, it actually tasted like a banana split. Since I'm lactose, I didn't eat too much of it, but I thought it was pretty good. read more

I was going to come here and tell you about the great drinks we had when we first came here. But this place made such an impression on us we came back the very next weekend. First, the cocktail menu is strong. With a significant list on spiritless cocktails. Get the half cent bird. It's one of the best mocktails I've ever had. There all good though as we tried 4 or so more of them too. Food is fantastic too. The fried cheese curds were some of the best too with some fried pickles thrown on top. I devoured everything they've given us here. The short rib. The kale salad. I never order shrimp but loved their steak and shrimp entree. For our second visit we got a reservation in the popup valentines thing they do upstairs. It was awesome. Great variety of scenery. And chill atmosphere to enjoy date night. I can't wait to come back. It's on the shortlist of places I want to come back to as soon as I can. read more

Definitely deserves its spot in the Michelin guide! I live right down the street but for some reason never made it in here until recently, but I'm glad I did. I didn't need a reservation or anything, they were able to seat us right away in a nice corner booth spot. It has a really nice dimmed dinner ambiance, not loud or overly crowded at all. I didn't grab a drink this time around but the burger was amazing! One of the best burgers I've had in Chicago. I wanted to go back the next day to have it again. This seems to be one of the few places in Chicago now that charges $20 for a burger and actually gives you fries with it AND doesn't charge you for toppings. Michelin experience/ambiance, service, and taste without the crazy Michelin restaurant prices. And it's right next to wrigley field which is fun if you're visiting or showing people around the area. read more

Surprisingly solid HH cocktail option in Wrigleyville. Right across the street from the park, Mordecai offers an elegant space to drink and dine. There are plenty of unique bottles lined up along the wall, partially covered by a moving screen. I believe it is part of the hotel, a modern and fancy looking space, but still approachable. There were a couple of ready made, draft cocktails and we sampled a couple of them. They were all really good. There are also a couple of food HH items listed. A much needed addition to Wrigleyville. I had the wagyu taretare, short rib orecchiette, The Duke and Hot Corner (cocktails). The drinks were expertly crafted and the food delicious. The restaurant is well designed with a subtle and tasteful nod to it's baseball neighbor without feeling like a "sports bar". From the host / doorman to the wait staff everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. 5/5 will be back! This was a welcome surprise. A beautiful little space sitting across the street from Wrigley Field. It's a whiskey bar, with plenty of cocktail options and whiskey options of course. The menu isn't large, but the choices are greatZ. We started with the harissa glazed carrots, so good. The Mordecai burger with fries was delicious , I mean bacon jam! Yes please. Had a wonderful time here. Met a friend who lives in the neighborhood and even though it was a Cubs gmeday that wasn't our reason to meet. Host at the door was a bit of a jerk both when I entered (took my non-alcoholic drink as though I was about to sit at a bar and drink a soda) and asked if I paid my bill when I left. A hidden gem in Wrigley (despite being in one of the best spots). Definitely a great spot to grab high-end cocktails ($25-$45 but honestly they're impressively good- worth the experience). The food is also really quite great. House margarita is A+ Spaghetti & Meatballs is obscenely good (the meatballs are well done but not dry- and I think they pan fry them to make the outside crispy) A++ Service is impressive and obviously there's fun and interesting views of Wrigley right outside the windows. read more

We stopped in here last minute the other night to celebrate a graduation. The decor and vibes were very hip and trendy--loved that. The host and server were both super friendly and outgoing and contributed to the experience. I ordered the Bills in Foil to drink and loved it. It is a twist on a margarita with pear cider in it and a sugar rim. Highly recommend. We got the pretzel bites and cheese curds to start--both classic options. I got the Rockette Pappardelle, which was the perfect summer pasta. We rounded it out with the Strawberry Shortcake, which was a little underwhelming but still delicious. read more

After enduring a couple of mediocre ballpark beers followed by rain that wouldn't quite let up, we decided to watch the rest of the Cubs game at a classy cocktail bar! Way more my speed. We got there at the top of the 7th inning and there were about eight guests there in total, three at the bar and the rest at a couple of tables. Our drinks were good and the bartender who made them was really nice. Unfortunately, we got there right before shift change and everyone that took over for the evening could not have given less of a sh*t about us. Both of the new bartenders stood at opposite ends of the bar, stirring drinks that were seemingly for no one because everyone that was there was visible from where I was sitting and they all had full glasses. Except for us! There were two servers for the two seated tables and they were both watching the mixology that was going on. Even the manager wouldn't make eye contact with us as I guess he was in a hurry to make a drink for nobody too and he went behind the bar as well. So, three bar guests in total, three people behind the bar all with unobstructed views of our empty glasses... and we couldn't get a soul to give us a second round or take a food order. Not sure what we did to deserve such rudeness as we got great service everywhere else that day including at the wonderful Swift and Sons. I'm not sure how long we sat before one of the bartenders finally acknowledged us but we paid our check and DIPPED. I would get it entirely if they were slammed-- it's Wrigleyville! But there were literally as many employees as there were guests! Truly bizarre! I gave them two stars SOLELY because of the first bartender. read more

Went here for dinner before a concert at Wrigley Field. We arrived before our reservation and the staff was super accommodating and sat us early. Our server was super nice and attentive. All of the food we ordered was delicious and I was so sad I got full and couldn't finish. If we weren't going to the concert right after I would have taken my left overs home. Lovely cocktail spot in Wrigley that's been on my to-do list for far too long. Beautiful bar area that I could stare at all day. Cocktails were SUPERB. The bartender's name is escaping me but she was excellent - attentive, friendly, & happy to talk/answer any questions we had regarding the cocktails or their wonderful mezcal collection. They do have food but we went mainly for drinks, however I wanted a snack so ordered the polenta fries... whoa so good. I highly recommend this beauty that's within an area saturated with mediocre sport bars, I will most certainly be returning, again & again. read more

Came here for drinks with friends. It's right across from Wrigley Field, and we went when there was a concert going on, so understandably it was full. However, we were seated upstairs and served quickly. The place is well designed and everything looks nice. Our server was great, and understanding when I didn't like a certain drink and gave me a suggestion for a different one. Most of the drinks were okay, but not up my alley. However, I did finally try one that I loved. My friend also ordered a pesto and clam pasta, and that was absolutely delicious. I'd go back and try some other drinks and if they added some others to the menu. I would go back to try the food as well. read more

Mordecai is a great restaurant/bar to give a try if you have not done so yet. This restaurant has a great upscale chill atmosphere with a view of Wrigley Field. I got the focaccia basket to start. The bread came out warmed. It was paired with a maple butter and a parmigiana dip. The bread had bit of a spice to it, but it was very good and different! Definitely suggest trying it out! For my meal, I got the rigatoni alla vodka. This pasta dish was delicious. read more
