    Breakfast Poutine

I recently visited Monkey's Paw for Sunday brunch. "The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs is 1 of my favorite short stories, so I was already intrigued by the name. Ambiance: The place has a lot of character and charm. It was spacious, with seating up front, in the back, and at the bar. Service: I arrived shortly after they opened so the crowd wasn't that big yet. I was encouraged to sit wherever I liked, so I parked it at the bar. I was greeted immediately by the bartender, and he checked on me multiple times while I was there. Great service! Beverages: I came for the $15 bottomless mimosas - $15 is a steal in this city! The mimosas were pre-made/pre-mixed, so my initial glass was flat. I saw the bartender mix a new carafe, so my subsequent glasses were better. He was attentive and made sure to keep my glass full. Even after I paid my tab, he made sure I had that 1 final glass before I departed. I told you the service was great! Food: I ordered the Breakfast Poutine, which was breakfast potatoes, sausage gravy, cheese curds, and eggs. I ordered my eggs over medium. The sausage gravy alone is enough to make me return. Unlike most places, their sausage gravy was well-seasoned, flavorful, and FULL of sausage! I will say that with the potatoes, gravy, cheese curds, and the runny yolk, the dish was hearty and rich. I needed some acid to cut through the heaviness, so I was thankful for the bottle of Tabasco on the bar. Given the area, parking may be a little tough, but thankfully, I was able to find a spot on the side street. I parked on the residential side, and surprisingly, there wasn't any permit-only parking signs, so that was a win. I plan to return! #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood #YelpEliteSquad

Stopped by The Monkeys Paw on a Friday night for dinner & drinks with friends. It's tucked into a quiet corner of west lincoln park and has casual neighborhood vibes. We had made a reservation for patio seating outside, which was nicely set up along the sidewalk. I also noticed they were dog friendly, as some had brought their pets. My friends and I started with the seasonal G&T cocktail, which was just ok - the blackberry sour next ended up being the crowd favorite. For food, I split the wedge salad with one other person and it came out split for us on separate plates, which was a nice touch. I also got the mussels, which were a-okay. Overall, the food and drinks were good but nothing extraordinary - bumping to 4 stars because the service was fantastic. Our waiter was awesome, and everything ran very smoothly. If I lived in this neighborhood, I would be a regular.

I went to monkeys paw for the Wednesday half bottle of wine deal and am HOOKED! I love the cozy vibe of the inside but I also loved the outside patio seating. It is so neighborly and what is even better is you can take the wine home if you done finish it!(I usually finish it no problem) I am a sucker for a pretzel and this pretzel and beer cheese did not disappoint! I also am usually not a huge chickpea fan but my friend was and highly recommended the crispy chickpeas and I loved them so much I tried to make the recipe at home!!!

Cute neighborhood comfort food bar. We started with a design your own charcuterie board with a few delicious cheeses and prosciutto. Then we shared the roasted vegetable salad ( pretty good) and a grilled Cesar salad (great menu item). Friendly service. If in the neighborhood great choice for casual comfort food !

Cozy neighbor bar experience. A very nice draft beer selection. Wednesday's are 1/2 off wine bottles.

By the time we left tho,the place was packed! Our server Haley was great. They have a fantastic bourbon and whiskey menu as well as craft cocktails. I had their NWB Old Fashion which is made with Buffalo Trace..bonus! It was so good I had to have two.....lol. We spilt the NWB Trio appetizer which was a selection of hummus, olive tapenade and corn guacamole, fresh veggies and grilled pita. Definitely big enough for 4 people. Their menu offers Mac n cheese, Gourmet Burgers,Wraps,Sandwiches and Salads. I had the NWB Burger which was an 8 oz burger topped with pork belly, cheese curds, whiskey bbq sauce on a pretzel bun. Absolutely delicious! My wife had The Gobbler (GF) with a Turkey burger, avocado, goat cheese, roasted red pepper sauce on a GF bun. She loved it and they only charged an extra 1.00 for the GF bun. Portions are huge and the food is very good. We will definitely be back!

A friend and I stopped in for a weekday lunch and there were about 15 other customers as well. This is a casual whiskey bar with your standard bar food and drinks. Service throughout was kind of inconsistent but still OK. The food came out fairly quick which is ideal for me anyway haha. We both opted for the $10 smash burger lunch special that comes with fries. For $10 this is a great deal. The burger was juicy and delicious. The sauce on the burger goes very well with it and the bun is buttery, very good. The fries? Meh, they were pretty bland and stale.

The cocktail menu caters to many tastes, they make their own bitters, shrubs and syrups, they have a diverse collection of small batch producers and clearly a staff who know what they're doing! As a mixologist who now only plies his trade at home, I was extremely impressed!! Not that the lack of reviews seem to be hurting their business - the 3 attempts I made to visit, only one was successful (they were too busy the other times). I stumbled upon Oskars by chance - but man, am I ecstatic that I did!!! This is a gem that would easily do well in Chicago's trendiest hoods. Its interior is extremely cozy and inviting/welcoming - it reminded me of a cocktail establishment in London's brick lane neighborhood. I'm looking forward to coming back with friends as this is a cocktail bar that will impress Chicagoans and out of towners alike - and more importantly, I don't have to venture south to have a great cocktail anymore!!

Beer was great and Bethany, my server, was wonderful. I felt welcome as a single diner, which isn't always the case at some restaurants. My second visit was a little less wonderful. I sat inside, had a different server on a busy night and felt unappreciated, to be honest. The pace was frenetic with servers and bussers rushing around throughout the restaurant. My server was OK, but I don't think she cared one way or another about my experience as a patron and it showed. Servers really can make a big difference in dining experiences. I know that it's not an easy job, but something to think about for any servers reading reviews. FYI - the reserved signs on the outdoor tables simply mean that you need to see the hostess. The tables are not actually reserved. They really should use different wording because I almost kept walking, thinking that all the outside tables were taken.

What a cute little brewery! They have a handful of beers, with a good variety (i.e. 75% are *not*…read moreIPAs). Plus, I think it's fantastic that their menu describes the flavor notes! The prices are extremely reasonable, with most 10oz pours costing ~$5-6. The flight of the 'core' (shall we say) six is $20... not bad at all if you ask me. I ordered 10oz of the Liquid Baguette, as the menu described, Earthy, Crisp, and Refreshing. While not my favorite beer on the planet, it was very respectable for a craft brew. DryHop also has a proper food menu, with mostly American classics with some a little more out there options, like the Kangaroo Steak Frites or the Hunter Stew (I don't recall what kind of meat, but not exactly something readily available at Jewel's. The cup was a large enough portion, even made me wonder if I was given a bowl by mistake. The broth was rich and savory, with an ample amount of protein. While a little more meat and smaller pieces of potatoes would have been welcome, this is more personal preference than a critique. Something which was less than fantastic was the service. I felt it was inattentive and a little slow, especially given the brewery was only moderately busy at the time. Maybe I am becoming an impatient, old curmudgeon, or maybe there's some truth to my observation, you be the judge. Final verdict: I think DryHop would classify as a micro-brewery. In that regard, they have a solid selection and good variety. To have something for the beer to wash down there's a solid food menu. While beers and grub are of a high standard, the service leaves something to be desired.
