We popped in for happy hour after the zoo and ended up staying quite a while. They had a nice selection of games at the bar so we played cards and cards against humanity. So I recently moved to the neighborhood and was looking for some pizza, which I am having trouble finding good pizza close by. It was 2 pm and they did not have pizza. (Although they have it on their menu) they share a kitchen with the pasta place next door, they only had "bar food" at 2 pm which did not even include chicken wings. I was like... what?? Also, the female bartender was a little rude and acting as if she didn't want to serve me even my drink. There were only myself, a girl on her laptop, they she paid more attention to, and two men having afternoon beers. It was soooo off putting I will not be back. Great beer selection, mixed drinks and food menu for quality and portions from Pasta Bowl next door or better than good bar food all day and late including pizza. Came for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks on a week night. The atmosphere was fine and the food was okay - cheese curds were done well, chicken tenders a little over-cooked with no dipping sauce. Midway through my meal, I hear screeches from 2 customers and people jumping up from their bar stools. I look around and then down and a giant RAT is scurrying around the floor. While I understand that the city of Chicago has a rat problem in general and one could easily get in, the lack of any action from the staff was dumbfounding. At the very least you would think an apology and a perhaps a comping of the meal would be done. Needless to say, not going back. read more

I stayed dangerously close to this place during my visit to Chicago and ended up getting late-night food from this place, twice. Did not regret it even the tiniest bit. The buffaque wings were amazing. Living so close to K-Town in NYC, I've tried them all (or so I thought) and declared that wings were as good as they get. But buffaque proved me wrong - sweet, acetic, smokey, and got a nice kick. The pretzel was what really blew me away. I know it's silly to hype up a pretzel, especially when I'm not a pretzel person as I often find it too dry or hard or soggy or chewy, but this one was just so perfect and so... different. It had a subtle flavor of its own and tasted amazing sans any dipping sauce. Four stars, however, because the waffle fries were kinda weak - over-battered and not as crisp as I'd like. The Other Side is a laid back friendly neighborhood bar, with cheap drinks, tasty bites, and a guaranteed good time! Discovered this place awhile back when I used to work at a restaurant down the street, and the Other Side was our go to spot after a long shift! Years later, still one of my favorite bars in the city. Each night they offer a different drink special, and always a selection of cheap drafts. The food is good too! I like their spicy buffalo wings, with an extra side of sauce for dipping. The southwest chicken rolls are also very tasty. They're like little egg rolls, but filled with cheese, chicken, corn and beans. Their pizza is also delicious. The staff is also the best! I've seen it change a bit over the years, but everytime we go, everyone who works there is so nice. Not a huge fan of bar food (I'm more of a vegetable and rice girl), but even then the atmosphere at the Other Side Bar was a-ok. Got some small little appetizers (wings, tots, southwest chicken rolls), a moscow mule, and a beer; just some late night casual snacking. Sharing a menu with the Pasta Bowl (literally conjoined), you have a pretty large selection of carb heavy entrees, ranging from pizzas, salads, subs, pastas...the whole red white and blue shebang. Drinks are pretty pricy, and the happy hour is pretty limited, so even though the atmosphere is casual, beers and cocktails will still run you around $8-9 a pop. This place is definitely more worth it on days with specials, but even so prices have hiked up c/w with several past reviews. Overall, the food was okay/the standard (though we didn't get entrees....the wings were too wet :/), and drinks were on the weaker side...so I'd probably recommend this place to a group of friends looking for a late night hangout spot (they have board games), or a couple looking to take advantage of their special deals on certain days. read more

The Other Sider Bar is such a cool bar! I love that one side of the bar offers bar type food and the other side offers a more extensive menu that you would see at a restaurant. I've visited the other side on a few random occasions and I've always had a good time. During one of my first visits I had the chance to order one of their popular pasta dishes. It was so good! My friend has highly recommended the dish and he did not led me astray. The second time I visited The Other Side Bar was during a celebration for a local beer. It was awesome! They set it up the space as if it was a second year old birthday party (I believe the beer was turning two) because they had candy gift bags and pin the tail on the donkey with prizes. The staff was very friendly while making sure we always had a drink and that the unlimited pizza kept flowing. The only thing that I didn't like about the Other Side Bar was their low quality pizza. Even though the pizza was unlimited during the party, the pizza that the bar provided was just okay. I've had other dishes or things from their menu so I know that they can do better! I still love The Other Side Bar and will visit whenever I get the chance. read more

What a cool bar to be at! Friend and I are visiting Chicago and wanted something chill but fun and we found this spot. Board games and good vibes especially from the two GREATEST bartenders, Jackie and Dillon! If you haven't seen Dillon's ankles let alone the tricks he does with them you should find yourself there and ask him to do the #anklechallenge. Jackie is personable and really takes the time to get to know you. She's a true badass and makes the time there like you never want to leave. I stopped by this place on two different ocassions this weekend. Both for the world series which I am from Texas so of course I was there to support my home team. Now, initially the game wasn't on but as soon as I asked our waitress she had no problem turning it on for us. Very cool since everyone there was getting loud and rowdy about a USC game that was playing. I liked this place because there were drink specials every night and the pizza was incredible. Also, this place is pretty much two in one. You have the bar menu for the Other Side and also the menu for next door which is Pasta Bowl. I spent 10 dollars for a large and delicious two topping pizza and 4 dollars a piece for bloody marys(both sunday specials). Now that's a deal if you ask me. When I visit Chicago again I will definitely be back and I recommend this bar to anyone looking for a good time. read more

I had a great experience here Saturday. We had a group of 8 that were looking for dinner after going to Zoolights. Majority of the group voted for the Pasta bowl, so we headed there. They didn't have room for 8, but said we could order from their menu next door. So we walked through the Pasta Bowl to The Other Side. They combined 2 tables to seat us. We got menus for both the Pasta Bowl and the bar. This was pretty awesome, because we didn't all want pasta! Half our group had pasta, and half had bar food. Our server could not have been better. Bailey was on top of everything. She refilled our water, kept us in drinks, split our checks based on couples, remembered who was with who even after a seat change, and was friendly. There were decent drink specials (we were here on a Saturday!). I had a flavored Smirnoff (something weird but sweet) with coke for $3, and there were decent pints of beer for $5. The food was all good. The pastas smelled and looked great. The waffle fries and tater tots were perfectly cooked. My grilled chicken sandwich was quite tasty. In the end, this was a great choice for a group dinner on Saturday evening. read more

This place is A-okay! All in all it's a bar. We didn't eat as we had just eaten sushi, but they did offer us the menu. I enjoyed the bottled cider while other tried beers in tap. It seemed like there were a lot of beers they were out of though. They had cute decor including vintage steins and signs, but are selling it all off in order to redecorate. Supposedly there will be chalkboard paint and they will rely on artwork there, but given it's a bar, I question this logic. People will be chalking penises all over the walls in no time. read more

This bar is such a hidden gem. I've lived in the area for two years and only recently discovered it. From a laid back environment to great specials, it has quickly become my go to spot. Unfortunate I have to do this, given I typically enjoy my experience here, but today had an experience that will change my views on this establishment. Put in a take out order for wings, a typical Sunday tradition for my roommate and I. Showed up 25 mins later, knowing they probably wouldn't be ready, as is standard but usually only a couple mins delayed from the quoted 20-25 min window. When I got there, it was apparent that my order had not even been started and they did not appear to be busy, which was odd. 25 mins after showing up, my food was ready. To my dismay when I got home, my order of wings did not have the quoted amount of wings, and the wings I did get were pathetic. But hey, not to worry, I was offered two DIET PEPSIS, for the hassle. Now,I enjoyed this place the couple times I've been here. A group of us always end up settling here around the holidays to take advantage of their reasonable deals, good bar food and boxes of games. The last time I was there though was a $10 pizza special which was awesomely cheap and the pizza was good. The Jenga was a lot of fun and they also have Taboo which you need to check out but is honestly a really fun bar game to play-who'd of thunk it? However, the service was so-so. Granted there was only one server to cover the entire bar-it seemed like the other person was strictly bar only. However, the place wasn't that busy and she could have lent a hand for sure. The service was correspondingly slow, it took a while to get more beer, it took a while to get menus, it took a while to get our wings, it took a while to get our pizza, and then another while before another pizza-it was that good. Afterward, our plates and pizza stands were still hanging around and while we waited and waited for them to be cleared so we could all hang out. We ended up just putting them on the ground because, well we got sick of waiting. Granted, putting the entire bar in the hands of one person isn't a good idea but she definitely could have done a better job as well. Came here for a bears game a few weeks back. We came because we heard great things about the bar from a friend. First off we were not very happy because they were not showing the bears game on many TV's. I think only 2 of the 8 were showing the game. That didn't sit well with me and then as time went on the service was just bad. It took forever to get drinks and food. HOWEVER the food, when we finally got it, was good! So, we get there. I enjoy a few Miller Lites. Then, the waitress comes over... Waitress: "Ok guys! Listen up! At 9pm we are going to start the "Break the Seal Game" You will be given a wristband if you'd like to participate, and you can have all the free Miller Light, Coors you want. Until! Someone leaves the bar or goes to the bathroom." Us: Ok, so you are going to give us free beer that we are already drinking...and we just can't go to the bathroom? Waitress: yes. NICE! So, until 1015, when some doofus "broke the seal" we drank free beer. And it was amazing. *You can also order off the Pasta Bowl menu here, which is awesome. Our waitress was great. LP is not my usual hangout, and as evidenced by the same 12 songs being played on rotation: the 'hood is a little stale. (hello, how many times can we hear Kings of Leon in one evening at the bar?
